Curious curious, how many people here actually played Age of Empires 1 and 2 in their younger days? (Note, not Age of Empires 3 or Age of Mythology etc. They are not oldschool enough.)
If so, is anybody fancy to play a game over TCP/IP ? I myself used to play Age of empires 1 actively on Microsoft Zone. My speciality was generally Death Match. I am not that high skilled in Random map games. And Age of Empires 2 is entirely out of my boundaries, but still in for a game to get spanked.

I used to play Age of Empires 1 for a bit too. Then I really got into Age of Empires 2 once I found out about it.
I tended to spam race exclusive units because I thought they were totally awesome. Cataracts are pretty buff compared to the other uniques.
So I guess my specialty would be cheesing and relic hunting? I really want to know what happened to my expansion disk because I feel like playing again.
-
I played them a lot, but I don't have the games or the skill anymore.
-
Oh man, how I used to play AoE 2. Spamming castles like they were walls was just beautiful.
-
I got the first game with a games magazine and played the crap out of it. For some reason, I liked to spam phalanxes... :/
-
I used to play this a lot back in the day. Both AoE1 and AoE2.
-
Played and loved both. Rise of Rome was an excellent expansion if you ask me.

We should tune our games (aka similar versions etc) and try to have a game vs the computer or against each other.
I don't know how many people are also familiar with the concept of "archer blood" "castle blood" in AoK and AoC? Those were mainly my interests to play. I also made my own version of it actually which I call "Hill ownage". If anyone is interested, I can upload it here so you can check it out.

There needs to be a game mode called "Cataphract spam". That's pretty much what I end up doing 9 out of 10 games.

Those units are way overpowered in Aoe2. In Aoe1 there was no such thing as counter unit. Basically it was siege > cavalry > soldiers > villagers.
But that isn't entirely true either as Helepolis only could take them out fast or Centurions. And Choson legions are a bitch :V
-
I remember in AoE2, I love loading up battering rams with Teutonic Knights. A group of these rams took down castles like it was sand.
-
I'm not sure how to get TCP/IP working without some sort of matchmaking program.
Since Microsoft Zone is deprecated, what do you suggest, Hereporis?

Ethlin, Acidus and me had a 3v3 the computer when suddenly the game froze :V We were even winning.
We need to have more victims for this also testing a custom map :V

I would totally be up for games if we can get some organized. It was fun back in the day. I assume for AoE2 everyone's using the 1.0c patch right?

No, we are running from CD 1.0 because 1.0c is fucking terrible for netplay.
-
What Hime said. 1.0c gives trouble during netplay. Sync out or incorrect version. I experienced this before when trying it out with my nephews. Seems like some dorks released multiple versions of 1.0c which have different content thus desyncs.
If you want to play , make sure you have 1.0 aka fresh install from CD
Here is a screenshot of a recent game we played vs the AI. (Computer resigns too fast though.)

AoE.
Hell yeah.
I used to ace at this, my strategems were undefeatable, even on the highest levels.
However, I've since then uninstalled AoE.
....I really should re-install it.

More like Heavy Horse Archers > Siege > Cavalry > Soldiers > Villagers.
I swear I lost more games to those things and micro than I did anything else.
