Title: Bug Report Thread
Post by: Seventh Holy Scripture on April 21, 2009, 07:51:47 am
As the forums have been upgraded to 2.0.1, all previous reports are assumed stale and fixed.

If reporting issues about the text box when making/editing a post stretching too far and cutting off, please clear your cache and cookies.  You most likely have a stale copy of the forum template.

If reporting issues about the themes, please provide screenshots as well as detailed information on the browser name and version you're using, as well as anything done to trigger the broken behavior.

If reporting issues about search please be aware that it is still in testing.  Missing topics is a normal thing, posts are indexed at regular intervals and sometimes brand new posts aren't in the index yet.  If it's acting slow please wait a few minutes before trying again, you may have hit it during an indexing period.

Can I be a twat and report the first bug in SMF update? :3

The editing shortcuts(ctrl+i, ctrl+u, ctrl+b, etc) that used to overlap the browser shortcuts aren't working anymore.
I know it's like a secondary feature, but I use it a lot, and I just hit ctrl+u in another thread and boom, source code window opened on my face

Dunno what to tell you, probably removed for the time being.  I've changed nothing as far as the post template/JS goes.

Something might be wrong with the avatar upload. Specifically, it refuses an image that is no larger than 150x150px or 75kB. Resizing it to 140x140 and smaller filesize (<30kB) does not help.
Error given is "The avatar you have selected is either too large or not an avatar." The image (http://sadpanda.us/images/681363-L6W88RL.jpg) is 150x150 and 44,1kB, jpg.
Strange enough, re-uploading my previous avatar (http://sadpanda.us/images/681365-W6XH7DB.jpg) does work (150x140, 7,1kB, jpg). As does uploading a png version of the new one.
Re-saving the png version as jpg and uploading that, on the other hand, also fails.

Can't check until I get home :<  AFAIK the only option I changed was relaxing the checks for malicious images. The attachment code is so wonky.

Avatars should be fixed.  Apparently disabling the reencode dangerous images is a BAD thing because then it'll just flat out reject them instead of reencoding them as before.

Ignore boards function appears to be fucked. Specifically, selecting one or multiple boards to be ignored will set all boards to ignored (or at least all boards are marked on subsequent visits to the ignore boards page). If every single board is again unmarked and the settings saved, all the boards will again be shown as not ignored. Otherwise, all of them will stay marked.
Tried this using Firefox and Internet Explorer, same result with both. Didn't have any of the boards marked as ignored before the update, tried to mark some just now.

Also thank you for fixing the avatar issue.

Question: The search will (as far as I can tell) always only display one post from each thread, even if "show results as messages" is checked. Is this intended to be so?

Post by: helvetica on October 09, 2011, 04:18:56 am
I'll have to play with it, that sounds like a bizarre bug.

As for search I just noticed that behavior and I think that may be an issue with the query I'm passing to Sphinx.  I'll see if I can find a way to make it pull multiple hits per topic.

They appear visibly, unless you mouseover, at which point they disappear.

On further research, that issue is an issue I noticed for a very long time on the admin panel when doing permission changes.  SMF doesn't actually go through and mark the checkboxes properly showing the current settings you have.  It's saved properly if you do it of course.  I've been trying to track down an alternate way to do it but it was a low priority issue because well, I'm the only one that fucks with permissions on a regular basis lol.  Guess the bug affects all "checkbox" style controls.

Sounds like a hilarious bug. I've had something like that happen to me a few times, too. Assuming you haven't made any special modifications to your SMF installation that might have brought this about, I guess I'll get myself the current SMF version and take a look at this.

I'm not in a position to edit the actual HTML generated to add the <link rel> statement to the spat out page at this time.  I was looking for an easier way to embed it instead of adding it to every single forum theme we have.

I have a custom patchset but AFAIK it shouldn't affect anything dealing with that code.

Umm... I think this is a bug (maybe). I went to the memberlist thing and found that clicking on the row of letters near the top, which presumably should take you to to the members who's names start with that letter, instead takes you to a page severel pages ahead. Also names that don't start with a capital letter are entirely seperate from the rest.  As an example, clicking "S" took me about halfway through the list, to the names that start with capital "Z".  I was trying to find myself in there... and I encountered difficulties.
Maybe it takes you to the page that would be correct if the lower case letters weren't seperate? idk

Sorting is case sensitive in PostgreSQL.  There is no "simple" solution because it simply does not behave the same way MySQL does (sorting is case insensitive).  Searching for your nick works fine.

