And now for something completely different.

I'm not sure what'd be more appropriate: a "Yo Dawg" joke or an "Inception" joke.

Oh yeah, this game is still in Beta, but the next demo won't be available for some time yet. Maybe I'll actually finish the game before then! :V

GOTTA GRAZE 'EM ALL! TOUHOUMON!
Welcome viewers, to Touhoumon Faith and Prayer. You may be looking at this and wondering, "is this another GBA hack?" Of course it's not, silly! This is actually a Touhoumon-themed fangame made in RPG Maker XP. However, it looks and plays almost identically to the GBA hacks, with a few changes taken from the Fourth and Fifth generations of Pokemon. There are plenty of other changes in this game too, but I'll explain them as we go through the game.
Before I begin, I'd like to announce that this LP is OPEN TO VIEWER PARTICIPATION! That means you guys can suggest nicknames for our 'Mons, choose who to put into our party, that sort of thing. All I ask is that you keep your suggestions sensible and safe for work. Furthermore, I am enforcing a spoiler policy on this LP, so please use those spoiler tags wisely!
Without further ado, let's start the game already!
...With some menu pr0n. The nice thing is that you can keep multiple save files, though when you save it only saves to the file you're currently playing. I'll discuss the options and Mystery Gift features later on.
Upon starting a New Game, we're greeted with this familiar face! Hi, Professor!
He explains that this is the world of "Monsekai," a realm populated by Pokemon and Puppets (or Boneka if you prefer that term). The game refers to both factions as Partners; I'll often refer to them as 'Mons, which is...well, what they are, collectable monsters. :V
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B13%5D.png)
Normally, explaining how the game works is my job, but this game has one thing I have that I do not...
INFOGRAPHICS! All the controls are self-explanatory, and also rebindable in the options menu (I changed the item key to the Spacebar, for instance). One key that is not mentioned here is the "Speed" key; when the S key is pressed, the game runs at double speed. Very helpful for grinding/farming for items, but it won't affect the in-game clock (so no fast Berries or day changes for you).
"Adventure" isn't anything special, it's just the standard inspirational speech taken from Diamond/Pearl and onwards. Moving on!
After Oak gives us the rest of his speech, he asks us...Not what we are, but who we are! Yeah, Maribel and Renko are the protags of the Touhoumon games, so why shouldn't it be the case here?
Maribel is my favorite of the two, so we'll be playing as her (sorry, Sana).
And then Maribel gets hit with a shrink ray (which is sadly not shown in this intro).
There is a prologue chapter available in this game, but it's quite long, so I'll be skimming through most of the text.
"...invasive species, and researchers are working around the clock to identify these humanoid creatures with characteristics unlike anything we have come across before."
Yeah, imagine how many pics it would have taken to display all that. Anyways, the radio is speaking of the Puppets, whom have invaded the various countries in the Pokemon world.
And suddenly, credits drop.
I have not read this fic, nor do I intend to, because spoilers!
I find this title card to be more forboding than it should be for some reason.
Oak explains to Red that after an expedition to the Cave of Origin, they discovered the Puppets...Who proceeded to move into Hoenn and other regions, forcing the rest of the Pokemon to flee into hiding. It's been a year since the incursion, and the citizens of Monsekai have adapted to Puppets essentially replacing Pokemon.
A good question to ask! There's a new region in this game called Kikoto, where a (wild) Pokemon Preservation exists. Blue has been working there all this time, according to the Professor.
The Chibi Reimu here wants to join up with Red, and he gladly accepts her. How fitting!
Unfortunately, with a new starter 'mon comes a new problem. Red and CReimu investigate...
And we find our Secret Sealing Club members are being accosted by a CChen! Sadly, we don't get an actual scripted battle, but CReimu and red send the nano nekomata packin'.
"...without anything to protect you?"
But they weren't alone, Professor! One of them could be used as a meatshield! :D Maribel apologizes for her actions, but...
"though -- watching that battle got me all fired up!"
...Renko has other ideas. Oak is thankful they're safe, but suggests they stay indoors for now.
"...until we get things sorted out!"
Then Red's Mom shows up and offers to let the gets board in his room for a bit. Needless to say, Red isn't pleased with this.
(LATER...)
Maribel then explains she and Renko arrived her by accident, looking for the Sealed Realm of Gensokyo. Maribel's a bit sad that they can't leave, but Renko suggests they stay here and look for more clues so they can escape Monsekai...And to do that, Renko suggests they become Pokemon Trainers. Sure, why not? Everyone knows that if there's an Incident to be solved, all you need to do is just throw a tamed fantasy creature at the problem! It's just like Gensokyo, only with Pokeballs instead of bullets.
Red's Mom suggests they rest first before heading out (and subtly suggests they get to know Red better). Mom, plz. You should know your son is married to his job by now! :V
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B148%5D.png)
Red is clearly a telepath. I'm surprised Maribel didn't tell you this already. Daisy wonders about Blue, Renko comments on CReimu's awesomeness before Red steps out for a moment. Oak asks Maribel about Gensokyo, while Renko...
...decides to talk with Red some more. She's clearly fascinated with Red...This'd actually be kind of a cute crack crossover ship! They talk for a bit--or rather, Renko comments on Red for a bit, before an old "friend" reappears.
It's CChen! Renko is afraid it'll attack again, but Red and CReimu somehow manage to befriend it. Red's just that good, he doesn't even need Pokeballs.
As if one needs any more proof that this pairing is adorable. <3 Renko pays for her stuttering with CReimu pulling on her hair, much like how Misty pulls on Brock's ear when he's...Flirty. :V
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B186%5D.png)
And at long last, we are able to play the darn game! Let's look at some options!
While I assume most of MoTK has played Pokemon, I will take to the time to explain game mechanics briefly. First, the pause menu (which doesn't really pause NPC movement).
BAG -- For using and managing items.
MARIBEL -- View your trainer data, play time and money in your wallet.
SAVE -- Save the game to the current save file. You can save at any time in most Pokemon games.
OPTIONS -- Change game preferences. I'll show this off in a second.
CONTROLS -- Rebind your keys (most of them, anyways).
EXIT -- Closes the menu.
This be the options menu. You can adjust the text speed, how the windows look, and even how battles work; Shift allows you to change 'mons after you KO an opponent, Set doesn't allow you to do that. You can even change the fonts, which were lifted right from the GBA/DS games.
Battle Scene just toggles battle animations, but so far they haven't been implemented so I'm just gonna turn them off. One option not seen here is Screen Size, which comes in three flavors: GBA Screen Size, Perfect LP Screenshot Size and ZOMG THIS IS HUGE SIZE
...But enough about that, let's fast forward a bit to when we actually get our starter 'mon (I'll explore the town next update).
In this game, we use the Puppets from Agastya's Touhoumon Wiki (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Main_Page). Our choices are the following:
Reimu (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Reimu)
Marisa (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Marisa)
Sakuya (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Sakuya)
Sanae (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Sanae)
Alice (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Alice)
Reisen (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Reisen)
Who to pick? That's for you to vote on, loyal viewers. I'll give you somewhere between 24 and 36 hours to vote on a Puppet, as well as a nickname for said Puppet. The one with the most votes and the best nickname will be our main lead for the rest of the game. don't pick sanae plz
Until next time, please wait warmly for the next post. Thanks for reading!

