My computer hates tengus.
« on: September 26, 2011, 08:41:02 PM »
These are the only two games refuse to work. I don't have a clue whats wrong... all the others work perfectly (6-13). These are being painful. Or, like the title suggests, Windows 7 hates tengus. Which I doubt. I got the right DLL's, I can't imagine whats wrong. My computer also hates Applocale for some reason (the installation always fails halfway through T_T)... if that's the case, then it kinda looks like it'll be quite a loooong while till I get to play these... but Danmakufu works fine without Applocale, and I've heard that's needed for Danmakufu, but it still works, which is why I'm so confused about STB and DS...
STB

I load it, it acts as if going into fullscreen, then flickers somewhat, then goes off and shows that. I can only click OK and end the program...
DS

I load it, select Windowed (640x480) and it just... dies. Stops responding. Then it tells me to terminate the program. T_T

I hope someone can help, it seems kinda rude considering I'm new... but it makes me feel defeated being unable to do anything about it. D: I also really just want to play them, they look so awesome o3o

As for 9.5 and 12.5...
Do the folders have any japanese characters in their names? if so, that can keep them from running under an english locale. Also have you patched them to the correct versions and\or english?

Also, Danmakufu needs to be run in applocale set to Japanese regardless of it working without it, or else it wont be able to read scripts.

First of all, what do mean by "installation fails halfway through". Depending on what you mean, the solution is probably http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-install-microsoft-applocale-in-windows-7/

Danmakufu will only crash once it has to read japanese. If you get rid of the default players and there isn't japanese in the scripts you load, it will work fine.
But regardless run it in AppLocale.

As for your actual problem,
-Have you tried running fullscreen?
-Is your DirectX9 up to date? (The StB screenshot hints to "no")
-Have you tried reinstalling the games?

Changing the folder name fixed them, thank you :)

Where are people getting the idea about just copying the Dx9 dlls instead of installing the full package?  I'm curious, because I've seen people do it on more than a few occasions, and experience issues.  You really ought to do the whole thing instead.

Also,
Or, like the title suggests, Windows 7 hates tengus. Which I doubt.
It's okay, we hate Windows anyway.

Anyway, glad you got it working.  ^.^

Often the programs ask for a specific version of the DX9 DLLs (for instance, d3dx9_42.dll) so frequently those will be downloaded individually and placed in the program directory, while the DX9 redistributable is largely ignored.

Indeed we do (and yet many of us do some work on there). :V

Each one of those DLLs do something different, and some rely on others.  It's best to install the full package, else you're asking for problems with missing dependencies.

It's just weird because I've seen it in a couple occasions already, and it was causing issues until the full package was installed.

I had that issue for most of this computer's life. (got in May 2010) I had a registry issue and was unable to install ANY directx installers. Web installer or redistributable, even from years back. I was apparently missing the version values in the registry, after adding which, fixed them and I got directx all good to go. Still odd that it was missing them though, and I still don't know why. But I had to use the individual dll for TD till I got them to work.
I figured out how to play midi in games with a different device on Win7 ^^
