Title: Can't move diagonally to the left while firing/focused
Post by: Menorah Jams, Pham on October 14, 2009, 01:13:29 AM
I dunno if this is some weird issue specific to Vista 64 - triangles' laptop has it, and my brand new laptop does too.

When I'm playing any Windows Touhou game, and I'm either firing or focused and firing, I can move to the left, up, down, diagonal up-right and down-right, but I cannot diagonal up-left or down-left.  Sony claims that there's no current keyboard updates or such to fix it.

Can't quite seem to find any settings I could change on the keyboard control panel.  The weird thing is that I'm using tons more keys simultaneously, including diagonal arrow keys, playing STALKER and Counter-Strike.

Anyone got any knowledge of this or a fix thereof?

Most laptops are wired oddly. Probably the best solution to your problem.

Ergh.  That's not really a good solution, I'm gonna have to relearn to hit right shift or right control if those'll remap.  :-/

I might as well just learn not to diagonal.  D:

It's not a software issue, your laptop's keyboard just has low rollover.  It means it's internal controller can only register so many keys simultaneously.  It's a very common problem with laptops and very very cheap keyboards.  You'll have to either deal with it, or use a decent external keyboard or a game controller.

The weird thing is I was just playing STALKER earlier - I was holding down W, A, Q, left shift, left control, and I was tapping ] occasionally.  This only happens in Touhou.  O_O

I guess this a good excuse to grab VMWare and set up an XP partition.  Maybe it's the OS?  Who knows.  Worth a shot but I'm open to any tricks that will allow me to move diagonal again, or to avoid using a gamepad.  I prefer the keyboard I guess.

That's because Touhou doesn't use WASD

Because different SETS of keys are set to different controllers within the keyboard.  That's why some key combinations can go really high (Such as holding A and S while using Shift, Space and the arrow keys for other things) just fine, but you can't hold down left, up, shift and Z at the same time.  It's frustrating.  I can't use X when holding Shift, Z and left. :3