And since people are definitely gonna ask, here's a short FAQ!
Q: Where can I get this game?
A: You can download Demo 6 here. (http://www.mediafire.com/download/h2zokdtab1dxpy7/Touhoumon+Faith+%26+Prayer+Version+-+Demo+6.7z) Make sure to download and apply these two patches as well: PATCH 1. (http://www.mediafire.com/download/eln7iitj7euq3ch/Faith+%26+Prayer+Demo+6+-+Quick+Patch+1.rar) PATCH 2. (http://www.mediafire.com/download/ypwqrqy9ry6y3yv/Faith+%26+Prayer+Version+Demo+6+-+Quick+Patch+02.rar) You can also download later versions (when they're released) on Derx's Devblog. (http://chaoticinfinitydev.tumblr.com/)
Q: What's so special about version 1.8?
A: I'm not entirely sure, but it's the version I'm comfortable with. Don't worry, the demo includes stuff like a Type Chart and a Pokedex with most of the 'mon locations.
Q: What program do you use for screencapping?
A: I use Cropper! (https://cropper.codeplex.com/)
Q: The sound isn't working!
A: First, press F1 once you're ingame to bring up the options menu, you might have the sound off (trust me, I muted the sound in another RPG Maker game and didn't realize it carried over to other games). Keep in mind this game uses MIDIs, so if you mute the MIDI audio you might not hear some of the music.
Q: Where can I get the game music?
A: It's all in the game's folders. There's also a Music Player item in the game (which I'll show off next update) that lets you listen to the music as well. If I find a playlist with all the FnP music I'll link it here.
Q: Why did you pick Maribel over Renko?
A: I find Maribel's personality in this game more befitting of a Poke-tagonist, and as a result, she'll have a more interesting plot development. That's not to say I won't say no to Renko, but I find Maribel more appealing overall to me. Sorry, Renko fans! ^^;;
Q: Ok, I get Sanae, but what about Alice and Reisen?
A: They're playable characters in a few of the Touhou games, and are fairly well-known to boot. Reisen's is a bit hilarious in hindsight given her role in LoLK (which I have yet to play).
Q: Which Puppets are available in this game? The Wiki has a lot of them and I'm too lazy to read!
A: Almost every character up to Hopeless Masquerade (and the print works up to that point) has a Puppet representative. i might be wrong on this
Q: When does this game take place?
A: Maribel and Renko begin their Puppet journey a decade after the events of Red and Blue.
Q: I can't find Mima in the Lavender Gym! What gives?!
A: It's a typo. Mima's been removed from that area entirely. I'm not sure if we'll be able to see her this playthrough, but we'll see!
Q: Can we breed Puppets in this game?
A: Yes, but without knowing the base stats of the Puppets or anyone to check their IVs, it's very difficult.

