Hey fellas, a few days ago I found this little lovely game.
Touhou Rekkaden is a game that stars Hong Meiling as the main character. Its a 4 player fighting game similar to Gauntlet type games apparently. (I never played Gauntlet though)
The game has 16 players and everyone has their own moves and 3 spellcards and a nice couple of stages.
I completely love this friggin game and my roommates and I have been playing it lately, ever since last weekend when i acquired it.
On a projector screen no less :D
Anyway, anyone else play the game? My faves in this game so far are Remilia, Rumia, Flandre and uhh...Yukari.
Yukari is frigging hilarious XD
Lie is pretty great too even if she has horrible spirit regeneration for all her moves haha.
Its a great game so i was curious if anyone plays it too ^_^

Yeah, I beat it a long time ago. It's rather old. Still fun, though.

yeah i forgot to say that. It came out like 2005 or so i think. so its kinda old but i found it and its new to me and all hehe. Its really fun. I kinda wish there was a touhou smash bros now. This is really fun haha.

Played it a long time ago.
Patchouli and EX-Rumia are amazing. Flan and Alice are pretty good too.

For some reason I can never get more than 2 attacks and 1 spellcard to work for each character I play, and yes I know the buttons.

As long as one of those cards is Philosopher's Stone you can just pick Patchouli and spam the hell out of everything anyway. :V

Actually I forgot, I can't even use spellcards, just that "power up" ability that consumes a spellcard, where you do more damage and stuff I mean..
But even still that wouldn't be very fun if it's as effective as you suggest.
Seriously, nobody knows why it does this? I don't remember the buttons off hand, but I believe the 3rd attack was 'c', and pushing that always makes my character stomp the ground for no damage or anything (all the characters, like some kinda stomp/I can't cast that yet animation).

I played through it a while back. Movement can be a little slow from what I can remember, but fun stuff

God damnit Rekkaden. >: <
Issue may be wonky button set up, But usually spellcards should be the S button. Normally hitting it has one Spellcard, Hitting it in 'Renka mode' has another. Renka mode also has two different regular attacks. It should be A button.
Possibly not though, if you're having button issues, go into options, the second to last options, and set your own. It should be 'Attack 1', 'Attack 2', 'Special', 'Renka Mode', and 'Spell card. In that order.
Hitting both attacks activates a third power up card. Just powers you up. Specials do different things, but Meiling's is a block.
Any questions?

Basically what Chaore said. I'll just say for anyone else who doesn't know or something
You have 3 basic attacks: A,B, and C. A and B are the normal attacks and attack C is a defensive move, (dodge/blocking move) holding the dash button also puts you in Rekka mode. You basically have 4 normal attacks. A, B, Rekka A, and Rekka B (basically holding dash while pressing the button).
Then you have your spellcard button A, B, and C as well. Spell A is activated by pressing your spellcard button, Spell B is activated by being in Rekka mode so hold dash and then press Spell for B, and C you have to press both of your regular attack buttons to activate.
So yeah check your controls is all. And those are the methods in which you activate said attacks.
Also another topic. Red-Eyed Sakuya (the playable character version) ALWAYS lags my game to about 30fps to even 7-8 when she's using a spellcard of any kind. ;_; I don't get it I don't get any lag at all except for when she's doing something uber like that. It sucks completely. I've always had the fonts installed already and all that but still..

How are characters unlocked? I went through story mode, but no Flandre, or EX Rumia, or red-eyes Sakuya, or Yukari...

Ya have to beat extra.
Its pretty tough too. But the most fun out of the whole game imo haha.
Beating extra nets you Flandre, Yukari, Red-Eyed Sakuya, Rumia EX, Reisen and Alice along with Yukari's and Yuyuko's stages for vs. and team modes.
The extra battles are hard though
The first is Meiling vs. Red-Eyed Sakuya. Then a BR against Power-up Marisa and normal Patchy, then a team b attle with Meiling/Youmu, vs. Power-up Rumia and normal Cirno. That one is pretty tough thansk to that Rumia. the next is a BR with meiling vs, reimu vs yukari vs lie.
The FINAL battle is teh coup de grace and totally hard as hell. A 3vs1. Meiling vs Remilia, Flandre and Sakuya. GAAAAAAWD it was hard as all hell.

What Koji said. If you don't have Extra after a Lunatic No Deaths clear, then you've the wrong version, likely.
Also. Its not actually vs. Red Eyes, Its also the Power Up card Sakuya.
The last battle is painful. As was Vs. Power Up rumia, solely for how much crap she can throw out.
Worth it though.

yeah. right i forgot that wasn't red-eyed sakuya per sa. just a power-up sakuya. and yes that rumia can shit out so many bullets its not even funny and Meiling can't dodge like the other chars. she has to block. Its not hard really but DAM its intimidating when a crapload of bullets are heading your way and you can't evade in time haha.
Nowadays i play 3vs1 with the computer. and some handicaps. Its pretty hard doing so. i lose like 70% of the games haha.
