(this may or not be 80% lifted from last year's thread (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,18493.0.html)
Q: What is this?
A: A month-and-a-half long charity marathon benefiting Child's Play. Play Final Fantasy V, on whatever platform you want (SNES, PS1, GBA, iOS, emulator), with the jobs given to you by the custom RNG bot and benevolent overlord, Gilgabot!
Q: When does it start?
The fiesta begins on on June 12th or the completion of ~*~the run~*~ (details on the main site)
Registration is LIVE GO GO GO (http://fourjobfiesta.com/)
It runs through the end of August, so there's plenty of time and no rush (except for #BERSERKERRISK). You can even register once the fiesta has begun, register for another run after you finish so no worries if you check this topic out later.
Q: What do I need to sign up?
A: A twitter account. That's it. You can totally make a throwaway twitter account for this; just make sure you will be able to remember the password. It's used to tweet at Gilgabot for commands, such as signing up, revealing jobs, and reporting victories. If you have a private account, you'll need to either unlock it when you send the command tweets or send a message to get added to Gilgabot's friend list (I can give instructions if needed)
Q: How does the four job thing work?
A: This depends on the ruleset you choose.
In Standard, once you get your first crystal and reveal your first job, your entire party will be locked into that job. As you get the new jobs, you need to have one representative of each available job at all times (excluding when you have insufficient party members to do so, in those cases just make sure everyone has a different job). You can swap jobs as often as you want within that limitation, and mix and match the abilities you learn freely. This is what you will sign up for by default.
In Natural Only, each character is locked to Freelancer until you get their respective crystal - at which point the character is locked forever into whatever job you got for that crystal. No mixing and matching jobs. This is the tougher one by a significant margin!
NEW THIS YEAR is Upgrade. This is sort of a mix between the two modes. Your entire party will start out all the same job just as a standard run. However, once the next set of jobs is available you can choose when to ~upgrade~ your full team to your next assigned job. You can keep using any skills you learned previously and equip them on your new jobs, so have fun grinding and hope Gilgabot has mercy on you for your endgame job :V
Q: Which run choice do I pick?
A: There's several sets of runs that affect what classes you can obtain:
Regular is the original mode, you will receive one random Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth job at each crystal. This is what I'd recommend for a first timer.
Random will open up additional jobs for each crystal - any job that you haven't obtained yet that is also up for grabs. For instance, the Water crystal may also unlock a new Wind job instead, and the Earth could hand you any job in the game. You're more likely to receive jobs from the first crystals as a result, and very unlikely to see an Earth crystal job.
Chaos Mode is similar to Random, except that any job is up for grabs for each crystal. This means you have a pretty decent chance of not getting a job from the Wind crystal and needing to No Job Siesta a bit longer. This mode also enables the possibility of rolling the same job for multiple crystals!
Team 750 and Team No 750 is a modifier this year that divides the classes in half in the general theme of Magic vs Physical (or close enough to allow an even divide) named after the cost of an elemental rod, as using/breaking one in battle to cast a powerful spell is a common tactic for mages. The breakdowns are:
- Team 750: Wind - White Mage/Black Mage/Blue Mage Water - Time Mage/Summoner/Red Mage Fire - Geomancer/Bard Earth - Chemist/Dancer
- Team No 750: Wind - Thief/Monk/Knight Water - Mystic Knight/Berserker Fire - Ninja/Beastmaster/Ranger Earth - Dragoon/Samurai
Classic will assign you one of the six original FF1 classes at each job, and can assign you multiples of the same job. This is automatically under Natural Only rules, as above. Could be potentially hellish (four white mages is a legit risk)
Q: Berserker Risk?
A: Based on the amount of donations received before preregistration ends vs the number of players who signed up for this, those players will be guaranteed to receive at least one Berserker and maybe more depending on job mode! You can only sign up for Berserker Risk before the Fiesta begins so choose wisely. They're quite a challenging class to work with due to really being entirely out of your control, but that doesn't mean they're bad. Just brace yourself!
To clarify, adding #BERSERKKERRISK to a Regular run will lock you into getting a 'zerker for your Water crystal job and that's it (they will always hit the bare minimum of donations) Adding it to a Random run opens up the possibility of your Fire and/or Earth crystal jobs getting overridden by THE RISK. And Chaos Mode? Hope you're ready for the chance of FOUR BERSERKERS :o
In my opinion/experience, having just one isn't much of a liability outside of a few battles and for some teams it'd be a great source of damage throughout the game. If you really want a risk, make sure to sign up for Chaos or Random!
Q: I don't know Final Fantasy V that well...
A: What a great time to come play the best one! Our buddy Garlyle is some sort of FF5 Wizard and wrote a handbook (https://www.dropbox.com/s/rtr4hud61zu35wg/ffv%20fjf%20handbook.txt) (click here for GBA version "translation") (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11175496/ffv%20fjf%20handbook.txt)specifically oriented towards the FJF that covers more or less everything you'd ever want to know to make the most of the game's mechanics, the classes you've drawn, to help you figure out boss strategies, etc. Also, MotK has several veterans of this challenge, and we'll always be available to offer a helping hand if you stumble or just run face first into a brick wall.
And yes, this is totally a great excuse to play FFV for the first time!
Q: Is there any way I can watch someone miss on Byblos 6 times in a row and laugh at her misfortune?
A: A few of us will be streaming our runs! Come check us out, subscribe to keep on top of stream times and post if you got a link I missed!

Yeah I've been spotty about streaming my fiestas in past years as it was and I could definitely see doing a huge binge of it on the train trip I have late June and pretty sure steaming on Amtrak wi-fi is a no. :V
But I am definitely fiesta-ing.
-
Can't wait to get Beastmaster again (so I can bring four Breath Wings into the final boss fight and !Calm Omega to death)
I've babysat enough BERSERKERS to know what to do with them, but if I get Thief this time...
-
Third year or so in a row I'm gonna do this. Maybe THIS year I'll do Berserker Risk for the first time. Probably yes. Probably going to get like two Berserkers. Probably going to cry. :'D
-
hey
If I babysat two berserkers with a red mage and a samurai
You can probably do anything with enough patience and time
-
I'll probably start with some form of non-Chaos BERSERKER RISK and then do a Chaos run. Didn't quite have the willpower to finish out a 2x Zerker/Dragoon/Beastmaster run last year
-
I love how I'm automatically on the stream list
because yeah it's totally gonna happen hell ye
-
Ohboy. My bike is excite.
Stupid edit: OHBOY! Site is up. There seems to be another extra rule you can apply for this year for anyone who doesn't pick Natural: Upgrade. Basically, once you hit the wind crystal, everyone swaps to the wind crystal job. Then, when you hit the water crystal, everyone swaps to the water crystal job. Repeat until everyone has hit the earth crystal job. Kinda interesting and there is a very real possibility that you could wind up with 4 dancers and while you pray to RNGsus for Sword Dance to proc. Synergy between jobs would help a ton. I'mma pass and just go chaos/berserker risk this time around.
-
Yeah it seems kind of gimmicky and encourages grinding since you can keep learned skills after class change. Gonna pass. I'll update the OP in a bit.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna go for ~*~THE RISK~*~ or not, I never did and I sure have been doing this long enough to warrant a change up but on the other hand I do want a greater chance at some of the classes I have yet to play with.
-