END PART ONE
DISAPPOINT
Merryberries are ok too
indeed.
random.org has given me a 1. I sure hope this isn't too indicative of how this LP goes.
It's not a Nuzlocke, so I think we're ok...That being said, this game is a bit harder than the base Pokemon titles, so expect some difficult battles and long grind sessions.
How far does this demo go? I remember seeing this fangame before but passing on it, maybe a mistake.
The Kanto region is finished, so despite this being still a "Demo" I still consider a full region a full game. Everyone loves Kanto, right? :V
Buns.
I'll assume that vote's going towards Reisen?
She's weak to tackle.
Unless derx significantly changed up the early game encounters, we're going to be seeing a lot of tackle early.
Yeah, Tackle is Beast type, Sanae is Faith, and in 1.8 Beast > Faith so...She's worse off than Charmander was in the original Red and Blue games. :fail:
I can't remember how good stealing UFOs are, but it's something.
Thief is surprisingly good early on, believe it or not. CTewi on Route 3 sometimes hold Lucky Eggs. And I am going to steal one six of them. >=D
Furthermore, one of Route 1's Puppets can learn Thief innately, so that's an option if we don't pick Marisa.
That being said...You actually did a smart thing suggesting Marisa too, because so far we have one vote for each starter except Alice (you meanies). I'll wait a bit longer before I actually choose our starter, since there's a nocturnal Puppet on Route 1 that I wish to catch. In the meantime, I'll start prepping the post!
EDIT: Rampant spoiler tags whoops

Good grief. Wish I knew about that earlier
I was just suggesting Marisa because I picked her as a starter, and as we all know, danmaku Pokemon battles Puppet battles are all about power. ze
See: Twitch Plays Pokemon.
Oh gods, the stories I've heard from that... :ohdear: I was even considering doing one here on MoTK with people typing in how many button presses they want me to do, but that'd get pretty spammy and would be pretty pointless overall. the fact you can get pretty much the same result by downloading a TAS movie to an emulator doesn't help matters either

