Hey, I just rediscovered my PSP. An almost new PSP 1001 that I bought when I was a whiny brat. Only five dead pixels :V
So, I have a bit of money to spend, enough for about three to four games. What do you guys suggest? I'm fine with anything that's not a racing/fighting/fps/puzzle.
LOL YES I KNOW THAT ELIMINATES MOST PSP GAMES
I'm considering Metal Gear Portable Ops/Ac!d 2 and Final Fantasy Tactics, never played the original.
And I already have both GTAs, Disgaea and Lumines. What is another "must-have" PSP game, in your opinion? I'm asking this here cause I think I would get a much more balanced opinion than say- Gamefaqs or my peers.
Edit: I am not a big Final Fantasy fanboy, so Crisis Core or Dissidia are kinda out of the question. Unless they are great games in their own right, I'm not really too hyped about them.
INB4 "hur hur hur just CFW it and get all of them," I already have CFW on it, but only to play Touhoumon :P
-
FFCC (JRPG), God of war(action) and Papaton(I have no idea but I heard its good)
-
I'd say Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2. Both RPGs.
-
The DJ Max series, any of them except for Fever. :S
Or Tales of Eternia, since the European version is already in English.
-
Hatsune Miku Project Diva
-
Patapon 1 and 2. I will come to your house and personally slap you across the face if you don't have them by the end of the week.
Valkyrie Profile's awesome, too.
-
FF tactic certainly a good one, although I prefer the Bad English in the original than the Shakespeare-like medieval English. >>
Not sure if you like Harvest Moon though...
Card game wise...Yugioh is good. MTG acid is not really a card battle, you always trying to hide instead of fight and the story is nice.
Lastly, get Persona.
-
Not sure if you like Harvest Moon though...
I do, but I have Rune Factory 2 and Harvest Moon DS, so I've already had my fill.
I actually have Valkyrie Profile, but *prepares to get destroyed* I found it too depressing for my tastes. But that was when I was 14-ish, I'll pick it up again and see.
Hatsune Miku Project Diva
Sorry, I'm a dunce at rhythm games.
I'll take a look at Patapon too. To save my face. :'(
Oh Tales, never knew there was one out on PSP. Getting God of War, that's also a given.
-
Sorry, I'm a dunce at rhythm games.
Miku holds your hand through most of it, and it's really fun. Easy mode = 1 button. Give it a shot.

heh, I actually really like it. Very catchy and fun.
but the closeups on Miku's...uh.... kinda distract me.
But Disgaea 2 requires OFW 5.55.
NOOOOOOO! Touhoumon! what will I do!
I could just re-Pandora my system, but I chickHEN'd it the first time, so I might mess up and kill my system.
EDIT: Tried Normal mode, got destroyed ;-;
-
I think Miku's model is a 13-yr old girl. Enjoy.
-
@Ruri Hoshino: Yeah the idol that did the motion capture is a 13 years old idol. Miku herself is 16 years old. Still, the game is awesome even if Hard mode is nearly unplayable since the game lags way too much, probably because I have a first gen PSP. I tried with my UMD and with an iso and the result is the same.
As for recommendations, I like Mana Khemia on the PS2 so the PSP port should be good too. The game is from the Atelier series from Gust. You do alchemy, do quest, etc... It's a standard JRPG.
EDIT: Link removed, I only found the link from a google search, I didn't know links from that place were prohibited, sorry.
-
If it make you feel better, Miku is 18 this year.
-
@Ruri Hoshino: Yeah the idol that did the motion capture is a SANKAKU COMPLEX LINK.
WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU PEOPLE ABOUT THIS?
-
Gitaroo man lives!

The DJ Max series, any of them except for Fever. :S
What
Considering it's the easiest/cheapest to get, I'd say it a good start! It's not like he's looking for rhythm games anyway though.
I recommend Gradius Collection and Parodius Portable.
-
CTRL+F 'Power Stone' --> 'No results found'.
Sad face. Get Power Stone collection now, if not sooner.

I suppose, it's just....the others are so much better. Fever might give him a bad first impression. :S
As for cheaper, Clazziquai and Black Square are actually $5 less than Fever on Play-Asia. Which makes no sense...

How so?
-
Do not forget about Maverick Hunter X.