I'm reporting two issues.

1. Old issue I've had for a while - The new line character doesn't seem to appear properly in IE9. When I type a line, hit enter twice, and type another line in a post, I should see an empty line between the two lines after I post. However, the empty line will not appear in the final post, it seems like IE9 ignores one of the newline characters. This is an issue for me when I view any post by any member, and for formatting reasons it would be very convenient to be able to see the extra space between lines (for example, they make paragraph breaks a lot easier to read).

2. New issue - I cannot get onto IRC tonight. I'm not sure if this is the proper place to report it, and I'm not sure if it's an issue that only I'm having tonight or if it's everyone.

EDIT: The second issue resolved itself.

EDIT 2: I made a mistake about the browser - I use Windows 7, but the browser is IE 9. I apologize for the confusion, and have editted the report accordingly.

Internet Explorer 9 works perfectly for me. Chrome screws everything up. Firefox is usually fine, but sometimes text appears weird. I find IE is faster and simpler than those others.

Uhh I've been on Chrome dev channel for over a year and a half now and I've never had any issues.  And it's what I test my designs against.

I admit it's probably an IE9 issue I'm having, because Firefox displays space between lines perfectly. I don't know why different people's IE9 would show the site differently.

Quick question to TSO, just to make sure it's not something else, ya fiddling around with the server, right?
I'm getting 403s and timeouts every now and then since yesterday or something. Just to be sure

Hm, kay. The 403s happened today only, hour and a half ago or something, got me locked in the café without anything else MotK opening.
Only lasted a minute or two. And a timeout here and there. Just some additional info

Yeah, I'm was getting 403's on TARC and LJ, at least. Just the main links to the boards though - links to threads within those boards work fine.

edit: Seems to be fine now though.

Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: helvetica on May 12, 2012, 06:13:03 pm
Partially.

The webchat script was moved to henrietta and it's rather tempermental.  I didn't want to run it as root (ports under 1024 you have to have root, and port 80 is http), so I tried to setup a proxy with Squid to share the same port between the normal webserver for the forum and the webchat script.  Squid is just something I'm unfamiliar with.  It worked but 10% of the time Squid would go "lol I dunno" and throw a 403 saying it couldn't access whatever.  So I reconfigured it a different way, by using a module in our webserver to redirect traffic to the webchat script if you went to webchat.ppirc.net.

Issue 1: I'm still getting 403 errors.

Issue 2: The search function doesn't seem to be working. No matter what I run a search for, it doesn't seem to find anything; the search results page doesn't list any hits.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread

Search isn't working because I forgot to restart the search daemon, it should be working now.  As for 403s I need to know exactly where and when you were getting them so I can try to track them down.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: GuyYouMetOnline on June 01, 2012, 04:14:30 am
Doesn't seem to be any real pattern to them. The boards I visit most are RPG, PSL, and HME, and that's where I've been seeing them, but that's only because I almost never visit other boards, so there's no guarantee it's limited to those three. Within those boards, I've had it hapen when refreshing a page, clicking on a topic, or clicking on the link from a topic back to the board.

What code was used to do this, i would love to know.
If i could get it to that in Developer Tools, that would make browsing these forums even more fun!

I upload an image that is on the small side (about 200 x 350) the thumbnail came out the same size but all blurry.  Clicking it makes it smaller and not blurry as it should look.

EXAMPLE THE SECOND
(http://i.imgur.com/UXjAr.png)
Both images were the same size (1000 x 667) just different orientations, but one came out much larger and blurrier looking for whatever moon reason I cannot fathom.

I don't think I hit any sort of size limit, and there's no way I did on the first picture. Maybe the forums just hate me I dunno  :ohdear:

Okay, it's not that much of a problem but it is somewhat irritating. Whenever I check my replies before I view all of them I have to refresh the page multiple times to see all the replies. Why is that?