This is why I posted the wiki earlier, so you'd be informed! :derp: As for starters, when I first started playing this game, I picked Alice. She's actually pretty good, but Marisa's not a bad choice either (and in some ways she's better than Alice).
With that said...
======
Welcome back, viewers! Last time, we entered the world of Monsekai, and now we're going to get our first Puppet!
...After exploring the town of Pallet, of course.
This is the Sealing Club duo's temporary home here in P--oh shoot I forgot the most important thing!
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B220%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B221%5D.png)
There's always a free potion inside your PC storage at the start of a Pokemon game...At least until Gen 4, when Yukari suddenly gave everyone Hammerspace Satchels (TM). Maribel must've been aware of this for some time, given her ability.
Here's what the inventory screen looks like. In Gen 1, you just had one big bag that could only hold like 16 items or something dumb like that. From Gen 2 onwards, we got the more conventient "pockets" that divvied up your items based on purpose (healing items in one poket, Pokeballs in another, etc.) In the Key Items pocket, we have this here music player, which lets us listen to any of the game's music while walking on the overworld.
And there is a LOT of it to choose from; I believe there's over 100 tracks to listen to.
Anyways, let's get back to what we were doing.
"...Pokemon and Items as data via the PC system!"
"...I could have sworn I said that 10 years ago, too."
All that's missing is the ability to summon Items and 'Mons at will from our PC over wireless. We can send caught 'Mons to the PC, but what's stopping us from doing it the other way? Oh right, game balance. Nevermind. :V
I also have a sneaking suspicion that the house we're staying in belongs to this guy. Maybe he's renting it out to Oak or something?
Inside the nearby red house, we find a nice old lady!
"...now is are potions. Would you like one?" [YES/NO]
Of course we would, thank you ma'am. :D You can get three free Potions from her if you talk to her repeatedly.
Everyone knows Red and Blue, but who was phone] is Green?
"~Daisy"
Oh. Apparently in the original Japanese version of Pokemon Adventures manga, Green is Gary and Blue is the girl that would become FR/LG's female trainer. In the US version, their names got swapped for some reason. Not nearly as egregious as Rumble and Frenzy in Transformers, but it can still be a bit confusing for those not intimately familiar with the source material.
And what a journey it'll be! Shame it only covers Kanto so far, but meh. I consider a complete region a complete game when it comes to Pokemon. I'll gladly play the other regions once they become available though.
Here's Red's house, but we can't do much here aside from talk to his mother, whom tells us to head over to Oak's Lab. The Pokemon Center, oddly enough, is locked up. Good thing they added one to begin with!
Overall, Pallet's not very big, even with its changes. There is however a river running from the East side of town, we'll try and explore it once we gain access to Surf.
And with that, we're here at the Lab--er, Research Institute, where Renko's waiting for us. What's with all the boxes, though? I'd think Oak would have brought them inside by now...But in any case, we speak to Renko and enter the building.
"...a Chibi Reimu, a Miko Puppet."
Oak explains that most Puppets start in a chibi state and evolve into different forms, just like Pokemon do. The machines next to him contain our starters: Reimu, Sakuya and Marisa are in the left machine while Sanae, Reisen and Alice are on the right.
"...your starters."
Oh boy oh boy what will we pick the excitement is killing me
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B252%5D.png)
...But we'll hold off picking for now to point out a couple things. For one, Red doesn't say anything, even if you talk to him. Not even a classic "..."! Also, in the picture here, there's a bit of a masking error: Mari's supposed to be walking behind the machines here, but I guess Derx never properly layered the tiles. Whoops. A minor bug, but it still kinda irks me.
Anyways, Marisa's going to be our starter for this playthrough! "I'm sure you two will be a great pair!" says Oak. Considering how similar our names are, I believe it. XD
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B254%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B255%5D.png)
Hecks yes we're naming our Puppet. And yes I'm aware the gender symbol is there, it should be a yin or yang symbol instead. I informed Derx about this and he suspects it's a bug. Anyways, for the sake of my sanity I'll refer to all Puppets as female and name them as such. CMarisa is now named Lux! (http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/lux/)
Annoyingly enough, Renko doesn't tell us what starter she picks. It's Alice.
"...Trainer, and that means your qualified to take on the Gym Challenges."
As with the regular Pokemon games, we must defeat the eight Robot Masters Gym Leaders to get their badges gain access to the Pokemon League. Renko's a bit intimidated by this, but Oak reassures her that anything is achievable using a good strategy (even if it means grinding our faces off).
And that strategy involves getting our feet wet with a battle! Amusingly, Renko and Maribel stare at each other for a second, nervous about the battle, but Oak suggests this is the best way to learn, and I agree.
Oh right how dumb of me Maribel has a nickname too whoops. Mary's understandably nervous about this.
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B275%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B276%5D.png)
BATTLE ROUTINE, SET! EXECUTE!
The battle system is pretty straightforward: FIGHT picks an attack to use, BAG lets us use items, POKEMON (which should be Partners) lets us look at our party's stats and switch out members, and RUN...Can't be used in trainer battles. Not that we want to run, we want to WIN!
...That being said, this first battle is kind of irritating, since Alice is AI-operated and will just randomly attack whomever. So let's even the odds slightly...
Lux's main attacks are Tackle (which does damage), and Growl (which lowers enemy attack). The nice thing about Double Battles is that some attacks hit multiple foes, and Growl is one of them. For once, debuffs are useful in the Pokemon games! :D
...Except this only partially works, CReimu is immune to stat-down changes. Urgh. No matter! I just realized something else...
Reimu is weak to Tackle since she's Faith element too. Whoops!
After a few lucky critical attacks and some potion flinging...
CChen faints, and CReimu follows soon after! WE WON!
And Lux learns a new move from defeating those two Pokemon. I really lucked out here, Alice usually isn't this crit-happy.
After every victorious trainer battle, you get some money. In the earlier Pokemon games, it was difficult to earn money reliably as most of it came from trainers, but nowadays it's quite easy to make serious cash.
"...two of you are more than ready for your adventure."
Oh, wishful thinking at its finest.
"...never complains about it. Battles help to foster growth and trust between you and your Puppets. Trust is a very important aspect to a trainer, so remember that. Consider this battle a lesson in that."
"...Mister Red's generosity to show us the ways of being a trainer, we'd be crawling around in the dark still!"
Red is also probably living up to his name and blushing like crazy. SHIIIIIIP BAIIIIIIT!
Oak then gives us a Pokedex and several Pokeballs. Sweetness! The Pokedex catalogues information on 'Mons you catch, and the Pokeballs are for catching said 'Mons.
"...vast world of Puppets is waiting to be explored."
Mary expresses her regrets over Red not accompanying them, but Oak says Red has complete faith in the two (despite them just meeting, lol) and Renko reciprocates the faith.
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B314%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B315%5D.png)
And with that, Act 0 finally ends.
The real Derx Souls starts here.
...With a race.
And with that, it's already nightfall, so I'll stop here and pick up a bit later while it's still dark. Next time, we progress to Route 1!
Until next time, please wait warmly for the next post. Thanks for reading!

