Title: The Bear and the Bird pass on the torch (Yooka-Laylee Thread)

So it's been a while since the last big 'spiritual successor to an old school game' Kickstarter. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival)

Much like the last big name Kickstarter game for a dead game series (Mighty No 9), it's by the ex-developers of Rare who have been aching to make a new Banjo Kazooie game ever since Rare died a slow and painful death at the hands of Microsoft (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t_Co0gfj18).

However unlike Mighty No 9 (which comes out in September btw) where all Inafune had was concept art and a pitch, these guys already have some solid looking gameplay footage.

and also they hit 700k in like an hour rofl

Mondo-Lynn :V

Pretty hype for this one; Banjo-Kazooie was a childhood favorite. Hopefully it feels the same as the bear and bird.

All of my hype. I'm actually looking forward to this much more than MN9 actually (though to be fair, Banjo-Kazooie was a childhood favorite, while I only got into MegaMan late into the previous decade). I've been itching for a new platformer in this style for quite a few years.

I'm especially eager to hear the soundtrack; David Wise and Grant Kirkhope are two of my inspirations.

I too am looking forward to this game. The two Banjo games were some of my favorites as a child, and I've been waiting for a true platforming sequel for nearly 15 years. Here's hoping it turns out well!

The Banjo-Threeie we never had, I'm happy to see so much hype around it.

Heck, I'd follow them just for Grant music.

It's nearly at 1.5 million dollars. Holy cow. And only after five(?) days.

Still, that 1m pound stretch goal will sap so much from actual development, I fear.

I'm intrigued, even if the characters there don't seem as charming as Banjo and Kazooie were. Interested to see what they'll do with it.

Me too, though I loooooove the character designs already. It's not often you get to see a chameleon as a protagonist in a video game (Chameleon Twist counts, yes, but both games were pretty bleh). Maybe we'll see something like Gex where you can climb on walls too? That'd be an awesome game mechanic and open up the world quite a bit.

Of course now I wonder if the levels will be as intricately designed as they were in say, Banjo-Tooie. That was another one of Rare's calling cards and I hope the developers still have that mojo after all these years.

I've yet to check out the trailer, but is anyone else getting a "Jak and Daxter" vibe from these two?

Well, let's face it - the ukulele isn't exactly the first thought in terms of "what kind of string instrument is this?" for most people. And most of those who do are more used to strumming only, rather than the more pick-heavy version they use here.

(Also totally a Hawaii resident)

Oh I was totally commenting on that pronunciation, yooka laylee. I'm expecting to see like, "stupid haoles" comments everywhere.

herp derp thought you were commenting on the second music piece, not the name of the characters.

Not directly related, but Koji Igarashi of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night fame want to make another 'castlevania' game (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night?ref=nav_search)

Pretty good timing too since Konami has really fucked up lately (even harder than normal :V)

Now the only other things I want out of life are either a Ratchet and Clank successor or a Jazz Jackrabbit successor. ;w;

Oh, I know that project. I meant something spiritual, something that is also still its own thing. Like the Citizens of Earth example I gave : p
