Title: Figure Collections?
Post by: MetalStudios on March 01, 2015, 06:41:43 PM
Hey guys, new to the forums and wanted to make a quick post.
Anyone here collect figurines at all?
I've started a small collection myself and have become borderline addicted within the past couple months XD
If anyone wants to see my collection so far you can view it on my DeviantART here: http://metalmephiles2.deviantart.com/gallery/ (http://metalmephiles2.deviantart.com/gallery/)
Don't worry, everything on my page is SFW

Very nice collection!

I'm not actively a collector, but I do have the Griffon Komachi (V1), and this (http://i.imgur.com/zf0DHVp.jpg") Marisa by Griffon. Sorry it's not a great photo.
I bought the Komachi since she has been my favourite character since I got into Touhou. As for the Marisa, I prefer Reimu of the two mains, but I didn't like any of her sculpts. I had to get this this Marisa regardless, it's really nice and detailed with her Korindou gear. My only gripe with it is the blue eyes.

I have the same Suika figure too  :D The replaceable faces and Sakedish/Gourd is really nice to make some alternative looks. As well as the mini Suika for the joy.

I wish I could have uploaded pics from my old computer before I left my house to study.

Anyways, I think you collectors would want to keep an eye on this. It's Remilia based on Koumajou Densetsu: Akeiro no Koukyoukyoku.

Also I don't have much Touhou figs. I mostly only collected Griffon, Kotobukiya, and Ques Q ones. I'm not really into Nendos or Figmas, or any joint-related figs for that matter. Except if it's RAH, Play Arts, comic figs or Dollfie. Figmas aren't really my cup of tea when being put in a display case. Although I do have a lot of Saber from Fate and BRS. I do love me sum Sabahs and Huke.

Yeah, personally I'm not to big of a fan of Nendroids now either, Figmas are alright though......
I probably won't get anymore Nendroids after these, Griffon is definably more of my cup of tea
Does anyone else keep the boxes? Because my closet is full of them XD

Here (http://i.imgur.com/ieg5U7s.jpg) is my collection. I prefer the non-jointed figures but I wouldn't mind a few Figmas. I like my Kourindou Patchouli and Kanako figures the most.

I keep all my boxes, although my Kanako and Yuyukko don't have boxes.  With all of the other figures I have, I'm running out of space

I've been thinking of getting that Reisen figure myself, my goal is to have the full cast of windows characters at some point!
Really wish that someone made PC-98 figures though...... I'd buy all of them

I personally can't stand how they look in the box, they look so lonely.......

If they do the whole cast of characters from Koumajou Densetsu, then I'll be all over it
She would just stand out so much next to the others XD
But if they decide to do the others.... that's another cast for me to collect.... ugh.......

I hope we see the finished result of this soon, it's been a while, but it sure does impress so far!
As for Garage Kits... I got into that a few years back but still haven't finished a single one. Delicate work and I hate working with an airbrush. So much fiddling and clean-up.

If they ever did a Koumajou Reimu, I would buy it in a flash.

Only if it comes with the whip
I would be all over a Sakuya one, really loved her design in those

This looks really neat. I've seen a really cool garage kit of a Sakuya. Can't remember who made it, though
Unfortunately I can't paint it myself though. I have tremor and I can't keep a brush steady enough for this kind of job.

Wow, these collections are awesome  :)

I have a little collection of magical girl figurines, mostly bought on a visit to Japan two years ago. I'll see if I can take a picture to share with you. Sadly, this was before I discovered Touhou, so I don't have any Touhou in my collection. Any tips on where to look (other than visiting Japan again, which I'd love to do but isn't really within my budget)?

Order online, or you can ask to order here.
https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,566.0.html

Online shops I order are from Solaris, HobbySearch, and Amiami when I pre-order or buy stocked items.
I order pre-used or rare ones from Mandrake for a cheaper price. Ofc you have to be very observant and patient when doing that.

Shipping issues are probably the only problems when ordering online.