Yeah maybe it's for some but it's a bit too grindy even for my taste.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna go for ~*~THE RISK~*~ or not, I never did and I sure have been doing this long enough to warrant a change up but on the other hand I do want a greater chance at some of the classes I have yet to play with.
This is why I'm sorta wavering on whether or not I will be signing up for BERSERKER RISK. I already did this once with a berserker and all in all it was good but there's still a bunch of classes I haven't touched upon yet. Maybe I know what I'm getting with a run-of-the-mill mage or standard sword and board guy, but the other classes that I haven't used before have made the run more interesting. Blue mage and dancer two years ago both drove me nuts and saved my behind on numerous occasions. Last year, beastmaster was a delightful surprise and chemist was as good as it was touted to be. So ~WHO KNOWS~ although I'll be signing up within the next 6 hours. Time to decide.
-
Alright, this year is just going to be a Normal run with an extra helping of RISK. Time to learn how to use berserkers. :'D
-
Just remember that if you REALLY want ~*~the risk~*~ you gotta sign up for Random or Chaos mode because just one zerker isn't a problem. I just updated the OP with that and all the new stuff for this year (I think I got it all?) since I know that's a question that comes up every year.
-
Well crap, I already registered for a normal run. Here's hoping retweeting a Random run changes it. :'D
-
Yeah you can override your mode choices up and add modifiers up until the start of the Fiesta without a problem. When in doubt just check the Players page and see if it's updated.
-
I've noticed that a lot of the folks doing an upgrade run have signed on for BERSERKER RISK. It's kind of a clever way to approach it. Berserkers only have 2 skills to learn and they could theoretically be used to boost the party's physical attack power later in the game. To compliment this, the gap between the water crystal and fire crystal is comparatively small. Once you're done, you don't have to worry about a zerker being a burden anymore. Problem: Have fun with Liquid Flame, chumperonis!
-
Yeah I'm also gonna pass on #upgrade. It's a nice idea! But I like being able to mix my stuff around a little more, it's most of the fun!
I do think Upgrade at least sounds a ton more fun than Natural, and also that Risk combo is hella clever. Until you also get a Berserker in your Earth slot because BERSERKER RISK is no fun without random/chaos. =P
(Also I'd like to praise the decoupling of 750/no-750 from normal/random/chaos this year.)
-
/me jumps aboard the noUpgrade train
I loved my Chaos run last time, so I'mma do it again! Here's a history of my runs so far:
2013: (Normal) Monk, Red Mage, Ranger, Samurai. Successful.
2014: (Random, RISK) Blue Mage, ZERKER, ZERKER, ????. Quit.
2015: (CHAOS) Blue Mage, Blue Mage, Time Mage, Chemist. SUCCESSFUL DRAGONFORCE.
-
So it's that time of the year again! Great! :3
Decided to go with normal but with RISK this time. Kind of boring, but I've been pretty successful at never getting a 'zerker the entire time I've been doing this, so bring it on!
...Iiiiii'll probably try out Upgrade if I complete this first run, though. A grindfest, sure, but it will be interesting to at least try this year.
Guess I'm all about changes this year, eh? BV
-
Well I think I'll chicken out from BERSERKER RISK this year but it's a very high possibility for next year if this year is as rockin' as last year.
I do think Upgrade at least sounds a ton more fun than Natural, and also that Risk combo is hella clever. Until you also get a Berserker in your Earth slot because BERSERKER RISK is no fun without random/chaos. =P
Ho yeah godspeed mooncat. Better hope those passives come through big time. It'd make thief useful for dps, at least.
-
Last year, I did two runs. The first was Random Natural (Black Mage/Knight/MKnight/Geomancer) that won and beat Shinryu, and a Chaos (Berserker/Beastmaster/Beastmaster/Geomancer) that would have Triple Crowned but NED was just being a massive troll and I lost my motivation.
Neither of those runs were Berserker Risk, but I may take the risk this year. It certainly won't be Chaos Risk though, since I'm one of those old fashioned sorts actually playing on a GBA cartridge. Grinding all Berserkers is a chore in the best of circumstances, but without speed up functions of an emulator or the mobile/Steam improvements to zerks? No thank you.
-
oh lordy (https://twitter.com/random_hughesw/status/737861264140029953)
-
oh no
-
Actually, I was doing some thinking at work, and I think Upgrade could be interesting. It probably won't be too hard, but it could be still kind of nasty in some ways (Ending on four bards would be somewhat challenging just due to low offensive stats, and you'd be entirely reliant on anything you got prior to enable any sort of offense).
I'm actually going to run Chaos/Upgrade. I think RK's confirmed that you don't actually have to upgrade until you're ready (otherwise it gets really strange in tandem with Chaos), so that'll be a thing.
Also hell yeah that donation
EDIT: There's a hidden registration command. Do not attempt to figure it out. You will have only everhate yourself to blame for what you get (https://twitter.com/FF5ForFutures/status/733092154671669248)
-
oh lordy (https://twitter.com/random_hughesw/status/737861264140029953)
Ahaha I was wondering just why the donation total had jumped by $4k overnight.
-

That makes it much better. I was wondering what would happen if you got multiple Earth Crystal jobs, and it'd keep the entirety of World 2 and 3 from being just one class if you choose. It also puts the gamble in your hands if you are hitting a brick wall boss, or if you wind up with Red Mage/Ranger you can wait until Bal Castle grinding is done to change away :V :V :V
-
/me clicks on "the run," sees top jobs
A bit early to call it, but if these jobs go through, they can probably kill Shinryu and Omega too.
-
Reiterpallasch on SomethingAwful apparently made this year a nice little tool (http://enkibot.herokuapp.com/) that condenses a lot of useful hints and tips down to what's potentially available to your job makeup. (Including things to not worry about doing if you don't have the applicable jobs.)

Please don't use the mobile/Steam version of FFV but if you do hate yourself that much it's on sale right now (https://store.na.square-enix.com/product/289741/final-fantasy-v-pc-download).
(But seriously its only redeeming qualities are the enemy sprites, and having the Amano portraits at a nice resolution. Everything else looks like a shitty RPG Maker game and they "fixed" a lot of things in ways that render a lot of bosses basically impossible for some Fiesta teams that could handle them on previous versions.)
EDIT: My bad why did I think it has fast-forward built in, it totally doesn't. It does have an auto-battle option though.
Also! Regardless of your platform of choice, consider prepping a save up through getting the Wind Crystal jobs to save time when the Fiesta starts (and save it in a separate slot if you think you might do multiple runs).
-
Whoa geez didn't realize it was that time again
went #regChaos again, got some good stuff last year (two red mages may have been a bit much), let's see if I end up water tribe (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_Py4QTEyoA) again

PC has it's merits. In fact, for early game, it is the best version for a Quadzerker team dealing with Sandworm since you don't need to grind against him to the 40s just to stand a chance. Of course, Neo Exdeath sucks, but when doesn't he with Quadzerker?
-
BTW I spent way too much time tonight translating Garlyle's handbook (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11175496/ffv%20fjf%20handbook.txt) from SNES names for everything to GBA names. (And I presume the mobile/PC ports use the GBA translation as well?)
I may make some edits myself (considering adding in steals/drops for a few things you can get elsewhere but might want that way for whatever reason, also considering a proofreading pass on mechanical stuff). Also please point out if there's anywhere my liberal use of find and replace exploded anything hilariously; I did at least have the presence of mind to avoid e.g. "twBlizzard" if only because of how much gear actually does have "Ice" in the name. :V

Is there actually a good reference of iOS changes available now somewhere? I'm interested in digging through if there is.

I plugged in my team from last year (Knight, Mystic Knight, Beastmaster, Chemist) and it went "haha you win."
-
Is there actually a good reference of iOS changes available now somewhere? I'm interested in digging through if there is.
A guide on CaveOfNarshe lists many of the differences. I'll just post the changes here.
Apart from updates graphics and all that jazz, there are several minor gameplay
changes compared to the GBA game. I've also seen some changes in damage; given
the same situation, it seems certain attacks deal more damage or have a
different hit rate. In general, certain magic attacks seem to do more damage
and blockable magical attacks seem to miss more often. Since I do not have the
same data I have for the Super Famicom and GBA games, and cannot say with the
same amount of certainty what is going on. Information would be appreciated.
- Attacks and Action Abilities:
The Geomancer's !Gaia ability is now able to conjure all four terrain-bound
attacks regardless of the caster's level. The exact mechanics of this new
new feature is unknown. Some testing gave me the theory that rather then
choose a random number between 0 and the caster's level to determine what
attack to perform, it choose a random number between 0 and 99. The new
incarnation of !Gaia seems to heavily favor the attacks your previously
The Samurai's !Mineuchi now works correctly, setting Paralyze while dealing
50% !Attack damage.
The Beastmaster's !Calm functions correctly in that in works against Magic
Beasts.
The Monk's !Kick now ignores Row, both target Row and attacker's Row. This
makes it better. It is however not boosted by Kaiser Knuckles, so that balances
it out somewhat.
Vampire correctly deals ((max HP - current HP) / 2) damage like it did in
the Super Famicom game. It will now miss versus Heavy targets, an illogical
change that is likely a bug.
The Bee Swarm attack that may be used with the Ranger's !Animals ability now
sets Poison to the targets it hits.
Power Drink functions correctly.
Dragoon's !Jump only takes 10 ABP to learn rather than 50 like it does in
the GBA and Super Famicom games.
Several previously unblockable attacks are now no longer unblockable.
Examples include Breath Wing, Blaze, Lightning, Surge Beam, Death Potion and
Dark Sigh.
- Monsters:
The ArcheoAevis fight gives you all five dropped items at the end, not
only one like it did in the GBA game.
Exdeath and Dragon Pod now correclty have Regen set during your boss battles
with them.
Lamia no longer singles out male characters with her Entice attack in the
Flying Ruins.
Tyrannosaur now counters all spells with Poison Breath.
- Items:
Twin Lance now deals damage twice with !Jump, !Focus, !Mineuchi, Sword Dance
and possibly !Rapid Fire. This makes the weapon that much more awesome.
since it already deals doubly damage with !Jump, this thing will deal
tremendous damage with a Jumping Thief or Ninja.
The Dancing Dagger, when paired with Dual-Wield, does not replace the normal
strike of the weapon in the other hand, meaning that a character with both the
Dancing Dagger and another weapon equipped can use any of the four Dances,
followed or preceded by a normal Attack. In the case of Sword Dance, that
means that the weapon can strike twice; once with the 400% damage and once
normally. If a monster is killed with the Jitterbug Dance but subsequently
struck by the second weapon, this can result in a harmless graphic glitch.
The Thief Knife, when using !Capture, will strike with both weapons. Combined
with Dual-Wield, that can mean the off-hand weapon will strike twice; once
as part of !Capture, once with !Fight.
The Defender Knightsword can no longer be used as an item to cast Protect.
The Mirage Vest no longer re-applies Image (1) when you swap equipment mid-
battle.
The Lilith Rod now either makes the user use !Flirt or casts Osmose, rather
then apply a !Flirt-like effect upon a hit, then possibly casting Osmose in
addition to that effect.
The Magic Lamp will can now summon Fat Chocobo when it summons Chocobo's, and
whenever Catoblepas is summoned, it's petrifying gaze targets all monsters.
Egg Chop still displays no graphics...
Battle System:
The ATB Bar no longer resets when Confuse or Berserk is set, and Haste and
Slow no longer affect the starting position of the ATB bar. Instead, these
speed-altering statuses affect how fast the ATB bar will fill. The effect feels
as is Haste and Slow are equally as effective as they were.
MP damage and healing is colour-coded for your convenience; MP damage is
purple, MP healing is blue.
You can tap any character with a full ATB bar and have his or her turn come
up, allowing you to skip characters.
Status ailments and magical status have an effect on enemy sprites, allowing
you to clearly identify if a monster has been afflicted with a certain status
or not.
Resist (elemental) Potions, Dragon Shield and Elemental Power no longer reset
when you touch equipment in-battle.
Berserk status, including innate abilities taught and sported by the Berserker,
will have the character attack enemies from front to back rather than entirely
random.
There's some more undocumented changes though that I found out when playing the game.
1: Aegis Shield isn't as amazing as it used to be. It doesn't block as often, and a number of moves it seems to no longer block, like Shinryu's Tidal Wave.
2: Exdeath's White Hole attack needs to be blocked on both the Petrification side and the Instant Death side to block. No longer can you just block it using an Aegis Shield
3: Neo Exdeath's Grand Cross will always inflict a status ailment on you based around the ones you're not immune to. So if you're wearing a Ribbon, Bone Mail, and Hermes Sandals, expect to be hit by something that can't just be blocked. Like HP Leak.
4: Weapons that cast spells while attacking, like Death Sickle, can still have the spell activate if the attack itself misses. The spell can still hit
5: Spell animations, even when blocked/missing, will still play out.
6: [The Best Change] SANDWORM IS NOT IN THE BACK ROW ANYMORE!!! [At least in the Front Hole. Can't speak for the other 2]
7: This one might just be me, but I noticed that Dancing Dagger uses Sword Dance more often now.
8: A number of the counters to Omega's counter [1 damage target with 3 Reflect Rings for Thundaga, Reflecting Search back onto Omega and attacking him during it, etc] no longer work, and he will counter your party. HAVE FUN!!

