Honestly, I'd be a lightning yokai. Raining lightning and thunder on my enemies or victims would be sick. plus generating an intense electric feild could protect you from mostly anything especially knives and metal.

And wind up gapped to death, or killed and eaten, or blown up by a gunpowder doll.
or eaten by Rumia.

On the off-chance that I don't get eaten by some rogue youkai, I'd probably get Keine to teach me some basic danmaku or something.
And then get eaten by some rogue youkai.

I'd become Chen's shikigami.
Only good things could come of it.

I'd go find Rikako and learn the secrets to the POWER OF SCIENCE.
Then I'd take my new jetpack for a test drive and throw mechanical gears at people.

Interdimensional travel like the Ing from Metroid prime 2 would be cool. THE BARRIER HAS NO EFFECT! AND you can steel food from sakuya's pantry, because interdimensional travel and time stopping are two sides of the same coin, according to ZUN, SHE CAN'T STOP YOU!

If I wasn't kiolled or horribly maimed in some way, I stumble my way to a human village, ask someone to take me to to the Hakurei, and ask Reimu to take me to Yukari and get myself back home.
I might Make a record of things I learn in my time in Gensokyo, maby make a map of it, but mostly try to go home.
Gensokyo has no internet after all.
-
Youkai food. The lot of you. Saying anything else is unrealistic unless you happen to already be a superpowerful youkai~
And don't even think of going to the SDM, as seems to happen a lot to outsiders in fanworks. That's an instant death sentence right there~

I'll admit, getting there WILL take some effort and perhaps luck. It's obvious that the first instance of being gapped into Gensokyo is where you're survival skills are put to the ultimate test, if you know what you're doing (Or have watched Survivorman recently) then you'll survive long enough to reach the village.
Trust me, if you can get through the initial journey and settle down, I don't think being a faceless resident will matter much. Besides, we all know the true role of the faceless resident in Gensokyo.

I think I'd find Eirin and try to get some type of medical treatment to make me not get eaten/destroyed

Hmm... What would I do...
Well, I would probably seek out Reimu's shrine, then possibly be one of the first people to donate purely because I feel sorry for her.
Then I would ask Reimu to teach me some basic Danmaku skills... and I'd also probably end up making sure that Suika doesn't get too horribly drunk... or pissed off... (Missing Purple Power)
Then I'd attempt to get into the Scarlet Devil Mansion to take a look at some of the books.
Then become friends with Patchy and Kaguya. =3

Learn danmaku, learn to aru masuta supaaku, get damn good at danmaku, spend my days going around to discover all the various youkai that are around.
Also <insert typical mai waifu thread post regarding Reisen and Sanae here>

If I were a resident of Gensokyo, the most contact I'd ever have with another Touhou character would likely be me buying allergy medicine from Reisen on a regular basis when she comes to the human village.

If I was a Gensokyo resident... hmm... I'd probably open a taco shop, learn danmaku and sadistically shoot fairies every morning. If not, I'll go live in the Mountain, with the Kappa. Provided they don't try to crawl in my anus for some orgasm sphere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kappa_(folklore)#Behavior), I'll be perfectly fine.

It wouldn't be too hard to get to satori's, granted you can sneak around an entire city, avoiding every single youkai. Also, considering okuu is probably the farthest away from the mansion compared to her other pets, no worries about her.
Now, rin, on the other hand, despite not being radioactive, would see you as biofuel.
-
How do any of you expect to learn danmaku when none of you are shrine maidens, wizards, or youkai? I don't get it.
PS: Good luck flying

