Gameplay video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkKVR9Z0Sag)
Essentially this is a MegamanX/Zero clone. You play as a Yukkuri Yukari with a red skirt and no arms, fighting against things like Tenshi's rocks, demented Reisens, and Bacteriophageflandres.
This game is seriously amazing. Amazing presentation, amazing graphics, amazing music, amazing gameplay, amazing EVERYTHING. From the DMC style menus, to the epic opening sequence, to the holy music, to the crazy action packed gameplay, and this is just the demo!
Basic gameplay is done with 5 buttons; dash, shoot, jump, slash, and change weapon.
Dash is very similar to the fighting game flight. You can dash up to three times in the air in any direction, and you graze al bullets while dashing.
Shoot shoots a basic shot, charging it a bit unleashes a spread shot, charging it more shoots an amulet. Apparently you can shoot huge fucking lasers too but I haven't figured out how yet.
Jump is... self explanitory. You can "wall climb" in the exact same way that X and Zero can.
Slash is like your Z-saber, only you kick the opponent in various ways depending on your input. There seems to be quite a number of different of attacks you can do.
Here's my inquiries for how things work:
Controls:
Shot (press): Fires a small triad of amulets.
Shot (hold, stage 1): Fires a random spread of amulets.
Shot (hold, stage 2): Fires a big amulet ahead.
Kick (press, ground): Slashes once. Repeatedly press to unleash a three-hit combo.
Dash (hold) + Forward + Kick (press, ground): Dash kick.
Forward + Kick (press, ground): Single forward lunge.
Forward + Kick (hold, ground): Charged forward lunge. Does more damage.
Down + Kick (press, ground): Launcher. Enemy will fly up if it hits.
Up + Kick (press, ground): Anti-air. Chains hits well.
Kick (press, air): Slashes once. Repeatedly press to unleash a three-hit combo (also maintains altitude during combo).
Dash (hold) + Up + Kick (press, air): Repeatedly press to unleash an aerial upward three-hit combo (also maintains altitude during combo).
Down + Kick (press, air): Slams your foot into the ground. Think of it as Kirby's Final Cutter.
Dash: Press and hold to fly in any of the eight cardinal directions. Can be used twice before landing. Cancels bullets, but not enemies. The mid-boss's legs can be dashed through.
Skill (press, ground + air): Consumes one ribbon gauge. IaMP bomb that eats bullets and momentarily halts enemy actions.
Shot (hold), then Skill (press/hold, ground): Consumes two ribbon gauges minimum. Can increase usage to four ribbon gauges. Fires the Takorin Spark (たこりんスパーク). Just pressing it will fire a narrow laser. Holding it will increase the spark's size, but will consume a ribbon gauge for each stage of the laser (up to two stages, four ribbons max).
Notes:
- A Playstation controller would be great, because you can play it like a Mega Man X game. A really absurd Mega Man X game. Press TAB in Key Config to switch to Joypad controls.
- Dashes are your friend.
- It's possible to skip the mid-boss's suicide attack by destroying it with your spark before its health reaches the 1 half gauge point.
- Surprisingly, if you change your keys in the config, the commands for those keys will show up in the tutorial as the ones you changed them to.
- TAKKOMAN is extremely hard.
Yeah I'm looking out for this baby when it comes out this coming Comiket

oh it is a secret whatever I thought it was free

Anyways!
I must say, TAKKOMAN is extremely hard.

Oh so that's what the fifth button does. Somehow I read it as "change skill/weapon" :/
Looking at the trailers, it seems that demented Sanae is the boss of the demo, but I can't get that far because yes this game is hard but awesome :V

Did you try the tried and true "Switch compatability mode to Win2000" yet? If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.
In other news, I've gotten down the demo stage to a nearly excellent status. (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4313/takorinspark2.png)
Also, I've got screen caps for the three subtitles in the cutscene after the stage. Be warned, however: I didn't really go out of my way to actually crop these. Just know that it's the window that says TAKKOMAN, obviously.
Subtitle 1 (http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/5558/stageend1.png)
Subtitle 2 (http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2904/stageend2.png)
Subtitle 3 (http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/8818/stageend3.png)
Understandably, it's as interesting as a plotline in a Mega Man X game.
EDIT: Should really get someone to translate the intro and such.
Also, Suikama, if you ever do get to it and want to, I think I'm done writing down the controls so you can put it in the first post. Someone should translate the manual, of course, to clarify what gibberish I've sprouted (and also, how the Iku bottle score counter system works), but I've done good enough. Edit my text however you wish.
-
This looks about as awesome as it is punishingly difficult. Loving those backgrounds. Just hope the in game sound track is as good as it is in the gameplay videos lol
-
Is it sad that I beat the demo on my first try in one life? (Do you even have lives in this game, or is it just one chance and you're through?)
Although I will admit I got lucky on Sanae. Her vine things were really cooperative with health drops.
-
You get x2 lives (technically 3) just like any megaman game
-
ew
this game encourages boss milking for score
EDIT: I guess I should make this post useful.
Getting used to the normal controls is really bad, so I decided to switch up my config!
C is to dash, I use that a lot. X is to kick, it's how I dispatch everything.
Z is jump, but who jumps when you can straight out dash from the ground?
S is both shot and skill because the only time I will actually use shot is when I want to shoot a Takorin Spark. Unfortunately, with this setup, I can't milk the boss for score because you have to keep shooting it to increase the bonus score counter. Shot of course overrides skill when I have less than one ribbon gauge, hooray.
EDIT 2:
Once you figure out that you can dash *from the ground to the air*, you will abuse it to go faster and beat the clock. Jumping is slowing than dashing and harder to control (hey gravity!).
I didn't think this game had a limit to the time multiplier... (http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4486/speedtakorin.png)
EDIT 3:
TAKKOMAN's Game Over music is so serene. It makes losing almost feel nice.
-
Oh wow. That looks...interesting. Fun too
-
You can't wall climb without the jump button though.
Well, unless grabbing the wall resets your dash counter.
-
You can't wall climb without the jump button though.
Well, unless grabbing the wall resets your dash counter.
You can dash three times: One off the horizontal ground (it doesn't matter if you dash on the ground or dash off the ground into the air), then two more air dashes.
Grabbing the wall does reset your dash counter, so you can touch the wall, dash off, and dash up, then land again.
Unfortunately, the game does not count the wall as a horizontal surface for a ground dash, so you're limited to the two air dashes when you touch the wall.
When I speed run, I try my best to avoid all the walls except for the one ascending to the boss of the stage. Instead of using the method I described, I just land on the wall and dash diagonally up towards the other wall and repeat until I'm up the chute.
-
Man I love the opening
It's just so... epic
-
Finally got it working, I was just being a major derpsicle.
Dear God this game is amazing. The sooner this gets fanart, the better. Got to Sanae on my third try, haven't beaten her yet.
Kind of wondering though, how do you dodge the midboss's last attack? I've been using the Takorin Spark, but I'd rather not waste that there if at all possible.
EDIT2: Meh, doesn't matter. Just beat Sanae. :V Wish the demo was longer, can't wait for the full game.
-
Just dash out of the way. As long as you don't get hit by the huge spark you're fine.

