I'm already there. I got mah ticket to ride from the east coast gathering to ACen. I'll most likely take the trip down to Delaware via train because my RL Yukarimobile isn't trustworthy on long trips and the gas mileage is pretty wimpy. The road trip out there will be quite a new adventure for me, too. A dozen nerds on the road for a dozen hours should be interesting in terms of just who sings what until no one can talk anymore.
A quick poke through the boards says that the Toohoo gathering will be quite large. There'll be a sizable collection of KD:SS costumes (now including my own \o/) and I'm really looking forward to seeing anyone doing that. There will also be a store owner Mystia, purportedly, which features a design with a brown yukata and purple babushka. I am going to kidnap just so I can hug her.

I've NEVER seen a PC-98 Marisa. Hell yes. Based on the projected cosplay, I'm frothing at the mouth for pictures.
Not looking forward to the trip down AT ALL. I want to bring along 2 suitcases for 3 costumes. One of those is for Red Mage, and he has his fire/ice spell to worry about. I don't want to think about how I'm going to bring all that junk on a train.

As for cosplay, I dunno what I'm gonna do yet. I'd like to spiff up the Yuuka costume from last year, but I haven't the expertise necessary for it.

Nooooo way I'm bringing the cross on a trip in which I'll be spending some 36 hours in a car/van/train. The costume itself is set to go, though I'll be damned if I ever bring an object that effectively takes up 60 feet of space on a major road trip again. My only real quip about Yumemi otherwise is that I never got the lining the way I wanted it. I still like my little bow-tie, though, and that skirt is better than I could've hoped for.
So what the heck is Mima 2.0 gonna be? Were there any real improvements to be made? The details and appliques were great as they were. Unless you've got frikkin' WINGS in mind.

Considering that she was so far up on my last time through Tohosort, I would certainly hope so. I always thought of a second version of anything as a build up from the original, though.
Yeah, calculating how much fabric you'll need is a problem in and of itself. It's worse if the project requires a lot of it, too. I used a full bolt of fabric for Red Mage, and the vest, skirt, cape and capelet combination for Yumemi certainly was resource heavy. Thank goodness for sales and coupons. I milked every inch of fabric for cutting out the pieces from the patterns, too.

Apparently I'm being summoned to these shenanigans. Likely will have Mikuru, possibly will revive Desu but I never can find a real wig for her so I always get the hair wrong, and *might* have Shiki as well.

There HAS to be something Homestuck going on somewhere. Considering all the factors that go into making a group like this, there simply has to. My only fear is that this'll quickly become the next Hetalia/Kuroshitsuji.
Also, these poor guys got stuck with a half hour panel. We have trouble cramming everything we want to talk about into 2 hours and these guys get one quarter of that?! Sheesh!

So I got my Marisa costume today. The zipper's a bit screwy and got stuck, and somehow the flap on it was missing. So there was a chance I'D HAVE TO BE MARISA FOREVERRRR AUGH! So how are we going to hook up with one another once we're there? :3 I've caught wind of two Touhou photoshoots on Saturday at 11 to 11:30 and again from 7 to 8 at the East Outdoor Wall. I probably won't be going as Nitori for the 7-8 one, because the Homestuck photoshoot is immediately before and my face/arms will be painted gray ;o

There is some sorta Touhou meet and greet featured on Thursday and 8 I believe though I'm not sure where. The SDM party is featured in the garden (wherever that is) at 9 on Friday. Then the two photoshoots on Saturday plus the panel.

Okay, so the road trip back was amazingly exhausting. I drove for about 13 hours, through driving rain in the mountains in PA, huge hail leaving Illinois, and grazed the hell out of a deer on I-76. I'm thinking the deer got huge grazing points too.
Oh yeah, and I drove the whole way as Momiji (http://distant-mind.com/images/n1/AnimeCentral2011/IMG_20110522_152521.jpg). I got some really weird looks when we went to rest areas. X]

No more attending conventions without a backup change of clothes and shoes, and mundane clothes to drive home in. It sucks to stand there in your bare feet on the pavement holding a flashlight watching your friend change a flat tire because you're scared to dirty your dress.
Also, attending without backup communications and becoming a liability to everyone because of it was dumb.
I should have prepared better.

