Title: Phantasmagoria of FLOWER VIEW(not dim.dream:P)
Post by: MaronaPossessed on January 03, 2010, 03:02:37 AM
Hi. I've been trying to unlock Lunasa and Merlin. I did all of story mode and all of extra mode(that means completing all chars on each. CLEARED). I found out that Lunasa and Merlin already appeared in Match Mode.

So my question is, is only Lunasa and Merlin available for Match Mode only and no Story Mode/Extra Mode?

That is correct. Lunasa and Merlin cannot be used in story mode, only Match Mode.

While we have this thread, might as well turn it into a PoFV discussion thread.

So, who do you guys think is best for scoring in the game? In my experience Reisen has been great for scoring (not so much with survival though), and Cirno's been the least successful for scoring :(

Cirno's not completely terrible for scoring IIRC... I think Youmu or Lyrica would be worse. or so I guess, I haven't thought much about it

Sikieiki is god tier for scoring, as long as you don't mind snowfests.

Okay...damn I wish Lunasa and Merlin get their story mode...Lyrica hogs everything like always.

My favorite character for using? Hm I say Reisen after all the others I play. To be honest in Touhou, I don't have a favorite character but it's the stories and relationshippings that get me interested :D

I'm probably doing it wrong (again) :V

Youmu seems almost like she's designed to be terrible for score. Since her survival requires you to play so defensively, your scoring chances are pretty much nonexistent.

Well, the difference a character makes in scoring is directly related to how many bullets are available to be reflected to you (the more bullets you clear on your screen, the better your score).
Cirno has four advantages in this regard.
1) Her Lv. 2 spawns entirely from one point and spreads outward.  Later in the match, there's a better chance that there will be an enemy of some kind right where at that spawning point, and every reflectable bullet will come your way.  Yuka, Reisen, Reimu, Tewi, Komachi, Mystia, and to a lesser extent Medicine have similar Lv. 2s - with varying effectiveness.  Since Cirno's bullets stop onscreen during her Lv. 2, they're more likely to get hit sometime.
2) The snowflake she shoots before the wall of icicles falls during her boss attack works the same way.
3) When using one of her Perfect Freeze spells, some of the indestructible bullets on your screen turn to snow bullets that you can wipe away.
4) Her reflected bullets are mostly slow.

The downside to Cirno is that her scope isn't good for scoring and her icicles are a little too good for keeping foes alive while she racks up points (not referring to Extra Mode here).

I'd say that when she freezes the bullets on your screen, the bullets that remain on the screen change their direction, so, bullets that were otherwise going away from the screen will add to the amount of bullets that can be bombed/chained. Frozen bullets will become slow, allowing you to manage more bullets on your screen.
Plus, Cirno fights Aya (while Reisen fights Medicine). Aya's attacks are fast, but manageable (bait-able, and bomb-able if you can anticipate them and charge), the bullets on Medicine's stage are many, but most of them are slow (one notable exception being Medicine's boss summon). It seems that it's less difficult to score well on these two stages.
