No mention of Great Unclean One?

Loved the first Dawn of War, should I get the second and its expansions as well?
-
Play the tabletop game. So worth it.

Yes yes yes, and yes.
DoW2 is incredibly streamlined and ridiculously fun to play. It is literally the twitch FPS of strategy games, all combat no boring base management or flow breaking econ management. There is no other RTS like it.
-
Chaos Rising is such an odd subtitle.

I liked DoW1 and hated DoW2, just saying.
Edit: I suppose I should elaborate.
The GRIMDARK atmosphere that made DoW1 awesome is completely gone; all the maps in DoW1 were blasted wastelands with over-the-top gothic architecture and rivers made of blood, and when units get into battle there's constant screaming and long-winded battlecries, it's just hilarious and a lot of fun. In DoW2 you fight in bright green jungles and your units are mostly silent. When I click on my Space Marine, I want him to say "IDLENESS LEADS TO HERESY!!" not "Yes brother"; in DoW1 they sounded pissed off all the time and now they're just boring.
Aesthetics aside, I don't like how the game plays out. I only played in beta but what I've heard from other people echoes my observations. Capture points barely do anything anymore and are indefensible, so there's nothing aside from holding victory points that's going to give you an edge over your opponent. Attacking their base does nothing, you can't feasibly destroy it. In other words, you don't have to defend anything (because you either don't need to or can't) and the maps are quite large; so basically you can run around in circles and never seriously engage the enemy if you don't want to. There's nothing to fight over except victory points anyway.
I understand that they were trying to go for guerilla combat or whatever but if there's nothing to harass - like a base - it's pointless.
I agree that the first two minutes of building workers and a barracks in standard RTS is boring but this is not the way to fix it.
If the game has changed significantly through patching (I doubt it, lol Relic) or with this expansion I might be willing to take another look at it, but I haven't heard anything to that extent.

Different strokes for different folks. DoW2 is NOT a sequel to DoW1, it is a radically different game. Not saying it's for everyone but there's definitely nothing like it.

Yes some of the atmosphere is gone but it went the way for far more polish IMHO. I will agree I found DoW1's voices far more humorous, although the Orks in DoW2 still have hilarious lines that get me every time.

Umm, you lose if you don't have control points. That IS your economy, and if you don't defend your points from harrassment/capturing, you will lose. You don't defend your power farm, and you're going to lose the tech race HARD.
If you just prioritize VPs and ignore everything else you will lose, simply put. They will have the econ to just steamroll you back to your base and camp you in.

That may be the case in 1v1, but in 2v2/3v3, you are forced to combat eachother, not just play musical capping chairs. And I've gotten base kills a multitude of times, they're hardly invulnerable.
I understand that they were trying to go for guerilla combat or whatever but if there's nothing to harass - like a base - it's pointless.
Erm, there's lots to harrass. You're fighting within the first 30 seconds, and if there's a break in combat you're doing something wrong (and letting the enemy gather strength and put you at a disadvantage). If you're not killing their units, you're decapping their points or setting up defensive positions, or destroying their power gens. If you're just idling you're wasting time and losing.
I agree that the first two minutes of building workers and a barracks in standard RTS is boring but this is not the way to fix it.
Like I said it's not for everyone. Personally I'm glad to be rid of having to know how to perfectly orient my barracks to get the optimal timing for my refinery and second supply depot. And when I tier up I don't have to worry about "did I build all the prerequisites I needed?"

Laugh all you want but Relic has done a fine job supporting this game, and fixing a lot of issues that were present. And it looks like the great support will continue. Other than Starcraft I've yet to see a multiplayer RTS given such attention to detail, even if sometimes they're a little off with balancing.

DoW2's multiplayer was alright until Tyranids got nerfed into oblivion. Since then I mainly stick with Last Stand.
Last Stand Hive Tyrant soon, yeaaaaaaaaah. :*
-
Why haven't I gone and bought DoW2 yet? You'd think I'd be all over that since I loved the first one, and I've recently upgraded so I'm certain I could run DoW2 this time around.

You mean when they stopped being the "I win" button race =P
Nids are plenty viable in current matchups. Only thing really wrong with them is a lack of variety and scaling issues from T1 units (outside of warriors).

Last time I checked, a single dreadnought basically raped an entire army since the 'nids have no solid anti-vehicle capabilities. (Unlike the latest tabletop Zoanthrope who is a god of tank raping.)
Something just bothered me about the fact that the melee based team gets horribly injured or even killed if no warriors are there by Banshees. >_>

Venom warriors + zoa stun, or RA corrosive devourer, or HT venom cannon owns vehicles hard. Dreads are hardly scary to the nid. Predators, OTOH, require you to get a VC carnifex and hope you can catch it unguarded.
As for horms vs banshees, yes horms are the worst melee unit in the game but they're getting significant buffs (reduced HG cost and the return of melee synapse) in the CR patch tomorrow.

I eagerly await to see if there will be a Steam sale for DoW2.
I should have bought the game when as soon as it came out, but why didn't I? How confounding.

DoW2 has been on sale on and off around the 15-20 dollar mark several times and CR is 30 dollars at launch. You can get both for the same price I paid for DoW2 at launch now :|
You don't have to have both either. You only need CR if you want to play Chaos or the new campaign. Inversely you don't need DoW2 vanilla if you just want to play Chaos, only if you want SM/Eldar/Ork/Nid and the original campaign. You can play MP with either copy.

Zoanthrope nerfed. Hahaha oh wow, he's like the worst unit in the game now. I swear the new Zoanthrope I bought for tabletop is crying now. :ohdear:

Erm, Zoas are the best artillery in the game. No friendly-fire, no setup time, and a vehicle stun. Plus that shield gives them monstrous resistances.
The "nerf" was a general nerf to artillery tracking overall. Rather than firing at the exact spot where a unit is, it will fire at the spot the unit was when the artillery started its windup. So no more instakill D-cannons of death.
Also, PATCH DOWNLOADING AAAAAAAAAAAAAA :o

Tried the new patch out. Not sure what to make of it. Genestealers are massively expensive and brittle, fine they have their infiltrate ti use ambushes but that seems far too situational to be useful. (Not to mention they start with scything talons which Tabletop Genestealers don't. :V They got the Rending > Scything right though)
Tyrant Guards are fucking mega tanks. Stuck one of those outside the enemies HQ and he was there for like... 5 minutes before I had to pull him back. Just want my Chaos Rising to arrive so I can Last Stand as a Hive Tyrant, though I'm saddened at there being no new map. Is there even any new waves?
-
God, I suck at Last Stand...
I can barely make it past wave 10 without resorting to tactics like running around until the enemy dies fro sleep deprivation or something.
-
Furthest I got to was Wave 16 as like... a level 5 space marine :V
-
Sorcerer is really meh for me.
I like doppleganging a Force Commander and having him survive long after I die. Too bad I can't control him.
-
I beat TLS when it was just the original 3. Really have no desire to play it again unless they either add a new wave setup or mixup the play somehow.
-
Bah, Slaanesh is left out once again.

Most likely will be the "extra units" when they add Dark Eldar to the game. Relic ran a poll and it was like 4 to 1 to add Slaanesh to the game.
Noise Marines would be hilarious and own.

If they ever got added in, it would be great if they were the classic Guitar Marines. Those dudes were rad as hell.

I finished the new campaign on Sergeant difficulty after being brutally murdered by Ulkair during my first attempt.
Why he has 975,800 health AND the ability to heal will forever be a mystery to me.
I got executed at the end due to my corruption and I'm starting another file on Primarch so I can get the 'good' ending.