Amazon is a great place to start looking, prices aren't half bad either
I believe there's a thread on this site for purchasing stuff from Japan
If anyone knows feel free to link it

All I have is Akagi and a LEGO Movie Abraham Lincoln. I've been contemplating getting some Touhou figures lately though.

I sold majority of my PVC figures, especially touhou ones (Excluding suika). It was an expensive hobby and cleaning them was a pain. Also I guess it must be also the age to slowly step away from such things. Well in my case at least.

Collecting is an expensive hobby. My entire collection including video games, is worth more than my car...well taking their >current price< on the market into account.

I own all of the Figmas. I casually collect action figures, and I think they might be the nicest figures I've ever handled on top of being Touhou. So many more and better accessories than similarly-priced Figmas.

I'm at a con right now and keep almost buying a Griffon Keine statue. I know if I buy this I'm going to cause a statue chain reaction and own 30 of them soon (just like happened to me with action figures a few years ago) and I'll gave to install more shelves, but I still might do it.

Sort of, but only because that's what it's for. It has a loop and a suction cup so you can stick it to a window or whatever. She's flying. :derp:

So I've started collecting Touhou figurines and am working on completing the full casts of my favorite games
I've found most of the figures I want to get for EoSD and PCB but I've run into some trouble with a few characters
I can't find figures for Koakuma, Letty, or Lily White which is really bothering me
There seems to be dozens of figures for most of the other characters but I can't find much (or any in the case of Letty) for those characters
If any has or knows any manufacturer that makes a quality figure of any of those three could you provide a link?
I'd be happy to help anyone find figures of other characters if they need it as well  :derp:

I don't think there are "official" figures of those characters. You're probably going to have to look for garage kits like so (http://myfigurecollection.net/item/28661).

When I say official I mean a figure made by a company that mainly makes figures (goodsmile, griffon, etc)
I'm really trying to avoid garage kits if possible, I really hate painting XD

Hmm. I wonder if I could pull off painting a garage kit. I haven't been painting for that long and not on such a fine level of detail, but it might be fun. How damaging is it to a resin model to strip the paint if things go wrong?

There's a couple different ways to do it, each having their own pros and cons

This link goes over a couple different methods and tells you pretty much everything you'll need to know before you try

Finding any good PC98 is even harder. There are some Yumemis and Shinkis out there, but besides that there isn't really anything at all.

I was considering attempting garage kit myself, but its just too much work. Good thing there is plenty of Yuuka at least.

It's not the poseable thing I hate about figmas. Is that, to me, figmas are kind of "not good to display". I mean, it all probably has to be a blame on their base/stand. It's like a Gundam base/stand. If they were possible to display without them, I would. But some of my past figmas just wouldn't stand in various poses without them. Which is why I gave up on them. That, and their small.

I like scaled figures 'cause not only most of them are big, but when it comes to quality and style of the sculpture, scaled figures are the best.

Do you own any dolls?
As for dolls, no. Although I said I like Dollfies, I don't think I have the luxury to afford one.
I think RAH figures are considered dolls though? I have some.

It generally disappoints  how much some of the characters seem to be totally excluded even from obscure fan creations. I have taken part in a few fangame projects and nobody ever wanted to think outside of the box in terms of cast. I think that the only solution is really to provide the merch yourself. I plan to do some PC98 posters for myself once I get just a little better at art.

Who knows, maybe one day I could get my hands on a 3d printer and do some painting and polishing afterwards. That could also be a decent way of making an original figure. Now that I think about this, its actually a really cool way of making a custom figure. Has anyone ever tried this?
Title: Re: Figure Collections?
Post by: Ragathol on April 16, 2015, 10:52:34 AM
I think the problem is that not a lot of people who are active today have played the older games. I don't feel anything for the characters, because I haven't met them in their real context, the games.
But I will try to rectify this eventually, a friend of mine has a PC-98 and some games, so I'll try to play them some time.