LOL. Being able to arc lightning through a room and pull the energy out of things has always been a want of mine, if that's weird. Scientificaly speaking, if you pull all the electrons out of something, it will turn to vapor because there is nothing to hold the atoms together. Lightning = ULTIMATE!!
-
Get eaten ;_;
but before getting eaten I'd try to graze danmaku
preferably of the laser sort
EDIT: On second thought I'd probably have a hard time finding Keine before being eaten by a D-Rank first midboss weasel youkai, so lasers are out of the question. Oh well...
-
Since two of my favorite characters lie in the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and Sakuya's technically a human, I'd probably take my chances trying to befriend the incredibly cool Hong Meiling. Yes, she does eat people, but supposedly only certain kinds such as shrine maidens. If I am deemed worthy as anything other than a meal, I could easily become a very devout and loyal member of the Scarlet Devil Mansion crew with the proper training, which is something I'm sure Remilia could appreciate. The preferable position would probably be working under Sakuya, doing the cleaning tasks deemed too menial for the head maid, as it's simple and noncombative, thus allowing me as decent an amount of safety as I could get. The people of the Scarlet household don't seem like the sort to simply just double cross one another, so the only things I'd have to really fear is the periodic raid by a playable character or perhaps accidentally stumbling into Flandre's room. It seems unlikely that I'd get a career choice though, so I'd do close to just about anything, so long as it wasn't inherently immoral and I was skilled and able enough to do so.
I'd be risking my neck, sure, but it'd be my only chance to really make the most of the situation. The only problem is that my reverence for Patchouli could easily be misinterpreted and cause troubles for me, especially since despite them being celebrities to me, I'd be just a creepy stranger to them, at least initially. So as much as it pains me I'd probably avoid Miss Knowledge if at all possible. She seems to prefer her books to actual people anyway, so it likely wouldn't be too hard.
Also, I don't know how any of you could feel safe around Reimu. Sure, she's supposedly the defender of the humans, but her temper is just so easily provoked by everybody she meets. I think that if I ever met her, I'd find myself on the wrong end of a homing amulet. If I changed my mind and decided safety was my primary concern or if my plans to integrate myself into the Scarlets' abode utterly failed due to disapproval, I'd seek out Keine who despite seemingly misguided methods, seems to actually be quite sincere in her desire to help people. I don't have any particular plans about what I'd want to do from there, but I would probably seek a way home like AnaloKuma, since Gensokyo's such a dangerous place for people without purpose.
Well, at least all of that's what I'd like to believe, but the honest to god truth is if I actually did end up in some random part of Gensokyo, my actual course of actions would probably differ greatly from my plans. This would be due to a mix of unforeseen circumstances, confusion, the degree to which I'd be able to realistically carry out such plans and my fluxuating mood. Who knows what'd actually happen. Additionally, this is all assuming I just suddenly found myself in Gensokyo one day. If you're asking exactly what my preferred place would've been if I'd lived there all along, I'd have an entirely different answer.
-
My best bet would probably trying to make my way to the temple of Myouren and seeing if discipleship would work. Hopefully once I can get 3-4 spell cards I can go about making friends with all of the scary monsters of Gensokyo.
-
I would likely not meet many residents of Gensokyo mentioned in any of the games' plots, and live my days out as a regular human in a human village just as everyone else in this thread would because realistically they aren't going to risk their lives to get to meet their favorite characters.
-

You could either live a relatively boring life (to be fair, a Keine is fine too), or you could take the risk involved with one of the various available get-to-know-the-touhous routes and live a life of win...
I suppose there are three obvious routes for turning yourself into a youkai.
- I hear Reisen sells medicine in the Human Village every now and then.
Apply charisma and/or manipulative skills/flattery, ask her if she can arrange a meeting with Eirin, ask Eirin for help. (the "Eirin Eirin Tasukete Eirin!" route)
- Alice seems to have done it. Ask her how/if she can help. For optimal results (the ones that don't land you as random food) make sure Marisa or Reimu is there before you go visit her house. (the Rozen Maiden route)
- Yuuka is theorized to have done it. Go ask her. (the Suicide route)
If you don't want to turn into a Youkai, you could always beseech Keine (the one who seems to be friendliest to humans out of the bunch), Marisa (the one least likely to kill you, but most likely to get you killed), Reimu (who will help you in any way or form as long as you donate) or maybe even still Alice (tsundere can be abused :'D) for training/help to get started with the whole survive-against-youkai thing.
Oh hey, there's one more type of route.
Making friends with a friendly Youkai/bunch of Youkai and hang around them, thus leaving you with protection against evil Youkai AND potential training at the same time.
Like maybe a certain wind god shrine.
Or Cirno. Cirno would be hilariously awesome.
Getting ⑨ to like you would be painfully easy.
And everyone else in Gensokyo would spare you out of pity. SAKUSESSU!
...I actually know someone who would seriously consider the Yuuka route. lol.
I'd probably start out with the non-Youkai routes, then try the Youkai routes (excluding Yuuka :'D) and if all else fails, try hanging out at the wind god shrine.
If all fails, one can still make friends with Keine in the human village, mirite?
-

PS: Good luck flying
Many of you seem to overlook the fact that humans quite frequently battle youkai every day. Not just Reimu, Marisa and Sakuya, but many humans in Gensokyo. That's the whole point of Gensokyo: keeping youkai powerful by letting them fight humans through danmaku battles and incidents.
Obviously, to make this work, the humans should be able to defend themselves, probably with danmaku. Assuming this is true, danmaku should be quite easy to learn.
Also, Marisa once started out as a normal girl too, but look at her now!
-
if I were a resident of Gensokyo, I would like to be a Galuda. Are the girls lesbian? I win. Are them straight? I win again. \o/
...since Galudas have phantom halves and can slowdown the relative time.. would Youmu be somehow related to them? What would be the ghost half's true form?
(btw if I were to wield the abilities that some of my characters -- from my own story -- have, Gensokyo and the real world could be destroyed by my presence. I don't want that.)
-

Wrong Hell, bub.
Still, Even after succeeding to not die in Gensokyo and maybe succeed at becoming a youkai, I'd go hang around the Hakurei shrine like every other character.