Disk was full again, much like the error message said. I'm not sure why other than PostgreSQL appears to have become a gargantuan beast that consumes disk space as readily as if it were the souls of innocents (this may be expected behavior.)

Nothing looked disposable so I deleted hatonline.  :colonveeplusalpha:

Bug report: Checking updated threads via 'replies' button does not remove the 'new' in the Notifications page or in the Forum proper.
Severity: Minor
Bug Description: When you check a thread that you have replied in, the 'new' image should be removed from all other sources. However, by checking notifications/the actual forum, the 'new' images are still there even though you have seen the updated content of that thread.

So I was playing around with the goodies in the Modify Profile dropdown menu. I went to the Ignore Boards Options. All boards and subs were unchecked. I checked off RPG (sorry guys) and then clicked Change Profile. Bam: all the boards and subs are now checked. So I unchecked RPG, clicked Change Profile again, same result.

I realize this probably isn't high priority but I thought I'd bring it to your attention in case it's related to other issues you've been having.

I think that there is a tiny, tiny clever commander bug when copying links directly into the post without use the "url" tags. It can't get the last parenthesis from a link ending with parenthesis, so it links a broken link and it lets the last parenthesis as a normal text:

http://dmf.shrinemaiden.org/wiki/Enemy_Script_Functions_(0.12m) << broken link because it is ignoring the last character
OK link using "URL" tag (http://dmf.shrinemaiden.org/wiki/Enemy_Script_Functions_(0.12m))

That's a bug within the parser and I think like every forum software ever has this or a similar kind of problem parsing links with parentheses in them. It's not exactly an easy thing to fix :(

Can't you say to the parser stop at the first empty character that it finds?

Is it just me or has site searched stopped functioning recently (like, within the last day or two)? It doesn't appear to find anything for any query, even when they are words that are quite obviously in the text of the thread being searched.

I'm not sure if it's an IE thing or a website thing or what, but the longer it takes me to type a response and the longer my posts get, the more time it takes for the reply box to notice the words I type. It seems to refresh slower or gain lag the longer it's open, and it actually becomes a bit difficult to load other sites from this site (The site takes a long time to... I want to say unload). When I close the site tab though, the other sites all load at normal speed again. It seems like the post reply page lags the longer it's open, and it definitely lags quite a bit when I try to make long posts in Rumia's party games after, say, half an hour of editing. This is a fairly recent issue too, I don't believe I was having this problem as recently as a month ago.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread

That sounds completely on your end. The forums use very little client-side scripting so really only resources in use are those to actually display the page. Only things we use Javascript for are for the dropdown menus and for Google Analytics.

The "Replies" tab is kinda wonky. It can show two threads that were posted in today, then I view one, click it again, and see three more with posts from 2 or 3 days ago it didn't show the first time.

It seems that the browser detection has a minor bug. Making a post using Chrome on an iPhone (such as this one (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,15428.msg1016592.html#msg1016592) I just posted a few hours ago) is incorrectly detected as Safari 1.0 on Mac OS X.

Not sure if this also applies to any other mobile browsers.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: helvetica on September 05, 2013, 05:14:32 am
Most mobile browsers report themselves as such to trigger iPhone compliant pages. Detection is based purely on the browser string reported so there's not much I can do about that.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: Karisa on September 05, 2013, 05:53:38 am
Aren't there still differences? At least, this is what I'm currently getting:
Quote from: iPhone Safari
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_4 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536/26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B350 Safari/8536.25
Quote from: iPhone Chrome
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_4 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536/26 (KHTML, like Gecko) CriOS/28.0.1500.16 Mobile/10B350 Safari/8536.25
Chrome seems to replace the Safari version number with "CriOS" followed by the Chrome version number. It's subtle, but I don't think it's any less subtle than the differences in browser strings normally are, given how they've been imitating each other for so long. (The non-mobile Safari and Chrome also have nearly identical strings except for that one part.)

They also both identify themselves as an iPhone, while Mac OS X Safari (correctly identified as Mac OS X 10.8.4 - Safari 6.0.5 on this site) does not:
Quote from: Mac OS X Safari
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_8_4) AppleWebKit/536.30.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0.5 Safari/536.30.1

I don't have access to an Android phone to test their browsers, but I'd expect some similar differences.