END OF PART TWO
HOGODS WHY DID I CHOOSE TO REPLY TO ALL THESE POSTS AHHHHHHHH
man who developed such a shitty game with such a bad choice of starters and such a bad first battle. clearly our starters should have been flandre/sumireko/jk sanae (because she has drizzle!), and the first fight should have been against a level 20 dark last word youmu. the developer is a terrible person and needs to learn better game design!
Remind me to play some of the actual Touhoumon hacks once I finish FnP. Since Johto's not finished yet, I may turn this into a generic Touhoumon/Pokemon LP thread after I'm done with Kanto.
I settled on 1.8 when I realized how much smoother everything felt, but I never removed it from the title because I kinda... forgot. Now I don't remove it because changing the game's title would change where the save files are stored/read, and it would mean telling people "Yeah you'll have to rename the save folder" to repair their missing saves, and it's effort I don't want to undertake.
Considering how out of the way the saved games are (at least on Win7), I don't blame you.
When Hopeless Masquerade was released, thanks to it being rather... incomplete at the time, we didn't have enough info on Kokoro to add her to the Shoddy meta yet. I was initially hesitant on adding her because I decided that Faith & Prayer's plot took place just after Ten Desires with no other incidents having time to form, but eventually I said "Eh it's just one Puppet.", and caved and added Kokoro. I decided on a hard block after that, which is why none of the Double Dealing Character, Urban Legend in Limbo (rip Sumireko ;_;7), and Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom will be appearing in the game. I'll likely be adding them to the DevKit when they have proper Shoddy listings.
How WOULD Sumireko appear in the game? Would she be a Puppet, NPC, or both?
In either case, it's kind of a shame that the post-TD puppets won't show up in this game. Wakasagihime will never be able to swim with her fellow fishes ;w;7
Also the currently public build, Demo 6, goes up to outside Union Cave in Johto. Exploring the western Route 36 and entering Union Cave is blocked off until Demo 7. I'd say the current build has about a good 30~40 hours of gameplay time, so your average Pokemon game length (This is just from my experience though).
Which is why I'm stopping once Kanto's fully explored and conquered. I'd rather not leave my viewers hanging with unfinished content (no offense). I'll gladly LP Johto once it's finished, however! I hope you can make it interesting, for some reason I don't like the design as much as the other regions.
I decided to stick with the traditional Japanese naming scheme here because it was the one I was most familiar with. Green is the Rival from RBY, Blue is the female character from FrLg. Green is the Viridian City Gym Leader here, Blue doesn't appear until the end of Kanto over at the Kikoto Continent's Pokemon Preservation Complex.
Right. Amew also filled in the blanks quite nicely, I forgot about Red/Green being a thing. :V
brb sobbing into video games while i fix this
I know your pain ;n; Creating content is hard (I'm a writer and RPer)
Additionally, Growl is not a terribly useful debuff, but hey, when life gives you lemons
In Double/Triple battles its slightly better, but by that point you're better off just punching people in the face (or just using Metal Sound/Featherdance/Screech).
WAIFU GUARD ACTIVATE
LEM used SKETCH! i will protect you, Yuyuko-sama
It's written to try and be ambiguous, since you can win or lose. It was hard to convert the dialogue segment from the original fanfic into a setting where Renko and Maribel actually won. It's not the best but, it's not too jarring I'd like to hope.
I never noticed this, so you did something right. ;) I'd have just had the dialogue change slightly depending on when you won or lost, conversation trees are still a thing in RPGMaker right?
VOLTORB FLIP IS A GOOD MINI GAME AND I WILL STAND BY THAT, I'M JUST UPSET THAT THE SLOTS WERE REMOVED OVERALL FROM HGSS ;_; Pokemon Essentials came with Voltorb Flip by default, so I figured I may as well use it - especially since I enjoy it, no reason not to.
I've never tried Voltorb Flip, so I'll add that to my list of things to playtest in this demo.
we need more gba renditions of iosys songs (drunk)
I would be perfectly fine with this. IOSYS is good stuff.
======
Welcome back, viewers! As promised, we're off to Route 1!
