Title: Touhou M-1 Grand Prix Translation Project
Post by: Furienify on December 31, 2009, 12:03:58 AM
Hi! Frequent browser, first-time poster. Happy New Years, as well. I haven't seen a thread like this before so please don't shoot me if I've done something wrong.  :'(

Most of you have probably seen the Touhou M-1 Grand Prix comedies cropping up on Youtube (I'll refrain from 'manzais' since I don't know if that's appropriate grammar), likely done by dgreater1 (http://"http://www.youtube.com/user/dgreater1"). He covered most of the 1st and 2nd edition but was unable to complete them for whatever reason. If you've heard 'CHEEEEEN!' chances are you've seen one of the comedies and know what I'm talking about.  :V

Some friends and I have been bored over winter break, so we're working on the 3rd Grand Prix. What we've done so far is on my channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Furienify). It's a pretty informal process. I work from Spanish subs if available, Silferras translates the Convulsion&ACT-SUB Chinese script, and then Shiri corrects our synthesized version from his own knowledge of spoken Japanese. Time consuming, but it works, and the comedies are hilarious so it's worth it.

Aside from plugging our work all over the place, I posted this to give people a head's up that the 4th Grand Prix is out and you can find the raw video pieces over at  Murasa's Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/MurasaMinamitu). In fact, if you want a list with links to -every- Manzai available, I made a page over at the Touhou Wiki (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Touhou_M-1_Grand_Prix).

We're going to try and sub the 4th edition, but Shiri's knowledge of Japanese is incomplete so we can't go purely off the vocals. We may have to wait for the Chinese subs or similar to pop up. If anyone here can pitch in with scripts or other help, feel free to pitch in, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I eagerly await for the Komeiji skit subs.

Yeah, I'd be able to offer some assistance. It'd be a good way to practice listening comprehension, heh.

Bump!  :V

Just finished up with Yuyuko and Youmu!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08TfMiUqks4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08TfMiUqks4)

Hot off the press, so the quality may be bad until it's finished processing. Please wait warmly.

All that's left for the 3rd GP is Witch Doll and the TewiKourin finalists. Tewifying and I are all busy with school, NForza's got a loaded schedule too.

All of that said, if anyone here can contribute notes on the 4th M-1 manzais at all, I eagerly encourage you to do so. Every bit counts. I went through all the videos and added the de-Engrish'd Demo subs from Various1260's channel.

SUCCESS!

This means that the Komeiji manzai has become first priority.

IT'S A MUST!

Hi!

Tewifying just finished up the Witch Doll script for the 3rd M-1, and I'll be working with Shiri to edit and sub that all through the night. She suggested I ask, though:

Are there any particular requests for what parts of the 4th you guys want us to prioritize?
(Yes, we'll be doing the Komeiji sister's skit first*, they seem to be the most fun and popular.)
(*She may just do the Nitori/Hina commercial for the 4th while screwing around in class before that, though, since it's much faster.)
Title: Re: Touhou M-1 Grand Prix "Translation Project"
Post by: Furienify on January 28, 2010, 09:58:37 AM
Well, that went unexpectedly fast.

Tewi thought she'd have this for me when the weekend came, but here it is today, and it took all of 3 hours to subtitle.

Witch Doll!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge2fyUG98yI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge2fyUG98yI)

She's going to finish TewiKourin #2 soon if she's not too tired from class and that will be all for the 3rd M-1. After that she may do Nitori/Hina's 4th M-1 commercial first. Either way, first manzai for the 4th will be the Komeiji Sisters.

If there aren't any other requests, then yes, I'll probably be doing that as my schedule permits.

Apologies in advance for any delays or mistranslations - despite my mother tongue being Chinese, it's unfortunately not Cirno, but I'll be doing my best.

If a Librarian's voice counts: I'd say yes. The same goes for thread (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=4807.0) as well. They both would have a better place in Touhou Projects or maybe rather the Addict Recovery Center.

I've never seen any of this before. I checked your link and they all said 3rd edition or #3 or whatever, so I hunted for a first episode, but no dice. Closest I got was 3rd edition #1 I think. Was Rei-moo and Marisa. I also saw a Tewi and Rinnosuke.

Anyway I didn't particularly enjoy them, are those just "Bad" episodes? or is it likely that if I didn't enjoy those I probably wont enjoy viewing others?

There's no major 'first episode'- most of these skits are taken from the DVDs with the judging/scoring skipped (since that would be really time consuming- the full DVD is about an hour and a half long), but the judging/scoring sections can still be found on Youtube in raw form.

dgreater1's got a lot of the classic stuff- where the 'Jaaaooo!' and 'Cheeeeen!' memes come from, you'll probably enjoy them more.

And it's understandable if you don't enjoy them, they're pretty heavy with cultural references and Japanese wordplay, and some people just don't like translated comedy material in general because it's simply not the same.

