DirectX 9? I'm not on my computer, I'm visiting family, so I wouldn't know.
How do I check? Please be patient with me, I don't know much about computers.

Methinks you either don't have DirectX 9 installed, or you don't have a DirectX 9-capable videocard.  When you get back to your computer, check your computer's specs and post them here please.
