Post your favorite game or games.
Personally, I don't have a single favorite. Each genre is different enough that I can't compare favorites between genres. However I do have a favorite in each genre.
Modern 2d fighter: Super Smash Bros Brawl
Retro 2d fighter: Super Street Fighter II, The New Challengers
3d fighter: Soul Calibur III
Modern fighter based on an anime: Evangelion Battle Orchestra
Retro fighter based on an anime: Gundam Wing, Endless Duel and Digimon Rumble Arena 1 (they tie for favorite)
PC fighter: Mugen (and I got a ton of Touhou characters on it + lots o' general anime)
Modern FPS: Halo 3
Retro FPS: Duke Nukem 3d
Modern platformer: Super Mario 64
Retro platformer: Super Mario World
PC platformer: Duke Nukem 2 (episode 1)
Modern RPG: none
Retro RPG: Super Mario RPG
Modern Adventure game: The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time (not really modern, but nothing after was ever better)
Retro adventure game: The Legend of Zelda, A Link to The Past
-
A game in which i got sunburnt just by going out to piledrive the immortals (darn, i'm pale): Boktai, and it's sequels
Making use of 100% of your keyboard and then some: Freespace 2
Wing damage: Starfox (SNES)
manly game: Touhou everything.
RpG/adventure: Pokemon gold for GBA.
Fighter: Touhou IAMPSWRUNL
And that's it.
-
Mostly RPGs since that's all I've played before Touhou.
Uhh.....Star Ocean 3, Valkyrie Profile 2(would totally play even 1 but no PSP), Tales of Symphonia(would play others but Namco hates PAL), out of FFs probably X-2 because of the battle system.
Vagrant Story was also fun :V
And pokemons. But the games are hard to find here now and only my Crystal and Yellow are still alive(had all 3, G/S/C but batteries died)
-
I have a favorite series in a few genres myself:
Real-time combat RPGs: The Tales series is generally aweomse
Turn-based combat RPGs: Atelier Iris/Mana Khemia/Ar Tonelico (all of these series. Not the second Ar Tonelico game though...) Basically just about anything from Gust.
Tactical RPGs: Fire Emblem
Shoot 'em ups: Touhou, obviously (only ones I've even played)
FPS: The Metroid Prime games are the only ones of this genre I've played and liked honestly =/
-
Let me add that my favorite STG is Tyrian 2000.
Fighter: Touhou IAMPSWRUNL
IaMP = Immaterial and Missing Power
SWR = Scarlet Weather Rhapsody
UNL = ??????????

(?-`).。oO( I don't understand how some of those can be considered 'genres'... )
Anyway, let's see. My favorite game overall is Mushihimesama. I pretty much only play arcade games and some handheld games these days, with the occasional FPS and RPG here and there.
What else...
Pretty much any game by CAVE and Psikyo
Rhythm Heaven
Trauma Center series
Bubble Bobble/Bubble Symphony/Bubble Memories
Touhou, obviously
The Legend of Zelda (NES) (none of the others can really compare.)
Pretty much any Pre-N64 Kirby game
Any Final Fantasy before the garbage that is FFVII
Kingdom Hearts
Etrian Odyssey
Super Mario RPG
EarthBound/Mother 2
Any of the non-spinoff Pok?mon games
Any of x.x's shooters or Pixel's games
and these are a few of my favorite things~♪

Also Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim and TMNT3 for the original gameboy.