I didn't implement most of the User Agent plugin and it's mostly for vanity. I'll look into it I guess but it's been out of date for a while now. I doubt Chrome for iPhone was even out when it was originally developed.

This can be solved easily by either going 'Don't use mobile site, then click the top link' or navigating to shrinemaiden.org/forum manually, but i'm guessing a link to the forums was still intended on the mobile main page?

Addendum to the above:

Several others have been zlined.  Furthermore, according to the zline message, you are using this site (http://ahbl.org/ ) for your ban list, and, well, please note the following from the top post:

Quote
As promised, on Jan 1st, 2015, i'll be wildcarding all zones no longer in operation - this includes rhsbl.ahbl.org, dnsbl.ahbl.org, and ircbl.ahbl.org.  This means that these services will return positive responses for any queries.

The query load is still high enough that I can not justify allocating the resources necessary to support queries from people who refuse to properly maintain their mail servers.

If you are still using these services, this may cause you to incorrectly tag e-mail as spam, or create other unintended consequences.  Fix and maintain your servers, now.

I think the server or program or something needs to be updated.

EDIT: Looks like it's working again.  Thanks!

This problem's been happening for as long as I remember. In mobile view, bold text shows the way it's supposed to show up as, but italic text doesn't show as italicized, although it does in print view. Can anyone with a smartphone tell me if the text below matches its description? If so, what phone (and browser) are you using?

Regular
Bold
Italic
Bold and italic

For the record, I'm using an HTC one with the default browser, which is based on WebKit 534.3

EDIT: When I look at the source code for the regular view and the print view of this page, it seems that the
Code: [Select]
<em> tag appears around the italicized text in both cases. Only print view shows correctly rendered text. This should rule out browser incompatibility.

It isn't just wide posts and neither occurs every time, mostly with the code tags and other markup. Only if you set a specific width it seems to have trouble breaking down the sentences + code block to restructure the post. If you make it more smaller / larger it will then snap to correct display.

My post (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,16584.msg1170329.html#msg1170329) in RikaNitori has similar behaviour and also utilizes the code tags.

I'm having some oddities with the "tt" tag.

For example, if you this:
Code: [Select]
[tt][+][/tt]
It turns into this mess:
Quote
  • [/tt]
Doing
Code: [Select]
[tt][b][/tt] does this:
Quote

Even worse, I had to put those in quote tags so that it doesn't ruin the rest of the post:

What did you expect? You've messed with the tag structure and then wonder why your post is wrecked.
A quick test shows that, unlike [code], [tt] does not disable other tags inside, and
so it's actually no wonder that SFM tells you to go do things to yourself.

P.S. This season's ugly hack:
Code: [Select]
[[b][/b]b]

Those tags actually correspond to specific div styles so if you don't close them properly it does stupid crap. Use [nobbc] if you have to nest tags and don't want them to be processed.

Wordfilters can break links by replacing words inside of the URL. Example: Tengukami's post here (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,18586.msg1193815.html#msg1193815).

The overlapping of the two images (the circular dot that looks like the Offline symbol and the green rectangle that's the Online? symbol) is what looked weird to me.

Small style bug that popped up when you remade the main stylesheet. Using table display, hidden overflows, and pre/code tags that stretch to fit content creates code blocks that can stretch off the page and become unreadable, as well as dragging the rest of the post with it since regular text just wraps normally. Example here (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,16584.msg1207477.html#msg1207477).

Solution is just to add table-layout: fixed; to .post_wrapper and overflow: auto; to code. I think this is the least intrusive option, I don't notice any side-effects.

The next day, I found that the thread itself vanished from TARC but when I looked it up in the forum search, it was still there. When I try to search for it now, it's gone.

For everyone that can't access the site on Firefox:

Firefox has a super annoying OCSP check that is blocking it, and I can't do anything about that since that's all backend with the certificate authority. Disable OCSP for now I guess, it'll resolve itself on its own.

I... don't think I should have the magical ability to edit other people's posts; 'unapprove' them, make stickies and lock/move threads.

