Goto https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=485078241 and watch the trailer.. isn't that reimu at 0:19? Should we report this? what do?
-
Considering this (http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/485078241/535152511344219506/), it's just another Greenlight f*ckup, so yes, report.

I couldn't really find a ticket section that is appropriate for this... but I found
https://steamcommunity.com/dmca/create/
however it refuses to let me post a ticket there because I didn't click either:
I am the copyright owner.
I am authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf in this situation.
And fact is neither is true... seems like they don't LET you report as a 3rd party watchdog or whatever.. =/

Hit this button.

lol here I am making an entirely new 'support' account for their support services, can't find my answer there. goto their legal page, no answer there.. and the answer was some stupid flag right there *cries*. thanks though.

Why would you... make a new account just to contact support?

Support accounts are seperate from regular accounts. I didnt know this until trying to use steamsupport

So I reported them and checking back I noticed my comment, which didn't actually have any acusations was removed.
In the discussion thread the owner posts:
Also the Reimu art asset is no longer in Elements of Power. That was a filler piece of art that has since been replaced. It only still exists in the trailer because we still need to recut the trailer
This alone would have been satisfying to me assuming it's true. cool.
However this among other things is said later
That character is removed from the actual game, but even if she wasn't, it's simply a girl in a dress with a bow on her head. I'm sorry if it upsets you, but the fact is that "girl in a dress with a bow on her head" isn't really something you can copyright. It would be like saying "woman in shorts and a tanktop" is a ripoff of Lara Croft.
Even if they did remove her at this point I can't help but think there is something smelly here, bear in mind my post on their comment section which was simply "Isn't that reimu? Is that legal?" (and nothing more) was removed without any notification.
Also when I try to search for the game logged on steam greenlight it doesn't show for me anymore... I don't know if they can do that or if steam itself prevents people who flag games from 'trolling' said games...But there's that too.
I can see it just fine when I'm unlogged on my browser though =/

They're being shifty as fuck, resorting immediately to "lel muh copyright go get a lawyer" and deleting comments, but if the offending content is removed then whatever. You know if your only defense is threatening that you would win in court, you are a grade-A asshat.
Their claim to genericism is pretty silly though, considering although it's free materials that was altered, the author claims it to be a specific character that they don't own anyways. "This is Sonic the Hedgehog" -> "now he's green and called Jim, therefore fuck you Sega" is exactly what's happening here.
Additionally, the terms of use by the author forbids use of the material and modifications in non-free works, so...
-
Will report it regardless whether they remove it or not. The game isn't greenlit so there is no proof they removed it in the actual game or not. Also seeing the general stance of the developers, I am not convinced they will remove it.
-
Hey, they removed all negative comments, how surprising!
So yeah, don't fret over this, just report it and be done with it. It happened before and it will happen again.
-
Not surprising, pretty much all non-free rpgmaker games are either lazy, made by scumbags, or porn. If hes going to complain about being called out for the above he should have tried something more original.
Only exception that comes to mind is One Way Heroics, because it was actually good.
-
Ye just report and carry on. Preferred link to the current guidelines on wiki as start.

One Way Heroic was actually made in Wolf... Wolf... Wolf something?
It's a Japanese RPG Maker-like free-ware but in Japanese.
-
Yeah I knew that but completely forgot... now that I recall cuz you mentioned it, it so happens that the wolf 'engine' is also made by the same dude who made one way heroics.

Good find. I was looking all over for it but couldn't find it. It hought it was an easy to find one but discovered I was mistaken. looks alot like one of the official ones only reversed and without her gohei.
Anyway no there was no permission. But there wouldn't need to be to begin with from what has been revealed so far (and promptly deleted by the game's current 'owner's. The game was originally a free download on the rpg maker forums, and featured lots of jacked IPs in the game, which is perfectly fine for free games. I mean I don't think whoever it was that made that suika running game asked zun for permission, or that other free flash game where you shoot master sparks for points and tenshi hilariously shoots hers backwards.
But someone allegedly got the dev to agree to their 'taking over' of the game to sell on steam. And supposedly had reimu removed from the game 'to satisfy paranoid armchair lawyer fans who imagine that a generic 'school girl' (wtf schoolgirl wears a shrine maiden outfit!?) is a famous character like sonic' or something to that effect..
I mean if they said 'she was removed just in case prior to sales' or something, ok cool. but no, dude was really really indignant and was trying to convey that even if she wasn't removed, they did nothing wrong and people pointing it out or simply asking if it's ok were out of line...not to mention deleting all evidence of these conversations.

Browsing Danbooru actually did some good for once :V
Makes me wonder if any of the other art is stolen too. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in the artstyles

A lot of it looks like just the base RPG Maker resources. I don't know if they're default either or part of a pack or something, but I've seen several of those portraits in other RPG Maker games before too.
