I'm sure most of the people on here have heard of or played UNO at some point in their lives. I'd like to see fan's ideas for a Touhou version of the game. I'm not actually planning on making an UNO game based on Touhou, although if someone wants to try making one based on this thread, more power to you! I have some ideas of what a game might turn out to be like, where there would be characters on the faces of the cards to correspond with the numbers and colors, but maybe also having special "spellcards" that do new things to the game would be fun to see!

Possible Synopsis for game:
Reimu and Marisa are bored one morning and decide to visit Rinnosuke's shop. Whilst browsing odds and ends, they find a pack of cards with numbers and arrows drawn on them. Reimu and Marisa, not exactly knowing how to play, try to make their own game using spell cards based on their friends.

Game Rules:

The way that I was taught to play UNO is that each player is dealt 7 cards and then you proceed to place cards of x color and x number. There are 4 colors to choose from, Red, Yellow, Blue, and Green. An example of a turn would be a Blue 7 is played by P1. It can only be beat by another blue card, or a card with a 7 on it. P2 places a Red 7, and now the x color is Red and number stays the same.

You have to make sure you cry out UNO when you have one card left, or else you have to draw 4 cards. Wild cards let you choose the new color. You win the hand and scores points for the cards held by the other players when you place your last card. Number cards count their face value, all action cards count twenty, and Wild and Wild Draw Four cards count fifty. You win when you reach 500 points.

Cards:

Normal cards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 excluding colors.
Special cards: Wild card, Reverse,  Skip, Draw 2, Wild Draw 4
There are 8 of all the cards, except zero and the Wild/Wild D4. Zero and Wild/WildD4 only have 4 cards each.


Possible spellcard ideas:
Subtract/Add card: Subtract one or add one from whatever the previous number was. If it's 0, the number becomes 1. Possibly Shinmyoumaru?
Choose card: Choose the next number, but the color stays the same. This one might be Remilia because of her fate ability?
Psychic card: Player sees 1 card in Opponent's hand. I was thinking Satori for this one, but it could also be Sumireko now that ULiL is out.  :V

Character cards:
Obviously Blue 9 is Cirno, that one is easy.
I think Red 6 would be Utsuho right?
Maybe Yellow 2 should be Marisa?
Red 1 for Reimu?
Green 9 for Wriggle?

As for the special cards, Wild would probably be Yukari. Reverse is Seija, Skip is Sakuya maybe?

Also, there are 4 Wild cards, so perhaps it could be Yukari and 3 other characters. Maybe it's her close friends, Chen, Ran, and Yuyoko or maybe other tricksters, such as Mamizou. There are also 4 Wild Draw 4 cards, so those could be unique characters as well.

I'm curious to know if any other card games, such as Old Maid, or Go Fish would also work like this...maybe we could make a whole deck of cards based on 2hus. Go Wakasagihime? :smokedcheese:


(Btw, if this thread actually belongs somewhere else and needs to be moved, I apologize. Considering I wasn't actually planning on making a Touhou UNO game and was just kind of speculating on the idea, it seemed like the Addict area was the proper place.)

Actually Utsuho should probably be green, rather than red since the green and white outfit matches the look of a green card and is also a more prodimenent element of her color scheme than the red eye in the middle. I'd actually make Remilia Scarlet Red 6, since she's the sixth boss in the sixth game, scarlet is a variation on red and red is the color of blood too. Flandre Scarlet would as a result, be Red 7.

Alice Margatroid should be 7 blue or a wild card, since she's The Seven Color Puppeteer. Similarly, Patchouli Knowledge should also be a 7 due to her repute as The Seven Day Wizard, although since there is no purple suit, she should probably be one of its constituent colors: Red would probably be the better option since it illustrates her relationship to the scarlet sisters and keeps blue open for Alice.

Yellow's a bit tricky and aside from the blondes, I do not recall so many many yellow themed characters. I think Marisa as the Yellow 2 is a good choice, assuming Reimu is indeed Red 1, which is also clever. YuugenMagan should be yellow 5. Ran is an obvious choice for a yellow 9.

I think a '4 is death' theme may be appropriate too. However picking colors is tricky because The Netherworld has a lot of blue clothing between Sikieiki, Komachi and Yuyuko, while if we went by hair color, red would also be contested by Komachi, Yuyuko and Rin. Youmu Konpaku is another contender for green.

My Wild Draw 4 nominations are Eirin and Suika. Eirin because her dress looks vaguely like the card already and she can extend the life of the game, proverbially speaking. Suika because she's a wild party animal that likes to gather things, such as perhaps say cards.

However we may also want to consider theming the action cards after spell cards, rather than directly after the characters.themselves, since spelll cards represent special actions undertaken in a spell card dual.

