If fanon decides to twist Cirno even more as a result of this game, whoopdeedoo. Anyone who likes Cirno isn't going to suddenly be turned off by her starring in a game, and the people who hate her for the aforementioned reasons aren't going to hate her more for any reasons they don't already have.

Really while I'm sure I'll be surprised, I can't really see the fanbase changing Cirno too much. She's been around since EoSD so her personalities pretty well established in fannon so there won't be as much impetus to change anything. In addition her defining characteristic (idiocy/naivety) falls under the "stupid easy to write" category, so unlike Alice she doesn't have to worry about all the bad writers keelhauling her personality to try to find a story hook. Sometimes simplicity is a virtue.
I expect a few meta jokes, a few bad doujin, and not much changing on a grand scale.
The three fairies of light on the other hand....

about the topic, though.. sure, Cirno has appeared quite a lot in the games (and I honestly liked to play as her in PoFV. Her ability to convert some of the onscreen shots into chainable shots, plus my ability to get all greedy over score, should explain why), but.. have people considered that it would be pointless ( or at least feel strange ) to have a powerful character to fight the 3 (or 5, if Daiyousei and Lily White are in -- if the game's limited to fairy characters) fairies? And/or that ZUN may have thought of a gameplay which would fit with Cirno better than with someone else?

Though honestly I don't think that it will take off as it did for Aya/Sanae. I myself don't like cirno, but I don't hate her. She's just a meh character IMO.

Oh that is /hilarious/. But I agree with Ghaleon, I think Cirno's kinda... wedged herself into the fandom enough to where the 'Cirno is a slut' thing will only be some kind'a half-assed meme at best.

Cirno is obligatory comedic relief. Maybe a little ditzy, perhaps a bit of an idiot, but that doesn't mean she's like, retarded to the point of having no common sense or something. She's a fairy. She happens to have the ability to manipulate the cold, and to form ice. Ice can be pretty potent - it's dense, if it breaks and falls apart, all you have to do is melt it down and then freeze it again and it's just as strong as it was before... science science science Touhou logic magic magic, Cirno just happens to have been lucky enough to have gotten an ability that can actually be pretty powerful. Ergo, she's a fairly high-key character - except she's not a full human or full youkai, so, short straw.

Cirno's charm is in being both childish and child-like. She can be stubborn, a braggart, and arrogant, but her boasts, being empty, have this innocent charm to them. She's arguably one of Touhou's iconic characters. And she's fun to play against in StB. So, yeah. She deserves it.

other than that, it's just the advent cirno thing. I mean, yeah, cirno vaguely sounds like children. so what?! at least make it with someone who ALREADY has a sword, like youmu. It would annoy me still, but to less of a degree.

This is a bigger problem than it should be because there are so many goddamn people that treat fanon like the god source of material even if it isn't. People need to lay off that stuff. Cirno is Cirno, nothing more. People are free to think of Cirno as whatever she is, but when they start parading it around like it's the real deal and completely ignore canon, something is definitely wrong.
This isn't a matter of whether "Cirno's safe" or not, this is a matter of whether people will take the fanon epidemic even more seriously than usual.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Cirno's character is easy for even the dumbest person to depict. It would take actual work for someone to screw her up.

I don't worry too much about Cirno as well. After all, Aya got her own game pretty much immediately after she got introduced, and the community knows Cirno for years now. If they don't pull a 180, it should be fine.

Cirno's going to be fine. Nothing in the game implies anything that could change her personality or create any memes.
Besides, she's in a game with the three mischievous fairies! They make everyone the appear around look better. Hell, Cirno appearing in Oriental Sacred place made me like her. I doubt anything bad can happen, right?

Getting my mind from between those tits, I'm not exactly getting why they would want a combo of Cirno and Sanae. It would have been better understood if it were Aya since, she also went her own way with StB, but Sanae doesn't seem to fit this trope.

anyway, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be more than just the fairies we already know. I'm assuming this is going to be similar to the normal Touhou games except with cirno, and an added ability to freeze danmaku in place. Since it was described as a 'danmaku freezing game'.

well fairies have always been pushed around by reimu and marisa and others, so its good that they're getting their own game. Perhaps Reimu will be the final boss? :derp:
I really hope there are at least a few non-fairies in the game. Daiyousai (sp?), Koakuma, and Tokiko for starters.

Yep, Dai-chan's got a passable chance, as she's a fairy and she appeared in the manga (even if she didn't get a speaking role).
Koa appeared as well interestingly, but I'm not going to make any bets there. I'd find it totally awesome if she did appear though. Same with Tokiko.

She's been around so long, and has been featured in multiple games. So, are, I think the deal with Sanae and and Aya were that they were given playing roles too early. So I wouldn't worry about out little nine-ball, there might even be more fanart for her after this. Oh, and Cirno game~~Just think about it.