But yes. I was Poverty Ninja Unzan (I forgot my brofists, and felt naked as a result) and Rinnosuke. This was my second ACen, first one was 2009. Overall, it was an amazing con with almost no real downsides other than losing one of my 2 pairs of PortaPros, not being able to get into Hardcore Synergy (I had no idea the line would get that ridiculous), and not sinking enough money into DJ Max Technika 2 ($0.75 oh gosh that's so good). Also was nice to be able to feed my Twitter addiction at downtimes.
I will post my pictures up at some point. Need to filter out a few that were either bad pictures or ones I apparently am not supposed to post. Also too many food pictures haha.
but yeah. otherwise, good times.

Oh, Mercy. I came home, fended off questions about the con from a blessedly understanding friend, was called down to fetch a robin which had fallen into the fireplace, showered, then fell asleep for a hair over 10 hours. I started writing this at 3:30 in the morning. Anyway, ACen.
Thank goodness we had all 11 of us for the trip over there. I would've been bored to death if the cramped spaces didn't make me lose it first. 2000 miles of traveling and I'm finally done with all of it. It's more than twice as long as any road trip I've ever been on. The company was wonderful and the tunes filled the times when we were either asleep or too exhausted to carry any conversation. Can't find that remix of Memory of Forgathering Dream for the life of me though. :(

Hey thair Nobu and Railgun! Good ta meecha! I always enjoy meeting you guys. I do have a distinct appreciation for simply meeting and knowing how people are doing more than some may realize. I apologize if I wasn't too social. I'm typically not one to jump right into other people's established conversations and was often wrapped up in my own conversations when not in the photoshoots directly. Still, good to know people are out and about having a good time. Red, I just realized the only pictures I have of you are group photos =(

As stupid and as much of a waste as it was, I loved the arcade they had there. Metal Slug and Time Crisisa totally awesome game for totally awesome gentlemen such as ourselves. I put nearly as much money into the arcade as I did the dealers room. Best part? Mefidex, Zakenna, K and myself all playing TMNT Turtles in Time all at once from start to finish. Extremely awesome game for extremely awesome gentlemen such as ourselves. My only regret is that they didn't have the game that first gave me any bit of interest in shmups in the first place but what were the odds of that anyway?
To be brief about the midwest Touhou fandom as a whole: Not a single bit of ill intent in the bunch, but I do have a strong appreciation for the subtlety and mannerisms of the east coast's fandom as a whole. That being said, I'm just not the type of person to be at all boisterous, obtrusive, or call for much attention, and I have at best a limited appreciation for memes of any variety. It's socially exhausting for me to be around these types of people for very long, too. Toohoo cosplay was great fun, even if we got stopped every ten seconds for pics when we were trying to be busy. But no okamisty! I was going to adopt her! Felt real sorry for the Rumia who wound up with food poisoning though. :C
Even if you're the type of person who doesn't get much out of socializing, the trip was worth it for its comedic value. Lots of funny moments in general. We had enough ridiculous happenings, cracks about balls and things that were deliberately misconstrued as racial slurs to last the trip. We watched Airplane. Momi in cosplay at 3 rest stops, dopey stuff happened that I wasn't even aware of. The panels that I visited were exclusively for comedic value. Metal Wolf Chaos is a phenomenon that has to be experienced. When the president of the US rides a giant mech into battle against the vice president's coup d'?tat forces on Alcatraz island, claiming he's going to "crush them faster than a Florida recount," you know it's going to be hysterical. The guy didn't even have to talk. The game told the story itself.
I think Mima-sama and I are going to have to get hitched out of principle, much to the chagrin of a friend of ours who has been a bit sweet on me recently. A piggyback ride, holding the back of his Mima outfit like you would a very formal dress (amongst OTHER things), sentai posing, reenacting scenes from the movie Titanic, and him asleep and drooling on my shoulder at 4 in the morning. What the hell. I didn't want it to come to this.

Yesyesyes! Just be mindful that I cannot recommend a 14 hour road trip. Take the damn train. Unless you have an affinity for leg cramps and being in environments that can cause embolisms. Still, not only will you have the chance to meet pretty much the entire east coast Touhou fandom, but you'll get to 'experience' Baltimore as well! And might I also suggest the superior Touhou panel and the sagacious gentlemen who run it?

Fun times guys. Van ride there and back was something else. 2 mini road trips and 2 big ones made for an interesting trip. Also the first con where Utsuho didn't have a wardrobe malfunction and 2nd con where I didn't leave a piece of it at home :D (except that cement boot...just no..never again). I know I met a bunch of the Mid-west Touhous but I've already forgotten their names, although I'm not sure if any of them are on here anyway.