Can I be Esoterica's shikigami?

That's the Former Hell. To which you can reach by just going deep enough underground.
Yuyu's place is the 'purgutory' (or middle ground) of Gensokyo. While, Jigoku is where you'll be going if Shiki sends you to 'hell' (at which point you'll meet Kikuri and Konngara).

I would get eaten by Rumia.

I'd be dead.

My dreams, you just shattered them.
( Even though you are damn right. if you consider it, haha )
-
If I suddenly woke up in a land filled with dangerous little girls, human-eating youkai, and things that generally want to bite my face off, I would start smoking. Then I would proceed to endanger myself in the most unspectacular ways possible.
-
Yeah, youkai food. I'm terribly weak irl.
But if going by the assumption that I did have some kind of magical powahs, lightning and incredible speed. Knives are fun too.
-
As a human? Human village, hone my skills with the bow 'n' arrow, and just make myself useful in the fields, most likely. Yay Shrine Festivals!
As a youkai/powered human? I'd have to use precognitive powers. I myself am already inclined to that 'realm of psychokinetics', according to some guide test thinger - I have loads of deja vu all over the place.
Using my awesome future-peering powers, if I could control it enough I'd be the perfect danmaku grazer - think Gun Kata from Equilibrium. Also, I could predict when/where trouble would end up.
My danmaku patterns would involve the shots travelling a short distance, leaping forward, travelling a similar distance again, then jumping back to fly through the space they skipped. Each pattern would have a different set distance before they skipped. The bullets would be chess-themed. Some black, some white, and the different pieces would be the clue as to how far they're going to jump. Perhaps the white ones would travel backwards towards me.
My role as a youkai? Stage 3 boss, the one who points you in the kind-of right direction.
-
um.
-if i born like a human...probably would be a tomboy excentric girl ;always dressed with something pale green (faborite color for dress), who will be more confortable than femenine... and be atracted for brilliant colors and weird things. Probably an itinerant artist, because is the only way for search inspiration. But i would be a a pacifist and no like confront youkais, even be atraccted to them...i see the monsters only if im sure who their can?t see me...probably i will pass hours and hours only seen the strange objects from outside in Kourindou, hear that shopkeeper who, than me, is concidered a eerie person. We, the eccentric, sooner or late found us...like a human with magic powers (if i born in Gensokyo means who i have the magic potencial), i want follow the Marisa way, learning for myself little by little.im a intelectual anyways, no so good in duels. My head always is lost in another world and sometimes i make things who nobody can understand, even me.And use glasses without reason.
-if would be a Youkai, or youkai like, i prefer the half-something. they lives with their own rules;but are a bit solitaire...i feel more identified with the hanyou than the other species of youkai...and have something human in it.Im not so powerful but i can fly and run fast. In full moon i have very weird dreams and i can see the things who other people see. Or something who nobody can see. i never had a flu in my life, but i turn weak when no eat. I can feel the breath of the plants and trees. The humans see me like a weird thing, and the youkai like a weak...then,where is my place? for that no have home, except the same Gensokyo, like a traveller. Some kind Youkai or humans are my friends. But i never stay in a place for a long time, or maintain comunication with them. I like paint things and "paint"the things who surround me, or change the colors of the most incredible things who never was changed before..."who will be this thing, if were of a different "color"? let?s try" my power is the manipulation of colors (includes opinions and sexual orientations XD)
(wow, i was a bit inspired...)
-
Can I be Esoterica's shikigami?
This depends. How are you at fetching my slippers and preparing meals? :V
-
I'd hang out at the Human Village until Aya appeared, and then try to strike up a conversation, in the course of which I'd try to get an internship.
-
If I recall right, Remi atleast holds quite a few tea parties and I don't think they're all youkai only. So I could see being atleast an acquaintance with a few of the characters. I'm pretty sure some other places have parties and such, too.
Me, I could see myself hovering around Kourindou alot, being the bit of a computer pro and such. I can figure my way around most electronics, and I usually carried a good deal of them when I used to go around Akihabara and other places. Depended on how lazy I was that day... >.>;
-
Part 1: Survival
Try to fashion a crude spear. Slashing doesn't work, bludgeoning would only piss 'em off, impaling otoh...
Make my way to the Human Village and hope I won't have to try to nail any youkai to any trees.
Part 2: Byakuren
Become a part of Byakuren's group. Act as a missionary for her ideology. Hopefully she'll buff me up to 11 to nullify youkai dangers.
-
I would steal Patchy's idea for a Bean Danmaku, and never go hungry.
Also, I would become the Iron Chef of Gensokyo.
-
Iron Chef of Gensokyo.
Just this. Master fist weapons. Insert a fuckton of cooking metaphors in your speech patterns, and You will become Gensokyo's Mr.Champloo.
-
Actually I'd just hope I remembered to bring my camera. :V