Going to join the Fiesta again, but not sure which mode to pick.
Any suggestions? :D

Chaos No 750 Upgrade Berserker Risk
Or you can try to figure out the secret registration command :V

The big one that it neither it nor you mention that stone-cold fucks over a lot of team comps is that Omniscient can Return with 0 MP.
And while berserked.
AND ALSO APPARENTLY IF HIS OWN LIBRA REFLECTS OFF YOU?!
(though admittedly I'm never good at remembering which shit you need to get past Fork Tower for and I know a lot of it is magic for magic teams and magic.)
-
Nah, I think I will try Upgrade for another run
CHAOS RUN BERSERKER RISK GO!
Edit: Aw shit I accidentally entered Upgrade anyway... It can't be retracted? orz
Edit2: It can, phew.

Haven't fought Omniscient on PC, so I wouldn't know, but now I'm curious to test some things out.

I guess if you need ALL THE WEAPONS for whatever reason. Or your only mage is White Mage which is very possible (ask me how I know!) so have fun with that kids!

To be fair can't you just spam actual Silence then :V

During my PC Quadzerker run, I think someone mentioned he could still cast Reset through Silence. Though I think that might of only be for Silence from Mage Mashers.

Yeah I 100% for sure Silence !Spellblade-d him to death last year. Also Silence does not last very long on him so it's really easy to have it wear off on you unless you're applying it every hit like that would.
-
All these mentions of the PC version screwing over boss strategies (especially against Omniscient... ughh, at least for physical teams he's optional) makes me glad I usually stick to the GBA version when I run the Fiesta. Also I prepped my four save slots (just in case I end up being seeing and try to do like four runs or something), ready to pop the wind crystal jobs in a little over a week. :'D
-
Boo.
I've got my save files all ready and set to go with the prologue out of the way.
I've never had to streamline RPG Saves before.
-
Oh right so Reddyne reminded me this morning we gotta get our TEAM FIESTA AVATARS rolling. What are you kids all thinking? Battle sprites or the artwork from.... I want to say 2 years ago?

I'm waiting until my first team rolls in so I can use one of my actual jobs but I'm fine with whichever. :3
-
We used the sprites last year, right? We should use Obstinatemelon's artwork this year. :3c
As for whom I'm gonna use I'm gonna wait until I actually start my game to decide. Maybe I'll get a theme-team like last year? Who knows!

I was thinking of doing a sort of combination of the two ideas by using Obstinatemelon's artwork and picking out my MVP from last year.
...Which was pretty much everyone, but beastmaster was surprise fave.

I'm gonna stick with the one I have now.
#GilgameshRomHackWhen?

I'm in; doing a Classique Run because I know my roots.
I dare yalls to avatate me.

I had a batch of avatars from last time around still on my computer and my work was s l o w today so I cranked out a few more hooray! Last year's MVP? A class you hope to roll this year? Or just an outfit that looks snazzy?
Go forth and fiesta my friends!!!! (http://imgur.com/a/2EOcw)

LET'S DO THE THING

This will ensure I get no black mages.

Registered for Chaos No 750 Berserker Risk
Why no upgrade? Because if someone's paying for me to get berserker, I don't want that to go to waste by not having berserker in the final party. Sure, Upgrade potentially lets them get more value for that $10, but Berserker Risk should be a full game thing and not just a possible full game thing.
-
Today I realised I've still had the same image since last year's FJF
Time to fix that
-
Interesting into from the SA FJF thread:
From IRC discussion, it turns out that geomancers have some surprising synergy with rapidfire: bells that use the bell formula ignore the Rapidfire penalty.
Unfortunately, the only bell with remotely usable attack that uses the bell formula is the the Tinkerbell (55 ATK, the next best being the Diamond Bell at 24) which is permanently missable and only available at the very end of the game via unbelievable annoyance (1/16 drop from Twintania when it is NOT charging Gigaflare, so that means killing him the hard way!)
Still, if you're willing to go through the amssive tedium of getting it, Rapidfiring the Tinkerbell will actually do about as much damage on a Geomancer as rapid-firing the Chicken Knife.
Unfortunately, the remaining bosses from that point on are Necrophobe and the final boss; you can Tinklefire away Necrophobe once the barriers go down and Tinklefire down Treedeath, but you're not much help for Necrophobe and for Neo-Exdeath you're much better off using Air Knife boosted !Gaia instead.
So all it's good for is making the Geomancer able to contribute to killing Omega and Shinryu, and you don't need their contribution if you have RAPIDFIRE available anyways.
-
I actually posted that discovery last year on the 4JF Reddit, however that thread seems to have missed an important detail. While Rapid Fire does ignore Defense, it doesn't ignore MAGIC Defense, which is what Tinklebell targets. In other words, if the enemy you're fighting has high Magic Defense, Rapid Fire Tinklebell is terrible. Since Omega has 150 Magic Defense, the damage is non-existent.

welp. :V
it already comes late enough to not redeem Geomancer at all but it extra-doesn't now lol
At least I was just bringing it here as a "huh this is interesting" anyway. :V

Last night it was pointed out that the total number of berserkers in the berserker tree was pretty much equal to the number of BERSERKER RISK participants, so I doubled up my original donation. This morning at work I also tried to use my company's matching gifts program, which would effectively quadruple my original donation, but I learned that companies can be particular about what money goes where and mine didn't let it go through as Child's Play did not meet the criteria for matching contributions due to the type of charity it was. I learned a lot about such programs and how some companies handle them and what EIN means and stuff but it still didn't happen. I dunno maybe somebody else's company would be willing and they could double their own contribution. Might be worth it to look it up if you can because I think other people elsewhere mentioned it working for them.
In short I love you puppers very dearly and tried to force feed you 'zerkers but my attempt only worked so well. Also look up your company's matching donations program.

ohoho anglesister also registered for a Chaos run~
Wonder which of us will have the more hilarious team. Too bad there's no way MJP will play a 90s JRPG so we can't be a full Fiesta household :ohdear:
Meanwhile I'm a bit perplexed with the start times. Assuming I am mathing right, THE RUN starts Saturday at 11am EST but the Fiesta "official" start time isn't for another 36 hours after that? I know they build in a little buffer time, and the kickoff is really whenever the streamers beat the game but I don't think it was that long last year.
-
I mean to be fair pretty sure RK needs to throw the mostly-metaphorical switch manually and he's in Japanland but that still shouldn't be 24+ hours of delay. :V
-
Signed up for a Chaos run. Might consider streaming but it'll be amateurish at best. :V

LET'S SEE IF I CAN GET DANCER FOR THE FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR
bby nu no one deserves to endure that much RNG. :ohdear: :ohdear:

It's the most ~*~fashionaaaaabluh~*~ of RNG at least!
I'm 2 for 3 on Bard and Dancer myself what's this year gonna bring?
EDIT: OH BBY DRAGONDARCH WIPED POST WING RAPTOR WITHOUT SAVING RIP

Yeah that was a bit painful to witness. Rip in pieces.
Anyone got more cashmoneys to throw at the donation box? We are still hanging around 1 berserker per riskee.

