Title: Recording issues with Ten Desires.
Post by: Zengeku on April 17, 2011, 08:17:54 AM
Hello guys.

I have for the last few hours attempted to get some successful recording of some of my good Ten Desires runs but for some odd reason this computer doesn't want to record it at full speed. I can't get it over 50 FPS. I find this to be odd since recording of UFO and GFW is no problem.

Is this perhabs issue with outdated hardware? I got a 3.2 ghz Quad core processor and 4 gigs of RAM. As for graphics, i believe its an ATI Radeon HD 4800 card.

Any suggestions on what I might need to upgrade or something else I might wanna try?

What are you recording with?

Fraps.

I can record Ten Desires demos just fine on what should be a slower machine.  2.8 GHz quad-core, 4 GB RAM, and a Radeon HD 3300 (a.k.a. integrated graphics...really).  That's with Fraps 3.4.0 in RGB mode at 60 FPS.  I record in a window, if that matters.

What OS are you running?  Do you have some fancy-shmancy theme with compositing enabled (a.k.a. Aero)?  Try turning it off.

I think GFW and TD disables Aero.  Double Spoiler might, but I haven't played it.

It's somewhat obvious because your screen flashes when it launches and your window decorations change (it does for me on Vista).  It's not entirely unlike loading/unloading Compiz, or for a less drastic change KDE4's compositing for Kwin.

Yes. DS, GFW, and TD all turn off Aero. In Windows 7, the change is noticeable in that the transparency of windows disappears and everything turns a solid blue that was transparent. They even turn it off before the game starts. You can see it if you have the config prompt you for a screen size upon start up.

I need to experiment more about fraps and TD. Then again, I've never tried it on the newer games, like SA, UFO, DS and GFW. Hmmm...

I tried recording this myself yesterday and it was fine until Yoshika showed up. When she came on screen, the FPS dropped to about... 50 I think? And once the fight started, it dropped to 30 and stayed there the whole time. Other than that, though, it recorded very well. Not sure how I'm going to get around that, yet. I wanted a solid run recorded, but I may have to break it down by level and use different FPS recording settings or change the game's config to record her stage.

Odd that a machine that should be slower would handle recording better. That might suggest the opportunity that there is something else that slows things down. I'll have to take a look at that when I get home.