It works for Aya, after all, and since the shutter reload on a digital one is much less...
-
This depends. How are you at fetching my slippers and preparing meals? :V
I can do those! *nodnodnod*
-
DELICIOUS!
...nah, I'm not that awesome.
-
In that case I aim to become Lumber's shikigami
-
Then I'll be Tek's
-
But I'm already a resident of Gensokyo!
-
We know, aya published those embarassing photos of you last week - they were a huge hit.
Anyway, i came up with a new plan for moving to gensyoko and to an extent, living there.
To start, i would need and accordion (optional for street performing, and thus currency), a small rifle with about 500 rounds of ammo (a .22, .223, or hopefully a 7.62x39), a refillable lighter with at least 10 refills - or 10 disposable lighters, a backback, magnesium fire starter, a small hatchet, If i want some better defense for when ammo gets short, possibly a short, sharp, sword, a pocket knife, and lastly a compass, several sheets of paper, and a writign instrument so i can map out the terrain.
Now that i've entered gensyoko fully equipped, i would immediately make my way to the human village, building basic shelters along the way and ALWAYS keeping a fire lit and my gun loaded and at the ready. The spellcard rules mean nothing to a human who can not use magic. Once there, if i managed to pack around an instrument, i would do some street performign for cash/supplies, but regardless, i would find a place to stay. After a short bit, i would definately want to meet some people, so i would go straight to the forest of magic, killing and eating fairies for sustanance (magic fuel?), and cotnact either marisa or alice for the purpose of learning magic, at least weak spellcards - so i could use the spellcard rules "if you defeat a human, you may not kill them" tidbit to my advantage with more pwoerfull youkai. Marisa could possibly be hospitable, and i may be able to get lodging with her - or alice. I wouldn't be trying anything funny, mind you. By now, i would be able to exploit the spellcard rules with a few shikigami and contact yukari for returning to the real world, or, if i wished otherwise, i could A: Contact yukari, or alice, pertaining to matters concerning becoming a youkai, or B: Do what marisa does, learn magic if possible, and live life. If i cannot learn magic, A and B are null, and i would either have to work out something with reimu for cotnacting yukari for the purposes of leaving or turning youkai or lvie in the human village. As a last resort, the SDM could be nice lodging - although hard work, and occasional anemia comes with the 3 meals and a free bed deal. Being human would put me above the fairies, and remilla's fate manipulation could lead to me becoming someone around sakuya's level, if remi wishes.
Whatever would happen, happens.
-
You know, the more Bread-- Err... Toast gives out his plans, the more they sound like something I'd do... However I'd skip right ahead to finding Alice for at least a book on basic danmaku and becoming a youkai.
However, my plan would be a bit different... First I'd no doubt find Yukari the moment I get in a gap to Gensokyo, ask her about being a youkai, and I'd expect to be dumped into the human village. I doubt the human village is far from the Forest of Magic, so I'd head straight there, looking mainly for Alice, since Marisa isn't very dependable. The least I'd do is ask where I can learn basic magic and for at least one spellcard, or information on where to get said spellcard. From there, successful or not, I would hitch a ride with Marisa to the Scarlet Devil Mansion, let her steal books as she pleases, and while she does so, I would find Patchouli and ask her about magic, danmaku, and spellcards. If Patchouli allows me to learn a little, I will read one or two books on making a spellcard and shooting danmaku, then thank her and bugger on out of there before Sakuya or Remilia sees me there. If it fails, then I'd just bugger on out of there. From there, I'd hitch a ride back to the Forest of Magic, and go back to the Human Village, to ask Keine and Akyu about flying, abilities, and how to control such things. From there, I'd then make my way to the Hakurei Shrine and hang out with Reimu a little. Then I'd ask her where Byakuren lives, then become friend with her, ask her how she became a youkai, etc. If for any reason, I succeed in becoming a youkai, I would then act as the only youkai youkai-exterminator alongside Reimu and Marisa. If I fail to become a youkai, I should at least have learned enough to fend for myself.
Of course, after that, I'd just hang with Reimu when I get bored.
-
Realistically, I'd be youkai food or downright pointless in existance. :V
This is most likely if I don't serve under Wriggle Nightbug, in which she would work a human to death anyways :V
-
Yours is so risky :V
-
I would see all of those beautiful girls running about!
...And then most likely suffer a humiliating defeat after a bit of excessive flirting.
But I joke, I joke.
I'd probably become a devout follower of Reimu's shrine god. I feel sorry for her, so many people visit yet none of them seem to go their for worship.
Or I'd make the foolish, foolish mistake of climbing that mountain to try and meet Aya and the rest of the tengu.
Chances are that that'd end in a bloody death...
And the final option, train like Reimu and develop my own danmaku skills. After all, she started not even being able to harm her enemies. Throw in a decade or two of hard work and dedication... Blam! You can help Reimu and the gang solve all of the problems Gensokyo frequently suffers.