Well...ok, it's not that Fever is bad, it just feels like it was rushed to me.
I will admit Fever is a much better choice in this case because it's much easier to get though. And more people playing DJ Max in any form is fine by me.

Not that anyone who didn't play the others is gonna know. >_>

speaking of DJ Max, I just max combo'd Nightmare on portable 2 4B. :) now i just have to wait over this hand cramp.
seems i'm better at rhythm games than danmaku. :(
-
I know you said racing is a no-no, but Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast is a lot of fun. You aren't really doing a go-for-first thing... it's more of a fun game where you're driving cool cars. The music is amazing and it's got a fun, arcadey feel, like you're playing the game in Miami in an arcade just off Calle Ocho.
-
hah alright. Thanks for the recommendations, I beat GoW and playing Valkyrie Profile right now. Enjoying it much more now.
I'll definitely take a look (whether it's borrowing, renting or buying) at all the games listed here. Hopefully that will tide me over until a 5.55 or 6.00 CFW comes out. :-\

Yes it does. I got nothing :V
-
There's only like two games I owned for the PSP for a brief time, but both of them were good: Gradius Collection and Rock Band Unplugged. Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters is also good, but it's got a PS2 port, so it's up to you if you want it or not.
Don't forget the PSP Go is coming out next month, and there are those PSP Mini titles too, so you may want to look at the game list when the Go comes out and trade in your old PSP to credit towards it if you're interested.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 Unite. Fun by yourself, but it's incredibly fun when you have people to play with. Be warned, it's a hard game. Like the Touhou of Action RPGs.

I played the first Monster Hunter Freedom, but I got sick of it because nobody else played. And I'm pretty much the only person in my group of friends who has a PSP and enough time to play MHF2U. I was thinking about it too, maybe if I play with MotK folks it would be better? ???

I'm played out when it comes to MHF2U (something like 300+ hours logged), but it'd be fun to start up again if I had new people to play with. That would require shelling out money on XLinkKai and a wireless hub though.
In retrospect, waiting for Monster Hunter 3 Tri would probably just be a better option. :\ You could always get any pre-PSX/64 gen emulator and do that. Showing people Touhoumon on your PSP is a good way to confuse random pokemon players.

Oh yeah, and Ys: The Ark of Napishtim.
Great action RPG, even though it is a bit short.....but one of the hardest I've played.
It seems to have some loading issues on PSP though, but only on some models I think....

I played that on the ps2, was a nice game. One of the only games I actually paid for myself.

I've finished it in one sitting once - took me 4 hours :V

Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception

Gran Turismo PSP is the first PSP game i've seriously played on my PSP in a while. i guess that means something (even if compared to the other GT games, its lacking features, its still a fun timewaster on a long train journey)
or maybe im the only racing sim fan here, idk

I enjoy racing games, but I can't bring myself to drop the money for something I could play with better graphics/controls on the big screen.
It just seems very strange to me, which is why I don't play fighters on the small screen either. I want to have the least-watered down experience, wherever I go.
But then again, I probably spend a tenth of the time you do in public transportation (California vs. UK lol), so I see your point that its a good timewaster, for lack of a better word. It makes you concentrate, which I can't do when I always have to turn my game on and off, not touching the game for a day or two after. No way in hell would I ever consider playing a Touhou game on the PSP (saw a poosh thread about that, btw. Was it legit?)
I'm holding off on a PSPgo, I need to save money for prom and other senior-year rituals.

Was LocoRoco 2 mentioned yet? It's a great and refreshing platformer that takes modern capabilities of a PSP, yet mixes it with classic gameplay

It looks ghey, but trust me, it's awesome!
-
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. It's a remake of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, a game that wasn't released out of Japan. I don't know the remake itself, but the I really enjoyed the original.
For what I know, the remade features are:
- re-arranged soundtrack (but the original is in there);
- 3D graphics, makes the game look pretty cool;
- at least one re-touch that makes the game a bit easier (crouching actually dodges upper axe throws);
- redone last alternative level (the original last alternative level was an "extra" level).

Hell yes.

You should really try Prinny. It's a platformer, but it's really good. It's really easy the first two stages, but then it gets omgwtfbbqhard later on, lulz. Kinda like Touhou.
Also, Project Diva. It kinda lags if you have a PSP Classic, I think. I have mine hacked, so I have no idea if it works better with a UMD. :V

Persona 1, and soon Persona 3.
