After playing Touhou nonstop for two hours, this was the farthest I got. Stage 4 would be so fun if I didn't have to worry about dying all the time.

...
The replay you linked was a 1cc.
-
Sorry about that. That was someone's replay I downloaded with the intent of learning from it. Do you know how to take down replays? ANyway, here my actual replay.

I've worked out the flaws of your run. Easier if I demonstrate on the same difficulty.
Now let's see if I can get my hands on a score.dat seeing as I'm lazy and such.
-
score.dat coming up in approximately ten minutes.
Okay, freshly baked! Link (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=799392cbfef5c13bd9d5c56d04dfa8b0626d9098e3e38509480654b192e70f3f)
But you've probably alread obtained one by now because most people in their right mind would take their own score.dat instead of making a new one. Oh, and it failed some spells for poor reasons...
No, more like 'lazy' and 'didn't stop shooting to get a better view of the amulets'. What, I don't remember failing Kogasa's last spell too!
Must resist temptation and beat the game for myself... :-\
-
Actually, I went off to breakfast :V Link can be removed now if you wish.
Stage 4 (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=4917)
Apart from doing a few risky things like at the start and just after Nue (Mid-Boss), this run seems to sum up things quite nicely. If you want to copy it exactly, copy it at your own risk.
Substitute the Blue UFO at the start with whatever color UFO you picked up at the end of Stage 3 (e.g. if you started Stage 4 holding 1 Red UFO, then pick up the red UFOs where I picked up Blue ones).
If you want to summon a UFO during Nue Mid-Boss (or a bit before like I have), then I suggest being slightly left, right, left, and finally right for each "wave" of fairies to shoot down as many fairies as possible.
After the Post-Mid-Boss fairies (again, copy this part at your own risk), move to the center-bottom of the screen like I have, unfocus and stay shooting. It should work with 2.xx Power and over.
Ignore the clipdeath when trying to grab the 3rd UFO (here) as I'm not that used to Marisa's unfocused movement. Messed up the UFO chaining near the end I think. Bomb to grab it if you know how to.
Try to end Stage 4 with 1-2 Red or Green UFOs, as a preparation chaining at the start of Stage 5. Try to end Stage 5 with 1-2 Green UFOs (or 1 Red + 1 Blue) as this will prepare you for chaining UFOs in Stage 6.
I would advise against moving too far up during "Deep Vortex". Though it does make bypassing each wave easier, it also moves the center of the vortex upwards, which makes dodging the later waves harder. In other words, only move up if you have to.
I would suggest you copy the method for "Sinker Ghost". Note that you start off by rushing to the corner furthest from where Minamitsu first teleports to (why do people commonly call her by surname as if it were first?).
Working on Stage 5 (might edit). I didn't particularly see anything wrong with Stages 1,2 and 3. Actually, your Stage 5 performance is passable.
-
I would suggest you copy the method for "Sinker Ghost". Note that you start off by rushing to the corner furthest from where Minamitsu first teleports to (why do people commonly call her by surname as if it were first?).
Her surname is Minamitu, first name is Murasa. Or are you saying people commonly call her Minamitu?
Other people said it pretty well though, not much I can add.
-
Wiki Page (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters) puts Minamitsu first.
-
Personally I don't care if her first name is Minamitsu or Murasa, all I know is that everyone in-game refers to her as Murasa, so that's what I call her. Also Legendary Flying Saucer is Legendary Flying Object no matter what the game says. :V
-
Huh, I guess it is first on the wiki. It's hard to say though what her surname or first name is based on the booklet/reference in game. Because Murasa is put in Katakana in the in-game portrait, and it also says that she picked up the name Murasa after she became a ship ghost, because everyone would call her that.
I'm thinking that Minamitu is her actual name/surname, and that Murasa was picked up and eventually became part of her name. And with non-Japanese names (Or even Japanese names when the person is not native Japanese or has Japanese citizenship) is first name/last name order.
tl;dr version: She's Captain Mutherfuckin' Murasa.
-
Wiki Page (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters) puts Minamitsu first.
In the in game dialogues, the Japanese name that was written when she appeared was "Captain Murasa". That is probably the name she used since she became a youkai while Minamitsu Murasa was her name before she died.
-
Yeah. According to her omake description, after she became a Youkai she began being called Murasa, based on her original name.
-
Also Legendary Flying Saucer is Legendary Flying Object no matter what the game says. :V
This.

