Um...ohyegodswhat.
I tried Shuuso Gyoku.
Mei & Mai almost made me game over the first time.
Second time I just decided to go and 3cc'd it. Barely.
...wow. This game is vicious.
A couple questions and comments:
First, VIVIT is adorable.
Second, how the hell do lives work in this game? Do you only get three lives, plus the starting 3? And how do bombs work? What's the default for lives and bombs? What are you supposed to have every life?
Third, AAAGGHGHGAGHAGGHHHH
Fourth, how do deathbombs work? Does the game kill you AND take a bomb? Because that's what it looked like. Yes, it does.
Fifth, goddamnit extra stage with orange bullets on an orange background I can't see anything damnit
-
Gates sucks because the BG makes it really hard for me to see any blue bullets he fires in a certain phase. As in, physically hard, and I actually want to look away from the screen at that phase.
Oh, and Mei and Mai are surprising the first time. =V
First: Yes
Second: There are EXTENDS, but don't expect Touhou amounts
Third: Yes
Fourth: Don't deathbomb you chump
Fifth: Almost the whole extra stage is streaming. Learn it, and it'll be trivial outside of "Orange Grid" part, which can be restart spammed.

At what values? How many? Is it worth it to supergraze as much as possible? (It would really help if I knew exactly where VIVIT's hitbox was...)

Aaaaand the midboss...care to help with that?

Indeed.

Default lives are three, just like in Touhou, and you get two bombs each life. There are three 1-up drops (2, 5, 6) and two bomb drops (1, 3). There aren't any score/point-item extends in this game (or any Seihou game for that matter). So that's 6 lives and 14 bombs alltogether. Compare to EoSD's 9 lives and 30 bombs.
Third, AAAGGHGHGAGHAGGHHHH
Save that for when you see Lunatic Marie at Max Rank... if you decide to go that far.

First pattern is simple streaming. You can start in the bottom center and stand still during the first laser dive for some shotgun/graze. Second is micrododging in the center of the screen (the lasers are aimed away from you). The third is just Blazing Wheel, but shorter and with a laser thrown in because this game just fucking loves lasers. It's way easier than it seems; the speed of the waves goes perfectly with VIVIT's unfocused speed, and the attack is unaffected by rank. Just practice it a bit.
-
OK, up to a 2cc.
Funnily enough, I can perfect VIVIT's second form and one-bomb her third. It's her first that usually kills me, at least once, frequently twice.
How does power work? Do you get it for enemies killed, or the star orbs? Or are those just point items? And when they shoot out stars when you get them, that just means you've got grazes on the counter and has no other effect, right?

Is that on Lunatic? If so, that's really good for your second day playing. Go for the 1cc.
VIVIT's first form has four sets of attacks, each one mimicking one of the first four bosses' patterns. She cycles through each set randomly, but the attacks within each set always come in the same order. Most of the attacks are fairly easy except for the red/blue flower pattern and the laser spread (those two are both fucking brutal though).

I'm pretty sure the power goes up by itself; nothing you do makes it go up faster, and dying doesn't make it go down. If I remember correctly, it maxes out around the beginning of stage 3. The star items are only for points as far as I know.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAno.
...Normal.
Lunatic SG...is a LONG way off. I mean, how many people have done that besides you?
Also, WTF EXTRA MIDBOSS SPARK
THAT IS NOT DODGABLE
GRAAAH

The only reason that no one else has done it is because hardly anyone gives the game a chance. It's a bit harder than most Touhou games, but it's not that much harder. You just gotta plan the bombs.
-
So I tried Lunatic.
If I'd gotten ANY BOMBS OFF AT ALL on the last two continues, maybe. The game is largely unchanged until Stage 4 in terms of difficulty. I did horribly on Marie, but it was made up for by at least a dozen dodges that would have killed Reimu against Erich. Of course, I got to Stage 6 0/0, somehow managed to die TWICE on the SG Cheeto Lasers, then died as the midboss cleared and missed the Extend.
It did not get better from there. I didn't even get to VIVIT's second form.
I could probably 4cc, maybe even 3cc it, if I get any bombs - even deathbombs - off. With a good bit of luck and practice, I could get it down to 2cc. But 1cc will probably come a long long way down the road.
-
Erm...
Lunatic Stage 6 practice run.
...screwed up form 1 twice, almost got away with a single bomb on form 2 but clipped a bullet towards the end...
...and 1-bombed form 3.
Why is VIVIT easier than Marie or Erich?
EDIT: Did it again. Huh. That color-swirl at the beginning is the only really bad attack form 3 has. And I need to dodge the SG cheeto lasers on form 2.
EDIT2: OK...best so far is 1 death 1 bomb on form 1, but I can consistently get forms 2 and 3 down to one bomb each, and I've perfected form 2 a couple times. The only thing stopping a perfect form 3 is that damn color swirl; the gaps are ridiculously tiny.
Most of the attacks are fairly easy except for the red/blue flower pattern and the laser spread (those two are both fucking brutal though).
Speaking of tiny gaps...
On the plus side, grinding SG S6 is possibly even more fun than MoF; it's got 4 tracks instead of 2, and the stage theme is superior, and the attacks are generally fun to dodge (except the above two).
EDIT3: Durr...if I perfect form 2, I'm almost guaranteed to die on form 3 from rank shenanigans. Not good. Incidentally...does bombing affect rank, or is it only dying?

This game makes me suffer. Mainly because i can't make it run at a reasonable framerate.
-
Use half frame rate(30 fps). Shuusou Gyoku has bugs when it comes to certain stuff like that. Ask bofh if you want details and why.
-
You don't want to play the game at 30fps because it makes the game randomly speed up. It's really noticeable when a lot of bullets appear on screen, like the grid section in Extra, the game starts acting really wierd. It's the only reason I don't play with 30fps actually, because playing at full has noticeable input lag. At least, that's what happens with me. Do other people getting different problems?

I have noticed no bugs...and I'm pretty sure I'm running at 60...as I haven't touched anything...

Yeah, it's SG is weird like that. For example, my computer can run UFO at 60 fps fine, yet still randomly slows down on SG. =V
-
That's lame. I really want to try that game out. If just i can get it to work at an optimal speed without too much input lag. Right now it acts like PCB did before i got vsync. I hated PCB back then for just that reason. Youmu was impossible under those circumstances. On normal.
-
I dunno, I'm having no trouble with input lag or the like. Just difficulty. And scarcity of resources.
-
What the hell is this game.
Perfect until the st2 boss, then I die 4 times because I get instalazor'd or tackled.
Mars Matrix was atleast honest with the extreme amounts of rape from the very beginning....but this is just evil :V

Heh heh heh...yeah, Mei and Mai are surprise bosses as much as anything else. Once you learn the pattern, they're 1-bomb.
Gates and Marie, though...rrrrrgh...

the fun part is that the game is all pixel gibberish to me so I can't even properly see the bosses

Hey I was wondering, does anyone know of a way to play SG windowed? I've looked around the settings and such and haven't found anything.
-
Does this game have sound effects? I started playing it and it's just been BGMs ):
-
It's the WAV setting in the Sound/Music menu. Switch it to whatever it isn't.

No such internal configuration is possible, for some bizarre-as-all-hell reason. Use D3DWindower (http://steelowl.wordpress.com/2009/05/21/windowd-gaming-for-any-game/), instead.

How do you make it properly display stuff instead of pixelated garbage :V

Try putting it in 16bit mode instead of 8-bit, that fixed something similar for me (pixel vomit background and the sprites art getting really weird).

I tried it and it seems to work, but just a quick question: is there a way to move the window around, or is it always frozen in one place? This is important.