I seem to only have this within the Cafe, and not it's subforums [EDIT; wasn't in PM: I have the powers within Moronic Colosseum as well; but not Lettyjournal]. I need to check if I have any sort of powers in forums I do not usually go in. I also still have magical avatar powers so it *might* be linked to my Birthday powers but my Birthday was on the 16th; and I didn't notice this until like the 20th so I don't think it's my Birthday stuff. And I severely doubt I've actually been made a mod without being told or anything. Or made a mod at all for that matter.

===
Also I just noticed a 'Moderate' tab show up in my topbar.

Edit: Can confirm, this is limited to only the Cafe and Moronic Colosseum. Lettyjournal is unaffected and all other forums have the normal options and tabs for me.

The member search has been broken since the dawn of time. I can't remember it ever working.

Title: Re: Bug Report Thread

It's a tradeoff.

Captcha wasn't "fixed", we disabled recaptcha in place of captcha, which has been cracked by spambots for years.  I've been deleting a number of new spammers daily for a while myself, it's just something we gotta do until we can get a better system in place - the alternative is no one being able to register new acccounts at all. :<

Yeah, I am totally fine with seeing Kim Kardashian sex tape posts in the Unapproved queue, as opposed to no one being able to sign up at all.

Personally, I think the current bare minimum of posts needed for approval before you can post with impunity is a fine solution. It's a negligible bar to clear for actual users, and has so far prevented spammers from being able to clog up the boards. Win/win, really.

It's possible that you simply didn't have enough posts at the time. Try again now. And read the rules, if you haven't already. (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/board,20.0.html)

I already did when I signed up about a year ago. Been corresponding with others through PM relatively often, but today when I tried to send a new PM, I got the error message. Was working fine yesterday.

Oh that's a bug I guess. You have enough posts to send PMs but not enough to send without verification (which I had forgotten to remove when we made PMs completely blocked for people under 3 approved posts). I'll remove the verification on PMs.

Apparently there's a user who is getting an error message every time he tries to post in any section on the forum. He can't send any PMs, either.
The user in question (Dioxaz). (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=35240)
His post on the Touhou subreddit detailing the issue. (https://www.reddit.com/r/touhou/comments/4925ol/bam_i_cant_post_on_motk_again/)
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: helvetica on March 05, 2016, 09:30:19 pm
I confirmed the captcha issue, and verified I fixed it this time. I've also gone ahead and lowered the threshold for verification/moderation from 3 posts to 1. The intention of the verification/captcha check was never to be a test of will to see if you're patient enough to stick around, just a way to stop spam, as we've historically have had large issues with it. Bots would slam the registration page until they finally pass it and then they'd just spam, at least with first post moderation we can remove spam posts and spambots before their posts are even visible. If we've approved your first post, the likelihood of you being a bot is extremely low (and if you are that's a LOT of work just to spam a Touhou forum), so I went ahead and lowered it to 1.

This includes PM rights as well, after your first post you should not have to perform any captchas or clear post moderation before you can PM or post. If you're still getting captcha'ed and you have at least 1 post let me know and I'll work on it. I've verified on my test account with 2 posts I can post/pm.

Sorry about that and thanks for reporting the issue to me!
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: Dioxaz on March 05, 2016, 09:54:11 pm
Thank you very much for your reactivity and thanks to people helping me reporting the issue, wherever you came from.
So I wasn't becoming senile after all. I sincerely hope bots cannot be smart enough to exceed the first post.

In fact, in cases like this one, possibilities of contacting a staff member are extremely low, which can be upsetting. I hope such issues will be as rare as possible and you'd not be forced tu use more drastic solutions. I admit that bots became a real burden over the years, leading us to situations like that.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread
Post by: helvetica on March 05, 2016, 10:03:35 pm
No I understand and it's why I try to be proactive as I can to not cause these kinds of situations to occur, but I admit I should have tested more thoroughly instead of just assuming the lack of complaints meant I fixed it.

I'm the only one handling actual admin work here and it's not my fault the recaptcha plugin breaks every 2 minutes :\ I was notified of it by Edible and I would have worked on it ASAP if I didn't literally have finals this week. Every time I fix it recaptcha changes something and it breaks the plugin and I have to update it and there's not much else I can do :[. Even if I wrote my own one it'd likely break just as often.