Try my best to find Ran...or at least admire her from afar...
I'm too shy :(

I'd hunt some fairy and get some PnP. (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=4338.0)
It should do something, right?
-
Something as long as you can hold on to it.
It's presence sparks a ecosystem in Gensokyo over the collection of it.
:munch:
Luckily we find that the addictive qualities of the substance are mostly mental rather than physical. You'd still have to be able to contain it though.

I want my Gensokyo power to be the ability to teleport food away from starving orphans
-
A mix of Sakuya and Yukari. Or maybe its ExSakuya?
The complete ultimate power of time and space. Some say Sakuya already has that.
Yukari has at least the space part down and is considered powerful with that.
So its like that...

Well, as someone with a technical and scientific background, I could carve out a niche for myself helping the residents of Gensokyo use outside world tech that happens to find its way in. The main problem is providing electricity, but I know how batteries and generators work. I think I could build such things if I had the materials. Of course, I would have to survive long enough to make it to a place of safety first. I'm moderately fit, but can't fight much and am not at home in the wilderness. But if I didn't become youkai food, I could go places.
After all, who can afford to buy (probably from Rinnousuke's shop) outside world items and hire a specialist (me) to teach them how to use and maintain them? Mostly rich people. Like Remilia. (Or Kaguya, but I doubt that the lunarians would much care for the "primitive" technology of Earth.) If I could get hired as Remilia's tech-minion at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, then I could meet Patchy. I could probably trade knowledge with Patchy for at least a little bit of magical knowledge. After all, she's expressed interest in things like "how does nuclear fusion work?" which I understand at least the basics of. She also has a lot of outside world books in her library that she likely lacks the knowledge context to make use of or properly understand.
Once I know some magic I can start doing more interesting things, like making some technology-assisting magics to help me out. To start with, simple stuff like making a magic-powered eternal battery or a spell to fuse broken circuit boards without heat or tools, but eventually I'd want to create something that would allow access to outside communication networks such as the internet and the cell phone system. It would not only make my life more enjoyable and convenient, but it would expand the range of services I could offer, thus making me more useful. And the more useful I become, the more wealth I can accumulate, the more knowledge/power I can get, the more interesting people I can meet, and the less likely I am to get eaten.
Fun stuff to do besides that basic plan:
1) Visit and talk to Sanae. As a fellow immigrant from the outside world, we'd have a lot in common and could enjoy each others' company. I'm not that interested in Sanae as MAI WAIFU but it's always good to have friends.
2) Get a pet and raise it from infancy. Take VERY good care of it and be very loving, so that it will live long enough to become a youkai and be well-disposed towards me. Who wouldn't want, say, a cute little nekomata of their very own?
3) Enroll in Keine's history class. The history of a place like Gensokyo must be very interesting, not to mention that many of the historical figures will be immortal or at least very long-lived and so will still be around. So it should double as a "who's who" of contemporary people.

I'd attempt to find work at the SDM, if that don't work, Eientei, If THAT don't work, I'd steal ability based vitamins from Eirin's lab. I'd use these to steal alice's grimoire. I'd use this to tunr myself into a youkai. All my problems are solved, since the book can lend me some danmaku skills. I'd return it before the night was over. Noone ever knows. I'm in slightly easier street. I'd hide my form and try to make money in the human village. I'd likely steal things from various sources to establish myself. When I'm established. I'll scare the crap out of humans for kicks.

