Just wondering how does everyone play.
Windowed 640x480 for me, since I can see almost the entire screen at once.
-
Fullscreen for me! ;D
-
Fullscreen. For me, bigger screen filled is nice for focus-grazing through small-spaced patterns.
For the resolution (SA and UFO, right?), it's always 640x480, just to stick with the default pixels (though I really can't play SA and UFO under a Win98 system - I just rent a WinXP on a NetCafe).
I'd appreciate the screen much more if I were playing at like 5-6 meters away from it, just like how console games are played in TV (comboed with joypad usage), for the same reason of seeing the entire screen with quick eye focus change.
... Playing like this feels much different from playing windowed with 1meter-ish distance, BTW.
-
Fullscreen when playing seriously, windowed when playing for fun.
-
The only games I ever use seriously use windowed in are the PC-98 games. Recently I've started using Full-Screen for them sometimes, but then the shots become incredibly distracting against certain backrounds...
LLS Fullscreen+ReimuB+post-midboss Stage 2... AUUUUGH, THANK GOD THE BULLETS ARE AIMED, can't see shit captain
-
I don't even want to remember what happened after I played MoF windowed for two hours (Stage 6 Lunatic + Extra).
VoWG and Froggy Braves the Elements brutally rapes your eyes =/

wait
I've NEVER played fullscreen
period
VoWG didn't hurt my eyes at all.....1 round of Dodonpachi is 10 times worse.
Maybe I'll play better once I switch to fullscreen. :V
-
Windowed, on a 1440x900 widescreen monitor.
You've got to try it >_>
-
I never play windowed. Watching an entire screen when playing a shooting game is suicide. My strategy for playing involves shutting out stuff that doesn't matter and relying a little more on reflex than foresight. *shrug*
-
I've NEVER played fullscreen
holy hell man
when i first got the games i didn't realize there was a fullscreen mode, but when i found out i was all over that shit.
-
The first game I got was Mountain of Faith, and the version I had was fullscreen by default. When I discovered windowed mode I was ecstatic. It's how I play all of them.
I might give fullscreen a day in court, though, and see if my gameplay improves.
-
Looking back, I should stop complaining about BoWaP and start playing fullscreen :V
-
Fullscreen, though on the newer games I play windowed to reduce the terrible lag I get in them by a bit.
-
Windowed with a high resolution, because I have a wide screen monitor.
-
Sometimes I feel like it's kind of cheating when I'm playing over 640x480 resolution.
But I find myself dodging some things better on 960x720 windowed like Miracle Fruit (gone from ~10% capture rate to being able to capture it most of the time @_@!), so I'm using 960x720 all the time on SA/UFO XD.
-
I always play fullscreen as well. However when i'm playing netplay games I window (PoFV, SWR/UNL) so i can chat with my partner and whatnot.
-
I have no choice but to play the games in fullscreen, because for some reason the games actually have trouble running in windowed mode on my comp. Even if I did, I'd always go fullscreen.
-
I've always played fullscreen, but I discovered that I did better when playing windowed PoDD last night. It could just have been that I needed a warm-up or to get the game mechanics down, but I'm gonna experiment with it a little bit.
-
Jeez people. Windowed, and either Vsync'd or Sizer'd to 960x720.
-
Fullscreen except for SWR(S) and for recording the PC-98 games.
-
Maxed for windows games and windowed for pc-98.
I haven't learned how to max pc-98 games yet.
-
I haven't learned how to max pc-98 games yet.
Alt+Enter, unless you've got a totally different emulator...
-
Always fullscreen, despite that since I have a 1440x900 monitor everything gets stretched sideways. :V
-
960x720 seems like the best option for me :V
Switching back to 640x480 made me wonder how the hell did I manage to play it like that.
-
I use fullscreen most of the time and change my resolution when I'm using windowed. The only time I use windowed mode is when I play SA or UFO due to the incredible amount of lag I get from both of them.
-
Fullscreen when I know I won't be interupted. Windowed when I might be interupted.
-
I never play windowed, except when before I knew how to play PC-98 full screen (*shivers at the bad memories of spending weeks beating Evil Eye Sigma windowed*). The gaps look nonexistent when you play that way.

