Title: Anime Summer 2011 Preview
Post by: Grand Octopus on June 04, 2011, 11:07:01 AM

I sound like a broken record, but there's nothing there that gets me hugely excited. Skimming through, I'm at least somewhat interested in:

Kami-sama no Memo-chou - I like the premise, though the sample image is making me wary.
Mortia-san wa Mukuchi - Series based on 4komas tend to go down well with me.
Dantalian no Shoka - Premise isn't remarkable, but I'm sure Gainax will do a decent job with it.
Nekogami Yaoyorozu - Solely because it's based on a FLIPFLOPs manga.
Blood-C - Dat character design.
Usagi Drop - The manga's pretty decent from what I remember. That said, I suspect I'll find the anime to be slow and fairly boring.
Higurashi Kira OAD - More Higurashi is always a good thing, though the video preview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpKLAs3voWM) doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence.

Couple of interesting films. Hayate, Negima and Sengoku Basara are all existing series that I have an interest in. Kokuriko-Zaka Kara is Ghibli so it'll doubtlessly be decent.

Oh, there's also a bonus episode of Nichijou there somewhere.

Blade looks awesome.  Please oh please don't let me down Madhouse.

I'm also probably going to watch Nyanpire because I am a 12 year old girl

Checkin' out Appleseed and Blood-C based on principle. Errythang else will have to wait for reviews.

I wanted to say that there are no interesting choices this season either, as I skipped everything the last season, I have to say there are some of it what can be interesting, from Blood-C to some of those seemingly slow and boring slice-of-life series for older people. Hell, more than 5 series I'll try after I've seen some reviews.

I'll definitely be checking out Usage Drop. Nothing else really interests me, so I'll see what other people think is good a few weeks into the season, as usual.
Oh, and the Sengoku Basara movie, whenever it comes out on DVD. :P

More in depth:

Appleseed: Yes please!
Double-J: Cromartie is one of my favorite manga so I'm definitely checking this out.
Kamisama Dolls: The first half of the description made it sound like The Hangover.  Could be interesting, will just wait for the batch
Morita-san wa Mukuchi: Another anime about an embarrassed girl orz
Usagi Drop: This reminds me way too much of Koi Kaze and that makes me incredibly uncomfortable.  Skip.
No.6: The distant future of 2 YEARS FROM NOW!  It kinda sounds really super generic as well
Idolmaster: I'm shocked its taken this long for a proper anime
Blood-C: Maybe, but Blade is going to be my vampire show next season, so this is going to have to be really fantastic to grab me.
Mayo Chiki: I first read this as Mayo Clinic and was interested, then I read that it was just a Maria-Holic clone.  Pass
R-15: At least it's something different, gonna check it out.
Dantalian no Shoka: Putting my faith in Gainax for this.
Kami-sama no Memo-chou: Hatate the detective
Sacred Seven: Keep on milking that cow Sunrise
Baka test: Hell yes
Manyuu Hikenchou: :stare:

Usagi Drop: This reminds me way too much of Koi Kaze and that makes me incredibly uncomfortable.  Skip.

Assuming you've never read UD, as someone who has read both, I can assure you it is basically nothing like Koi Kaze*. It is actually a very sweet family/ single-parent story.** Give it a shot.

Outside of that nothing that really stands out this season. Then again I haven't even started Spring, still have to finish a couple of Winter shows, have a box-set and movie that I ordered online, and my friend is trying to push MLP: FiM on me.  :persona: Long summer ahoy!

*No you may not ask what in the world possessed me to actually read Koi Kaze.
**To be fair I fell behind at the
time skip
so maybe I missed something. I sure as hell hope not. :ohdear:[/sub]

I'm not saying that they're similar, just that the story premise cuts very close to a show that made me extremely uncomfortable.

I'll be following Usagi Drops, idolm@ster, baka test, and some other ones that I'll randomly pick up.

This summer doesn't look that good, but it isn't too bad either. Could be worse.