Anyone got more cashmoneys to throw at the donation box? We are still hanging around 1 berserker per riskee.
I already threw in two. :(
Though one dude in the SA thread+IRC channel has pledged to pay:
- $500 if Dragondarch wins the race (lol ain't happening)
- $100 if Dragondarch gets the final blow on NED with Goblin Punch
- $750 if Dragondarch's run gets mercykilled
- $250 if Dragondarch is still in the meatfort when someone finishes
Also 3 and 4 stack if he gets mercykilled in meatfort.
Not sure if it'll be in in time to seed the berserker trees if any of those do happen though. D:

1050 Berserkers and Dragondarch still has to beat the final boss.
Seriously that jumped about 2k in a hurry.

So late....wait...they just recently put that up on the blog. I'm surprised on that one.
Can't wait for my painful run now.
Missed Teh Urn. Now I just wait for the Fiesta to start.

1050 Berserkers and Dragondarch still has to beat the final boss.
Seriously that jumped about 2k in a hurry.
Someone pledged $500 for every player who beat Omega and Shinryu. They all did, so!
ALSO IT BEGINS, GO CHECK YOUR CLASS
I got Ninja, so IT'S FREELANCING TIME.
-
Ninja as well.
Loaded up my Post-Karnak Explosion Save
TIME TO WORLD 1 GRIND BEFORE I UPGRADE!!
-
This is why I'm sorta wavering on whether or not I will be signing up for BERSERKER RISK. I already did this once with a berserker and all in all it was good but there's still a bunch of classes I haven't touched upon yet.
AND GUESS WHO GOT BERSERKER FOR THEIR FIRST CLASS?!
Edit: Oh dear this is yet another year without traditional healing this can only end poorly.
-
Dragoon Unknown Unknown Unknown
That's on Chaos No 750 Risk
My team can only have Dragoon, Samurai, and Berserkers. Berserker will almost certainly be in the water slot and who knows where else? So I almost certainly get quadzerk Liquid Flame(I actually have done this before) and Sandworm (why?). I could still wuss and do Upgrade to avoid that, but then I could end up quadzerked endgame, so I'll :dealwithit:
-
Black Mage Butz. Potential Gaia Hammer shenanigans since I took Risk but I also took Natural so nope to that :V

Chaos.
Chaos has changed.
(Jobs are no longer ordered based on crystals. Enjoy your extra freelancing while you can!)
-
So there may be some hope for my run yet then. Come on, I need a Ranger for Rapid Fire on Omega. At least I can still safely use a postwater crystal save when I start.
-
So Liquid Flame with 4 Knights is slightly horrifying. Let's hope that Gilgabot rewards my patience with-

Ah, well. Whatever.

OK, that's game, now let's see how many Berserkers I get.
-
Dragoon, Berserker, Berserker, Unknown
Managed to defeat Liquid Flame first attempt. Tip for anyone that has to do that fight with quadzerk is make sure you have some party members with HP that isn't divisible by 4 so you can potentially get another hit from Blaze before dying.
Going to have to get that Sandworm grind soon. And it's looking very unlikely that I will be killing Omega in this run.
Edit: First try on both library bosses as well. Currently level 22, but I'm sure I'll get a bit of levels while grinding Death Sickles and money.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/s1uRNXd.jpg)
OK, I didn't need to do this to Galura, but it just amuses me to think of Exdeath possessing a toad.
And my prize? Of course it's a Berserker.
-
Started with Knight, been a slow start because boy do I have too many video games to play since this week began.
Knights pretty fun. Yeah.
spent all my money on bronze. Yep.
on another note, I completely forgot about Chaos runs since they changed the rules to just be "You get jobs." Seriously that's all it says for the rule. I find it pretty hilarious.
-
Man, Siren's sure a pain when you ain't got no white magic and forget to backrow your black mage.
-
on another note, I completely forgot about Chaos runs since they changed the rules to just be "You get jobs." Seriously that's all it says for the rule. I find it pretty hilarious.
To be fair that was all it said last year too. :V
Dancer/Dragoon/Beastmaster/... Beastmaster. I job faired that second one to Chemist so I can play with the shiny busted toys for once.
Still gonna keep "not taking your shit" Blue Mage Faris for avatar though.
-
Aaaand I got the Water Crystal, and it's BERSERKER PARTY!!!!
Along the way Siren sure is tough, with protect and Undead form, and her Undead form hurts a lot. And I'm stuck with very little potion and some phoenix down. Garula was very easy thanks to whip given by Magissa, it ain't moving the whole fight!
NOW LET'S PARTY!
-
Monk/Berserker/Bard/Dragoon. May having Bard save me from too much of a Bad Time.
-
And my third job is Beastmaster. Death to all ancient robots!
Karnak escape trolled me hard though, and I had to break rods on sergeants that wouldn't let me run away.
-
I got berserker for the wind crystal and samurai for the water crystal. Considering that this means that I'll have to plow through AT LEAST Liquid Flame with 4 zerkers, I'm seriously considering just rolling the rest of my jobs, but I dunno exactly how much I want to go through with bending the rules like this. At least I mapped out a fast forward button. :(
-
Garula report: Good thing I could steal some mythril swords in the tower. Made him less bad by a bit.
ALSO: I have a thief. Where's the best place to get money in World 1? I am eyeing those rings.
-
ok gilgabot
it was funny when you handed me dancer last night. real funny! i laughed immensely. now please give me a class with some sort of magical coverage.
...what did i do to wrong you gilgabot
-
ALSO: I have a thief. Where's the best place to get money in World 1? I am eyeing those rings.
That would be the forest of Wild Nakks right outside Karnak, for most people at least.
-
Wild Nakk encounters give 625 gil.
That would be enough for Karnak but it won't be enough for Ronkan Ruins. Would try some other source... A !Steal list would help a lot to pinpoint valuable items to sell or collect.
EDIT: Changed gold to gil because ff lol.
-
Yeah, I'd like to avoid 320 Wild Nak encounters if possible. But I suppose emulator speedup exists for a reason.
In other news:
Queen Karnak: You must get to the Fire Crystal, it is just behind this room! Hurry!
LIGHT WARRIORS: Oh man, we have like 5 potions left.
*LIGHT WARRIORS go back to town buy 94 more.
-
A !Steal list would help a lot to pinpoint valuable items to sell or collect.
Garlyle's handbook in the OP had a steal list, that's what I'm going to be utilizing.
-
Speaking of, I managed to steal a Gaia Gear from a Sorcerer in Karnak Castle. Unusual!
-
Chaos Upgrade
And what's my first job?
Bard.

-
Chaos Upgrade
And what's my first job?
Bard.
Again.
Literally every year
Enjoy probably grinding out the entirety of Bard in the span between Crescent and Sandworm so you can move on to not Bard? :V
-
Or if you REALLY are sick of Bard #upgrade after Garula and skip it altogether :V
-
... also an option yeah I didn't even think about it! But !Sing is pretty fantastic and Bard's one of the cheaper jobs to master (and sadly !Sing is last so we are talking mastery).
-
World 2 complete!
Exdeath was not fun. Everyone got one-shot by Vacuum Wave, and Zombie Breath was basically a guaranteed run ender ;w; My endgame plan consisted of getting throw on multiple characters and just chucking everything.
-
Finished World 1, and
Dragoon/Berserker/Berserker/Berserker
I had so much luck on every BS boss fight in the first world. Liquid Flame first try, Byblos first try. Asked one of the people who did quadzerk last year their level for Sandworm(42 but said it could have been around 5 levels lower considering the RNG), so I went in at 38 for a somewhat serious attempt and first try(I did try some at level 34 since someone was wondering how much damage I would do, but that wasn't a serious attempt). Soul Cannon first try because both launchers hit Galuf and I got decent damage rolls.
Not sure if I can beat Omega. Jump with Trident can do damage, but that's a low power weapon, so I'm not sure how much damage you can get at high level.
-
Doing a normal upgrade run, so I took the Knights past Byblos so I can grind them
Got Berserker, obviously, so I decided I would grind them up too (thank you emulator speedup)
Then I got Ninjas.
8xDoomsickles :toot:
-
It took me three episodes of Welcome to Nightvale and weighing down the fast forward button, but it is done. Four Flame Rings get.
-
so uhh is it against the rules to refuse your Earth job during upgrade runs?
I'm not sure I want to transition to a phase where I have to choose between Dual Wield and Knight Swords.
-
Nope, you can refuse getting the job.
-
Yeah the official word basically worked out to "C'mon, you're no fun. But yeah it's legit."
-
WOAH everyone's so far along!
930 wild nakks gave their lives to fuel my berserkers' conquest of the fire-powered ship. I have enough money to buy a small country, but I survived! Fire crystal job is red mage. After berserker and samurai, it's nice to see some utility. Maybe there's a bit of synergy for a rune axe user? Still dunno how potent their magic can get in the late game, but I still have a rod user and someone with white magic.
-
Help me guys I'm protected by a firewall codenamed Liquid Flame and I don't want to be protected! The threat is named Berserker and I want them to bypass the firewall! Please help!
-
Are you doing all berserkers? Then you might just have to slaughter a lot of wild nakks.
If you have something that isn't berserkers among them, maybe blind them until the tornado form is out of mp?
-
I'm stuck with berserkers until I can get the Fire Crystal, so yeah...
-