Verification is indeed used to block spam posts, which we get regular. Pretty sure capcha/approval goes away after like your 5the post, tops (maybe even your 3rd) so don't get upset - maybe ask questions instead of assuming the worst?

This is strictly for spam control, and for this exact reason you're stating Forza has mod rights to that forum to see unapproved posts. We understand it's really annoying first post moderation exists but we've had lots of issues with spam, and we've done everything we can to mitigate the impact on legitimate users. He can definitely see your post regardless.

So recaptcha decided to do something new and dumb and I'll have to rewrite everything again. In the meantime I've removed it and replaced it with a verification question, plus we've always required manual approval on first post so it's not that big of a deal for the time being.

You're definitely not the only one. A few of us were talking about it in IRC. Although it seems it happened to some people but not to others. I even had difficulty signing in today until like half an hour ago.
Same here.
I believe the admins can see our IPs, so you might be able to find a correlation.

For some reason, attachments in this thread (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,20776.msg1357678.html#msg1357678) aren't appearing on recent posts.

I tested making a new post with attachments in other threads (including in the same forum), as well as another post in the same thread; seems to be something wrong with this particular thread. Also, attachments are appearing on some older posts in the same thread, but not others.

Edit: I tried attaching a replay to the first post of the thread; it did appear. Seems to be a problem only on recent posts in this thread? I don't get it.

I've had reports from several people now complaining that any action they attempt on MotK (sometimes even just logging in/out) is met with ambiguous database error. This doesn't seem to be affecting most people, but I've heard three different people saying the same thing so something is probably up. One seemed to fix the issue by clearing the cache for shrinemaiden.org; dunno if that would work in general.

Been getting this for a while now. Started happening around right after the certificate thing was fixed. It takes several minutes to access one page of MotK, and going to another does the same thing. Once I am able to eventually log in, it usually disappears for the most part until I log out, then it messes up again with the same messages. I get these two.

This is the one I get constantly. Can take a few minutes of spamming F5 to get a page to load.

I get this one sometimes while logging in. It says to log out and try again, but the thing is, I'm not logged in at all when this happens. Just gotta put in my username and password several times before it eventually lets me in.

I've been having the same database error, especially on Chrome. This got in the way of posting on Forza's thread, as I was trying to off and on for a while and didn't think of trying Firefox for about a week. I was able to read the backlog and post a reply on it right before posting this, but I had to refresh one of the pages a few times to get it to not give the error. I'm not going to bother posting a screenshot, as one's already been posted that looks identical to mine.

Every time I ask people talking about the problem nobody gives any useful information and eventually they either give up or spam reloads until they can access the account creation page. At least for some people registering and being logged in is enough to stop the issue but again nobody gives useful information so I can't really say if that's universal.

Undoubtedly a lot of truth to this, but honestly I avoided that board in the months leading up to those changes because it had turn into a spawning point for drama tornadoes, egos, and was the playground of one now-former mod who thought his own abusive behavior was hilarious.

I mean it's not like we decided CPMC was just too much fun so let's ruin it or something.

Note; NO Third Party Antivirus and/or Web Inspector/Filter " Blacklistig or Prompting",even if not recently updated .NOTE : if  messages or warnings are unsupported/disabled   on Browsers such as "Photon" (IPad and the similar counterparts  Iphone and Mac OSX) all MotK  Pages except the Cached Ones are "Blanks Endlessly Loading (  Stuck in an Unresponsive Domain Loop without Timeout  ".

Well yeah, I never said CPMC was great. It was a shit posting forum based on FYAD so it was destined to turn out the way it did, especially since it clashed so heavily with the culture of the rest of the forum (much like FYAD).

To the 3rd of March,Saturday,2018, please forgive me  for re- stating the obvious about the Expired Certificate:" Connection/Site is Unsafe/Unsecure" , but it is an improvement we are no longer experiencing past issues(Thankfully we are still experiencing Past(?) Tales,Atmosphere,Nice People :) )about "Prompt to Hard-Block either on-Browser or Off-Browser" or "Warning - Counterfeit Site" or "Warning - Certificate Expired" which in some instances "Reset the Exception Rule". To Note : if  messages or warnings are unsupported/unable  to be loaded then there is at least a Tested Browser("Photon" on IPad) that " Keeps on Loading a Blank Page while Trying to Connect".

