Title: So I've started listening to some of the Touhou remixes
Post by: Ghaleon on August 26, 2009, 06:56:10 AM
I've heard about 8 different "albums" so to speak now of Touhou fan music. So far I must say it's quite good. Every remix I've actually seen on youtube that gets the addition is quite frankly god awful. But after giving them a real try I'm quite pleased. Currently I find Orin's theme "studioA japtext Be Of Good Cheer!" to be absolutely amazing.. too bad it's only 3:50 mins >=(. I'm not sure if the composer is refered to GMix or scapegoat...

ANYWAY, anybody able to suggest any other prog-esque remixes with no vocals? (I don't like prog rock normally, but who knows). I also got one from C70 titled ZCDS Magical Astronomy. Very good too...Actually is that more music from Zun himself? Seems too similar to Zun music to be a fan-made remix to me. The sounds/instruments used for example seem dead-on.

"Magical Astronomy" is one of ZUN's Original Music CDs.

Please refer to this (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Music_CDs) for more info.

yep. look the wiki, he has a few more albums like it.

as for other remixes, if you haven't heard =NeutraL='s remix of 3rd eye (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRGZJFN3Arw) and Youkai Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8yWYGp89s8), i suggest you listen to them. they're pretty much the only good arranges i've heard of them.

Everything by South of Heaven though their albums can be hard to find.

I don't know about no-vocal, but if you can stand vocals Yellow Zebra and Maikaze have some prog rock stuff.

The CROW'SCLAW album FROZEN FROG is classic rock-inspired, and some of them might fall into the category of prog rock.

I still reccomend MyonMyon x Pizuya's Cell albums, but don't get their latest one if you dislike screamo rock. Sounded terrible to me anyway.
Liking Crows Claw's new album though, even if it isn't touhou related.

My recommendations:

Francois' Yomogi Farm

Kanpyo
http://kanpyo.s229.xrea.com/musiccov.htm

Both sites are in Japanese.

Reasoning?  I happen to love them (and "love" is a relative term, as that means I like about half their stuff.  Any more is pretty much unheard of, for me).

.UI-70, Demetori, Ezel-Ash (standard rock, apart from Ezel-Ash, which uses a piano as one of the main instruments)
.dBu (electronica(?)/rock)
.Amane (Euro-Dance/Trance. the black sheep of my Touhou music collection)

theres a few bits and pieces from other groups i like, but they are the main groups i like

Holy yokai christ (or whatever Drake's line is lol), the sheer amount of quality jobs with these remixes is amazing. I'm very very picky about my music, and I'm actually enjoying these 3/4 of the time or so. Otherwise all I care to listen to is black metal and death metal and such (dislike prog rock too btw normally).

holy youkai jesus

Yes, I pretty much stick to ZUN's original compositions most of the time, but I agree that there are some remixes that I prefer over the originals, and quite a few are in this list.