Plan A (happily ever after): Do what everybody else does and try and become a youkai either through Alice, Yukari or Byakuren. Learn magic, damaku and flying and enjoy my careless millenia long life. Might build a mansion and get a familliar if I'm powerful enough. Otherwise serve a more powerful youkai if I get bored.
Plan B (Body hijack): Learn the ability to possess others if I'm not capable to efficiently become a youkai or if I have become a very weak youkai. Find nearest God-Hax Touhou and possess her. Easy supreme power. :V
Plan C (Overlord of Gensokyo): Find Nitori and Eirin and build a friendship with them by providing knowledge from the outside world. I'll propose to build new gadgets with them, like say a PNP/magic gathering machine. After said machine is done and working properly, I'll use said machine behind their backs, hoping to become the strongest youkai in existence. Results will either be 1) It works perfectly, and immediatly attain stage 7 youkai form (Absolute Divinity) and go on and rule over Gensokyo/create my own world 2) It goes haywire and dumps me at stage 5 (monster/One Winged Angel), pretty much dooming me to be obliterated by the Gensokyo Top 3) It screws up royally and makes me explode.
Plan D (PNP): Just gather PNP to become a youkai. I'll start out trying to battle weaker fairies with simple weapons and possibly learn danmaku. Keep going up the evolutionary chain until I'm relatively safe from most Gensokyo dangers, then follow the lines of Plan A.
If possible in any of these plans, I'll try and find a spell or potion to turn me female, cuz apparently females are just way better at magic in every way and overall just stronger than males in Gensokyo. Only as a female can my power reach it's full potential. At least this logic works in Disgaea, which flat out states females are just better at magic.
(In case you're wondering after reading these plans, yes, I am extremely power hungry and have aspirations for godhood)

Assuming those three are willing to assist you. Yukari will most likely be asleep. Not sure how Byakuren would address you, and Alice would probably ignore you. Build yourself a mansion. Sure I'd love to as well, where do I hire builders?
Plan B (Body hijack): Learn the ability to possess others if I'm not capable to efficiently become a youkai or if I have become a very weak youkai. Find nearest God-Hax Touhou and possess her. Easy supreme power. :V
"Find nearest God-Hax character and posess her" and the statement from below "f possible in any of these plans, I'll try and find a spell or potion to turn me female" The thing I've always wondered about possession spells and those who have them is how strangely well adapted they are to their new body. First example: ganondorf in twilight princess posesses Zelda in the end game and is very well adjusted in the new body. Most cases of humans posessing animals or other creatures show the humans well adapted to their new temporary form. I beg to differ, first of all there are anatomy issues and brain functions that will have to be adjusted for one to properly control a new form. It's like trying to play touhou with your xbox controller. So assuming "nearest god-hax" doesn't murder you with colorful danmaku cascades, you would be faced wit hthe difficulty of adjusting to a teenage female's body. Kinda difficult even by standards of fantasy.
Plan C (Overlord of Gensokyo): Find Nitori and Eirin and build a friendship with them by providing knowledge from the outside world. I'll propose to build new gadgets with them, like say a PNP/magic gathering machine. First you'd have to figure out how to build said machine. Nitori would likely be of great assistance. The whole plan may take years. And we haven't even comepletely figured out the evolutionary line. I'd predict that option 3 would be the most likely. Although I'd assume you'd survive.
This proves that plans later in the alphabet are often better. I don't know much of japanese mythology so the whole "become a youkai thing" doesn't make that much sense to me.
[/quote]
Well maybe in Disgaea, and yes the lack of male spellcasters in Gensokyo seem to support that theory, but jsut one counter-example can tear down that theory. Now the question comes: Who the heck could brew such a potion. Answer obviously being Eirin. Then the question comes: Why the heck would she ever do that? Finally: Assuming you get ahold of it, what potential side effects may come of it, not to mention the likely painful process.
(In case you're wondering after reading these plans, yes, I am extremely power hungry and have aspirations for godhood)
Sorry to rain on your parade like this, but there have to be easier ways than this to achieve godhood

