Title: What do you think about PC-98 remakes?
Post by: Phantasmal on May 13, 2015, 11:57:51 PM
Should they exist? PC-98 is an era I've really gotten into recently, and I'd love to see them remade and released in a set of 5.
So much can be added to them, dialogue, and stuff.
You may have seen my other thread on Konngara, who slightly influences this, but I really want to see a lot of other stuff, too.
Remastered music and stuff.

People are going to go crazy about Bad Apple...

While I would like to see remakes of the PC-98 games happen at some point, I don't think they would fit in with the canon of the modern Windows games. If ZUN were to remake them, then he likely would change around or rewrite the story plot of those games to conform to that of the Windows canon.

In regards to the music, I would assume that ZUN probably would keep the original FM-synth music and add remixed tracks as an option.

Although I don't believe that remakes are going to happen anytime soon, I do expect ZUN to either release the PC-98 games for free or resume selling them again (possibly digitally?) at some point.

Actually, ZUN did release all five of the original PC-98 games together on CD-ROM at some point before EoSD's release.

A set of 5 in completely new graphics, audio and whatnot is probably a lot of work to do. ZUN would need to take his time working on it.

But seeing those games remade would definitely be interesting. I'd be happy to wait warmly for however long it'd take for that. A remake is the best way to bring those characters back without throwing them at random on new games. It would act as a sort of "prologue" or "project zero" in regards to Windows Touhou.

I'd be ecstatic. But sadly I don't think it's happening any time soon T_T. But my fingers are crossed for Jynx! (If you don't know about that, go on youtube and search "RE: Lotus Land Story".)

If there was a Mystic Square remake using EoSD era/style graphics and music, I'd be ecstatic.

How many of those exist? I'm guessing they're rare, if not rarer than, the original games individually...

I don't know exactly how many of those were sold (likely less than the individual games), but I do know that they are selling for over ?500,000 these days.  :o

Sure, even if it's fanmade. PC-98 emulation isn't perfect, and not everyone can be bothered to buy the real deal.
