Sup, humans. It's been a while. Why am I here? Because derp. And because I am trying to make a strategy board game, which have no luck factor. I hate the RNG.
As many of you don't know, I am rather fond of cards. Most notably card games. And I am also rather fond of Touhou. What did I do? Well, I made a game featuring the girls of Gensokyo.
This is a strategy board game. The cards are merely there to tell about the abilities of each girls. Though, unlike other board and strategy games, this game have no form of luck whatsoever. The closest you are ever going to be near the luck factor, is the card decisions you will be making.
The gameplay is affected by smart use of the cards in your dispositions and maps. Example, there are equipment cards, weather cards, and field cards. The game also have four seasons, which changes after a set of turns.
The equipment cards and such takes inventory slots. Each character have inventory space, and the home base acts as a storage room, which also have limits. And a lot of the support cards overrides another cards, so smart use is necessary.
The gameplay is simple. You send out a number of characters on the field. One of each character, no duplicates. And one leader character. It's turn based, so a player can take their time to move their units anywhere, and attack or do whatever. You can use spell cars, which is called an ultimate, and takes a few slots of inventory space. You can also use items, much like any strategy games.
Seasons will change the way the game goes. It's an optional game feature. There are Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Certain units receives a boost when a certain season is in play. Added to seasons, there are weathers, which can change the game by a lot.
This game also have classes, which have special traits of their own. Strenght and weaknesses, and immunities.
On top of class traits, all units have character traits as well, making team variation even more variated.
The classes in the game are Fighters, Defenders, Magicians, Rangers, Flight, Scout, Espion, Assassin, Divers, Deployers, Healers, Supporters and Outsiders.
Like most tactical-RPG games, there are stats. Physical Attack, Magical Attack, None-Attack and their respective defences. There are also Speed, Travel Distance, Attack Range, Splash and Area of Effect and of course your everyday Health Point. These values variates on units. The game uses simple add and reduce math. + and -.
The board game supports a few other modes, such as Intel Retreiving, Defence Mode, Elimination, Mission and General Assassination.
Intel Retreiving is the basic steal and return. A unit can take the intel and return to the base for points. Respawn is due.
Defence Mode is a mode where you destroy an enemy's home base.
Elimination is a simple kill'em all, no survivors.
Mission Mode. You pick a mission from a bunch of mission cards, and don't show it to the enemy. Certain units may reveal missions.
General Assassin. The mission is to eliminate the enemy's Leader unit. Leader units are more powerful than most.
I actually intended the rules for a computer game version, but as have no knowledge in game making, I came up with the board game version instead. I have planned out msot, if not everything.
There are slight changes in the computer and the board rules. Example, Momiji is a Scout unit, who is able to see really well, giving her additional vision range in fog and darkness. Also known as Fog of War.
But eyh, maybe one day I'll end up in a doujin circle, and get this game done. But for now, I'll do the board version.
Here's some example of cards I made. There are a lot more in my Photobucket (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v419/bambed/Cards/Touhou%20Frontier/).
Oh, and each card are artist credited at the bottom left, for my self-respect. And if you liked the art, can search up on it on Google, Pixiv or Danbooru.

As for the maps, I haven't figured out what kind of map I should get done. I need a bit of balancing work.

I'm actually really really bad at explaining. So, if you guys could just ask questions, so I can answer with an explanation, that should cover up for it. Yes? I trust this on you then. :V

uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
TOOOOOOOOO COMPLICATED.
Yeah, I had the same problem back when I tried to make a card game. Simplicity is good.

Well, it's understandably complicated. Even though it uses cards, TNinja called it a tactical RPG.
Though, it would be nice if you could make a full-fledged document for how to play the game, rather than try to condense it in one post.
Also, you might want to fix that photobucket link.

I would agree.... it's a bit too complicated... but there are certain games are are really complicated but still very enjoyable depending on how it's made/done/whatever...
Actually... If you want, I'd be willing to help in making a computer version of this... I've been studying C++ lately, I'm practically done with all the tutorials for C++ and SFML (which is what I'm using)... With enough time, info and images, I could probably whip up something... My only problem right now is network programming since I kinda skipped that portion for a while :V anyway... PM me if you want :3 although, of course... since I'm still a newbie at C++, I will most likely run into some problems...
I kinda like the idea of this...
EDIT: Also... no luck is impossible... everything has some amount of luck in it, whatever it may be...
-
Even if no luck is complete impossible, I plan to narrow it down as much as possible. Is there anything I dislike, it's a random RNG screw-up. It's not skill anymore, it's luck then. Just look at Fire Emblem and Mabinogi. Ew. >:(

Yeah, just madew new characters and a new equipment.
And this is now my favourite unit.
Zombie is new moe.
The game is actually playable right now as it is. Removing the seasons and weathers, it should be fine. Only need to get up the rules first, though.

