Title: Help Me, Direct3D! D=
Post by: Montblanc on February 10, 2010, 02:40:14 AM
So, I am not entirely sure what's wrong, exactly.

But I think I may have screwed up and accidentally uninstalled some important graphics file. I have run a check, and am now almost certain that Direct3D, which like, every Touhou game needs (save for PC-98) to play, is the file that is missing.

But I have looked high and low for a download of the file, and have found nothing, not on Windows' site, not anywhere else. It's all DirectX End-User stuff, which I already have the most current versions for.

Now, just to be sure if I'm really missing Direct3D, here is basically the issue:

The game (Th6 and up) starts just fine, but when I get to the Menu screen, all I see is the menu image while the BGM plays. I can hear my cursor move around if I press the arrow keys, but I can't see the options, or my selection. If I spam tap Z, I can hear the game start, BGM and all, and can even hear my player firing if I hold Z. But I still can't SEE anything.

Anyone have any idea of what I can do?

Please and thank you.

I don't know how you lose direct 3d but it's basically the graphics API of directX. Reinstalling directX should work. Another possability is that directX 11 ( or whatever the new one is for vista) is no longer backwards compatible with certain old programs , try downgrading too.

Run dxwebsetup again and let it redownload.  If that doesn't work reinstall your graphics drivers.

Uhh no.

Okay, so I tried uninstalling my graphics drivers, reinstalling them, reinstalling DirectX, and still nothing is working for me. ._.

Did you try reinstalling DirectX using the installer that comes with the games?

Also, can you find out what specific file it is the games are looking for?

...I don't have any DirectX installation in my game folder.

Anyway, did you figure out which file it is?

And I do think it's probably Direct3D. Either that or my Graphics Card is outdated and I can't find the right drivers.

What did you do to "uninstall" whatever it was that you uninstalled?  Also, I'm pretty sure DirectX's files are protected by Windows, you can't just delete them.

As for the graphics card, make sure it's not overheating.  Check if it's heatsink isn't clogged with dust and whatnot.

Also, you still haven't said which file it was.  XD

Well, when I first got this thing, the games worked fine. But I got it second hand, and the previous owner had left a lot of things on here. So I went and started uninstalling files, and I figure I may have accidentally removed something vital, because afterward, I couldn't see the games anymore when they started up. ._.

So I'm really not certain what file it is that is missing. I just know it's either directly tied to Direct3D, or it's some obscure Graphics Driver (which seems unlikely, due to my having updated my drivers to the most recent releases).

Ahaa, I see now.  What type of machine is it (brand, model, laptop/desktop)?  I assume you got the videocard driver off the website of the company that built the computer.

If I had my game disks I'd upload the DirectX installer for you to download.

Well, it's the thought that counts, thanks. ^^

Anyhow, it's a Dell Inspiron 4100, laptop.
