Title: One-Punch Man Anime confirmed
Post by: Raikaria on March 08, 2015, 01:04:28 PM
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-03-07/one-punch-man-manga-gets-tv-anime/.85713

After being duped by a fake before a few months ago [Thinking it was this season]; apparently it's confirmed to be happening now.

We don't know when it's going to be airing yet; but the cast and staff are being announced at an event on the 21st/22nd March; along with a promotional video.

So; yeah; thought I'd post the news here since I know there are other people here who follow OPM.

Well, I'm happy that it'll be made into an anime and all, but I feel that it's a tad too soon at the moment. Especially since it's to animate "Murata's OPM", which hasn't been going all that long really and he has a lot to catch up to the original webcomic.
Another thing that bothers me is how most people will see OPM as "Murata Yuusuke's manga", and even though it mentions ONE as the original author, he just doesn't get enough credit in my opinion. Yeah sure, Murata's the one who popularize it when he redrew the comics, and ONE probably doesn't have anything against it, but it just doesn't sit well to me.
Perhaps if they start it by mentioning ONE first, then maybe that'll make it sound better. But that's just preference, really.

I agree it's quite early for an adaptation for this, but I guess an adaptation for it was inevitable regardless.

Hope it's done justice.

Don't you know? Early adaptations are all the range these days! Everything is adapted long before it would finish before the anime is forced to stop or filler. Unless it's JJBA. And even that might catch up.

I'm expecting we'll go up to the end of the Boros arc. Maybe. Then it'll stop because of content until maybe the following year. Not to mention to test the popularity of the thing.

Yep, this seemed to happen a lot recently. I'm really not a fan of this format of "Hey, buy dem DVDs if you want to see the rest!", but it's Onepunch-man so I'm okay with that.

It better recieves the treatment it deserves though.

From what i've heard, it's only a partial sub, so...Better off waiting for the fully subbed episode when the fall season actually starts.

The first episode is amusing, and is reasonably accurate to the comics, with some animation hijnks here and there. I am pleased.

JAM Project was a perfect choice for the Opening.

Well, you don't see many animes where there's a death flag as simple as meeting MC with wrong words.

Wish they adapted it up until Hero Killer Arc.

But they really went all out in the last episode. The last fight is beautifully animated from start to finish. It even surpassed Unlimited Blade Work's episode 23 despite One Punch Man having slightly lower budget.

I don't know about you guys, but I felt a little empty inside despite the whole thing being awesome in general. Maybe it was Saitama nonchalantly saying "Serious Strike" in his usual calm and bored tone. It was a lot of power, but at the same time, you don't really feel that power other than by seeing it.

I finished the anime but it left me feeling underwhelmed. I'm feeling like Saitama where I'm disappointed when I destroy everything in one punch. I'm waiting for when he faces a worthy adversary. I want to see Saitama bleed. In the 12 eps, the scene I enjoyed most was Saitama training with Genos.

And then you get the inevitable consequence (or antecedence) of the planet being destroyed. The show has never really been about anteing up since the whole premise is that you can't ante up enough and instead the meat is on everything that surrounds the actual fights. If Saitama fought someone evenly matched it would undermine the series and turn it into exactly what it's parodying.

I'm just wondering, but has there been an announcement of a 2nd season for One Punch Man?

From what I've heard, One Punch Man will be continued in the form of OVA.
My info may not be accurate though.

There's no announcement but maybe someday.

I mean, it's Madhouse, so I wouldn't hold my breath, but maybe.

The thread title should probably be updated.  :toot:

IIRC, the author wants a 2nd season, but yeah, it's Madhouse's call, because I don't think any other studio would be able to handle it.

If you want to see Saitama bleed; you are missing the point of One Punch Man.

It's a deconstruction and parody of Super Heroes as a genre. Saitama is; of course; Superman. That hero with no defined limits that is all but invulnerable. Except taken to an extreme, on a character with a very, very different opinion on things.

IIRC, the author wants a 2nd season, but yeah, it's Madhouse's call, because I don't think any other studio would be able to handle it.

I think a 2nd season might be possible; but they might need to wait until Fall 2016/Winter 2017 to start production, unless the rate of the manga/webcomic increases as a response to the popularity of the anime.

But; and I never thought I'd say this; I actually think good filler might be the answer. Work with the mangaka and create eps that focus on other heroes as filler. Especially given the Hero Hunter arc; I can see potential for a filler around Bang in his prime. Metal Bat might be another candidate seeing as he has a decent role in the Hero Hunter arc too.

Of course; they key word is WELL DONE. Good filler tends to come from working with the source. Bad filler is worse than doing nothing. Good filler can actually enrich the story.

There wouldn't even need to be much filler to make a 12 ep season when you throw in the Hero Hunter Arc; which would last a good few eps. Especially since there's also the meeting with Fukubi before that.

That's a pretty good idea.
I wouldn't mind the filler episodes take the direction of nichijou with segmented clips of humor, though that wouldn't tell much about the story and couldn't last too many episodes because it'd stray way too far from the mainline anime.

I'd only say to make a 12 ep season out of what's currently there; ignoreing the current arc of the manga; we'd need 3; maybe 4 filler eps. Might even need 2 if they flesh out the fights like they did with Boros.

And there's already a side story that focuses on the Fukubi/Blizzard group anyway they can use. [Fukubi is the 2nd most popular character in the manga according to polls; only just behind Saitama himself]

On a completely unrelated note, an obligatory Touhou crossover (https://youtu.be/IGvP_zZOxS4).

I was gonna say they shoulda used Yuugi but less people would recognize her.

Even if that's how things would pan out if Yuugi [Or Suika] actually punched you.

Also you could have Yuugi annoyed that she can't find anyone strong to make her even drop her sake and stuff as well as the 'one punch' thing.

Warugaki has made his own parody on the OPM intro.

It is called: "One Punch Mam" (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm28319800)  (Danbooru link (http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/2291760) for those who can't NicoNico, but to grant the author his views, please visit the NicoNico link.)

The thought of Sendai Hakurei being a strangely affectionate helicopter mum and being Reimu's deus ex machina is hilarious. Based Warugaki
