Title: COMMAND AND CONQUER: 『GENERALS -ZERO HOUR-』
Post by: Infy♫ on May 08, 2010, 08:09:42 PM
the game Naut got addicted to, the game that equals europe to germany (yes), the game with dutch road signs, it's generals. ololololo
this is a discussion thread. Got a good strategy? Got problems beating a mission? you can post it here, and stuff.
Am I really the only one who still plays it, in this community? If you're looking for matches, by the way, look no further xD

No love for Tiberium Wars?   :(

I guess this will be my 87 bajillionth attempt to find my Generals disks.

This is my fave C&C personally. I just hate playing GLA though. Seems like they have no good counter against armor except for angry mobs, which are probably one of the most vulnerable units in the game (against anti-infantry stuff I mean), not to mention slow as #@%#@.

Doesn't help I was never much for stealthy sneaky strategies. Scud storm is amazing though. Just as good as a nuke IMO, only with a shorter cooldown, no power cost (makes making them SOO much easier), and is actually more deadly against other gla enemies since it's multiple explosions in one area instead of 1 big one... Unfortunately they seem the least able to defend them >=(

I'll be honest, I preferred Red Alert 2 and the other Westwood-era C&C games, but I like a lot of the Generals-era units, such as the Marauder and Chinese artillery units.

Used to play the Shockwave (http://shockwave.swr-productions.com/) mod with friends, final version looked very promising but sadly it's vaporware now.

As for original Zero Hour, it's fun to screw around with, but the better you are at the game, the less fun it is.

I for one think C&C 4 is a piece of masterwork, it is a new type of strategy game where actual allied strategy matters. Grabbing points, and having limited units and multiple MCV upgrade and skills makes all the strategies varied, stuff which means your ally must do for you to make it possible to stand out and capture the tiberium hubs.

Like real war, where you can't send tanks to mine oil but instead capture oil rigs to gain money, this is the sort of thing is risky, strategic and cunning which will guide the player to victory. Timing, micromanagement, all make this game significantly better than previous stale C&C games. The fact everyone is whining about it because C&C dares to purge the age old formula and introduce new discomforts and fun into the old time strategy game player's mind.

What? can't be a farming gold whore anymore? can't abuse unit numbers? Micromanage!

Nod in this installation is fucking strong... the support class MCV gives some of most incredible repair vehicles and attack powers ever. Seriously, the Leviathan is incredible hax.

Personally I'm still enjoying Yuri's Revenge.  It's kind of broken, but in a "Everyone's awesome" broken sort of way.

...Although I'm kind of beginning to suspect that the Soviet factions might have gotten the shaft balance-wise, but that might be because my group's only regular Soviet player tends to be... well, not so great.

I usually use the GLA toxin general. Not because it's a good one (blah superweapon bitch) but it's quite a challenge to beat your opponent with it.

as for yuri's revenge, i gotta say i've played it a lot, but I suck at it... people even restart games when they see i'm not good. pretty unsportive eh? The soviet faction seems to be the black sheep of the transition from RA2 to YR. it loses Yuri and the cloning vats (things i consider some of their best technologies) while the allies get an almost soviet-like moving bunker and robot tanks, with which they can actually counter yuri's bullshit. soviets are however supposed to defeat the yuri faction with only terror drones and flying units.

i heard RA3 is crap. is this true?

I've enjoyed the hell out of RA3, though it does have balance issues. Poor Empire, not having tier-1 anti-air.