So, this specific yukkuri is a Yukari Yukkuri, explaining her amazing skills at asskicking. But where does her 'Takorin' name come from?
As far as I can judge the trailer, the plot seems as follows:
The Lunarians tried making genetic copies of the Gensokyo residents, probably just to show off that their Touhous are better than Gensokyo's Touhous. However, everything went horrifically wrong during development, creating deformed mockeries of the Touhous. These abominations blew off a chunk off the moon, and are now riding it into the Earths atmosphere to cause mass chaos and havoc. However, there has been one slightly successful copy: Takorin, a copy of the mighty gap youkai Yukari Yakumo. Takorin, who does possess common sense and a bit of morality, tries to stop all these abominations before things get out of hand and the world get's overrun by these horrors!

Actually I think the site says she has Reimu's body from the waist down.
Not that that answers your question, but yeah.

too bad it is written in moonspeak.

Hmm, the other character on the banner sems to named Ikange (A pun on Squid - Ika + Udonge). I'm guessing she's eiher another playable character, or a support character.
Just found something. You can dash in any direction without then eed of the dash button. Double tap in any direction to dash in the air or along the ground. To dash off the ground, tap down and then up/upforward/upbackward just like in fighting games.
-
Forgive me father, for I have sinned by taking so long to play this. Awesome stuff; gameplay and presentation are both superb. Only real annoyance is the usual Megaman problem of the difficulty fluctuating depending on health drops. Beat Sanae on my 3rd life.
Two Qs - 1. Can you get fullscreen? 2. How in ze hell do you dodge Sanae's laser attack?
-
1. Don't think so
2. I believe you've supposed to graze for the duration of it but I haven't pulled it off yet. I suppose you could also retaliate with your own laser attack. Luckily it doesn't deal too much damage.
-
2. How in ze hell do you dodge Sanae's laser attack?
It's aimed at you, so just jump above her then fly diagonally down as it fires.
-
First two times I tried this game, it felt awkward. Couldn't get past midboss. On my third attempt I used the keyboard of my laptop instead of Xbox 360 controller. It felt a lot better and I beat the demo with ease. Weird... Also, there seems to be no fullscreen but at least you can expand the window by dragging its' corner. But if this is MMX clone, shouldn't there be something equivalent of the 8 Robot Masters? 8 strange mutated Touhou characters? Or even worse, Yukkuris? (no Alice yukkuri, I beg)
-
Well Megaman X games typically have a first boss before you can fight the 8 robot masters, and in this game after you beat the boss you
fall to earth
where presumably there will be 8 mutant masters or something.
-

Well, the demo had a fairly disturbing Sanae boss, right?
-

Indeed. That probably was the introduction stage (and a very hard one), but otherwise the "Mutant Masters" probably aren't that big. I have beaten X4 and X5...and this game looks very promising. Maybe it'll be better than any the MMX games, like MegaMari was better than any of the original Megamen. And MM3 was the worst IMO.
-
No, MM3 was the best one of 1-8. >:(((
-
No, MM3 was the best one of 1-8. >:(((
No Way. That's like saying "SoEW is best of all Touhou games". I mean, MM3 is just about bad design. EVERYWHERE. Most stages and bosses are stupidly designed (especially Wily castle), very stupid weapons (Top Spin?!) and the last boss is a really bad joke. Yes, you get to fight MM2's bosses again, but that just adds the feeling that the game was made in quite a hurry. Oh yeah, Rush and Protoman made their debut, but still...and I have beaten that freakin' game three times, so I think I know what I'm blabbing about. GODDAMN OOPS this is not the place to start trol-ranting about Megaman games? What have I done...

*Random post*
Seems there was an update to .22B. Head to the download section here for a patch released today in Japan.
http://illucalab.com/
Anyway I can't play it so I won't be able to enjoy it. Get an error saying "Error: Cannot Open the Resource" so.
-
The patch says ver 0.22, however the demo version (at least the one I have) is version 0.31, so I don't think that's actually a new patch
-
0_o' That looks awesome.
I especially liked the shittete ne of Flandre's head. :P