I'm getting closer, think I'll have it by the end of next week?

By the way how much slowdown can a replay have to considered a legitimate 1cc.
-
The slowdown %age cap was added to prevent the abuse of intentionally slowing down the game (in certain areas) to make scoring easier / trivializing certain patterns. Just a bit of history on it.
5% is the limit.
-
How does the slowdown % change anyways? Donut's laggy brofists gave him 11% slowdown and when I've tried TAS, the slowdown was 100%.....
Does it show how many % of the replay have considerable fps loss?
-
Amount of dropped frames. The game is supposed to run at 60 fps, so if you slow it down to 30 fps, that'll be 50% frame drop.
-
Does anyone have any advice that makes stage 5 and its boss easier?
-
Does anyone have any advice that makes stage 5 and its boss easier?
Well, apart from that the orbs in the stage head right toward you, so you can take advantage of that, the only advice I have is to bomb whatever you have trouble with. Note that if you have trouble with everything Shou has, you're gonna need a bit more than just two or so lives when you reach her to get through if you haven't been collecting green UFOs.
-
Shou is just stupid in general. The Stage itself is easy really. The only exception might be Nazrin midboss, but it's not like a consistent death or anything.
As for Shou, I have no tips to offer at all because all of her cards seem to be pure reading. The only small tip that I can give you is that on Radiant Treasure, staying at the bottom of the screen and sitting right next to the red lasers is a safe spot from the double helix yellow lasers.
On Absolute Justice, just don't panic. The yellow ball's hitboxes are smaller than you think. Shave off like a pixel or so from the outer edge and that's the real hitbox. At least I think that's right :X
I would advise you to autobomb green spinny lasers because it's just unfair. If you can do it, good for you :D
The final spell card is very claustrophobic, but if you see the direction in which the majority of the balls break formation in, then you'll be fine.
-
Green spinning lasers are unfair? I capture it most of the time...
Then again, I main Marisa B and her stage-trivializing bomb.
-
well, I just 1cced my first UFO run with
Youkai Nazi SanaeA. It was really ugly. Stage 3 took 1 live and a bomb out of me, cause that last death is right when the spell was dissolving, I was like "What the dicks was that shit?" and almost rage quit, but then I just went on.
In general, Stage 4 is bullshit "dodge ball" streaming, the trajectory is really wide and there are bullets that spawn out of fucking nowhere. I hate it. Murasa, on the other hand, is simple, first card is easy, but if you are using SanaeB, you have to unfocus as much as possible when you are hitting her. And thanks to whoever said this, but staying at the bottom on Deep Vortex really helps. Phantom Ship Harbor sometime clips me, but it's generally okay. However, I have to always use 2 bombs on Sinker Ghost, tips?
I always bomb Narzin's Greatest Treasure. Even though I can do it 6/10 without the thanks of overlapping bullets confusing me. You will have much better benefit in a 1cc run to chain more UFOs.
Shou's non-spells are bullshit, and will take practice to get it right. Once you do, she is somewhat doable. I always try to beat Radiant Treasure, which I did on this run. Absolute Justice is easy... other than the fact that those blue laser's hitboxes are HUGE. And when they go away, they will fade as advertised, I have died some many times due this thinking the "traditional" way. The Yellow bullets have very generous hixbox though, so use those to get by.
Byakuren... I cap Omen in Purple Clouds 50% of the time, I use a safespot for Makai Butterfly, then I start using bombs a lot. Star Maelstrom can kiss my ass though, it always clips me at the worst time. I hate that the Stars comes out of no where again if your bomb just expired, it's just... cheating.
Shinki's attack, I capped it before, but I also died badly to it before too. Not bad, general reading, but it is the blue arrows at the bottom that catch me of guard instead of deathbomb. Air Scroll, I don't know what is with this card. The bullets seems to have bigger hit boxes than it seems, so if I try to squeeze through something, it ain't going to work. I think the card is static though.
Flying Fantastica, I need all the help I could with this card. The Amulets seems to have generous hitboxes and I read it fine... until I die once and my confidence drops.
Either way, I did it. I might go for a better score run though. The score was horrible for this.
EDIT: I'll post my replay so you guys can help or something. :V Behold my nubness:

Yeah, I've died to Ichirin's last card like that multiple times. I don't think 1 life and 1 bomb is ragequit worthy though. Try 2 lives and 4 bombs. :(
Stage 4 is relatively easy. There's a general path that you can use to get through it, although there are several random hard parts like the third random bullet shaped danmaku section (the 2nd section on steroids basically), but the sheer number of UFOs there can make it relatively trivial, and the first section with those bullets that come in 3s if you don't use a UFO there. Otherwise, it's easy.
Phantom Ship Harbor is always a hard card for me because of visibility problems :( I've gotten good at reading it lately though. I've found that looking at the bullet wave that's coming your way helps immensely in finding a path through it. (What I'm referring to is like the wave that crosses over you extended). Sinker Ghost can also be hard, but I saw a way which is going into either corner opposite of where Murasa starts, and work your way through the corners. Just get the bullets to spawn as close to the corners as possible basically. I always end up staying in one place from like 5-0 seconds and praying that a wave doesn't hit me though :P
Greatest Treasure was hard for me until I realized that you could sit next to the red lasers to get some extra damage on Nazrin. Silly me. It's actually fairly consistently doable.
Shou is just hard for me. Radiant Treasure is static and is easily capturable after you see how the bullets break apart. Absolute Justice was hard because I always moved once every two waves of blue lasers for whatever reason. I find Vajra and her final spell card to be harder for me because I've gotten to them less consistently, so I have less experience with them :X
Byakuren :/ Omen in Purple Clouds is either a hit or miss for me. There's a general pattern to make the spell card easier, but I haven't done the spell card enough times to figure out exactly how it goes yet. The two sections following OiPC is easy. Then I need three bombs to take down Byakuren's following two non-spell cards and Star Maelstrom. Devil's Recitation is generally easy for me though. Air Scroll is actually easy if you stay in the place where the bullets to break last will take the longest to go. For the first wave it's the lower right corner, for the second wave it's either bottom middle or lower right corner. After that, the bullet patterns are easier to read for me. I don't have too much experience with Flying Fantastica. It's just staying in the middle and reading from what I can see :X
-
Here's another replay:
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=5028
My problem with Absolute Justice isn't the yellow balls, it the lasers that last a long time with their huge hitboxes that repeatedly wall me. Omen in the Purple Cloulds has a maybe 60% cap rate with me. I go thourgh the purple clouds and go through the small bullets. The next two attacks are easy(usually). Everything after that is usually bombed.
-
Am I the only one here who thinks Absolute Justice is cakewalk? I stick to the middle and move down. When there is a wall in my way, I move when the lasers go away completely. With Normal, only the first wave has a wall in the middle, the rest you can just dodge it by sticking to the middle.
-
On Lunatic I think it's easier to stay at the left corner and time out the spellcard , instead of trying to take down Syou .
-
Still no luck, but at least I capped Sinking Ghost.
-
I use a safespot for Makai Butterfly
Eh?
-
I use a safespot for Makai Butterfly
Eh?
From near the bottom (where you would normally spawn when you die), move slowly to the right. You will get to a box that can never hit you, and all you have to do to micro dodge the lasers while staying in the box. It's in my replay.
-
Makai Butterfly is easy enough anyways, so...
Good to know there's a safespot, though.
-
If only there was a safe spot for something like star maelstorm or one Byakuren's noncards sans he first two.
