Title: Strange Challenges
Post by: Lopsidation on October 11, 2009, 04:09:32 PM
ITT we post the weirdest Touhou challenges possible.

(Easy) UFO: Dodge the snowflakes in the Music Room until your favorite track loops.
(Variable, Normal-Lunatic+) Kaguya's last Last Spell (any difficulty), Marisa, no focus, never stop firing.
(Lunatic) Heaven and Hell Meltdown from the middle of the screen, no focus. Marisa makes it especially hard.

Doing it in practice mode without TASing I think should count simply for the fact that Utsuho's first 3 cards (And plenty of other cards in the game) basically require completely bombing through. Maybe with a limit set for lives lost on each stage.

Heaven and Hell Meltdown+Hell's Artificial Sun are actually totally doable, and Orin's Stage 6 card has a safespot that isn't hard to find, and can let you capture it if you have at least 3 power. This is a really cool challenge. Replay coming up after I manage to clear Stage 6 in practice.

ReimuC, beat Yamame with 0.4 lives, 1 power. GO'd by fleeing midboss Parsee. (timed out first attack 'cuz I was out of power)

This is actually kinda fun.

Did SA Stage 6 while above PoC with ReimuC. Cleared with 2 lives left. Pretty fun! Messed up Blazing Star and got lazy on the last noncard. Can you safespot Blazing Star where Utsuho shoots the yellow bullets? I know you can on her first card, although you die when she shoots suns.

I also tried using MarisaB; her Metal and Earth shots seem WAY stronger then ReimuC, as well as her bomb. I beat it with her too and saved the replay, but it was far more lazy and less skillful then my ReimuC run, so I didn't upload that one. With MarisaB its much easier to just bomb through the entire thing and not actually try very hard.

8-3, 8-5, 9-4 and EX-5 should be reasonably doable. Not that I'll actually try.

-Beat SA on any difficulty, vertical only. Yes, that means bombing on Kisume.

-Devil Sign "World in Nightmare" after taking a bunch of pictures during the invincible phase.

-Elixir "Mercury Sea" no photo timeout.

-SWR/Hisoutensoku arcade mode 1CC using only one move. (Preferably Patchouli's ↓→ butt slide attack for added silliness)

1cc SA easy while staying above the PoC the entire time.

Stage 2 is the biggest problem (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=5356). Parsee will eat away at your Power and Lives until you can't even capture anything. This leads to loss of Life Fragments, which leads to a quicker death. Stage 3 is certainly interesting though... Guess I'll just do random Stage runs instead  :V

Stage 5 and GOAST WHEELS.

That's already been done before in IaMP. (Sorta/not really, but it's not too big of a challenge.)

I imagine It'd be a lot easier in SWR/UNL because of the super lenient graze times.

Actually, it was (and still is) my best run of Normal. Then again, I bombspammed everything during and after Keine, but that's a different story.

I really should play IN again sometime soon. It's been months since I last attempted a 1CC.

I need to practice EoSD Normal more... Normally, I get to Sakuya before needing to continue, but I've been game over-ing as early as Cirno now. Maybe going for a no-glasses run would work as a warm-up...

Post by: Scooter1000 on October 16, 2009, 11:10:12 PM
Oh jeez, I never realized just how much I challenge myself. Let's see:

Play difficulties WAY above where I'm at
Blind run of IN Normal (Failed at Kaguya)
Completely blind against Normal EoSD Rumia (Failed at Night Bird)
Played with mouse + tried S6 Path A for the first time, IN Normal (1CC)
No-focus run of EoSD Normal (Failed at Sakuya)
Pacifist run + grazewhoring EoSD Normal (or was it Hard?) (Failed somewhere around Meiling)
Trying to (and almost did) capture VoWG Normal on my first try against it. (Got hit by last possible bullet as Kanako was blowing up)
Regularly playing MarisaB in UFO (lolno)

I'm sure I've done more, but that's just off the top of my head.

2) Play with the keyboard behind you

3) Play with the top half of your monitor covered

5) any combination or permutation of 1 through 4

You know, I should do another no-glasses-right-eye-only run. my eyes have gotten MUCH worse since my first blind run.

I guess I'll try EoSD Normal. I'll edit this post with the details and maybe a replay when it's over.

EDIT: Alright, I just finished. Stage 1 & 2 were pretty easy (With the exception of S2's almost-the-same-color-as-the-background-bullets.) Died on Meiling once due to a bullet that snuck up on me. Stage 4 was alright. Stage 5 however, took away most of the lives I had been saving for later. I think I entered stage 6 with 2 or 3 lives, died to a fairy and to Eternal Meek. Got to Remi with only 4 bombs in stock and game over'd in the last few seconds of her last card. Oh well.

Actually you can try it. Because I did that SA Lunatic 1cc with MarisaC. Additionally, I can't upload any full runs at the moment.

EDIT: I'll do it on Easy  :V

Will consider "Hourai Elixir" at Hard. Definitely not Lunatic. On second thought, nah. Too many restarts to actually get going.

Here's an eaiser one (tested it out just then):

Capture Hourai Elixer on Normal or higher with solo Youmu unfocused.  Be shooting at all times.
I'd like to add to that: Hourai Elixir, Youmu, constant shooting, no focus, and as soon as the blue arrow bullets disappear (at about 50 seconds left), move above the PoC and stay above it for the rest of the card.

Also, Youmu solo, constant shooting, no focus, and no vertical on Kaguya's 3rd Last Spell, Normal or higher. (Spell Cards 181~183)
Here's mine, on Normal: http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=5454

I'd also like to see someone do Kaguya's other Last Spells (other than the first, which is too easy) with Youmu solo, constant shooting, and no focus.

[Edit: Oops. My mind somehow mushed together "no vertical" and "only horizontal" to spit out "no vertical".]

Way too many.  I don't even remember because I did it with vertical movements first (that took two tries), then wasted time trying towards the left side where the bullets aren't as dense (IT DOESN'T WORK), then actually ended up doing it twice because I forgot to save the replay the first time.

Then I went back and did Hard in two tries after I finished with Lunatic  :V

Also it's definitely easier with 100% focus.  Much easier.

No Vertical is the way to go. How about trying "Fantasy Seal -Concentrate-" on Easy? I even have a demonstration (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=5498) for you. Kick it up a difficulty or three if you're feeling like a moron confident. No Focus is entirely optional as usual.

I say Easy because Murasa's survival makes anything above that impossible. And, uh, anything Shou does.

I guess normal and higher would have to have exceptions for that card.

More IN spell-practice goodness:

1.) Time out Evil Sealing Circle on Easy by dodging within this spot:
(http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/7224/evseci.th.jpg) (http://img190.imageshack.us/i/evseci.jpg/)

This spellcard series is quite the goldmine for challenges actually.  There are tons of different safespots on each difficulty that would probably be interesting to try.

2.) Visionary Tuning no-vert.  Easy is fairly doable while Normal is fucking impossible.  Don't let that stop you from trying though! ;)

There was a patch for it on the old site a couple months before it was closed down.

I don't think I have it anymore. It was pretty hard to use; the buttons were placed rather awkwardly, you wouldn't move as smoothly, and you would fly straight across the screen by moving the mouse just a little bit.

MoF/VoWG any difficulty, within the outer layer of the bullet flower.
Don't even try to capture it, just make it through somehow.
The fun part is that a capture is theoretically possible~ anyone willing to TAS this?

If you use Slow Mode Play, then you'll see what I was putting myself through.

Well even though its only one wave it's still very impressive and mind boggling to me.
