I have always wondered why it seems most fan art, voice overs flash and other things show Flandre as being a really young girl and Remilia as being an also young, but older girl...
I think if I had to pin it down Flandre seems like she'd be in the 9-11 age group while Remilia is almost 13-14. What's with that large of an age gap between two vampires who are so close in age? I would think that the difference in 495 and "approximately 500" would be fairly imperceptible for the most part...
Just a curiosity of mine...

According to ZUN's official art, every character in the series is 11 years old.
-
While what drake says holds true. If you look at the zun-art in EoSD, Remilia looks to be much older. I seem to recall the in-game text also refers to Remilia as to being a "young ady" or "young woman" or something to that effect. While Flandre really appears to be the stereotypical definition of loli.
Besides, I'm sure there are Touhou characters below both their ages, and yet ageless in some way, that appear older than both.
Point is, who cares?

ZUN's official art
i'm getting tired of laughing now

According to ZUN's official art, every character in the series is 11 years old.
And according to the sprites in MoF Suwako should be about as tall as Sanae or Aya, but in UNL she ends up being shorter than Cirno, who based on her sprites in every other game didn't even seem short to begin with.
You can't make assumptions based off ZUNart.
/me braces for the incoming "tasofro =/= zun" remarks.
-
She's short and looks like a little girl under the age of ten, but she has wings that span wider than her height, and by looking at her silhouette, she may seem quite large.
She has unusual seven-colored wings, and her hair is a dazzling golden color, but her build and apparent age are similar to that of her older sister, Remilia.
-
Flandre is, allegedly, at least 500 (I think there was a birthday thread for her a while back that was really popular as a social thread, waaaay back before we had CPMC)

Age determining a person's entire personality
More likely than you think. If her body never aged past puberty then she won't have had all those hormonal urges that tend to have quite an impact on personality development.

You people. . . .
~1503 A.D.- Remilia Scarlet's birth
~1508 A.D. - Flandre Scarlet's birth

Don't mess with my lolis!

and hence my story of her sharing the same timeline as Vlad the Impaler is wrong.
Also, Alucard is the father, Y/N?
Reimilia's hands look retarded in Zun Art.
I think of it as being broken, who the heck holds her hands that way?
-
one of the rumours I've heard is that Rumia is really Flandre Scarlet without the hairpiece instead of Ex Rumia or whatever is sealed by her hairpiece.
but yeah the way I think of Flan vs Remi is that they are five years apart in both physically and mentally on a human scale , maybe half being Rumia is regressing her mind ?

To the question of "Who cares..." I would think it would be obvious that I care since I asked the question... thanks for noticing.
Anyway, I see nothing in the games or descriptions that I have read that would indicate that Flandre is anymore a "little girl" than Remilia is. I more or less see them as being identical in "age" given their linage. I just think Flandre would have stunted social development from living confined so long.

that came across wrong I'm sorry. I just mean that the nature of thousands of fans drawing them based on their own opinion as to what the character looks like without really having an official guideline (other than zun-art, which I think everyone takes with a grain of salt anyway) makes it near-impossible to really state why something happens. The reason why is different for every artist who draws the two.
The truth is the very first artists, before Touhou was as popular as it is now probably had as much power in modeling what each character looked like as Zun. I don't know what they were thinking when they made their picturs, but as I said, likely influences were how the Zun-art for each character really makes them appear to be much older/younger than each other.
Another possibility is the music. Remi has sort of a classy tune, while Flandre's definately has a childish sound to it. Whatever the reasons were, I highly doubt it has anything to do with some sort of story involvement however.
-
That is a rather good answer, an angle I hadn't really considered too well. The music for each character is about as unique as the characters themselves.
Well, that's probably as good as I can get on it due to the nature of the beast, so thank you for that at least. :)

I think you have hitten the nail pretty good on the head if you base it on music with characters. Probably only "legimate" way of making fanon somewhat "logical" ( lolDrake :X )
Flan has indeed childish wacky music and Remilia has that classy lady tune. Also if you read up Flan's PMiSS you can see she is respecting her elder sister even if she being docile time to time.

I can't decide who has the more retarded hands: Remilia or Shou. Well, I guess in Shou's case, it would just be her left hand, but still.. :V

UNL isn't a great example because Suwako isn't actually that short in UNL; she just spends most of her time crouching. She's actually only a little bit shorter than Meiling, which is one of the tallest of the sprites.

It doesn't help that ZUN mentions U.N Owen being a loli-tastic melody in the music room (ロリっぽい in the Japanese, which yes, pretty much means loli-tastic)

Pfft, she's on her tiptoes.
Besides, she's a god. She can look however she damn well pleases.
-
If you noticed, BOTH are on their tiptoes.
-
Meiling, however is braced. She's taller than Suwako, but not by much.

LOL. then that makes Sakuya one busty 11 year old.