I just had to do the same. Once all 4 of my berserkers had their optimal equipment from Karnak, I started grinding until I hit level 21. Grinding is easy, especially on the wild nakks in the woods outside Karnak, because the nakks do peanuts for damage on a fully equipped party of berserkers. Mind you, you may need to grind to level 22 or 23. I barely squeaked by Liquid Flame, as Galuf was the only survivor of the fight and had a scant 2 hp left. It's still possible though, and I wager you'll have a similar experience. Godspeed, mooncat!
-
Just think of it as investing in future absorption rings!
-
Yeah I got more than 100k from the whole experience. I bought up a ton of healing and stat cure items and still have enough left over for a couple of rings.
EDIT: Having a red mage gives me access to a couple dirty tricks, including the means with which to hit Shinryu with berserk. Do any of you local experts know if there's a way I can get him with blind too? Wonder rod maybe?
DOUBLE EDIT: WHOOPS I can read nevermind. I think I need to luck out with a small list of classes for blind. Might have to pursue other options or pray to RNGsus that a berserked Shinryu can't get past my damage dealers' shields and elven mantles. Maybe some mirage vest magic, too.
Hmm. I also wonder how viable a redmagezerker and a critical hitting samurai will be against Omega.

I have been adding to my tally of completely unnecessary status humiliations on bosses.
Byblos - Thrown into the Void!
Ramuh - Paralyzed
Crayclaw - Blinded
Adamantoise - Gravitied
But now, my last job has arrived, and it's a Knight. Which is not a Berserker...*sigh*
-
Might have to pursue other options or pray to RNGsus that a berserked Shinryu can't get past my damage dealers' shields and elven mantles. Maybe some mirage vest magic, too.
> shields
Thief knife a Genji Shield off Voidamesh. Mini someone and then throw the shield on them. (Genji Shield prevents mini so it has to be that order.) 100% dodge.
You'll be doing anemic damage because of the mini unless you roll something like mystic knight or a real mage on the final crystal but you can't die. For extra fun give your Red Mage Equip Katanas so they get initiative and use your first turn to swap to that Power Staff to boop the snoot, it's what I did last year. :V
-
You can die doing that. Evasion is capped at 99%. You'd have to get pretty unlucky, but I have been hit through 99% evade and killed during solo runs.
-
Thanks for the info. It may come down to a lot of patience and a little luck, but it's a feasible strategy. There's still a chance that my final class could assist in some form, but I think dodge-tanking will be a legit strategy.

Final levels were 36-37. My Exdeath strategy can be summarised as 'grind money until I have 25 Fuma Shurikens then let physics/Sword Dance do the rest'. :V
-
You can die doing that. Evasion is capped at 99%. You'd have to get pretty unlucky, but I have been hit through 99% evade and killed during solo runs.
Oh bah why is this literally the first time I heard this but yeah I dug through the algorithms guide.
Make Mirage Vest your shied guy's body armor so if you do get hit you can refresh glitch. NOW you can't die. :V
-
Welp, I need to finish this run, but I wanna see my other jobs.
Started with Ninja so it can't get too bad.

Zerker
Welp. Least I defeated Omega and Shinryu before I had to deal with Neo...but now I gotta grind for Neo and do yet another Quadzerker victory against him.
-
At least you can use double the axes? :V
-
That's actually going to be helpful for Neo for my Zombiezerkers to heal me. I knew I was guaranteed Zerkers so I prepared Death Sickles just in case.
-
Okay Bit the bullet and switched to Earth Job at the beginning of World 3, and I got Samurai again.
might do a 750 Run after this one.
-
Wheeeeeee
(http://i.imgur.com/qj0R1bO.png)
My first ever triple crown too, though I only got the drop screens capped because my emu was being a fuckup at Omega and Shinryu does the dumb random encounter dissolve. Shinryu I've swung before but Omega I never had both "good damage" and "can neuter him" at the same time.
I'll probably reg for another run once this is processed, not sure what sort; I doubt I'll plow through it nearly as quickly though, Axel I ain't. :P

Though if you're on GBA/SNES, by the time you beat Sandworm, the only thing you'll be needing to grind is equipment drops or steals.
I finished maingame on my Dragoon + Trizerk and defeated Shinryu both at level 44(forgot about level 2 Old and happened to get there at 44 but was too lazy to go back and grind to 47 at that point). Hermes Sandals Dragoon jumping with Dragon Lance and Berserkers(Coral Ring + either Ice or Aegis Shield) with Equip Lance for more Dragon Lances.
I only had 3 Dragon Lances though, not the full 4 like I wanted. Only had 1 Bone Mail too because I couldn't get the rare steal on Thief Knife for it. And 3 Ice Shields at the time of Shinryu, but that one was thankfully just a rare drop. Took me some time to rare steal 2 Aegis Shields to bring me to 4 after counting the ones you pick up in chests.
Equip Lances and Equip Axes are the only useful skills to transfer between those 2 classes.
With those Dragon Lances, I was able to prevent Grand Cross from even happening. And the berserkers were nice about spreading the damage, so I didn't have to deal with an enraged final part.
I was considering saying screw Omega, but I'm going for it. I now have Bartz, Lenna, and Krile KO'd and am solo grinding Faris(her balanced agility/strength stat made me choose her, but maybe not the best choice, but too late now). Faris is currently level 76, which is still not enough. I need to check what the final multiplier before level 99 is because I don't want to get to 99 unless it gets me a multiplier.
-
Had a slow start due to time constraints but im finally making progress after spending all morning playing. I like my job setup so far. My last one will probably be something I won't want i can feel it. I have Blue, Mystic, and Beast so far.
-
>Finally gets back to FFV (trust me the NoR LP has been taking up more of my gaming time than I thought)
>Cheeses Living Flame with Frost Rod, goes back to town and gets another Mythril Hammer quickly expecting to get another Berserker
>Fire Job: Bard
...I'll take it? But man, for a BERSERKER RISK, having a Blue Mage and a Bard is going to make this uh... not challenging.
-
I wonder if this party can handle gilgame or not?
-
Thanks for the info. It may come down to a lot of patience and a little luck, but it's a feasible strategy. There's still a chance that my final class could assist in some form, but I think dodge-tanking will be a legit strategy.
As it turns out this is all a moot point because I got chemist for my last job, giving me a way to blind Shinryu. An Omega win is in there somewhere too I think. Downside: Last year turtle shells and dragon fangs proved to be indispensable and those are best gotten from drops. AND with a red mage on top of that, grinding, ho!
-
3rd job is
crayola Time Mage awww yeah suck it walking out of dungeons like a chump. OH and that works with Thief in that I can just reset if I'm trying for a rare steal ohoho~

Aaaand as I grind for the upcoming Sandworm, some things I did:
Mini Dragons, while they're the best source of EXP, they have the tendency to cast Frostbite that deals around ~150 damage. They're a bit dangerous and can only be safely grinded with Flame Rings on.
Death Sickle sells for 2950 gil! This really helps for getting all the rings, just grind Harvesters continuously, even though it's rather shaky, at least we get the money to buy the rings.
Grinding continues...
EDIT: Now Level 32 and with 4 Flame Rings now mwahahahaha! Mini Dragons are not a problem anymore! But still can't beat Sandworm, I did 400-500 damage per hit with Ogre Killer, and I checked ~300 damage with Mage Masher and possibly ~400 with Main Gauche (can't confirm). A total of around 7 hits needed...
EDIT2: I'm level 33 and it doesn't go much better. Damage isn't much of an issue, as the luck factor really matters in this fight. I've gotten several lucky streaks and yet still can't land the final blow to this annoying Sandworm. Should I grind again or press on, praying to luck?

Oh whups I kinda two-rounded Melusine...