Traditional card games utilizing the standard 54 card french suit deck are a little trickier since the connection to the cards is a little more abstract. However I think I can manage. a small but still considerable number of suggestions based upon the symbology:

The Old Maid should be obvious. (http://safebooru.donmai.us/posts/1230696) Cirno can be the 9 of Diamonds, due to her Diamond Blizzard spell card. Tewi is obviously one of the jokers. Youmu would be the Knave of Clubs, since she's a weapons user which makes Yuyuko either the 4 of Clubs or a member of the higher suits. Marisa would be The Ace of Spades, which are black and vaguely mushroom shaped, while also demonstrating her varying degrees of power as a boss/player character. Similarly Reimu would be the Ace of Diamonds which is red and demonstrates her poverty (one measly diamond). Yukari would be the Ace of Clubs to show her connection to Yuyuko and also because the Ace is at the boundry of ranks.

Remilia Scarlet would be The King of Diamonds because she's the affluent leader of The Scarlet Devil Mansion. Flandre Scarlet as the queen of Diamonds because she's presumably second in command and it references her wings nicely. Patchouli as The 7 of Diamonds also makes a lot of sense in part due to the considerations I gave above and also because she has those mystical jewels. Kaguya would be the 8 of Diamonds since she's in the 8th game, has that bejeweled branch from the island of Hori and wears red/pink clothing making a red suit suitable.

Finally, the only heart related character I can really think of are the Komeiji sisters and especially Satori with the heart shaped buttons and the token on her hairband. However Mouku's presence in the 8th game and her burning passion does make her a good candidate for the 8 of hearts.

That's about all I can think of for now. I wish I could recollect more of the spell card names since knowing those would help reveal more candidates but even upon the rare occasion that I play the games, it'd usually be a deadly mistake for me to try and read them anyway. I'd think of more specific games but there aren't really all that many which have very interesting thematic names for particular cards, aside from Old Maid. Usually only classifications of cards are considered. I'm sure there's lots of potential I'm just not aware of though.

Tangentially, I've occasionally seen photos of actual Touhou playing cards before. However I'm not as sure of the themes the base themselves upon. Regardless they often look pretty nice, especially this one of Flandre Scarlet in particular (http://safebooru.donmai.us/posts/801957)

What if you added a character and effect to each card?

At the start of the game, every player draws one card and puts it in front of them, face up, starting clockwise from the first player. If two players get the same card, the second player draws another card until everyone ends up with a diffrent card.

For example: the 9 of diamonds or blue contains cirno, and its effect is 'perfect freeze', everyone else must skip their turn and draw once. If your face-up card is cirno, you get to use this special effect.

Notes:
1) These special effects should be more powerful than the standard special cards.
2) You can fix character balance by allowing some characters to use another character's card to a smaller effect (e.g. for affiliated character appeal).
3) You can incorporate a lot of characters this way. In a 52-card deck with 3 specials there is room for 40 characters. (Ace up to 10)
4) You can incorporate a character effect into a 'standard' special effect making it stronger. Be careful not to overdo it on the card text though.

Alternatively, the character cards can form a 'second' deck, in this case characters can share cards and abilities better, and you are more free to add more abilities. But, the game requires more materials.

I actually own the Chaos TCG deck for Touhou. Unfortunately, I'm still learning Japanese and have no idea what half the cards say ...but I do know how to play the game!

Absolutely loving the suggestions on here so far :) Really great ideas. I definitely agree with Utsuho being green rather than Red. I wonder if we should include pc-98 characters? I don't know as much about pc-98 as I would like, so it'd be hard for me to think of which cards they would relate too.

I think adding in characters/effect cards would also be a great idea. You could have spellcards and character cards that each correspond to the suit. In other words, a 9 of Diamonds (Cirno) + a 'Spell' of Diamonds (Perfect Freeze) would activate the special effect, but any other suit it wouldn't work. This way you'd be less likely to get a hand where you could keep skipping an opponent, or something else OP :)

Finally some thread I could post this and it wouldn't be totally out of place... maybe.
So, it's been long since I made it, but I've been playing  a certain game called 100% Orange Juice since way before it even came to Steam, aand I figured out that Touhou units could be mixed into the game. For those who don't know, the game is a 4-player board game with cards mixed into it for various effects. Each character also comes with a card especially for them, called 'hyper card'.
I don't know if explaining all the rules here would be just a waste of time or not, but here is what I made, units and their cards + some have flavour text, random enemies and bosses ('appearances' are what stages the boss would appear, if the game would follow Touhou stage format) (contains just about anything from EoSD to DDC... you get a cookie for every character you point that I missed) :
