Title: National Football League, 2010 season discussion thread
Post by: Edible on August 11, 2010, 03:02:00 PM
Because hey, why not.

Welcome to Ye Olde NFL Thread, where there are no cute girls, there is no danmaku, and warm tea is substituted for ice-cold gatorade.  Instead, there is a team of eleven guys attempting to smash a team of eleven other guys before they manage to reach a designated strip of land while holding a ball.

Preseason is underway finally, after a very busy offseason for a lot of teams.  Still plenty of contract drama to be had if you're into that.

I keep forgetting Japan knows what football is.

Anyway, in hilarious news the Jets offered Revis a 10-year, $120m contract and he turned it down.

GO RAVENS!!  I hope this year Flacco and Co.  finally find their groove.  The last couple years have been nothing but craziness.

Didn't the Ravens pick up Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth?  As long as Flacco stops throwing like a moron I can't see them doing anything but improving.

Cheese heads unite :V

My coworker (who's a Raiders fan lol) keeps on ragging on me that the Bears are going to stomp us.  I seriously seriously doubt it.

Raiders are looking up though, so I guess he has that to look forward to.

I'm predicting another year of mediocrity for the Panthers, par for the course at this point.

At least we're not the Bears

Being in Chicago, I'm always hearing about da bearz and how this is the year.

I hope your teams win just so that they'll stop. ;_;

Chicago sports fans don't know what "stop" is.

Look at the Cubs.

Cubs vs Sox is something you get all the freaking time here too. If the teams ever face each other in a World Series, the entire city will probably riot.

...I don't know a thing about how baseball works, and I have only an inkling of football knowledge (mostly from reading Eyeshield 21). Football seems more fun to watch and play, imo, but I don't really keep track of any particular teams or anything. :c

Football is infinitely more entertaining than baseball, 'tis true - though there are a lot more penalties in Football, and it's becoming much more tame than it used to be (thanks, Goodell).

Oh God! I've been without cable since April! Gimme a chance to catch up! My body is not ready!

Also, Favre confirmed for retirement in 2374.

That looked like an ellipsis until I quoted your post and was about to go "what!  source".

Football's more entertaining to watch. Baseball's more entertaining to play.

He's a champ.  I'm sure he doesn't care about the fine, but seriously?  $25,000 for a tweet?

Goodell needs to get his head out of his ass.

So if I post the letter J, would I need to pay about $200?

I'm excited for this year primarily because I've got cable back and missed out on half the baseball season. I sorta hate to say it, but I really wish something would happen so the whole Brett Favre thing ends and I can go on to trying to avoid LeBron James' ego. After all, I hear ESPN was going to do 7 hours of analysis on the 4 plays he ran the other day, but decided to cut it down to 5 after they realized he only passed for one of them.

That's one of the downsides of sportscenter, yes.  They run the show all day and constantly run out of things to talk about.

On the other hand...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/25/mark-sanchez-i-love-the-patriots-i-love-tom-brady/

Quote
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said this week that he hates the Jets, while Jets coach Rex Ryan said he hates the Patriots.

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is declining to escalate the situation.

Asked if the feeling of hatred was mutual, Sanchez said, "No, I love the Patriots. I love Tom."

Then Sanchez looked into a TV camera and said, "I love you, Tom."

Michael Vick is now officially the starter for the Eagles.  Surprising, but this has "Andy Reid was pressured into it" written all over it.

How did the Bills manage to rack up so many points in their loss to the Pats? It's not a gripe so much as it is an anomaly of probability and statistics. Oh well.

As for tonight, go GB!

Insanity abound.  Randy Moss to the Vikings (Favre gets his birthday wish), Lynch to the Seahawks, Vincent Jackson potentially to the Patriots...