...After this new NPC tells us how the Music Player works.
And after this girl advertises her shop.
Right, let's take the first step into a larger world.
Huh, the Route sure has changed over the years...
HOW NOT SUSPICIOUS AT ALL
In one of the Touhoumon hacks I played, this house was where you could listen to that hack's music. A pretty nice touch, really.
Hey buddy you're out late maybe you should
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B328%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B329%5D.png)
oh noes
Yeah, trainers exist on Route 1 now.
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B331%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B332%5D.png)
Thankfully, Lux has no problem with this one. CStar is Water element, Thundershock is Wind (the Puppet equivalent of Electric), so she dies pretty hard. Ross' second fairy is CLilyBlack, whom has such awful defenses it dies even faster.
To be fair, CStar isn't too bad. Level her up at least, friend.
CNazrin (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Nazrin) is the Rattata analogue here, and she's not a bad catch. Pickup and Thief make her useful for obtaining items if you need them. I nickname her Gadget. (http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Gadget_Hackwrench)
Oh right, just like in Gen 6, you can get EXP just from catching 'Mons now. This is good, I like this!
CTokiko (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Tokiko) is...Ok for a bird, I guess, but she's not that great and not on my must-catch list.
it is then lem realized that it's still a bit early for cmystia to come out whoops
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B342%5D.png)
When (actual) night does fall though, CMystia (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Mystia) comes out! This one's a worthwhile capture though, she can be geared for physical or special offenses, though she's not what one would call "durable." Still, she's much better overall compared to Tokiko.
Embarassingly, my first catch attempt failed due to Lux getting Cute Charm'd, and then immobilized repeatedly while Mystia pecked poor Lux's eyes out. XP Thankfully, this catch didn't have that issue. Welcome to the party, Sona! (http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/sona/)
Sona's first order of business is reducing the local rodent population down to something resembling a negative number. Needless to say, this takes a while.
In the meantime, let's discuss more BORING MENU STUFF!
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B399%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B400%5D.png)
i totally moved around since I started taking these screenshots again what're you talking about
Now that we have our 'Mons, two new options show up: the Pokedex shows us some detailed info on the Puppets we've seen or caught, but it's not that helpful aside from knowing where to find them ingame.
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B401%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B402%5D.png)
Party allows us to re-arrange our members, give them items to hold, and look at their stats more closely. On the Status menu, you have five tabs:
- The first one shows you type, species, the trainer who caught it, and how much EXP you need to level up.
- The second tab shows our 'Mon's nature (how their stats grow) and where you met them. The description below that is supposed to clue you in on which Individual Values (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Individual_values) a 'Mon has, but it's hot very helpful.
- The third tab shows our stats and the Partner's ability. Marisa here has Pickup, which may randomly find items after battle.
- The fourth tab is your moves. Each 'Mon can only use four moves at a time.
- The fifth tab shows Ribbons, which are kind of like achievements (beat the Elite Four, max out your Effort Values, etc). They're purely just for bragging rights.
Going back to Pickup for a moment, it can trigger at any time you enter a battle; you don't have to win in order to keep the item. Pickup will also find better items the higher the user's level is.
After a couple more levels...
Sona learns this! Sing will sometimes put an opponent to sleep, making them much easier to catch or defeat. A sleeping target will stay asleep for 1-5 turns, usually.
Now that Sona's sufficiently leveled, we can continue!
...Not down this way, of course. This may lead back to that side area in Pallet Town.