W-what was that?
I don't think I've ever seen as half-understandable of a word salad before.

Sorry for the downtime. I got a very fun email that Triela was being rude and harassing other poor server hosts as part of a DoS. Turns out, despite firewalling off the ports on memcached from day one, our server was briefly hijacked and proceeded to spew about 2TB of data out in the course of 10 hours today.

I've resecured the box and have immediately depreciated a few things. While it doesn't look like they actually got any significant access, the nature of the attack at least means they managed to have some sort of arbitrary code access through the web server process. They did not, however, seem to get anywhere past that.

I have immediately removed the long derelict frontpage, and the IRC web client is down for the time being pending redesign. I've also forcibly upgraded all of the MediaWiki instances (DMF, Help Me!). The conwiki I have not made any changes to, but if I see any suspect access I will be forced to migrate it to another platform, as it looks like MoinMoin is very dead :\

If there's any problems, please let me know. :3c

I'm not quite convinced they even got that far actually. All the traffic came out over IPv6, if they had access why not both? While I did have proper firewall rules in place supposedly to block outside access to TCP/UDP 11211, I'm wondering if there was a flaw that allowed the attacker to bypass it.

At first I just assumed they had to have some sort of local shell to do what they did given the firewall rules, but there's been no evidence to support any sort of access was gained. It doesn't  add up. I've locked down possible avenues as a precaution, and I'll be heavily auditing access and traffic for the next few days regardless.

Oof. Unsecured and hijacked memcached servers have been producing huge DDoSes for at least a week now (https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/03/us-service-provider-survives-the-biggest-recorded-ddos-in-history/), but a hijacked memcached server that was already firewalled is definitely a bigger concern.

Nice to see the home page redirect to the forum now.

Edit: Changed password just in case. Password managers make password changes trivial anyway.
Title: Re: Bug Report Thread

Yeah I moved the php backend to memcached like... yeeeeears ago. I knew having a completely unsecured service with no authentication exposed to the internet was just asking for trouble. I might be a dummy but I'm pretty thorough when it comes to security xP

I've had firewall rules blocking all inbound traffic to TCP/UDP 11211 except from lo but I guess they managed to bypass that? It's either that, or they got a shell, did nothing except make local calls to the memcached service, but only to attack out on IPv6? Without leaving any evidence or backdoor or anything phoning home? That doesn't make any sense.

So uh, the being logged out problem is back. The very generic message that says "Database Error" "Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator." Same way as last time. Sometimes logging in can be difficult and navigating forums while not logged in makes it show up too.

Problem 1:
IPv6 is broken on SMF, found this out a long time ago. Ended up just disabling IPv6 on lighttpd at the time.
When server was reconfigured for nginx in front of lighttpd, IPv6 was reenabled (why did I do this?), although it wasn't actually working due to bad firewall rules.
Didn't realize this and ended up fixing IPv6 access for an unrelated project. IPv6 bug back.
Dropped AAAA record for www.shrinemaiden.org. People still connecting over IPv6. Disabled IPv6 listener on nginx for shrinemaiden.org entirely.

Problem 2:
SMF 2.0 is not compatible with PHP 7.2. Had put in an override to roll back to 7.1 last time this happened.
Override was helpfully overridden by Debian and PHP went back to 7.2. More unfun times.
Did not realize this until I checked the PHP version on a hunch.
Manually reconfigured lighttpd to launch PHP 7.1 instead of the system default PHP.

Problem 3:
Constantly running out of space, database was kinda bloated and wasn't sure why. Cleaned up some stuff but was still pretty tight on space.
Checked the event logs after fixing problem 2 and found this
[attach=2]
Cleared error log. Recovered 20GB of space (LOL)

Emails to microsoft email accounts (hotmail.com/live.com etc.) seem to be going to be getting eaten by it's spam filtering. Not just going to junk but actually not reaching email accounts. I've just tried to register with mine and no amount of resending of activation emails is getting through - not in their webmail or via thunderbird. I've had to resort to using one of those temporary email addresses and re-registering in a private window to be able to post this.

