Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine ONLINE (Yes, really)
« on: August 03, 2010, 03:25:02 AM »
I blame Garlyle for introducing me into this series with Strange Journey and starting an addiction with Imagine. lol

MegaTen Imagine is a rather addicting MMO with it's own story involving everything you love about the MegaTen series. There's demons, there's fusions, there's awesome things to learn. It's basically greatness.

To name a few points. There's ton of expertises you can develop making every character unique. There's all kinds of weapons including guns, swords, and magical weapons. Tons of demons and fusion possibilities. HUGE areas to explore.

Who knew a post-apocalyptic world could be so much fun?  :V

I remember playing it when the German servers were still active. Wasn't really something for me, but I generally can't play MMORPGs for too long  :V

I'd love if we could get together for funtiems if enough people get into the game.  :3

Out of curiosity, does anyone have character plans in mind? I started of making a gunner crafter hybrid but she totally sucked at damage and I got irritated at her. So I recently made a mage character who is awesome. I plan to make him an offensive mage with max Destruction Magic with Curse of the Wretched for the funzors.

WHEN I WAS PLAYING SMT IMAGINE:

Pure Mage character build, focused on Chaos demons because I generally liked those better. Picked Chaos alignment so I dicked myself out of getting an Alice, which I made a secondary Pure Melee character for, which was Neutral.

My main demons at the early stages were usually physical bruisers, supporters or tanks who can take hits for me while I pelt offensive spells at the enemies. Also, a lot of demons that you can get now never existed back when I played. For instance, you can get Hecatoncheires (Lv82 Jaki) and Mara (Lv95 Maou, also the highest levelled demon to date) nowadays.

You don't actually suggest trying to get Mara in Imagine Online, do you?  'Cause that's some bullshit.

I just started today. Haven't done that much, but I know I'll be a mage - focusing on damage, and dabbling in de/buffs, healing and a lot of crafting.

Do we have a MotK guild?

No MotK guild that I know of yet, but if enough people jump in I'm sure there could be one. I'm kinda already in a clan so I wouldn't be able to join you guys.

Spoiler:
He requires a plugin that you can only get with 800 Yetzirah Roots, then you must fuse a Jaki Girimehkala, Maou Surtr and a Maou Hecate with the special fusion...

That's assuming you know how the fuck a Triangle Fusion works... and there's not that many people that have such knowledge.  :V

Triangle Fusions aren't THAT complicated, are they?

Is that just a Western server thing?

I don't know, but nobody on the western servers has any clue how the fuck Triangle Fusions work in SMT:I.  Seriously.  Not a damn clue.

Basic fusion is figured out though, and unlike YellowYoshi suggests, fixed Plugin-based Triangle Fusions are really easy to figure out.  Anything else?  Have fun predicting what A + B + C will come out as.

Most of the people I knew had a good grasp of tri-fusion, and fusion in general. They helped me fuse a 5-Element Lilim with Diarama or something.

No, it's not. There's some method but I never had the dedication to learn it. I'm sure there are still some helpful guilds around, though.

I figure most people don't bother with non-formula Triangle Fusions since the outcome is damn near impossible to predict.

As for formula triangles, you can get some great demons from them such as King Frost. Though, most of them will be beyond your grasp for a long while as they require significant demons and plug-ins.

I heard that the gameplay is pretty bad. The only reason why I took notice of it was because there was some sort of tie-in with 'A Certain Scientific Railgun'.

I don't know what you're talking about. The gameplay is incredibly fun. The demon system is also one of the best implemented monster capture/partner systems I've seen in a MMO, but what else would you expect from MegaTen?

I will say it takes a bit of getting used to since it's not quite as hack-n-slash as most MMOs, there's a lot of strategy involved.

The combat system was fun enough, since I'm used to (and enjoy!) more complex systems like that. I stopped playing after level 30-something because it became a terrible chore to grind on up, though.

Yeah, my advice generally is JUST finish ALL the acts and then stop playing.

You have absolutely zero incentive to play after finishing the Acts.

This, but the process of getting through the acts is pretty fun.  And you can come back every once in a while few months when they add a new one and do that.

They probably have added more acts since I stopped (or rather, I certainly hope they have in NA), so maybe I'll reinstall and poke around a bit in the fall.

In closed beta, everyone was everyone else's bro and we just wandered around and played the game with little technical knowledge.

In open beta, people were talking about mechanics a bit more as more things were available and we all had a greater knowledge of the overall system.

Between open beta and now, people talked less and less openly about stuff and most of the public(and clan, from my experience) conversation is mostly about game mechanics and how to fully utilize them. No one really talks about stuff anymore, and it makes me sad.

My clan leader can be very much the kind of person that would char game mechanics and tell you what's the most efficient, but for the most part we all just do whatever we feel we want to do. For instance, Turdak is a very glass cannon demon and for most purposes isn't considered very good, but I'll probably have one anyways. Someone else in clan chose her demons based solely on looks instead of efficiency as well, so it's probably not quite as insane as you think. Though I'm still not too far along so I dunno if that will change in the future.