No I didn't shaddap >:C Lux takes care of his CNazrin and CMystia easily, and learns THIEF. This useful move is like Mug in Final Fantasy, it deals damage and takes an opponent's held item if the user isn't holding one themselves. This will come in handy very soon, oh yes!
It's amazing how adding on a side path like this can change the feel and look of an entire map. Route 1 was always kind of a big open field sort of map to me, but now it feels a lot more woodsy and treacherous, not to mention a longer trek overall.
Thankfully, the next town isn't very far off at all!
"...game!"
I love these signs. They often give up some useful tidbits about the game's development, and I will make an effort to highlight each and every one we come across.

"Today will be Special, XXXterday was not."
...This is about as weird as that elderly person from R/S/E/ORAS where they asked you where you were from, and you could only answer Yes or No. Turns out this was a reference to this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q246p7H1Mg8). Also, those pylon-looking things are actually street lights, when night falls again I'll show you what the effect looks like.

Not entirely why the Pokemon Centers are so barren like this. They are almost always chock full of NPCs, making them feel a lot busier and populated. plz fix this Derx

"...for tutoring anymore. But I couldn't have been more wrong! I got even more students coming here for after-school help!"
Now why can't we have more people like you teaching here in the US? :( Perhaps what's even sadder is that the blackboard and notebook do NOT have flavor text...Usually it's stuff about status conditions and the Gym Leaders/Elite Four. Then again, players who know Touhoumon are probably familiar enough with Pokemon itself to not need information like this, so...

Oh, nevermind then. This guy won't let you pass until you visit the academy, because PLOT.

I'm pretty sure this building tileset was the original Pokemon League building in FireRed/LeafGreen, but I'm not 100% certain of that. Let's have a look!
Immediately, we're introduced by this young lady. She implies that Renko is here, and gives us what may be the best item ever in the Pokemon series...
Oh how I missed these kicks ;w; First introduced in Ruby and Sapphire, the Running Shoes let you...Well, run by holding down Z. FireRed/LeafGreen did a dumb thing immediately afterwards by not letting you get the shoes until you beat Brock, so the first few hours of the game were a bit of a slog. They got nerfed a bit in Gen 4 and onwards with the shift to 3D worlds and lower framerates (bikes feel much faster now), but they're still useful.
We also get the map, which gives us a complete view of Kanto and any other regions we visit.
I most certainly will, miss! Hope you don't mind me running through the halls like a maniac! :D
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B448%5D.png)
Why yes, we are! It turns out, this used to be the Trainer House from Gold/Silver and their respective remakes. It wasn't that useful in Gen 2 (unless you needed specific Pokemon for your 'Dex), but in HeartGold/SoulSilver you could earn Battle Points from defeating the trainer once a day.
The receptionist tells us that the library and classrooms are on the ground floor, and the trainers can be fought in the basement. IIRC the trainer feature still hasn't been implmented yet, but we'll confirm that in a sec.

"...trainer. I highly recommend you all study it and remember it."
If I really was Maribel, I'd be all over this. But I'm not, so we're just gonna assume Mary has psychic powers and can gleam information from peoples' minds. or she looked at the system files for this game, either way works
By the way, the folder she's talking about is the actual folder in Faith and Prayer's files, titled "THIS IS USEFUL STUFF." If you're not at all familiar with how Touhoumon works, I highly recommend reading this.

"...a more specialized form."
This notebook tells us about the six types of "evolution stones" in this game; they work on most puppets and can even be used on evolved ones to change them to a different form. Different forms can also have different abilities and movesets!
Defense Shard -- Prioritizes HP/Defenses
Power Shard -- Prioritizes Attack/Special Attack
Swift Shard -- Prioritizes Speed
Tech Shard -- Prioritizes versatility in moveset
Support Shard -- Prioritizes non-damaging moves like Wish and Stealth Rock
Solar Shard -- Evolves certain Puppets like Marisa and Mystia into "Advent" versions of themselves; they're based on the "Advent Cirno" manga (which is basically Touhou x FF7 Advent Children).

"...while ago and started studying to see what this place is like!"
Renko then tells us that certain Pokemon elements, like Normal and Electric, used to exist before the invasion (and technically, they still do). She then suggests we read up on the books here, but alas, they lack flavor text too. :fail: So we talk to Renko again...

"...fly free, while I get to enjoy the view!"
How nice of you :) Shame we won't be getting Fly ourselves for a while yet...

"...Spearow! I don't think I can ever see her parting with it."
It would be a shame if something were to happen to Fearow here...No no no, bad Lem, we're not tormenting a Pokemon with Puppets. That being said, if that thing starts pecking at us, it's getting a faceful of Thundershock.