Fortunate that you bumped this, I was just hunting the thread down to say that I'm in the works of finishing TewiKourin's Finals, which will be the last of the 3rd M-1 skits.

Yo. Seems like I got named so I may as well sign up now...

I got exams for the next couple days but I'll make time for whatever Furienify just sent me later.

@Koipop: Tewifying just finished the Komeiji thing so that's the next one up as soon as Furienify and I can get around to our parts.

I just want to point out that my Japanese is extremely limited and my only translation experience is with French (and watching too much anime - luckily I can figure out a bunch of references from that alone..."south family thousand autumns" indeed, Minami-ke.) If you find any discrepancies where you think we did something wrong chances are I did. For those of you that don't know any better, enjoy, ha.

Oh wow, I never new this project was on so quickly!
If there's anything I can do, please tell me, since if it's for M-1, I'd be more than happy!

Although since it's been so long since I did my Japanese credit course and fluency exam I dunno how much help I'll be...
(and the fact that my english vocab sucks)

?おにわさとう、おにわさとう、おにわさとう?

...But I remember enough to state that the last line is supposed to be
鬼は外 (おにはそと)、鬼は外、鬼は外
and that's what they say during the Setsubun ceremony to scare oni (which are the depiction of misfortune and evil) out of the house.

P.S.
Since nobody seems to be talking about Yugi and Suika I'm gathering their scripts right now.
If somebody is already is already planning something for them, plz notify me so I don't end up with scripts that nobody is gonna make use of.

Anyone mind checking it over for me?

Also, should I just paste the entire thing here? since it ended up being 12pgs long in Microsoft Word.

Nvm, I just uploaded it on mediafire so those who are interested can DL it there.

No problem, be glad to help you out anytime...

...In fact, if you haven't already gotten around to doing stuff like:
1.The various commentaries and judges.
2.Orin and Okuu
3.Satori and Koishi
4.Kanako and Suwako

I'll be glad to do them.
It's just that I think I'll take a bit loger for Kanako and Suwako since they have lots of Studio Ghibli references.
Otherwise, I'm free for the rest of today and many parts of tomorrow so during that time I can translate all you guys want.

Oh, wow. Awesome.

Right now our current schedule has:

1. Upload Nitori's commercial.
2. Proofread Suika/Yuugi, upload.
3. Proofread Satori/Koishi, Subtitle, Upload.

So right now we're missing:

1. Mokou/Keine
2. Kanako/Suwako
3. Satori/Okuu
4. Koishi/Orin
5. Orin/Okuu
6. Judgements and commentaries
7. Opening
8. Ending Theme
Edit: 9. Extras

We're definitely going to get around to all of the skits eventually, but your work really helps us along.

The Opening is pretty important for the sake of plot coherence (something about the grand prize being land on the moon?) and then the skits are the rest of the material we're concerned about, but getting the judgements to complete the whole DVD would be epic.

Honestly, do whatever you find the most entertaining, we'll be sure to let you know if we pick up anything new ourselves so we don't overlap.

Edit: There's also the extra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvLiAob0bUY) material (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0SoEG2XKmQ) on the DVD.

Oh cool! I mean, Mokou and Keine are good for taking?
Then would it be good if I call dibs on Mokou and Keine,
as well as the commentaries (Opening, extras, judges... etc.) for now?

I'll get around to translating some stuff after I slack a bit more.  :D

Just now!  8) (Man I wish there was a Wakamoto, or at least Barbatos Emoticon. lol)
I finished the translation for Mokou and Keine.
Ware Pheonix (http://www.mediafire.com/?yyzxmotwljv)

Like the last one I did, I didn't bother checking it over much, so I hope the editing is not too hard.
Otherwise I'm done for today. -Or so I think.
Tell me if you need to know anything about anything that I may have missed out on or need clarification on.

Oh yeah I did some research and I roughly found out that the prize is land on the moon, but what makes it confusing is the fact that the unit "石" (read "goku") is area equivilent to sustaining one grown man per year.(In terms of rice yield) So the prize is area "enough to sustain" 1000000 people.
Apparently, according to yahoo answers, this is the equivalent of 576000000000dollars (U.S.)
...So area that equals up to that much on the moon?
Can anyone tell me the price rate per kms sqr on the moon? XD

Hmmm, there's a few parts I can't hear properly in the Opening...
You possibly know who Eirin says she's able to understand now?
Since she says something like "Now I know how it feels to be like ..."
But I'm having troubles hearing the last part... Kaguya? Yukari? Nazrin?
Any ideas?

I don't hear a Kaguya, Yukari or Nazrin. There's a TLnote at this particular scene in Chinese referring to the previous M-1.

