She needs a magical staff.

Other than that, I approve~! b^_^d The outfit is so cute, and I could really see her fighting the evil forces of... Um... Whatever it is a web application would find evil, I guess (malware and viruses?).

...I would totally watch the hell out of a Magical Girl Silverlight-tan anime, really. >.>

I think it's pretty awesome that she's an official Microsoft construct.

I wonder what Bill thinks.

Windows 7-tan is also adorable.  I find it funny that Microsoft has pretty much embraced the whole OS-tan movement and are even using it for their marketing gimmicks now.

Gates said he'll get to you on that after he's finished driving his gold plated car. I kind of want to know this too.

Why is Microsoft marketing in Asia so awesome?

Taiwan is probably the only place apart from Japan that actually holds dedicated Touhou conventions ala Reitaisai, now if that isn't special I don't know what is.

Why is Microsoft marketing in Asia so awesome?

Yes, why? Especially when their marketing in America is so amateurish and wince-inducingly shitty. Remember the Gates/Seinfeld (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIjNJZpRtj8) commercials? Do I even need to bring up the horror that is the Songsmith commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTXG2uKNLIw)? And yet in Asia, they create anime characters.

I'm not an expert on PR, but my guess is that Microsoft, like other ginormous corporations, contracts advertising firms and takes their word for it with regards to what will "work" and what won't. Why their Asian advertising agents are so savvy and their North American counterparts are so utterly clueless is beyond me.

It makes sense that North American advertisers don't know how to advertise, because the North American consumer base, by and large, doesn't know what it wants. >_>

IMHO her outfit is extremely cute.  Man I don't get how Microsoft's advertising team is so inconsistent.  Their Windows 7 campaign in Japan/Asia was brilliant (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-04-30/windows-7-gets-anime-ad-with-nanami-madobe-mascot friggen Nana Mizuki to voice an OS theme? :o).  And now the Silverlight thing for their annual tech conference in Taiwan.

But then you look at how AWFUL the Windows 7 advertisements were here (lol WINDOWS 7 WAS MY IDEA and the awful Seinfeld ones), as well as the countless PR gaffs MS has done with the 360 in Japan.  Seriously, if it weren't for MS Japan the 360 would have crushed the PS3.

Why is Microsoft marketing in Asia so awesome?

The bun is your system resources.

The meat is windows 7.

The jawlock is pain.

Man all my system sounds are Mizuki Nana telling me politely and moe-ly what's going on

Doesn't get much better than that

Silverlight-tan is beyond adorable too

She actually fights the evil forces of non-Micro$oft products.

I remember seeing one of the official 7-tan commercials. Somehow, animated moe-posturing managed to come off as wooden and forced. I wasn't particularly interested in any of the specific "this is why 7 is awesome" things it highlighted either.

I won't be impressed until we start seeing some hot OS-on-OS action. I'm envisioning Windows 7-tan dominating Vista-tan, or the both of them abusing XP-tan (because she has such poor defenses, you see).
