Title: Recommended specs for Windows 7 PC
Post by: Kayin on May 08, 2010, 03:46:55 AM
Hey everyone, this is my first post here but I'm definitely not new to Touhou, though I'm no expert. I've been playing on and off for a couple years now and have been lurking this place for a while. (It's been quite useful.)

Anyways, I'm looking to be building a new PC sometime soon, and as good as XP has been to me, I think it's time to upgrade to 7.

So my question is, what are the recommended system specs for running the games (specifically MoF through UFO, which I get framedrops on at the moment) at 60 FPS during gameplay at all times? I'm not a huge PC gamer (I prefer consoles) so I don't really want to splurge on a video card that I don't need, but I would like to be able to run all of these games smoothly, as it seems onboard is too weak for the newer games. Basically, I'd like to know what range of video cards would be good without being overkill, as well as a general idea of what specs such as RAM and processors are recommended.

I would also like to know if 32 bit win7 is advantageous to 64 bit win7 in this regard.

Suggestions on specs for games like Koumajou Densetsu are also welcome too. (It chugs for me at the moment.)

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help out.

Any mid-range parts should do.  Current dual-core processor, mid-range videocard (generally with 512MB video RAM or more), 4GB or more system RAM, fairly fast Serial ATA harddrive, etc.  You'll definitely want a 64-bit OS, even if you're running 32-bit applications, since it'll give the OS more room to function (i.e.  higher memory address space, better CPU operation, etc.).  Most computers today come with at least 4GB of system RAM (if not more), so having a 64-bit OS will be necessary.

You don't need an absolute high-end system, but it helps to have a fairly powerful one.

Thanks, I was shooting for a mid-range system anyways so this really helps to know.
