The biggest tragedies of this tournament were Youmu and Satori being in the same first bracket (they could've been the final two), people apparently not knowing who Kyouko is, and no support for fairies.

So yeah, all we really have left is SDM and Youmu to cut through everyone else. Nitori and Alice might have a chance.

Mebbe I'm not an avid 4channer, but I agree. In addition to the aforementioned characters, there are a number of characters that remain and have a real good chance. While I certainly see a few weak links in the chain, those cases have been limited and mostly come from weak brackets. As for the SDM, both Patchouli and Sakuya have a strong but semi-limited fanbase. Remilia will also get some anti-votes as she has in her first two rounds. So far as the SDM goes, Meiling's probably got the edge as she's hard-pressed to drum up detractors.

This contest is much different than I imagined though, and I'm glad every character gets a chance.

I much prefer Minoriko to her older sister, but this round is odd for me. I feel about the same for both of these characters, so I'll be holding my vote until near the end and voting for the underdog to even up the results a little. In that way the match can at least look a little closer.

Well Momizi won and by a wide margin. I guess it shows that most of the fan base really is thinking on moe instead of vengeance. So I guess my speculation of upset via Vengence is out of the question.

Let's move on:

Round 48: Our masters are Out Right Now

Sakuya Izayoi vs. Koakuma

Sakuya Izayoi

Pros: Maid, Elegant personality, skilled knife user, maid, former hunter, shady past, loyal servant, polite even in the heat of battle, (former) Major Character

Cons: Some people think Sakuya may have warn down a bit over the years, other may think she need more of her history known, some see her as a vicious killer

Koakuma

Pros: Devil / Succubus, loyal servant, librarian helper, familiar,, Devil wings (which include head wings)
Cons: Other than the fact that she's a demon, most of her other qualities are mainly fanon, also Koakuma had no really canon development outside of EoSD

Advantage: Sakuya

Let's put it quick and simple: Sakuya mainly will prevail simply because she has more character development compared to koakuma who's development derives mainly from fanon material. That's what I see out of this literally. There's nothing else to explain here. Sakuya has so much character development that it be waste to discuss it here till she faces some serious competition. Simply put, her elegance and polite mannerism is what makes her moe and that alone over tops a devil's fanon moe based attributes.

So yeah, my vote is Sakuya and that's it.

Time to contine on Emi's route!

In my opinion there are 5 chracters with a shot of winning the whole thing. Patchy, Alice, Flandre, Youmu, and Kogasa. Maybe Utsuho has a chance as well, which is ridiculous. It may depend on who faces whom, kind of a "rock paper scissors" effect, so it's hard to say which one seems the most likely, though I'm going to guess right now that Kogasa will win it all. I wish it could be Patchy, but Kogasa has gained a kind of "default moe." Like it's an objective fact that she's moe or something. I'm not saying she isn't moe, but she's being really over-hyped.

For this round though I can't imagine Sakuya losing. It's a matter of popularity.

I must admit to the egregious error of forgetting Kogasa when mentioning Momizi and Utsuho earlier. Pardon me, Father, for I have sinned.

I'll be pulling for one of Kogasa or Utsuho to take this all the way (or Aya, for all that I have zero confidence she actually will), but at this point I'd be satisfied-at-worst with anyone that wasn't Yuyuko or an EoSD character winning.

PS: Despite my hate for Sakuya, I won't deny her "elegance", but she was never shown to be "moe" to me, especially in fanon, as she was more portrayed as a badass, elegant, "perfect" maid than a "moe" one.

This is why Koakuma has my hand on this.

I'm also glad I have the character interpretations that I do, because if I adjusted those to match others, Touhou wouldn't have nearly as much appeal.

