My power is maximum

We're back in Baltimore for another sweltering convention packed full of people, guests, anime, trinkets, more people, games, and questionably clean fountains.

Descending upon the BCC this year is the usual surprisingly-large crowd of touhou fandom, and yes - the return of the touhou panel!  It's still alive, it's still kickin', and it's still mostly Kilgamayan making mean comments about your waifu.

Many guests this year including the incredible seiyuu Romi Park, prolific director Kishi Seiji, Shaman King mangaka Hiroyuki Takei, and many many more (seriously, the guest list is jam-packed this year).  Concerts announced thus far are all-girl rockers Draft King on Friday and ... all-girl ska band Oreskaband on Saturday.  Both should put on a great live show.

I hope to see you there!  I'll be the guy cosplaying as
someone walking around a convention center while intoxicated.

Kind of a ~effort~ year for me but it's OK. Cosplay is Lon'qu and thief Bartz who were respectively done several months ago and too easy to trip me up. The only things on the schedule are the Touhou panel and Bad Anime, Bad! 90% of it will be hangoutcon.

OH HOT DAMN ORE SKA BAND?! I may have to 3rd wave my way to that. Crap crap decisions decisions.

Gonna be there, it's gonna be good, [insert more obvious things here].

Also hoping one of my other friends can make it, which would skyrocket this from "gooooood" to "absolutely fantastic", but I guess I'll have to wait and see on that.

I haven't looked at panels or anything but other than the Touhou one I barely ever go to any ANYWAY so whatever.  Either way, fun times ahoy!

Full disclosure: I would legit do this for an entire panel if I knew all of the other panelists wouldn't drag me out behind the BCC and shoot me.

Maybe someday I'll apply for a "Your Touhou Waifu A Shit" panel at some con.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

My personal theory is that the notes for each panel looked like ABSOLUTELY DO NOT SCHEDULE THIS AT THE SAME TIME AS THAT AAAAAAAAAAAAAA the sheer number of otherwise obvious oversights is baffling. That and the initial upload was clearly not finished if only because they leave a null NOT_YET_IMPLEMENTED row on the damn thing and Otakon kinda scrambled and was like "yeah this is totes done and intentional what are you talking about" the next morning ::)

Con status: FLAWLESS VICTORY!  Managed to do everything I aimed to and see everyone I wanted to at least one time.  Spent much more time with some people I wanted to interact with more and with the group in general...yeah, this was a good con.  Easily the best one yet for me.

Presently in New York along the lower end of I-84. Just passed through a vicious thunderstorm. (Someone tell Mao that we found all of her water!) We're still getting a decent amount of rain, and we will for a while since the storm is invariably traveling east (just as we are), but we're doing okay. All of the D Murein hopped on this weekend has trained him well for uphill rainy mountain driving. :V

Hokay, home as well, holy shit was that some white knuckle rainstorm driving.  And then, after going through it once on the way in New York, I got to drive BACK through it on the way home from the Kilgahaus.  (Side note: I had driven so many car and car-like artifices at that point that it took me a few miles to readjust to my own car ><)

Anyway I'll get to posting vids in the near future.

The Jersey part of the drive was quite delightful compared to many years, though I suspect Reddyne wound up with ~shore traffic~ after dropping us off.

Con was fun!  Friends are awesome!  Booze is awesome!  Wearing silly costumes is awesome!  I think this is the first year since 2011 I wasn't horribly ill for a good chunk of it either :V  I feel like I blinked and it was Saturday evening, which I suspect is a good thing.

I also have unlocked the secrets of doing the art auction (which attending is on the Otakon must-do list every year and I recommend checking it out if you never have) as I made way more money that I could have hoped for given that each of my submissions was a day project.  Like seriously 4 of my 6 pieces went for at least $60 and one went for ninety-five freedom bux  :o

Oh ye gods reality struck hard this morning I typed this all out over the course of a blessedly-less-painful-than-expected work day. Anyway, things that happened and observations:

There are functional alcoholics in the world. A look at my genetic history has determined that I probably would not be one of them.

Saunas are pretty cool except not.

Free food is something you never appreciate until you have to pay for your own all the time.

WHOOPS I totally just dumped a whole lot of responsibilities on other people this time around.  :colonveeplusalpha:

Cosplay is really complicated with a lot of things to consider. That being said, sometimes joke outfits are just as good as the good ones.

Status of the D is incoming. Please watch warmly.

Adding $2 to the highest bid on your desired art piece 5 minutes before the end of the auction is a far more effective strategy than adding $20 at 5 hours before the end of the auction.

For past grievances, forgiving but not forgetting is probably the best and most moral choice in the end. Spiteful vengeance is damaging and only brings forth more issues that will exacerbate an already poor situation. Remaining passive and/or submissive on an issue encourages additional trouble and permits other innocent parties to get burned. Forgiven-not-forgotten allows one to be as magnanimous as possible while discouraging negative behaviors and protecting yourself and others from them.

For those who insist on being legitimately dangerous, I STILL have this urge to slug it out with some vile cretin who is caught red-handed in the middle of committing a felony and tries to pass it off as "no big deal and not your business anyway". Why?! FOR JUSTICE AND ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THE WORLD.

If you've got money to burn, it's better to use it rather than cling onto it forever, but only when you are really certain that you have money to burn.

Some parents are hip to the dork scene and some are not. Those that try are more likely to bond with their child as they are extending themselves beyond their comfort zone into a territory that even most of the kids understand is deservedly outside of the average person's comfort zone.

It looks like the entire Tappan Zee bridge will be reconstructed! Woah!

On another note, traveling from Baltimore to MA's South Shore in 8 hours and 30 minutes with a few necessary pit stops is probably a personal best, and traveling from the NY/CT border to home in 3 hours even definitely is.

Jkjk, in all seriousness, it's quite the impressive arsenal--just be glad it wasn't blisteringly hot this time 'round.

I would say this year's Otakon was a wonderful success, many thanks to everybody who made it possible.