IIRC from conversations with an sysadmin ex-colleague, microsoft do "shenanigans"™ with their spam filtering that results in this and he seemed to have to jump through a fair few hoops to get off whatever list we were on.

Bug report even though there appears to be no one around to fix bugs, just in case. (I wonder who fixed the certificate?)

For some reason, searching the site for "twitter", then trying to view a results page other than page 1, failed to load. Even stranger, when I ran the search several times, even the first page for "twitter" started failing to load. Changing the case (e.g. "TWITTER") or adding spaces (e.g. "Twitter ") did not affect this.

Edit: Seems to occur for any search term with over 1000 results, or at least with over 34 pages (since the page count stops at 34). Try it with any Touhou major character like "Reimu" or "Marisa".

It seems to have something to do with images indeed. I have posted a one-liner with none of them in the LP thread, so it's not the thread that's broken.

Edit: Like you said, I've experimented with my signature and after removing and reinstating it, the editing of my profile is producing the same error. I'm kind of without a signature right now because of this  :ohdear: what format did you use to circumvent the problem and still make your image visible as it's supposed to be?

Title: Re: Bug Report Thread

The fix for the IMG tag is here!
When I first heard about it, I immediately realized whats wrong, normally BBCode directly converts to HTML, as is with [ b ], [ i ], and [ s ] tags, however the image tag is special in that it needs metadata in order to function properly, specifically the image width and height so the forum knows if it needs to resize a high definition image to fit a post.  That script has to load the image file, switch on one of the many different formats depending on the header than read the bytes that describe the image's width and height.  This image file decoder is what has stopped functioning, so the workaround is to manually specify the image's metadata as follows:

Code:
Code: [Select]
[img width=48 height=48]http://lunarcast.net/img/mystictk/CDGDef.png[/img]
Which yields the result:

Do make sure to replace the width, height and URL with your image please

As long as the affected threads have more than one page, they can still be viewed and interacted with by going to a previous page and pressing Reply. Must be something in Fulisha's signature or avatar, then. Perhaps a moderator could clear it, thus restoring Fulisha's access to their own profile.

I only have partial profile editing privileges, but Fulisha's entire profile (every edit tab, not just the "Forum Profile" one; I was manually substituting user id 32096) gives the 500 error. Even their stats page. I don't understand why, if it's their signature that's broken.

I've managed to delete Fulisha's post from this thread since it's such an important thread right now. Their post was quoted by glide, so it's still here.

Not sure if it's related to this, but when I tried changing text in my signature just now, I also got 500 errors. Seeing this thread, I figured I could try removing the picture I had in my signature, even though it was being properly displayed under my posts. For some reason, that actually helped, trying to input the picture again, however, yielded 500 errors again.

Edit: The post at the top of the page contained the solution. It started working again once I specified width and height within the img tag. Interesting that it had no issues displaying it even with the old (http://) layout, but would yield errors as soon as I attempted to change it.

Considering helvetica hasn't been to the site at all in months, and she's apparently the only one who can make fundamental changes to the site (this is why no one could fix Fulisha's profile), this isn't due to a deliberate change on the site's end.

I have no idea what might have caused it, though.

I'm sorry for posting again knowing it's gonna trigger another 500 error (feel free to delete this post, I just wanted to let you know I read yours and others' posts), but yeah I do think it has to do with an image in my signature probably not following the new IMG tag someone mentioned, that's the only thing I can think of that's triggering it (I don't remember if I changed my avatar either, I think I did?) I had no idea the image format changed (I actually wanted to edit my art thread (that I bet is also broken) and that's how I noticed the error, I also noticed it after I posted in RaNGE recently)

I'm like completely locked out of fixing this myself though, I literally can't view or edit any of my own posts, or anything relating to my profile. I can't even view or send messages.
I can view forums and posts that don't have a post of mine, and log in/out and change my password, but everything else...  I'm a walking 500 error plague at this point  :( :ohdear:

If anything, the image I had in my signature came from Imgur (it's actually a small one), but I don't know if deleting it from my Imgur will fix anything either. And I'd rather not make a new account to get around this.
