Title: FPS and Danmakufu crash questions
Post by: chirpy13 on February 24, 2011, 12:23:54 AM
Bear in mind the questions are separate!

FPS - How exactly do people go about making the games run at 90FPS?

Danmakufu - It crashes when I open it with applocale or switch my computer over to Japanese locale.  I asked about this months ago, but I never got a conclusive answer, nor could I figure it out since then.  The only thing I've really noticed is that it mostly seems to happen with XP users (yay). See my old topic for the details. (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=7317.0)

Vsync. The vsync patch is very useful for a small variety of things, including what fps to keep the game running at. (well, that's it's main job obviously) Get vsync here (http://www.mediafire.com/?izzv1lmnamm) if you don't already have it. Inside your touhou game folder, put into it the vpatch.exe, vpatch.ini, and the dll for whichever game needs to be run with vsync. Also, change the name of the game you're patching to the japanese exe name. (i.e. TH07, not TH07e) EoSD is the exception to th**.exe, where it's called 東方紅魔郷 but if you don't have japanese support, right click, properties on the exe and call it ?????g???? (quote IS part of it)
To change the fps, open the vpatch.ini and in the second section, where it says GameFPS, change that 60 to whatever number you want. (i.e. 90) And there ya have it!

Um, not really sure what is going on there. Works fine for me, besides the incredible input lag it produces. Have you experimented with the config.exe by any chance? I know that having the fifth option on the checklist checked causes it to not work. (at least on my machine, yours may be different) Outside of that, I can't really suggest anything. :(

Vsync.
Yay thanks

I have played with config a little, but only to try to fix it (I changed back any configs I messed with after).  I can't say I've ever successfully had Danmakufu run on my computer =/.

Vsync.

Doesn't work on all games unfortunately. Should work for anything pre-MoF (inclusive), but I know that when I play SA or UFO at 90fps I need to use a silly cheating program called CheatEngine to speed the game up to x1.5 (90fps). UFO actually requires me to use both Vsync and CheatEngine to fire it up to 90fps, SA just needs CheatEngine. Anyways, google the program, it's free. After installing, click the computer + magnifying glass button in the top right, search for anything with th11/th12 in it's name (should be at the bottom of the list), click Open. Near the bottom right there will be a checkbox that says "Enable speedhack", click it and enter 1.5, then click Apply. Hooray you are now a dirty cheater! Of course you can use the same method to slow the game down to rediculusly boring levels, but that's cheating in a bad way and nobody likes a TAS run that isn't just for fun, so if you want to subject yourself to the pain that is Touhou at below 60fps, be sure you tell everybody you're playing below the norm! And dance around bullets because it looks funny!

So you're currently running your computer under the Japanese locale? Because if nothing else, that should allow you to run the program without any hassle.

Nope, they don't need extras. The trick that worked for me is when you have SA or UFO set to run at 90 in vsync, also change the input latency in the config to fast. There's your 90!

Not currently, no.  I switched it over at the recommendation of a friend, but it just crashes when I open the exe (basically the same as when I ran applocale) so I switched back.  Maybe my langauge packs are screwed up or something, I'll try reinstalling those maybe.

EDIT: Nope, still crashes <_<

Yeah, don't try to run it in English locale. I just tried that (since I just recently got danmakufu) and it loads up just fine, and works with English scripts, but that's about it. Any Japanese scripts either won't be seen or will make it crash. (or have an endless amount of question mark folders for it)

Also, that vsync stuff I linked earlier is a new one, and actually contained a UFO patch, which I mentioned earlier, to my surprise. I noticed there was one for danmakufu (vpatch_th_dnh) but it doesn't seem to work, since it throws up two errors (in either language). I'm wondering if there's a way to get it to work. It might help the problem actually, since vsync performs many miracles.

Ah I got it from stuff on old thread (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,357.msg88724.html#msg88724). ^_^
Only one problem with it, it does what they said it does, slow down to 30 fps. It seems, at the moment, lasers lag it, but I'm not entirely sure yet. I dunno if this will help you open up danmakufu but it's worth a shot, I guess.

Yeah, I'm running it in Japanese locale, I'm just saying I switched my computer back after I realized it wasn't just doing that because applocale is buggy or something.

I did what it said, but I don't think the batch file is working, I just keep getting an error when I try to use vsync after.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong >_>.

If you just copied and pasted what he said for the batch file, then that's a problem. Drake made a typo and it should say
Code: [Select]
upx -d th_dnh.exeThe typo was he said udx instead of upx.
After that, try vsync and see if that makes anything better.

Ah, got it.  Changed it, used vsync, same crashes as I had before.

Works fine for me with input latency set to "fast" (fourth/last option in the right box if you don't have the english version) in custom.exe and Vsync = 0 in vpatch.ini. Then again, your video card drivers may have something to say in this too so YMMV.