Not him, but I think the biggest bit of quadzerker wisdom is gained from taking a gander at Buttz' HP value :V
Meanwhile I have Team Almost Totally Broken with Mystic Knight, Thief, Time Mage, and Chemist . As ezmodo as that is 3 of those classes are dupes from prior years. This might be the first Fiesta I do a second run just to !Mix it up :V

I feel ya there. Blue Mage/Berserker/Bard/Geomancer is probably one of the best parties I've ever gotten, not counting the first year where I got almost practically that same team you have (I forget who I had instead of Time Mage), so I'm sure as hell giving this another run after.
Just made it to Drakenvale, on that note, after making good use of the usual Bal Castle Basement grinding just to get at least everything but Berserker done on everyone. Not like the job levels for my jobs give me a whole lot until later, but at least the money's good.

Here's an entire Reddit thread I made for Quadzerker (https://www.reddit.com/r/ff5fjf/comments/4o65ex/quadzerker_tips_for_this_who_need_to_do_it/)
There you go :V
I don't recommend the GBA version for Quadzerker honestly.
-
Really, quadzerker is going to be a numbers game however you run it. It's just a matter of odds and how each version affects those odds.
Aw yeah! Team OP![/url]
Aw yeah go Team OP. It's just so nice to see things work out so well.

Finally updated my avatar. I did something different this year and reveal all my jobs beforehand before playing through the game. Why? Well, for one, I already completed two playthroughs the "regular" way (that is, reveal the jobs when you visit each Crystal), so I wanted to try something different. Second, I figure it'll be easier to plan my path through the game and skip what I don't need if I reveal my jobs instead of waiting to get the crystals. of course I now realize how silly that is since the jobs aren't that spread out over the course of the game whoops
Regardless, let's see what I'm gonna play with this time around!
Eeep. Not having access to a Wind Crystal job early on hurts a bit, but after that it should be mostly smooth sailing. I'll have to do quite a bit of grinding to get some Rods to smash over the heads of a few bosses, but once I get MK...Oh, that's when it gets fun. I always was a fan of magical weapon users, and having access to elemental weaknesses and Break Blade will make a lot of bosses a cakewalk. Geomancer...is a bit odd, but I'll have hazard protection and a few dungeon-specific spells to play with. Dancer will probably be my Chicken Knife user, MK will be my muscle and the others will be on spellcasting duty.
And yes, I am aware of the Quick/Poison Rod trick. I am not using it on the bonus bosses. That just completely ruins the challenge since all you literally have to do after casting the rod is wait. I dunno about you, but I'd like a more satisfying boss fight than that. :V I'd also have to wait quite a while to get a proper kill shot and that's dumb
I'll start my run tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Version makes a pretty big difference honestly.

IN YO FACE SANDWORM!!!! I got to lv 38 just for this one stupid worm!

EDIT: Got Black Mage for the last job, this will be smooth sailing.

As someone who has never played FF5 before, I heard it isn't too late to get started on this, and it also sounds like a perfectly good reason to try it out for the first time. Before I do that though, I did notice there are a number of versions of the game available... would any certain version be recommended for a new player, or might I be able to just pick up any of them and get started? (edit: might be relevant, I've played most of the series before, so I'm just new to FF5, not FF as a whole)
I guess I've got a bit more reading up to do, so I should get that down too.
-
I like the GBA version because its translation is fun.
Also, I should feel bad for soloing Omniscient with Faris and a reflect ring, but I don't.
What I do feel is that Cid and Mid ungrading airships is one of the unsung treasures of the game, and it should be a screen saver.
-
Between SNES and GBA, I can think of these differences off the top of my head
Berserker is better in SNES because of a glitch that lets them deal silly damage instead of underwhelming.
In SNES, some bosses have dummy targets that attract the attacks that randomly target, such as all of Berserker's attacks and Meteor. If something targets these, you don't deal any damage.
In GBA, Beastmaster has an ability that doesn't work as described; instead, I think it is guaranteed to Stop anything that isn't immune to Stop (even a certain bonus boss!)
In SNES, Chemist can break any boss because one of their status affliction Mixes bypasses immunities to that status.
Blue Mage is a little stronger in GBA because Vampire deals damage equal to all your missing HP instead of just half.
In GBA, the Time spell "Mute" can trivialize (or make easier) a certain boss battle, while in SNES it's done with a well-timed Silence.
You can run away in GBA if all your living members are afflicted with Berserk. Pretty large one there.
-
I'm going to recommend the GBA one as well. Also don't fret too much about the type of run you do too much. Once you have your jobs you can figure out how to make them work. There are a ton of strategies for every class out there.
-
Thanks for the input guys, looks like GBA it is for me. Think I'll be getting started somewhere within the next few days, can't wait to see what kind of craziness I end up with. But knowing my luck... haha, I only hope Gilgabot will be merciful. Well, I'm willing to take whatever is thrown at me.

My first FF5 clear was also my first Fiesta clear. I rolled Monk, Red Mage, Ranger, and Samurai. Not the best class lineup, but Ranger made it a bit easier thanks to RapidFire. So, as long as you do your research on the classes you get, you should be fine. You can always use the Job Fair if you dislike a particular class.

He's catching onto Death By Math. Everyone, adjust your levels accordingly!

I prepared in advance, level 29 is prime. :V

I prepared in advance, level 29 is prime. :V
Good on you! :D I think levels 27, 31, 33 and 37 also work since they aren't divisible by 2 or 5.
...Wait doesn't Exdeath have lv3 Flare and lv4 Gravity? o.o
-
...I think everyone misunderstood that I landed L2 Old and L5 Death on EXDEATH, not him on me. Lol
But yeah no he only has L3 Flare and L4 Gravity last time I checked. He does not have L2 Old and he DEFINITELY doesn't have L5 Death. :V
-
Naw I got ya, I know I at least was just kidding around. Don't death by math us. ;)
-
Death by Math will be metted out to those who deserve it. Nobody doing the Fiesta does.
I wish I could Death by Math my enemies in NoR though but that's just wishful thinking, oh well. :V

I wonder if there is a legit way for me to scam Omega and/or Shinryu dead that doesn't involve a thousand and one resets?
-

What's your team? I remember Black Mage, so right there is your damage for Omega. And with the Wonder Wand from Fork Tower, you can Berserk Shinryu and make him easy :V
-
As I Fiesta-ing, I just realized I have overwritten my original save.
RIP everything I had there. Though to be honest I still haven't played the Advance Bonus Dungeon yet, so there's that.
Fiesta-ing also made me do the whole thing faster, so it's not quite a loss...
-

Black Mage, Two Knights, and a Thief; Classic.
Thing about Omega is I kinda need to abuse Firaga to even start to deal with the wave cannons.
-
Black Mage, Two Knights, and a Thief; Classic.
Thing about Omega is I kinda need to abuse Firaga to even start to deal with the wave cannons.
There's 2 methods I recommend for this one.
1: Put a Reflect Ring on your Black Mage, Thief, and 1 of your Knights. Have the other Knight with Hermes Sandals, Diamond Helmet, and Aegis Shield. Have Black Mage reflect Thundagas off your party while the others serve as Heal bots. Have Wonder Wand queued up to use Shell so you can reduce the damage from Thundaga on the Knight even further. The non-Hermes Sandal'd Knight and Thief can be Zombied to make this easier(Less healing items to use and health to watch), just make sure to unequip their weapons.
2: Zombie all 3 of Non-Black Mages while they have a Reflect Ring on, and give your Black Mage Hermes Sandals, Sages Surplice, and a Thunder/Magus Rod. Same as the previous strat, queue up Shell and put it on your Black Mage, to help reduce a lot of the damage they may take. Keep an eye on your HP when doing this and only reflect Thundaga off your party when you are certain you'll be alive when your next turn comes up so you can heal.
Bring plenty of Hi Potions and Elixirs for both strats.
I more recommend Strategy 2 since I've had more success with that one than one. It's not a fun strategy, but it's your best bet for surviving Omega.
For Shinryu, put your party into Critical HP, except 1 Knight, use Wonder Wand to cast Berserk on Shinryu, and have your Non-Critical Knight use Guard to negate all the physical damage from Shinryu. Have fun murdering him after that.
-
That's Shinryu down, thank you Axel!
As for Omega Stat 2, how many elixirs do you recommend? I have about 30 right now. Also, where's a good place to get zombied?
-
30 should be enough.
So for your other 3 characters, make sure they have no weapons and a Reflect Ring on. Get them killed off and fight the Sword Dancers in the Dimensional Castle. They cast Dance Macabre on a dead party member to turn them into a zombie.
-
So with everything settled, I can now tackle the Rift.
I have bought all accessories except one Hermes Sandals and one Coral Ring.
Team Dragoon - Berserker - Berserker - Black Mage
Any other things worth mentioning? I think this team is capable of taking out Exdeath and Shinryu, but what about Omega?
Omega has always been a headache in every game.
Oh yeah about the save file thing, turns out I still have a backup save, so I'm saved.
...That's a bad pun.

Omega's doable. Just refer to my strats about. You can use Dragoon to fight as well by Jumping with Trident, but it's only going to be about 2000ish damage. Still, it's something.