Forgot I had a topic on this site too. :V
I'll now explain some of the stuff a bit more.
Classes:
Scouts are the game's speed units. Their ability allows them to move after an action with the remaining unused steps.
When they are being attacked, they are pushed backward after an attack, as long as there are no tiles to block them. Such as walls.
They can also double their attack turn. If the enemy has 3 speed less than you, you can attack 4 times. If not, you attack twice.
A Guardian's ability to prevent defence breaks has the top priority.
Like, if a Ranger tries to attack a Guardian, their defence breaking ability can't ignore Guardian's defence.
The same goes for a Magician's barrier breaking ability.
A Guardian can also take damage in place of a adjacent unit, or a base. So in defence missions, a Guardian can choose to defend the Base.
The protection is optional.
Flight units can move above almost every field, and receive no penalty nor bonus.
The only tile they can't pass through is a wall, whih are used or indoor maps.
Espions were meant to be completely hidden in the computer version. But to make them playable on a board game, I had to let them be visible.
An Espion can't be attacked unless they are attacking someone, or they are very close to a enemy unit. This makes them safe from ranged attacks.
They can still take damage from area of effects.
Very useful for stealing missions.
Summons are units summoned by Deployers. They can only be played if the Deployer as the skill that allows them to use it.
They can for the most part of the time be summoned infinitely. If one is destroyed, another one can be summoned.
Outsiders consist of only Maribel and Renko, and can be concidered as some kind of support class. They can deal mostly with items.
They are immune to all kind of attacks, and are not counted as players in Elimination. So if everyone in a team dies except from the Outsiders, the team loses.
Leaders have abilities affecting every unit on your team, most of the time. If a leader falls, the bonus is lost.
But only booster bonuses such as damage, defence, stat changes and immunities. Bonuses stat stays are inventories for the most part.
Characters:
Rumia was meant to have benefit in Fog of War, but that's not really possible on a board game.
So her abilities is to cover a portion of the field, preventing anyone inside from being attacked, or attack anyone at all.
A anti-ranger type. She also receives an Espion's trait when a dark weather is played.
Can still be hit by area attacks.
Flight Aya can hide, to evade all damage, including area attacks. If someone is nearby at the next turn, Aya can attack the unit.
Her ability Dash can be used outside battle, for additional movement. But when used, Aya can't attack at that turn.
Orin can summon small zombies as a Deployer. But another of her ability is to summon a super zombie using dead allie's corpses.
The zombie's attack power multiplies with dead allies, so if you take her out last, it will become really hard to defeat her.
There is one catch in it. If the super zombie is on play, Shikieiki can't revive dead units. The skill doesn't work with Mokou or Kaguya either.
Game
The game is affected by season, weather and how the units are placed.
Seasons changes after every 4th round, and weathers are summoned by items.
The units can be placed facing four different directions. North, west, east and south. Attacking someone makes the attacking unit face the target.
Some units deals extra damage when attacking from behind, and some have other abilities.
An example is Cirno's Winder Hedgehog ability. It allows her to deal damage to units attacking her from behind.
The Base is where you have your items in. It works as a bank for items.
When starting the game, you first fill the base with items of choice. Then you distribute the items from the base to your units.
Items you don't want to deal out yet stays in the base, and a unit can return to get them later.
Items
Dragon Summon is a Sudden Death item. It's very costly, and can be used anytime. But only the leader can use it, and the item size is about 20. More than a unit can have, so the item can only be used when you're in the Base.
It eliminates all units from both teams, and only the leader stays. All items are also removed.
So only the leader are left, and no items to be used.
If there are no leader when the item is used, the one with the leader wins. If there are no leaders, no one wins.
And here.
So, here's a almost complete set of Nitoris.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/bambed/Cards/Touhou%20Frontier/NitoriAquarion.png)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/bambed/Cards/Touhou%20Frontier/NitoriEspion.png)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/bambed/Cards/Touhou%20Frontier/NitoriDeployer.png)
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/bambed/Cards/Touhou%20Frontier/ArmUpgradeEquipment.png)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/bambed/Cards/Touhou%20Frontier/SpecialKitEquipment.png)
It's a given that she would be a Deployer. She is also Aquarion because of her water abilities, and Espion because of her cloaking device.