"...to the west side of the city."
\o/ West side representin'! I dunno why I said that. What is this building anyways?

"...world 24/7!"
Not sure what purpose this facility has now, given that Pokemon/Touhoumon Essentials games have no trading functionality. They do however have Mystery Gift, which I will show off soon. Derx has to have something in mind for this, otherwise why place it here at all? For now...

This is that "abandoned" house the kid in the library told us about. If you'll recall, Blue's working at the Pokemon Preservation, so no one's home.

"...another region on business. As such, I have been informed not to let anybody inside. Please come back later."
And neither is the Gym Leader, no surprise there.

Going west then north along this path takes us here. In Red/Blue/Green/Yellow and their remakes, you could find a Potion by checking the tree here (in FR/LG there was just an item ball sitting there normally). Sadly, while there are no more potions to be found, we do learn a couple things: first, the "Axe." That's one of the "Hidden" items this game has, it lets us cut down trees like this without having to use Cut. There is one Hidden Item for each HM in this game (except Whirlpool), and they are insanely useful to have ;w;
Second, that item ball is yellow instead of red. Is it a glitch? No, it's not! As of X and Y, yellow balls are used to tell us we found a Technical machine instead of some other item. We obviously can't get this one just yet.

Since we have a moment, here's a map of Kanto, for those not familiar with the area. It's a good likeness, though I think it's just a tad wider than it was in Pokemon GF/LG. Maybe it was taken from the HG/SS games instead?
In any case, we can go to Route 22 or Route...2 from Viridian. Route 22 ends in the Pokemon League gate, which we can't go through yet, so we're going north to Route 2.

Before we do that however, it's time for some SHOPPING! Pokemon has told me the most important thing one can do is make sure you have enough supplies for travel! Protip: If you must buy Pokeballs, buy them ten at a time; you get a Premier Ball every time you buy ten or more in one purchase. Premier Balls are functionally the same as Pokeballs, but they (are supposed to) have a flashy animation when you catch or summon a 'Mon. That said, 11 Pokeballs for the price of ten isn't that bad of a deal!
Potions heal 20 HP, Antidotes cure Poison (the bane of every Nuzlocker's existence until Gen 5), Parlyz and Burn Heals negate their respective ailments. I'll discuss them in detail when we run into them, this post is long enough as it is. I buy 12 Antidotes, ten Pokeballs and five Potions for the road ahead.

Now, about the M<ystery Gift...This is how you activate it. Just examine the form (relax, it's not an actual survey), say Yes, then save and reset the game by pressing F12. Then, select your save file, and choose Mystery Gift.

Huh, that last item's new...Anyways, you can claim all your gifts here, so select each one and then load your game.

Go to any Poke Mart and you'll find this postman, who'll give you your gifts! The Puppets are a CKyouko (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Kyouko) with Cute Charm, CKokoro (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Chibi_Kokoro) (whom can only be obtained through Mystery Gift ATM), and a Shiny level 28(!) Yamame. (http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Yamame) I will not be using any of these 'Mons right now.

The other gifts are Key Items, and they're interesting: the Shiny Charm increases the chances of a Shiny 'Mon appearing in the wild. This first appeared in Pokemon Black 2/White 2 as a reward for completing the Pokedex. The Specialist's Pass lets us access the maintenance room, whatever that is. :itisamystery:

"...for my flower garden!"
Oh whoops, there was more to this town. This lady's nice enough to give us the Wailmer Pail, which allows us to water Berry Plants!
Amusingly, this house is home to the grumpy old man from Gen 1 who taught us how to catch Pokemon. He gets angry if you go in and speak to him. XP

Anyways, here's Route 2, or at least the southern half of it. How fitting that we just got an item to help us grow berries. :V This boy here really likes watching the berries grow for some reason, so we be a good gardener and replant each berry bush after harvesting it.
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B569%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B570%5D.png) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337147/LPpix/THMFNP/CropperCapture%5B571%5D.png)
Pecha cures poison, Oran heals 10 HP and Cheri cures paralysis. "But Lem! Why not just farm the berries instead of buying curatives?" It's a huge waste of time, that's why. You're better off planting the berries, doing something else (like levelling up your 'mons) and coming back to check on them. It's much easier to do this when you have access to Fly.

For now, we're gonna stop here, on the precipice of everyone's favorite natural maze: Viridian Forest.
Until next time, please wait warmly for the next post. Thanks for reading!