Can you say "Romeo's Ballad spam"? I think I can. He only ever got Delta Attack, Wave Cannon, and one Flame Thrower off.
EDIT: (http://puu.sh/pyySA/21bd7f98f5.png)
And that's all she wrote. I could try Shinryu but I think I'll skip out on the Triple Crown. I feel more like starting a new run. Haven't tried it before, so I'll do it now: Chaos run go!
-
Run #2. Chaos 750
Finally got the Bard I'd been waiting to roll in a fiesta for a while now. Also a Dancer.
And I'll just roll all 4 for once and get it over with. Even though I usually wait until the crystal.
So Bard/Dancer/Chemist/Geomancer
Even though I'll have Geomancer of course, I'll still be ignoring it until I get to Earth Crystal since that's when it was rolled. So 4 Bards vs. Soul Cannon is going to be an issue.
-
Oh lord trying to get through Omega is a nightmare. ;_;
Edit: It is done. I abused the everloving fuck out of save states. It was the only way; it was like playing a visual novel where 4/5 choices kill you and delete your save otherwise. And it came down to the wire, only Lenna was unbanished by the end.
Again I would like to thank AxelRyman, because goddamn I wouldn't have figured this out on my own.

You do know that save stating mid battle is illegal right? This means you still don't legally beat Omega
...Not that Gilgabot cares anyway.
-
Well shitballs. Guess there won't be a triple crown this year, because fuck that is not happening naturally, given even a second's delay changes everything.

Do you happen to have the save file for your Omega fight? Not the Save State but the actual save?
Idea I just had was to use a video to show some of the strats in action for all the help threads I've made.
-
Sure!
This should be it? https://www.dropbox.com/s/5turti5scsfj5j2/2564%20-%20Final%20Fantasy%20V%20Advance%20%28U%29%28Independent%29.sa1?dl=0
-
Haven't seen an extension like that before.
Which emulator are you running? If it's VBA then what version, since my VBA saves are either .sav for the save, or sgm for Save States
Edit: Nevermind, I just had to change it to .sav
Working on a video now!
-
VBA 1.8
And that's weird, because I wasn't sure which the save thinger was, so I yanked out files from the folder then started the game to see which caused the saves to vanish. And .sgm didn't do it. Here's the sgm too, though: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3u1ktc817qvjy5c/2564%20-%20Final%20Fantasy%20V%20Advance%20%28U%29%28Independent%29.sg1.SGM?dl=0
EMULATORS ARE WEIRD.

I think Gilgabot has it out for me this year.
@Purvis C. Tycoon
I just realized I made a number of mistakes in my strategy for you. Instead of Magus Rod, Chicken Knife would be better for your Thundaga castings. At the same time, more levels would make this a bit more bearable so your Black Mage has a decent amount of HP. I recommend maybe 1850ish, closer to 2000 if possible, since this will let you get out more attacks better. Last but not least, instead of Sage's Surplice, you can just use Black Robe. I usually recommend Sages Surplice because of Silence from Rainbow Wind, but honestly, it's not that big a deal. It just means you can't spellcast for a while. Though every time I got hit by it, I never got hit with the Silence. Black Robe gives you some really good Magic Defense as well.
-
Finally got my first job for my Chaos run. And it's... Bard. I guess I gotta face the music again.
-
Enjoy your party of Freelancers until then! Whips will be your best friend for Garula (1 for one) and Byblos (1 for each!). ...Well, okay, the chances of you not winding up with any post-black-chocobo classes until then are pretty slim, but hey you could get Beastmaster, and it would still kinda apply.
-
I can handle a party of Freelancers, plus I read Sulla's solo Freelancer guide forever ago since the run idea is pretty neat (one I want to do myself some day), so I know some of the tips and tricks for handling up to the Water Crystal and even up to the Fire Crystal if need be.
-
Honestly, Freelancing up to the Water Crystal is easier than it is with most of the Wind Crystal jobs anyway, esp. once you beat Magissa and get a bunch of gear you can't normally use yet. And all four characters can break rods if you need to on Magissa or Liquid Flame. Bard before it gets good songs is a downgrade :V:V
-
...That reminds me, I completely forgot there was even a rod sitting around in Carwin that can totally be broken over Magissa's head. Well time to go grab that so I don't break my face just swinging Long Swords at her face all day. >_>;;;
EDIT: ...Or by the time I went up and down North Mountain three times, I end up getting another attack multiplier and doing it without the Frost Rod. Well that happened.
EDIT 2: Serela, you said something about not getting another post black chocobo job? Well, guess whose Water job was Ranger? Go on, guess.
-
Speaking of breaking rods, I made the very horrifying realization that Time Magi don't actually get offensive spells until the second world. So, I have to rely on Rods and Flails for damage until Dancer becomes available. When I break a Frost/Flame/Thunder Rod, does it just hit a single foe or is it cast on all enemies at once?
-

It's an all-enemies spell, but I don't think the usual group damage split happens with rods.
-
Axel: Yeah, I switched over to a Lamia Tiara to squeeze out a bit more mag defense, as well. I was wondering about silence, but it didn't seem like something worth risking. What does the Chicken Knife do for Thundaga, though?
Also, I tried to use Carbuncle to get reflect, but I guess Omega can strip that out.
-

Chicken Knife gives a +5 Agility, which means you can get your turns in a bit faster. A Booster Thundaga would deal around 700-800 damage, which, at 1575 HP, is going to get you killed. Without the boost, you lose around 500, enough to survive a Wave Beam.
Reflect wears off over time when you cast it as a spell or summon Cabuncle. That's why reflect rings are more recommended since you don't have to waste a turn or 4 to recast it.
-
So my strat for Omega is this (BM only):
1. Axel Ryman's 2nd strat, 1st strat untested, but could be viable.
2. MAKE SURE YOU EQUIP CHICKEN KNIFE FIRST BEFORE FACING OMEGA
3. Immediately change to Wonder Wand and cast Shell
4. Reflect Thundaga
5. Omega should Wave Cannon
6. After a Wave Cannon and a move you should heal to above 50% hp, this should be easier with chemist's Pharmacology passive (which I don't have)
7. After Omega Wave Cannons Reflect Thundaga again, just watch out for your hp, you must have 50% after Omega makes another move
8. Rinse and repeat, and pray Omega doesn't use anything targeting your BM and Earthquake or Atomic Bomb. (Though with Shell Atomic Bomb shaves off ~1000HP)
Yet I still can't defeat Omega, because I lack Elixirs to survive when I count how much Thundaga I need to destroy Omega. A Thundaga Reflect shaves off ~4000HP while Omega has 55000, I need 14 casts of Thundaga, that means around 20 Elixirs needed.

Keep in mind the damage from Flamethrower and Atomic Ray as well. They deal around 1000 damage, so make sure you have enough HP to survive that, and you're fast enough to get another turn to heal before Omega uses Wave Cannon.
You'll definitely need more Elixirs. 30 I say is the minimum but it also depends how many turns you're going through.
Oh and pray he doesn't use Atomic Ray often. That's about 4000 HP of a heal to Omega when it's reflected off your party.
-
Also if he does Encircle or Blaster, the whole thing goes to hell. He will do Encircle and/or Blaster. =[
I've got my Black Mage up to 2000 HPs, and that's really what's wrecking me now. That and Delta Attacks.
Oh, you can get Float on to deal with Earthquakes, though. But you need to go to North Mountain with a Dancing Dagger. Then you just have to pop a temptation tango on a Gaelicat and wait and hope.
-
I just consulted Sage Garlyle's book of success.
Omega has a cycle like most superbosses do (except Ozma from FFIX, I think?)
1 - Atomic Ray, Delta Attack, or Blaster (hope it's not Atomic Ray, it murders you on the very first turn, and hope the others doesn't target your BM either)
2 - Surge Beam (cast Thundaga)
3 - Rainbow Wind, Emission, or Atomic Ray (Elixir)
4 - Surge Beam (Thundaga)
5 - Two Actions in a row:
Delta Attack, Blaster, or Surge Beam (Hope it's not Surge Beam and hope it doesn't target your BM)
Maelstrom, Quake, or Rainbow Wind (If Maelstrom, Elixir, Quake is Game Over without Float, Hope the last thing don't hit your BM)
6 - "Targetting" (Turns attacks against itself next turn) (THUNDAGA)
7 - Rainbow Wind, Emission, or Atomic Ray (Elixir)
8 - Surge Beam (THUNDAGA)
Also if I use my Dragoon, then the BM can care less about Thundaga-ing the Dragoon, I just have to pray that Omega doesn't fuck the BM up...
Counters all damaging attacks with two actions; likely Rocket Punch but can also do Mustard Bomb or Circle (Just hope they don't target the BM)
EDIT: Nope, not doing Omega anymore, it's rage inducing.
EDIT2: I defeated Shinryu instead.
The trick for this is not using Coral Ring at all. Equip Hermes Sandals on all, then equip the Chicken Knife to BM for speed. Enter the battle, change to Wonder Wand w/ Berserk, hit him, and then pray that he misses a lot, with helpings of Phoenix Downs.
EDIT3: Neo Exdeath down.
Now should I start a new run or finish Omega, I'm towards the former.
-
I've lost count of how many attempts I've made. I'm so tired. So very tired.
I wish I could survive maelstrom, but wave cannon's HP drain always makes it fatal ;_;
-
Going for Classic run now, bye Omega, you will never be touched unless I get OP jobs in the next run.
Thief, Monk, Black Mage, AND White Mage
Veeeeery nice, although I lament the lack of Knight.
...aaaaand I lost the previous run's save, although I still have a backup in that one. Me and my paranoid self, it's still there.

