I remember reading on wikipedia that this game had yet to be beaten. Well, here it is. Someone went through god mode... without dying... in Mushihimesama Futari. >:O

Speaking of which, it is supposed to be ported to 360. If he's playing this on a 360 and it's slowing that much, it's pretty scary.

Mushihimesama Futari has a smaller hitbox than Touhou.

Mushihimesama Futari is also ludicrously more difficult than Touhou could ever think of being. If you'll notice it really isn't actually possible to dodge that final pattern. You just need to get there with enough resources to kill the boss.

Touhou is designed to have every attack dodgeable if you know the pattern or have enough twitch skill.

Cave games are arcade games designed to get you to spend money.

Spoiler: The boss KNOWS you can't look up properly.... After a couple of missions I said "screw this" and went Hard Mode on Prime3, all fine, picked up every single power up and everything... never finished the game...

The only thing I can possibly think of which gets my adrenaline going is highly skilled players in Bomberman Live. I'm currently rank 8 on the Bomberman Live leaderboard, although meaningless, it should tell you that I play the game a lot. Here's some of the people which I've played with before: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6532116 - particularly shimonohashi, PlusYukihiro and midnight are exceptionally skilled. I frequently play with shimonohashi and ht taktaknet, and they're both fun to play against.

As for shmups, no bosses really make me go "holy shit" except for maybe the final attack in ESPGaluda. Unless I'm playing with a stick, in which case, everything becomes extremely difficult and I have a difficult time doing basic things which I can normally pass with a Saturn pad. Of course this isn't to say that I don't die to other things in this or other games, but they don't have any wow factor to them.

Not only that, but he doesn't attack during the invincibility period. There are a lot of things going on this video which most people here won't be able to understand, like the bullet eating at the beginning.

Kinda shiny. I found the shield/bomb mechanic thing interesting, but the final attack was really BS when the player apparently ran out of those.
Still it's one of the things that make me understand how the beauty of touhou makes a difference for me in terms of addiction. Though it looks quite cool, those graphics and music don't attract me in the least meaning there's a very low chance I'll ever get to try something like that...

Although not the most difficult boss in the world by anyone's count, I still regard the final fight of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqGbQBidiQQ) as one of the best presented bosses in gaming.  I certainly remember saying "HOLY CRAP!!!"

I don't think it really counts since that's a story battle.  Then when you fight him the next few times he becomes laughable.  Actually, the boss that made me go OHSHI- even more was Id, especially after I realised that he was dodging freakin' everything.

I'd definitely recommend the poorly but accurately named Ultimate Dracula from Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness.  Unfortunately, the only Youtube I can find of him is of him getting destroyed by an elite player.

Id was fortunately somewhat slower than some other bosses. Speed is the true power in the game. Usually.

Ultraman is in Radiant Silvergun?

I've honestly never played RSG, despite shmups being my favorite genre. It doesn't help that I don't have a Saturn, can't run Saturn emulation, and the game costs $200.

The World Eaters (mostly just Feinne though, since she's really the only one that's leveled in the 1000 area, Thuris and Raksha just have insane stats for their level).

Death Head Gamma counts too, I had to kill all of his/it's cronies just so I could get his/it's level down to 60 and even THEN I had to gang up on him to take'em out.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sinistar.

Sinistar makes me "HOLY SHIT FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" whenever he flies across the screen at 2348134141 m/s. That is, if he hasn't EATEN ME ALIVE first.

I remember the first time I played the original Sinistar in an arcade; I totally freaked out when that happened.

When I first encountered the bosses in Xamayon castle during the last time I played Shining Sword or something like that... I entered without preparing for an epic fight, first strike stoned and I was left completely open to all attacks.

3 bosses, Stone, Earth, and Destroyer or something like that... damn, that was a shocker.

one freezes you, one stones you, and one hammers you with a sledgehammer.

Another one for the books.

The Ice Queen from Dark Cloud. While she may not look like much when you see her, once the battle starts it's one hell of a fight just to stay alive. Most people can't even fight her legitly either, and end up spamming Fire Gems. It's just an onslaught of attack after attack. It's no help that you'll freeze constantly either.

So I was playing Super Mario RPG. I completed it fully, had everything I needed. Everything BUT that door on Monstrotown (sp?). Until I opened it one day, and suddenly...

Also, at least two bosses from Battle Moon Wars provoked a "what the HELL!?" reaction from me.

Firstly... The party has cornered Roa and SHIKI.  They tell them there's nowhere to run, they're surrounded, and there's no way they can beat all of them.  And then... Roa and SHIKI do the goddamn Fusion Dance, resulting in RoSHIaKI, the half-ninja half-Gundam.  I couldn't make this up if I tried.  The first time I saw it, I literally just stared at my screen for several minutes before it sunk in fully.  Too bad he was actually really easy to beat, but still... That one took me by surprise.

And then there was Gilgamesh.  I expected Gate of Babylon.  I was prepared for Enuma Elish.  What I didn't see coming was Gil putting on a giant golden gauntlet so he could wield the Goldion Hammer.  Seriously.

I almost completely forgot about that nightmare fuel. During one of my port vists in Thailand, I purchased a copy of Metroid Fusion and the cartridge lagged during that fight so much I couldn't fight it properly. Still, the slowed down music and green stuff mixed with the already slow action.... UGH!