During the 3rd M-1, Keine was out MCing/Announcing from an area where the 'Loser's Bracket' had just taken place- she was surrounded by the losers of Touhou, mostly the wimpy stage 1/2 and literature-only characters (as seen here- Nazrin, the Three Mischievous Fairies, etc) and was visibly annoyed by it to the point where she ended up attacking several audience members. Eirin ends up doing the same. The winner of that 'loser bracket' go to join the contest as the 5th pairing- last year it was MikoMiko Spark, this year it seems to be Koishi/Orin.

The same thing is probably happening in this part, but to see how it went last year for reference, here's the link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV2pC0HSa30).

Edit: It's around 2:40ish, for clarification.

I REALLY should've said something about it after you subbed the first Miko-Miko Spark routine, but don't think you needed to write "ze" every time Marisa said it. I mean, it should be obvious to hear, and it just looks out of place in the subs. Otherwise, you did a really good job.

I thought I would finish this (the OP) by today, but it looks like I can't.
... If it wasn't for my reading week ending so soon  OTL
I'll see if I could gather up the stuff I was able to finish any time this week
-and if not, I'll still pitch in help during the weekends and stuff.
(Plus, I come to the board every so often so tell me if there's anything additional that I could do!)
Also, count me in for any future translation projects and stuff if there is any!

I'm glad it looks like everything turned out OK.
Since I'm a bit busier than I was during reading week, furthur translations will be a bit slow...
Sorry for the wait...
On another note, the OP translation is roughly 45% done, so maybe I'd be able to post tomorrow for it.
But it's questionable since Rinnosuke just had to use difficult words! *Cringe*
I'm planning to do Kanako and Suwako next if that hasn't been touched upon yet, and it'd probably be about in a week that I might get around to doing it.
(Or, since I failed Calc. I might end up having more time after all? Maybe?)

I'm keeping up on those, and I'm using my spare time for this, so don't worry~
I'm actually a bit glad that I'm gonna drop a course since my timetable was packed tight. DX

So, Moriya Kero will be worked on, hopefully by next week!

Apologies for lateness!

M-1 OP translations are finished!
for the OPs and stuff, since there are many characters, I decided not to put colors.
But this time I arranged the parts in a different way, hope it helps.
Also, since I'm thinking on a snowy... I mean foggy head, I can't remember all the references to the previous M-1. So, also sorry about that.

Well here's the link! 8)
4th M-1 OP (http://www.mediafire.com/?tm5wf2mmwwz)

P.S. As it says in the doc, look to the previous posts on this thread for info about prize and stuff.

The first of the 4th M-1 is up! Oni Goddess Girls, starring Suika and Yuugi! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XsYhR6nDwk)

Many manymanymany countless thanks to Sabino for pitching in two scripts (including this one!) over the weekend, all with minimal errors. Far faster than we've ever been able to do this. :*

You and Sabino....I worship you.... :*

... and if in any case that the watcher of this has not viewed the Ghibli movies mentioned in here, I strongly suggest you watch them. ...except for maybe Ponyo...

I guess next week I'll be aming towards doing some of the judges I guess.

P.S.I just noticed that Remilia's fake birthday was the same day as my birthday... Yay! :D

Moriya Kero is finally done! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzMRn5lxeZY) That took a lot longer than I expected, it's massive with a lot of song lyrics. (And yes I'm missing -one- line ah well)

And yes, Tewi's still working on Satori/Koishi. School's just the priority for her at the moment and I feel bad whenever I ask her about this stuff.  :V
Title: Re: Touhou M-1 Grand Prix Translation Project

Hmm, I don't notice the line missing... but it looks ok XD

I can pitch in help for Satori/Koishi if its needed, so feel free to give me a shout.
Oh and has anything been decided for the other stuff, like Satori/Okuu, Orin/Koishi or Orin/Okuu?
Since I'd rather that the main parts get sorted out first, before I go on doing other stuff... which I hope to get started on tomorrow night.

Oh and this is something that's a bit off from the topic, but a while ago I was hoping if I could english-sub videos on nicovideo (Like hand drawn touhou stuff) and now that I actually am in a translation project, I was wondering if you guys have the time and patience to add in a small section of translating random videos on nico video that I or any of you guys found amusing.
(Stuff like this (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm9058535) for example...
Tell me what you guys think about the idea.

We'll still take care of the Komeiji Sister's skit, but Orin/Okuu, Koishi/Okuu and Satori/Okuu are free. Take whatever you want.

For the other videos: if you can provide the translation, I can probably figure out a way to subtitle it. I'd be glad to. Very few of those random animations ever see the light of day in the Western community.

Edit: Also, do you happen to know what in the world the symbol on the anonymous person's faces means?

By 'anonymous persons' I mean the guys in, say, the introduction, that Eirin shot with arrows. They show up all the time.

It's Sin alright.