Have fun doing Quadzerker if you use that

Yeaaaaaahhhh... I'll pass
What I learned this year is DO NOT Chaos Berserker Risk.
Also BM + Berserker + Rune Axe has OP damage

It's not, I'm glad. I'm curious if Freelancer's in the rotation now.

It's not, I'm glad. I'm curious if Freelancer's in the rotation now.
Same, on both counts. If I get around to finishing my current run (real good party but I tend to run out of steam hard past my first run each year, been busy too) I'm totally regging Pure Chaos.
EDIT: Thing I forgot to mention earlier, speaking of Freelancers, someone in the SA channel had the brilliant idea of job fairing your Earth crystal in an Upgrade run to Freelancer or Mime. This seems kinda tasty.
-
EDIT: Oh whoops I can read. Nevermind.
People are getting mimes and freelancers in #REGPURECHAOS though.
-
I was gonna be fancy and post images of my run, but I forgot to actually take pictures. :V So I'll just post the hardships of my run so far:
-Fighting Siren was kinda tedious; I was stuck tossing potions at her during the undead portion of the fight.
-For once, I didn't end the Garula fight with someone at critical health!
-tfw you realize Time Mages don't get an actual offensive spell until the second world...Good thing Flails exist and knife damage with Time Magi isn't complete arse. wild nakks also have less than 100 HP so killing them isn't too hard
- ...The above also helped a bit because I had to bludgeon the hand!Liquid Flame since it was immune to all elements. :T
-My previous Castle Karnak run was stressful. This was not. I even got to skip Iron Claw! :D
-Sandworm had to be out-damaged by rod spam, because Quicksand sucks.
-It turns out that Flamethrowers are NOT weak to thunder. Whodathunk?
-Archie had to be plinked to death in his final phase. Thank goodness for Haste!
With the warp to World 2 open, it's time to ask...Is there anything I should stock up on or pick up from World 1 before jumping to the next world? I got all the important stuff from Castle Karnak and Ronkan Ruins, but I'd like to be sure.
-
Since you have mages, probably should get some discount-priced Ethers from Lix, because after that... they're 1500 apiece. Also, more elemental rods; there's only Poison Rods in World 2...
Edit: My third run of this year's fiesta is here, and it's an interesting one! Welcome to Pure Chaos Upgrade.
Sadly, that still screenshot doesn't do the Pure Chaos icon cycling through jobs like Lord English's eyes cycle through billiard balls any justice. But, yes! Was completely with a team of Freelancers until I got the Black Chocobo... now have a team of Rangers running around.
-
First Pure Chaos run I did gave me Freelancer/Ninja/Samurai/Ranger
Happy 3 Job Fiesta :V
-
You say "3 job fiesta", but freelancer when you're actually allowed to switch jobs around is pretty god tier after you master a class. He turns into a ninja with omni-equip dual wield, x-fight, -and- another ability.
Of course, if you had less thrilling jobs it'd be less exciting, but for that turnout, daaaaamn. On "Natural" category though... ouch. Natural Mime would also be hilarious because, oops, uh, time to get used to only knowing how to !Mimic...! (Well, actually, they'd have !Fight and !Item unlocked by default come to think of it. But they've got a limited weapon selection and ouch stats, so you'd still be trying to mimic what you could.)
-

I am so tired and fighting Omega ;_;

Gilgabot says the truth
-
Except for my party last year which featured a knight and 3 others with no way to negate the flee chance. I was dishing out 5k damage every few seconds with a single character and ate up nearly every last random encounter until I beat up Shinryu.
-
Just finished my classic run.
Team: Thief Monk Black Mage White Mage
Monk is useless, pitiful damage, but can still give items to those in need.
The rest of the team are straight up damage dealers with Mugging Chicken (lowest damage by ~2000), Boosted Firaga (~3000) and Boosted Holy (~4000!)
Blink cheeses Shinryu like John Cena
(http://i.imgur.com/npIGKsO.png)
Haste, Protect, and Shell is essential, and Shell completely neuters Almagest. Downside is that I need to recast Protect and Shell for downed members.
Neo can only Grand Cross once before I nuked it to oblivion, and no fatal status is given. Victory is mine!
Bye Omega, I'm never touching you.

Don't blame you there. Omega in Classic runs is a horrible experience. That team can do it, but it is not worth the effort.
Finally started up my second run. I'm about to go get the ship, but I want to go kill some minidragons, a Prototype, and some Corbettes first before I get my bards, not sure how many rods I'll need to break for those. Jackanapes can wait until I have my other jobs. Or maybe I could farm some death sickles then use those as freelancer to kill it. You don't lose the ship until you enter the town after all, so I still wouldn't have Bard yet. technicalities :)
I am playing this run on the Steam release, and I want their bestiary data so that I can achievement hunt after beating the fiesta on it.
Edit: Quadbard start is horrible. I'm having to grind for levels for HP/damage, money for items and possibly equips, and Elixirs. Was able to beat Sandworm at around 20 because of it being in the front row while in the front hole on this version, but it still cost me over 10 Elixirs. And of course, unlike quadzerk, I don't do decent damage, so the grind takes even longer.
I may be stuck here for a while. I'm thinking Karnak is currently the best spot since I don't have enough damage to 1 shot Black Flames. Wolves give some okay money and the Zuu(which sadly can't appear in the same area with the wolves can give Elixir. Not only that, turtle shell drops for when I get Chemist.

That's dedication! I already stopped caring.
Here's to our Omega Oppressor, Purvis! (fanfare)

I was 100% obligated; I took down the prior tweet after yalls told me the win wasn't valid, but they had already counted it. So I had to make it happen. Also because yalls told me so much, it'd be mean to waste it all.
EDIT: (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cm2lzU_XYAAGunB.jpg)
I'm mad, Bartz got gibbed by a last second Vacuum Wave/Almagest combo.
Also weirdly enough, the berserk phase started before he was down to one piece. Didn't think that could happen.

EX-DEATH? MORE LIKE EX-DEAD! Here's what happened...Or...At least what I remember.
-The three Asteroid bosses weren't hard, save for Adamantoise. It ALMOST wiped me at the end when it dies, but Geo!Lenna had just enough HP to survive. Yay!
- ...I think the reason I don't remember that much about World 2 is because it was mostly a cakewalk. The Hiryuu Plant wasn't that hard, Atomos still refused to fall asleep (that or I did something wrong), and I ground for Four Reflect Rings that I used a grand total of once later on (on Catastrophe). Dem crystals, though...Graviga then copious castings of Comet flattened each crystal one by one, but I was worried when I either missed an attack or attacked the wrong target. I didn't have to worry about the Earth crystal however, because float. :V
- ExDeath was an Ex-Dick. I didn't think to stock up on Phoenix Downs, but I had enough to withstand ExDeath's instakill spells. Easily the longest, most grueling battle of the run.
- Melusine fell victim to Tempting Tango and took tons of Comets to the back.
- I decided to grind for a bit on statues, was able to buy a grand total of seven Elixirs. I did the rest of my grinding on Phoenix Tower and maxed out everyone's jobs.
- Wendigo was a bit of a butt, but he and Fork Tower fell to Chicken Knife-powered Sword Dances (seriously those should be illegal) and Silence Spellblade. :D Omniscient? More like Omnisilent!
- Odin took care of the Trench Triplets, easy peasy. I got the Air Knife from the Waterfall and made use of it during the final fight (for whatever it was worth)
- Calotisteri died in a horrible space rock avalanche.
- Apanda is very inaccurate with his magic.
- Azulmagia took a while, but thankfully he didn't use ??? or White Wind.
- Halicarnassus existed long enough to toad everyone except Dancer!Faris, then got ripped apart when he pulled her to the front row and took a max-damage Sword Dance to the face.
- Twintania sucks and I'm glad she(?) has such a glaring weakness to everything in Gigaflare form.
- Necrophobe also sucks, I have barely any elemental protection during the first phase of the fight, but I had plenty of Phoenix Downs!
- NED took a bit of effort. I was trying to avoid instakilling magic part, but that proved to be a bad idea. I probably should have gone with Elven Mantles instead of Protect Rings, that might of saved me a few KOs.
All in all... ExDeath (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/FJF2016Victory.png) was just another tweet on the wall. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/FJF2016EndSave.png) I enjoyed this run immensely, and I hope next year will be just as fun!