Last 3 matches went just as expected. Now here comes the one that I've been pondering for a while:

-On the one hand, while I can't deny that Sakuya is a badass, I'm really not fond of her personality, especially when it comes to moe. Aside from her being occasionally spacy and careless, as stated by her official profiles, she has little going for her and gives me the impression of being emotionless and somewhat of a showoff with her illusionist motif just because she happened to win a superpower lottery (not to the level of Sebastian though). Her Jack-the-Ripper and serial killer motifs do her no favors either, all but stating she is the one making food from humans for Flandre instead. Aside from a certain very out-of-character canine version of her, fanon does not make her more endearing for me either, disregarding the carelessness entirely and being almost mindlessly loyal towards Remilia regardless if she is portrayed as nice or a complete monster in a given fanwork and dropping her elegant facade and turning violent if you dare to mention the p-word or are Meiling. I would presumably warm up to her if ZUN gave some kind of heartwarming backstory with Remilia, but he's stubborn on it staying enigmatic. And some part of her fandom being unreasonably... unpleasant towards the character I happen to be a big fan of rubs me the wrong way as well. She's pretty much a less likable Youmu for me, because the half-ghost certainly shows more emotions aside from obedience and loyality, and has cuter interactions with her mistress (to be fair there's a world of difference between both mistresses though).

-On the other hand, while fanon Koakuma is usually moe and her interactions with Patchouli help as well, but in canon she is a blank slate, with no way of telling whether she was meant to be moe or the opposite, aside from the mention she is thoughtless and mischievous, the qualities I find moderately endearing. If ZUN bothered to give her a personality, she would likely be blatantly above Sakuya though.

Right now I'm torn between not voting at all or voting for Koakuma (because I have some doubts if voting for someone with no canon personality would be similiar to spite-voting in this case). I'm leaning towards the latter though.

I voted for Koakuma. If we go by fan interpretation, she is really moe, even more than Kogasa. And in her case, fan interpretation is the only thing one could base their vote on (which is probably why she has such a default personality, as ZUN doesn't do such moeblobs, not even the umbrella goes that far).

While elegance can be moe at times, it's note really the case with Sakuya. At least, I never saw here as moe. Then there is the "abusive boss of Meiling" thing, which I prefer to disregard completely.

Well I didn't expect to have to vote, but Sakuya's actually losing. I for one think she's pretty moe, in a slightly similar fashion to Youmu, though her dialogue in the many games in which she has appeared also makes her seem quite likable to me, and I honestly fail to see the SDM crew as being "evil" the way everyone else seems to. Maybe you could say Remi is a spoiled brat or something, but that's hardly villanous, and she doesn't even seem too angry after her plan is foiled. She just walks over to the shrine with a parasol and says hello to Reimu. (In one ending at least.) The closest anyone seems to get to evil in Gensokyo is the stupid belligerence of a few stage 1 bosses.

I've never seen anybody considering the SDM characters as evil (although the aforementioned "abusive boss" interpretation is pretty borderline). Considering that this is Touhou, this wouldn't make sense (but try to tell this the guy who made the ridiculous "Koishi's Heart-throbbing Adventures" series...).

Kinda glad myself that Sakuya prevailed, but I didn't expect this battle to be SO CLOSE!

It seems I under estimated people's ideas of how they approach canon and fanon attribute. Considering almost everything about Koa is fanon based I was expecting her to remain under the radar while Sakuya dominated. But I didn't expect so much switching between places. It was rather scary.

I have always judged everyone based on canon attributes, mainly because fanon material seems to get in the way and can vary so much that it make a lot of factors irrleavnet. But this match showed me how the fan base thinks now. And it's kinda scary.

I guess this means I need to start including more fanon pros and cons for the characters analysis from now on though I think that would weigh a bit on the decision making....

That last round was more interesting than one might have anticipated it being. It was also more exciting than I thought the Chen v. Youmu and Kogasa v. Yuuka matches would be. I'm glad I was wrong with this match because of how much more interesting it wound up being.

Outside of maybe a few bracket-busters, the field has been trimmed down to quite a well-refined one. Looking forward to the next round.

I find it to be more disappointing, considering the moe factor of her just solely being a maid and not Sakuya HERSELF being moe.

That's what my friend told me why he voted for her anyways.
