I only feel anger having read this.

I'm angry because you played this, I'm angry because someone made it in the first place.

>:( GRRRR.

I'm just baffled on how $2000 produces something like this.

Maybe half of the budget is used for bribing the 'reviewer' and the other half went to bribing Steam Greenlight.

Oh I get it... it's called two steps back because there are two parts... Hahaha

Oh wait. 1) If the device allows two people to share a dream, why is she an anomaly, and 2) also why is the 'screen' attached to her? Wouldn't it make more sense to attach it directly to Eldin? Tickles my gray matter with a back scratcher.

Edit: fridge brilliance, just thought of the answer. If he had the screen attached to him, he'd be the one being chased, d'oh!

well that was fucked up.  Given the nature of the game I'm kind of glad for the art style being the somewhat disturbed thing it is; weird sketchiness and awkward portraits and creepy expressions and all if that makes any sense?

There's the possibility of something actually interesting going on in this story but it's pretty clear the writer didn't actually have the capacity to follow through on the things that were there as possibilities and instead everything just sort of... falls flat with poor explanation and development.

I was part of a VN Project that was worked on by a group of about two dozen or so people.
We tried to recruit a popular artist to do some sprite and background work, and done a bunch of it ourselves, we outlined the different plots of six different characters, and even had to scrap and replace one due to ideological differences in how project management should proceed.
We took one scene from each of the six characters, and packaged them together to create an alpha demo that would increase interest in the product.
We had no support and no money, and also collectively decided not to ask for money for the project because we didn't want to deal with copyright issues or deciding who should get what profits or payments.
All of the music we used had to be either created or royalty free.
And in the end, the project had been given up just before we could release the alpha demo due to people's waning interests in creating for the project.

And that alpha was way more finished than this game was.
two freaking thousand dollars to spend on assets. And couldn't even be bothered to change the UI or proofread the script before releasing it.

The title screen sums up the game nicely. It looks like a Salvador Dali-style painting about drug addicts. Except the surrealist-wannabe artist has a long way to go to do anything even remotely close to Persistence of Memory. And now look at the game. The characters can't think straight and the plot makes no sense. And that's when you DO take into account that it's supposed to be a dream and logic doesn't necessarily have to apply. Even sketchy backgrounds could have been passed off as a part of a dream world the characters believe in. But the game fails even at that. Actually, it fails at doing ANYTHING. So yeah, just an uninteresting attempt at grabbing some cash. Bermuda looks exciting in comparison.

Wow, that was... an experience. That's half an hour of reading I'll never be able to get back.

Pretty standard terrible fanfiction game thing. Sad that these things are more liable to being completed compared to well-thought-out projects. (Good post, Zak!)

Two steps back, yes. But after the first step you fall on a pit of swords.