I still like the Touhou games even if I'm only okay at them.
*Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (not the DS spin-off, please)
*All of the "mainline" Kirby games were decent IMO, although I'm told Squeak Squad was a disappointment.
*Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 (the third was kind of lackluster)
*Fire Emblem 9
*Super Mario 64
*Paper Mario 1000 (not Super Paper Mario, please)
*I'm torn between the later two Smash games.
*Chrono Trigger
*Zelda: Majora's Mask
*Banjo-Kazooie
Those are all the ones I can think of that offhand that I would recommend as outstanding.
-
Interesting. Of the Kirby games, the only one I liked was Kirby64.
I never really liked that one or any of the ones after it.
-
Touhou
Cel Damage
Jet Set Radio Future (holy shit it's fucking awesome)
Rock Band 2/The Beatles
DDR/ITG2

Call of Duty 2
Team Fortress 2
LoZ: OoT/MM/Twilight Princess
Goldeneye N64
Super Mario 64
Star Fox 64
Tony Hawk 2x, 4, Underground.
I think I have more, but Cel Damage and JSRF are definitely under-appreciated.
-

RTS: Age of Empires 2
Action: Metal Slug 2
Puzzle: Tetris
Racing: Track Mania/Mario Kart 64

Touhou
Doom- The only FPS I have ever played. =)
Trauma Center
Dodonpachi and hopefully the other cave shooters, even though I dislike all the bosses in Dodonpachi- with the exception of Hibachi, I haven't fought him yet.
Hopefully some of the games on the PS2, once I get that swap magic.
Yea... you can tell I don't play video games much.

The greatest game ever made: Captain Novolin
http://www.letsplayarchive.com/ Seriously, check this shit out right now. :V
Big fan of the Mother/ Earthbound games, especially Mother 3.
The first three Silent Hill games, not the crap that came after it.
Ninja Gaiden Black, haven't played Sigma and the sequel just isn't as good.
The old obscure Sierra adventure games (remember when Sierra was good?), like shivers and Gabriel Knight.
Half Life 2 with the various modifications made for it.
Timesplitters: Future Perfect, love this game.
Various Indie Games, like Cave Story and Iji.
What's Touhou? :V
-

-
2D Fighters
Jet Set Radio Future
Persona games
That's it.
I'm lame.
-
There are a lot more Mother fans in here than I expected.
RPG - EarthBound and Mother 3. Strangely enchanting setting, quirky characters and just really fun and funny. I play EarthBound every year once. Mother 3 was a lot more serious, but I really liked it as well.
SRPG - FF Tactics (All of them). I really liked all the ways you could customize your characters. It's a very addicting process.
Okami - Beautiful art. Beautiful atmosphere. Favorite adventure game.
Starcraft - I'm terrible at this but we had fun times doing massive 4v4 games.
Cloud (http://intihuatani.usc.edu/cloud/) - Mostly as a relaxing game.
Perfect Cherry Blossom - Only Touhou game that I can decently play. :/
-

Action Adventure RPG: Okami tied with the Kingdom Hearts series
MMORPG What Should Be a Real, Non MMO RPG: World of Warcraft (I mean, I love the game, but I hate those fags, why I can't do a Raid ALONE???)
Old Regular Shmup: Tyrian (the original one; I mean really, Tyrian was my Childhood, I wouldn't be here without that)
Danmaku Shmup: Touhou (No way, really?? Haven't guessed. SA is my fav, and the only one where I can't 1cc Normal)
Real-Time Strategy: Warcraft 2, Starcraft and the Command & Conquer series
Metal Slug-like I-Blow-Up-Everything Action: Metal Slug (duh)

That's a really fun game, too. I can't believe I forgot about it.
-
I love the music of Triggerheart Exelica's first stage.
I'd like the game more if I could figure out the fucking anchor mechanism. :V
-
I'd like the game more if I could figure out the fucking anchor mechanism. :V
That's what I hate about the game too... The worst part is, it's absolutely essential for a high score.

-
I'm a wimp and I have it set to spin automatically. :P
-
It becomes more reflex-oriented than focus-oriented, which works well for me. :P Still, that guy's score is crazy. I only get about 15,000,000 in the first stage, on a good run.
-

Best music in Triggerheart Exelica IMO. The anchor was a pain in the ass to use, though I could usually get just enough medals to face what's-her-name on Stages 1/3.