I would be the gatekeeper of SDM when China get's fired.
-
Forget her being fired. Kill china, take job. *awesomeface*
-
Now how would you go about killing China?
-
and WHY!?
She is a perfectly nice person and never did anything bad to you, why would you kill the poor girl!?
-
well, "nice" is debatable but kuma is right she didn't do anything to you.
-
Find Yuyuko, get sent to Hakugyokurou, enjoy life in the beautiful Netherworld. At least, I believe life is supposed to be good for honest people.
-
well, "nice" is debatable but kuma is right she didn't do anything to you.
She doesn't have to. It's her job that he wants.
If there's an obstacle to your goal, you get rid of it. Simple as that.
@OkashiiNaito: Why not come with me to Makai, fellow Shinki-ist? Who knows we just may become demons if we live there long enough.
We just need to find away to get in...or ask Sara to open the gate...
-
We just need to find away to get in...or ask Sara to open the gate...
She likely won't do that anytime soon. Unless you plan to take her out. As a human.
-
@Neco-Arc Erebus: I accept your noble offer. Strange I didn't think of that earlier.... I bet attaining youkai/demonhood is far easier in Makai than any where else. Shinki might have a few jobs for us too!
But yeah, getting past the gate.... At least the Makai residents seem friendly enough (more than most Gensokyo residents), and wouldn't bother us that much. I mean, Reimu did start most of those fights herself, afterall.
-
Another possible plan when falling into Gensokyo: Take residence in the human village as soon as possible, find an unused house (or if I'm forced to, build a simple cottage) and try and get on the Human Village's good side. Try and convince Rinnosuke to give me a few forms of electronics in his shop, and try making contact with Yukari or Kanako (and thus Utsuho) to provide energy. Otherwise ask Nitori for some gear.
When everything is set and ready, I will start my deep research into the mysteries of PNP. Maybe I can even make PNP based inventions, like a PNP tree! ......though it would turn into a youkai in seconds and fly away thanks to it's own produced PNP....... I can always try and make a human safe dosis of PNP, sure to cause evolution! (like the Red Gem from Cave Story the Doctor made.....hmmmm.....PNP and Red Flowers are starting to look quite alike....)
-
tl;dr raining on parades
Logic can get you killed, so be smart don't think.
oh the irony.
But anyway, assuming I survive the first few hours upon entering Gensokyo, I'd probably stay in the Human Village and try to make regular visits to the Hakurei Shrine, since it's a nest for youkai after all.
And I can try to learn some magic and danmaku for basic defense from the more dangerous youkai from anybody who's going to bother to teach me.
Very basic, but very plausible.
But if Remilia decides to visit the shrine while I'm there and she unconsciously manipulates my fate into becoming a half-human half-youkai and I get pro magic powers or something, that's fine with me.
-

Indeed, the way I see it, Makai is just as safe to live in as the human village with a far superior protector just in case things go south.
But yeah the gate is probably the only true obstacle we have...perhaps if we negotiate with Sara (read: beg), then maybe she'll let us, provided we find Shinki and see if it's okay to stay in Makai. After all, outsiders may be frowned upon, given what happened in Mystic Square. However, if we play our cards right and gain the trust from Shinki then we'll be straight.
I'll do anything, KILL anything, to serve under a goddess like Shinki...
-
Lets go with "if I ended up in gensokyo somehow".
First I'd go through comp withdraw, then touhou, then nicotine, then alcohol.
If i figured I was somehow in said place I'd probably head towards the bamboo thicket till i figured out wtf to do. Seems like the safest place. =/
If by some miracle I somehow ended up in the human village I'd probably adapt for a bit, then see if i could get kiene to teach me a little danmaku, and maybe some of thems others if i catch them visiting the village.
After all didnt Marisa get that way through hard work? :V
But even with that said, unless I was at shrinemaiden/magician level most youkai > Me
I mean...seriously?
Not even gonna go there.

Word, man. Fully supporting you.
But when I look at the last few stages of TH12 and TH5, Makai seems to look like some psychedelic dimension full of floating, rune shaped masses. Yes, it's unbelievably beautiful, but how do we get through it? We can't fly after all, and I don't think it be a nice experience to endlessly fall through a dimensional vortex. Some areas do look a bit more natural though.

I always thought that nothing physical works on Youkai. So you either have to be a youkai or know magic to even stand a chance outside the human village.

