Title: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil box of gibberish

I recently got into Touhou, and decided to download The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.  I click the third file in the folder, seen here:

and the screen goes dark like wherever a game is loading up, but then I get this:

Erm... 

while this thread still exists and isn't locked...

check your videocard/chip and see if it's has any actual 3d graphics acceleration.  Touhou games actually need it.  Also, try re-installing your games, looks like there could also be a corrupted file somewhere.

What're your system specs, hardware and software?

Oh, jeez, I actually had no idea it was pirated.  Sorry.

As for System Specs:
OS: Windows Vista:  Home Premium Edition
Processor: Inter(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
Memory(RAM): 6.00 GB
System-Type: 64-bit OS

Hummm hummm...  well, while you figure out how to legally acquire the games, what kind've videocard do you have?

Also, "certain" nVidia cards completely suck at running most doujin games.

A lot of the English patches create a new executable file, which you can open to run the game in English. The original executable is still there in case you want to run the game in Japanese.

What you're clicking on is the original .exe. You want the "th06e" one.

Also, EoSD wasn't designed with non-japanese computers in mind at all, so it has a lot of trouble running on them (mostly due to Japanese filenames). Please read the "Japanese Language Packs + AppLocale Tutorial" thread, it is a sticky in this same sub-forum.

I can't remember if the EoSD english-patched .exe can run without AppLocale or Japanese regional settings, but if anything, the error you're getting is probably the game not finding the files it needs to run (again, due to their names being in Japanese).

Ah, yes... AppLocale does run on Vista, but to install it you'll need to run it as admin. Open a command line as admin (right click on the Start Menu entry > Run as administrator), then go to the folder with the AppLocale installer, and open it form there.

This is the most likely cause ^

After using the English patch, I can't play the Japanese one anymore. I must have done something wrong.
Anyone getting that issue?

I'm pretty sure that's just how the patch works for EoSD.
