I was about to play SA earlier today when I found out that my controller wasn't working. I made sure it was in the Player 1 port of my PS2 USB controller adapter and nothing worked.
Then I checked the log file of the game and got this.
Touhou log -----------------------------------------------
Cannot use DirectInput SetCooperativeLevel.
Using T&L HAL!
DirectSound initialized normally.
----------------------------------------------------------
All the other touhou games I have work perfectly fine. Which is what I don't get. Game 12 uses the same if not similar mechanics I believe so I'm very curious and upset that SA isn't reading my controller. One of my fave games and I can't play it the way i normally do :(
Anyone know how to fix this? I'm still searching google and other places I can to fix this now but so far nothing.
I had this problem once before in the past but it wasn't an error it was just my controller being in the Player 2 port apparently...I loled but now its not the case for sure.

Try rebooting or re-inserting the adapter and see what happens. It's possible that you plugged your controller in at the wrong time or another program requested exclusive access and never freed it.
And make sure that the controller is plugged in and recognized by the PC before you start the game.

I've had this problem as well. AFAIK SA is the only game that suffers from this issue.