Those are random characters called "Tsumi bukuro" (Meaning Sin bags) which were randomly made by Japanese consumers.-First seen in Yukarin Fantasia.

Those guys are pretty much the depiction of extreme touhou nerds, and will follow their loved ones (Yukari, Eirin, Yuuka...etc.) till the ends of existence.
...
In a way you could sort of say they're the Prinneys to Etna (via Disgaia), except they're not employed.

I'm finished with the Judges from rounds 1 to 3 (Oni godess girls, Ware Pheonix, and Third eye.)

They're up like always (http://www.mediafire.com/?cjwthznhhyg) 8)

Next week I'm planning to do either the next three Judges, or Third eye.
Requests on which to do first? ;)

Also, depending on how things go I'm planning to translate some hand drawn videos next week or the week after so if you have any request on that, come forth!
Forget that, I'm gonna do stuff now! XD

P.S. Tell me that it wasn't just me that got the urge to shatter Rinnosuke's glasses when he said he hated Satori.

What disappointed you?
I hope I didn't translate anything awkwardly, and if I did I'm sorry.

Also, since I got the random urge and found out that tomorrow's morning lectures are postponed, I was wanting to get done a few translation stuff, so...
Few questions:
Anyone know if there is a translated version of these videos?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngOquY8NYSA&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOFkKnzljLo&feature=related
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6863866

Also, would you rather that I make a separate thread about where people can post their translation requests?
(Since I'm not used to using movie editing software, somebody will need to edit the actual movies though...)

Thx for reading!

Well than, since written scripts are much easier to deal with I'll begin now! XDD
Any oppositions? No matter if there are, since I'm feeling weirdly High now. 8)

If I do make a new thread I guess it'll be "Video translation requests." or something...
This I do need proper opinions on, since I don't want to make a thread and be depressed with it.
Awaiting opinions on that one.

You could make it here in the Touhou Addict Recovery Center if you wanted, I don't think anyone would mind. But don't be surprised if you get randomly flooded for requests.

I don't have many plans for tomorrow so I'll do more random stuff if there aren't any requests.  :)
P.S. Come to think about it if there is to be any requesting, Furi, you should get the highest priority since you're the one who have done all the editing and everything else for me. So give me any requests if you have!

I decided to use today to finish off 3rd Eye since it seems there were some people waiting for it.
So here it is! 8)

Satorin Okkyun (http://www.mediafire.com/?jdymezagwdn)

I'm a bit angry at my self since it doesn't look to be flowing like it was originally... (Since it has a really nice flow and tempo at the end.)
Oh yeah, Where'd Koipop go? He needs to know that there Koishi hidden in the bathing scene.  :D
Anyways that with over exposure to Satori + Okuu's bathing was too much for me, I think I'll call it a day now.

Hmm... what should I do next...

Koishi/Orin? That one seems to be quite popular from the artwork I keep seeing on it.

Oh it was here~ I was expecting this to be in Rika and Nitori's Garage as I was planning to translate the 4th M-1 that I finished watching yesterday during the weekend, but I guess I will just let you guys coordinate me to translate whichever is needed.

More translators the better! XD

I dunno, I was planning to do Koishi and Orin this weekend if not tomorrow.
(Although I might not be able to finish it since I might be a tad bit busy.)
The main ones that have not been done touched are: Orin & Okuu, MCs and judges for those, and the Omake parts. (Since I think Satori & Koishi is being done right now)
So, you're free to choose which ever you like, but let Furi know because he's the one actually putting in the subtitles and doing all the work for us.

P.S. If you see me translating anything awkwardly, please tell me since I'm a bit uneasy about some of my hearing skills.

As of now, taking what Sabino is doing into account (and are we ever going to finish the Komeiji sisters? It's like we torture people) we have:

EDIT: 0. Komeiji Sisters (+ Judging)   <- looks like we can't get it done in time >_>
1. Moriya Kero Judging
2. Okuu/Orin (+ Judging)
3. Koishi/Orin Judging
4. Ending Scene (Champion announcement, etc.)
5. ED Theme (Lyrics)
6. Bonus ("KourinSpark" + the other audio-only scene)

You can find the unsubbed links down here. (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Touhou_M-1_Grand_Prix#4th_Touhou_Grand_Prix_.28Comiket_77.29_2) They're all posted up by Murasa, you can check her channel for an entire playlist if a link isn't on that list.

The judges + Commentaries for Cat Stone (http://www.mediafire.com/?wmznqjtmmrn)

I'm not sure how you want to do it for the CM and commetary part after this since the video I found on Nico video has both of them stuck together in a roughly 3 minute video, but you've already uploaded the CM part... so...
(Oh and for the CM part I just noticed that the price is strange, since Nitori 's saying 200 Kan mon.)
I guess for now, I'll be moving on to the Final battles...
