Title: Help with phantasmagoria of flower view?
Post by: Cabble on October 31, 2009, 05:13:59 PM
I need some help with PoFV. I tried reading touhouwiki, but it didn't help :/

I'm just trying to 1cc it, and I don't know what alot of things do.

Here is my latest replay:

Also, how do you unlock more characters?

To unlock more characters, you have to clear it with the characters you already have unlocked. I don't think it has to be a 1cc, and Easy mode works just fine.

Something I noticed right off the bat is that you don't seem to be using the Focus function which makes you move slower for more precise movements. Press and hold the Shift-key to activate it. Also, you see those flapping things that appear on the screen? When in focused mode you'll get a dark field around/in front of your character. If you touch said flapping things with that field you'll "activate" them, causing them to float slowly upwards in a ball shape. If you shoot it in this state, the blast will remove any small pellet-bullets (the very most basic bullets, the red and blue ones) in the direct vicinity.

Aside from focusing, I'd simply advice you to play the game some more. The more you do, the better you'll become. :)

I tend not to use focus as it just hurts my finger too much spamming z and holding shift.

Nevertheless, you will need to use the focus more if you wish to get much further. How do you usually keep your hand when playing the game? I do it with my ring or middle finger pressing down Shift while the index finger taps Z and so far I haven't been feeling any pain from it. :)

That's what I do too.

Ok so I tried using cirno. Lost no lives until Aya, where I had to use a continue and died once. Yuka was a breeze, and I sped through her!

...

Fuck you shikieiki

She had half a life left and I was at full. If i died, that was it. I ended up spamming 3 fairies and a boss in a row. Then shikieiki summons almost 6 hotdog portals, a boss, and 3 fairy attacks.

Then lily appears.

...

Also how do you summon EX attacks more often?

Kill tons of spirits. If a boss or Lily dies and an EX power-up drops, grab it to dump a ton on your enemy's side of the field.

Therein lies the problem.

Go to Options and swap your control type (it should be one of "slow" and "charge" now; change it to whatever it isn't now).

Now you can hold Z for rapid fire AND focus at the same time, and hold Shift to charge power.
Mind, this means you will always have your scope out and cannot fire without focusing, but you should definitely be able to live with that.

Not true.

This is the control type I use, and you can simply not focus by tapping, identical to how with the default setup you don't charge by tapping.

The assumption behind the "will always have your scope out" was that you would be holding the shot button down.
But you're right about the tapping.  (I wouldn't know tbh; I use this shot type to get AWAY from tapping)