Oni strength. Each of the fighting games.
Really, Why the hell would they be completely impervious to physical damage? Ghosts, Sure. But jesus, Its not like they have no corporal form. I imagine they're stronger than normal humans and could take a lot, but a steam roller on them would still do something.
-
steam roller
I was going to do a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure joke. But instead, I thought of the fact that people definitely take damage when hit by trains, as demonstrated by Yukari.
Anyway... How would I survive? I don't know. I'd need some tech, I'm a nerd and a researcher at heart. A PDA, a netbook with a few spare laptops, and some form of self defense. I've never fought before in my life (and I'm 20 :V) so I have no clue how to use swords, guns, or anything else. But because of my high creativity and other mental traits, I'd do some awesome magic if I could learn.
If I was nowhere near civilization, I'd try a few times very quickly to do simple magic/danmaku. If I fail, lrn2stealth until I find something/someone who can help and won't want to eat me.
If I were an RPG character, I'd have awesome mind-related stats but luck and strength in the negatives. I'd probably end up somewhere I really don't want to be. So I'm going to assume I'll stumble across Yuka. Hopefully my people skills can help me out a little (yeah right) and let me serve her in her mansion. Hopefully someone there can teach me how to do a little magic and fly. I'd be able to fly fast but walk so very slow, so escape isn't a good idea. Assuming I haven't been eaten, ask permission to leave every once in a while (but not too often, as to not anger Yuka) until I'm freed; have someone escort me to the human viliage and probably live an uneventful life... and start solving (or at least investigating) incidents as soon as I'm good enough to defend myself (I'm nosy and curious).
-
You've all gotta remember - most of the time, people like Yuka aren't actually gonna kill you on sight.
If you ran across Yuka, she'd probably just look at you, blink, twirl her parasol a little, then continue on her way.
Assuming you're not stomping on sunflowers or summat.
Tracking down Yukari would actually be a good idea - if you can hang around long enough for her to wake up, she may actually be so terribly amused by your request to actually go ahead and Yukari Hax you into Youkaidom, just so she can see what the outcome is.
On top of that, I reckon Reimu would actually help you back to the human village on sheer principle of being a shrine maiden - she's lazy, but not callous. Theorycrafting here - she's liable to grumble and complain about having to walk you alllllllll the way there and then go allllllllllll the way back to her shrine, but she'll do it anyways.
Of course, I'd still be a precognitive youkai with chess-theme bullets and the ability to screw with peoples heads.
-

According to PMISS, You do actually go to the shrine to get the hell out of there. If you survive.

We're not actually worrying about Yuka, We're worrying about Rumia and the such. Youkai DO eat humans, and while the strong ones may not care, we're definitely not fit to fight a youkai of weak calibur. Survival may even come from hunting for a strong one.

I've changed my plan to the following:
METAL TOAST SOLID
Pre-mission requirements: Find yukari, obtain the power, and hopefully lifespan, of a satori. (considering how i would most likely enter gensyoko, she'd be obliged - although reluctant considering my choice of power. This will aid in her possibly simply tossing me underground)
Mission: Find the entrance to the underground. If it's sealed, take side quest "bug yukari to let you in, because you'd be nothing but a pain in her but while above ground, using the satoriness to aid your case". Avoid all enemies including the bridge troll, bucket hobo, and spider, keeping quiet and polite if you encounter anyone (the excact opposite of this starts most boss battles). Live underground, obtain own underground palace. Be neighbours with satori.
Main goal: Destroy the hell raven, a creature able to cause nuclear explosions at the snap of a finger, in order to drop the overall temperature of the underground and also get rid of an annoyingly dangerous character.
Items required: Cardboard box.

I don't think you'd score points with Satori by killing one her pets.... if she really hated Okuu she would have destroyed her long ago, or just given her to the Moriya's. That's actually a better choice than destroying her. The Moriya's and Kappa's want that nuclear power after all.
Another required item would be a towel. It's omnifunctional. Every hitchhiker/transdimensional traveler knows this.

I'm not one to plug, But I motion to a very very ground zero Underground I know. :V

Makai is surrounded by Border Space (at least as shown in TH5, I haven't played UFO to know if it's still there) and if my theory is correct said space is most likely an immense void similar to outer space but lacking the vaccuum quality which allows Reimu and the others to pass through there unharmed (unless they use magic or something to 'breathe'). On top of that there's Luize, who practically lives in said space given her avid desire to travel. If luck is on our side we might run into her (provided we get past Sara), given how polite Luize is she'll more than likely help us reach Makai safely if we show her we're not a threat despite being outsiders.
However this is going purely on luck, which is something we can't fully rely on in a realm that has things that can easily kill you 5 ways before you can hit the ground. My only guess is that, if Sara let's us through we can ask her to fly us through Border Space to Makai, if not we'll have to construct some form of contraption to allow us to travel between Gensokyo and Makai unscathed...

Hmm choices choices.
I'm quite mechanically minded so If i happen to be a powerless human, I think I'd end up running a mill or something by a river. If i had some understanding of magic and power, maybe I would attempt to make magical items there? I think it'd be a nice life ;D Probably have to be near a source of water of course, so probably downhill from the youkai mountain or somewhere in the forest. Which cant be all too bad to have marisa as a neighbor. Long as the doors are well secured, anyway.
If I had some kinda power, I'd love manipulation of mechanical items, To change there form and function. It'd be interesting to turn a clocks gears into a doll of sorts to attack with. (Or if you find a bigger clock, like the one at SDM... fun times begin) And I'd probably end up carrying bags of screws incase theres nothing i can abuse around the area. Would probably get on well with nitori - or find her particularly easy to beat.
If I was gonna suck up to anyone, It'd be Utsuho... I just think that power should so be used to levitate a flying shrine. Of course there is the minor problem that she is pretty much impossible to meet lol.