I guess another good choice was me running into Baal for the first time. That thing was just insane unless you did some massive level grinding.

It is funny, in MHP2ndG, Monoblos is really nothing compared to something like, say, Narugakaruga.

Nope not really everything In newer Monster Hunters kind of got nerfed but it's still sometimes difficult when playing offline. I is waiting on number 3. Fighting underwater looks like a pain in the butt, but at least its better than fishing for Plesioths.

Diadra Empty's bosses surely make you scream HOLY CRAP every time they start spewing bullets. The sheer difference in size and scale also helps. And that sensation only goes up until you reach Extra Level Chapters 4 and 5. You usually need a jaw reconstruction after that.

Pretty much the entirety of Hellsinker final bosses are made of WTF and Holy Crap but the "Karma Compressor System named 'Garland'"+Lost Property 771 and the Quadruple Ones take the cake. So awesome it breaks the game interface in a Suika fashion.

my jaw dropped on chapter 8 each time there was another boss form because I already wasted all my Continues and had only 1 life bar left

Yeah, Cubia was a pain in the axe. It didn't help that I was expecting Tarvos at the time, either.
 
Of course, now that I'm ON Tarvos, I hate the impaled serpent very, very much. Immunity-swapping, Nice Boat-load of hits required to Data Drain, and on top of that . . . 1HKO. It has a 1HKO cinematic.
 
Also, not quite a boss and not NEARLY the same game . . . my first time fighting Zappa in GGXX (arcade).
 
I was completely unprepared for Raou to pop up out of nowhere and start OWNING ME TO DEATH. Now I know to kill him with speed, but that first time is definitely disconcerting.

The one final boss that made the strongest impression on me? Rimsala from Arcana. Because I played that when it was new, and Rimsala was frickin' impressive graphically back then. Not to mention she made interesting use of the game's whole card motif, which was cool as hell.

Also: The first time I met Utsuho's final spellcard lead to quite a good deal of panicking. As well as Yuyuko's. Because when first beat Yuyuko's penultimate spellcard, it thought it was over. I exhaled, then tried to read the text. Then BAM! and I died moments later.

Lavos. Specifically, the cutscene if you lose. High octane nightmare fuel.

Touhou related: I literally screamed when I saw Superhuman "Byakuren Hijiri" for the first time. I wasn't expecting a boss to move that fast. Also VoWG and Subterranean Cucumber, which looks near impossible.

The Hydra from God of War 1. Having not heard of the game before, I asked the guy playing if it was the final boss (it's the first boss).

Atolm's last form in Panzer Dragoon Saga. A dragon with 10 built in laser cannons.

Awakened Alma from Ninja Gaiden.

Any of the World Eaters of Soul Nomad, although Raksha had the most effect, especially leading up to his revival...lost my shit during the fight and suffered lasting effects in my main fighting Squad AFTER the fight.

Then came the final boss...and the fight itself. Seriously, Drazil was a total mindfuck of a world.

This isn't exactly the same but Blizzetta from Twilight Princess. 
She comes out of nowhere with her, "NOT TAKE MIRROR!" and her face... and then she starts dropping enormous blocks of ice on you.
It wasn't a hard fight, just entirely unexpected, she seemed like such a friendly creepy, armless, fluffy, snow-thing.

KH!Sephiroth was undoubtedly the most difficult thing I've ever had to do in an Action RPG.

I'd probably have an easier time against it by now, but back then that boss fight was just epic. Even managed to beat the 13-ship Mode in Extra, which at the time was something really difficult for me (and it gives you an extra bit of story after the credits).

The last series of bosses from Ninja Gaiden III (NES) was a bit shocking, but mostly because I'd be like "Oh wait, ANOTHER boss?!" after the second battle (IIRC).

Meganada from DDS2.  It has a form where it's immune to all magic and another form where it's immune to all physical and it has a couple of big ass attacks that take a turn to charge and then fire.  And when you get him in the red he starts switching between forms and using the attacks in rapid succession.  I hate hate hate hate hate him!

Majora's Mask...

Every boss. That game was beautiful. Intense. Crazy difficulty. (Not so difficult for me IMO) Yet, I enjoyed every single bit of it.

You guys get the "HOLY CRAP" from the bosses in your games, I get the "HOLY CRAP" factor from everything in this game... I cried manly tears upon completion because when you replay a game, even if 20 times, it is not as good as the first time.

Also, Culex from Super Mario RPG. What the hell was th--- *party dead*

Thought it was more annoying than hard.
It killed Wakka, and took Tidus down to 300/2700 and Auron down to 15/4600.
Every single time.
Tidus is a better tank than Auron sometimes

And what do you mean, Cheer stacks?

(I never went into The Henne Mines II. Murderous enemies. I'm Lv. 62 and almost killed Yiazmat though)

Cheer stacks up to 5 times and it can bypass the 255 cap.
also Total Annihilation hits random targets with the rockets, defence and magic defence are almost irrelevant as most stuff does too much damage

I beat that battle by getting everyone's Overdrive gauges up to maximum, then spammed them.

@MisterSanity: There's a glitch that lets you make enemies disappear without fighting them.

Yes, I know. I've never bothered myself to pull it off though.

I beat that battle because Auron nukes enemies hard
Turns out the battle formula has "strength cubed" in it. Kimahri's 35 strength does 800 damage while Auron's 59 Strength deals >6,000.