Fullscreen looks stretched and ugly on a 16:9 monitor. Windowed, no exceptions.
-
Windowed at my laptops native resolution to eliminate part of the blurring. Still have stretching but it's better than stretching AND blurring.
-
Always fullscreen, despite that since I have a 1440x900 monitor everything gets stretched sideways. :V
Same here. The stretch doesn't bug me in the least, and it's easier to see bullets and gaps when you maximize the size. As beautiful as danmaku can be, I've always been one to place gameplay before aesthetics, and my choice of fullscreen reflects my style.
-
Full screen on a 1920x1200 display, with fixed-aspect ratio scaling enabled to minimize unnecessary stretching. It looks fine to me.
When playing certain 2-D games that have vertical scrolling, in windowed mode, I'll occasionally get this single invisible ripple-like line that travels from the top of the screen to the bottom. I don't know how to fix it.
-
See, my screen doesn't stretch anything because my monitor was made before flat screen monitors were invented. ;)
-
See, my screen doesn't stretch anything because my monitor was made before flat screen monitors were invented. ;)
And this is why I don't like HUGE HUEG monitors.
With that said, I play 640x480 on a 1024x768 resolution. 17-inch LCD IIRC. I like being able to see everything happening at once without moving my eyes too much. This is also why I can survive (some) high-speed attacks relatively well.
-
I have a 1440x900 screen, and I don't even notice the stretching. Everything looks as it should to me.
As a matter of fact, everything looks better in fullscreen, it all looks so smooth when compared to windowed.
-
Fullscreen. It's faster~
-
Always Windowed. My reflexes die when windowed, or on any size larger than 640x480.

??????
I'm always windowed, 6x4. I might go to the other windowed res, but I just don't like fullscreen.
-
Windowed 640x480.
I tried playing fullscreen before (Or any other resolution at that.) and it was not pretty. Aside from the whole thing looking really ugly I started having problems judging distances as well. I also see no reason to switch to any other resolution actually, having such a small window gives the best overview.
-
I play fullscreen, I want the gaps to be as easy to see as possible...
-
??????
:V
I meant when in fullscreen or anything higher.
:V :V :V
-
Fullscreen. Small window screws with my Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. :V
-
full screen on a 1280x800. fixed aspect ratio.
not pretty, but the only people who care about pretty aren't gamers.
windowed mode is for people with tunnel vision.
-
windowed mode is for people with tunnel vision.
I've changed from windowed 640x480 after 4 months :V.....PoFV made me change into fullscreen, rest is 960x720.
-
I knew a guy who played windowed once. He died.
-
Fullscreen, because I like seeing gaps in bullet patterns. All of IN's Last Spells in 6A and 6B in particular are -so- much easier when the screen is stretched.
I tried playing the PC-98 games full-screen, but Anex98 messes up after a while (read: around when Yuka shows up) and the screen starts blinking. Seizuriffic and doesn't let you see the bullets coming toward your face.
If it causes BROFISTs to run at 60FPS I might consider playing UFO windowed.
-
Full screen on a 50" plasma :V
-
Wait, people seriously play windowed?
That sounds to me like your making it unnecessarily hard for yourself. :V
I always play fullscreen, since day 1.
Fullscreen on a 17 inch monitor is pretty ideal for Touhou if you ask me.
I'll try playing windowed later, see how much different it is. :P
-
I prefer to play in fullscreen at all times. Even if some idiot decides to IM me. They can wait, for no man should wait to play Touhou.
-
Windowed 1280x960
Using sizer for earlier games.
Is there something like sizer for Vista ? because I want to introduce a friend at touhou.
-
Fullscreen. My eyesight uncorrected is like 20/400 ._.
-
Fullscreen looks stretched and ugly on a 16:9 monitor. Windowed, no exceptions.
You should change to fixed aspect ratio scaling.
Fullscreen 640x480 for me.
-
i go with the fullscreen better seeing....
-
I'm still not seeing how playing fullscreen stretches or distorts the game in any way.
-
If you have a widescreen monitor and no scaling enabled (no pillarboxing), the game will stretch to fill the entire screen and as a result be wider than it should. I think Touhou is meant for a 4:3 screen? I think it would look okay on a 12:9 display (if there was such a thing), but since the next step up is 16:9, it's got that extra horizontal room to deal with. (I'm not too knowledgeable with this shit so I might be laughably incorrect. :V)
-
Usually I play on fullscreen(1440x900 monitor, so stretching but still great), but if I'm playing PoFV with friends, I'll have it windowed on 960x720. Hurray for Sizer.
Also: what on earth is that thing in jisakujien's post

What Touhou would look like if it had a TATE option. Although I can't tell if it's just a mock image or a hack; probably the former.

Fullscreen because i love it.

Windowed, on a 1440x900 widescreen monitor.

This, except fullscreen, I've only played the games in this so when I try playing in the original aspect ratio it looks weird.

I just captured Legendary Flying Saucer instead of dying 4 times. What.
HOLY SHIT I JUST CAPTURED IT TWICE IN A ROW WTFFFFFFFFFF
EDIT: lol I stretched it out again - died 5 times and deathbombed once
-
http://bygzam.seesaa.net/article/123123010.html
I have no idea how to make it work.

Anyone have instructions on how to use this?

And, after being forced to switch to a computer with a widescreen monitor, I can't play fullscreen any more because of the stretching and the apparent lack of a fixed-aspect ratio scaling option.
Not that it matters, seeing as the bigger monitor is the only way in which this thing is not strictly inferior to my own, and thus I can't play the games at a decent slowdown rate anyway :V
