THE HYPE IS REAL
-
I was not ready for this
not at all
oh my godddd
To notice that might not be immediately obvious: We're fighting demons again, not just shadows
-
Lookin' great. I've been saying basically since Persona 4 came out that I want Persona 5 to be about something other than Japanese kids going to high school. It looks like it's still about that, but it's also about something else too, so... Yeah, I'll take it. Good.

What's the distinction in Personaverse? I didn't play Persona or Persona 2, so I missed some stuff.
-
So from what I can tell...
your characters are basically acting as badass superheroes, from the end of the video it looks like they sorta transform into their persona-equivalent maybe?
And P3 Death Kid whose name escapes me (...ryoji?) is locked away in the Velvet room, which is very interesting, and also kinda makes sense since he sorta heralds the end. But it's curious because it means P3's plot might get some slight expanding on.
Also dat cat

Sandman spotted, hype is real.
Also we're back to the classic sword+gun weapon style, too

In b4 the protagonist's Persona is Joker.
-
I still haven't personally played a Persona title but this is hype as fuck anyways
-
Wish this was on the Vita...meh, will buy both PS3 and PS4 copies just for the heck of collecting. :derp:
Hope there's a collector's ed for this though.
Also, SO MUCH OPEN-ROAMING.

Demon-like creatures are the original enemies in the Shin Megami Franchise.

P4 is an all-time fave of mine in terms of characters, music, gameplay, and overall improvements from P3, but I think they started to pull a Squeenix with it and pumped it for all it was worth. So glad to see this.
While the intro starts off with a lot of color, things immediately swap over to a distinct red-neutral tone scheme. P3 had a lot of purples and blues while P4 had lots of orange. There's also an emphasis on masks with the superhero motif and it's highlighted a bit at the end. Wonder if they'll be the P3 equivalent of guns or if they'll represent personae as a whole.

I can't wait for more of this guy's stuff. From the most awesome boss themes to the hokey Engrish lyrics for downtime. Your fashion, your fashion, taken from puppies. I'll smell to you until we kiss at Huggy Row. P3 had a rap/hip-hop style to a number of tunes. P4 had a punk rock vibe. Any word on if this one will follow a theme? I can't watch the audio to this because werkwerkwerk. Maybe I shouldn't care until lunch but :V :V :V
Do I HAVE to own a game console? :(

It's lounge jazzy as all hell, so good

About the guy in the cage again;
I've seen some people thinking it's the P5MC, but the P5MC does not have a mole AFAIK. However, Ryoji (p3 death kid w/e) does have a mole on that spot, so my suspicion isn't going anywhere
-
In the immortal words of Akihiko-senpei "I've been waiting for this!"
-
I'm getting the sense that the protagonist is some sort of master thief, which leads me to believe that it's the kind of protagonist that gains the power of the persona... and then misuses it.
But apparently he's also a high-school kid so I'm like ???
Anyway it's persona 5 so HYPE AS FUCK
-
I'm just glad it's for the PS3 as well...If it wasn't I'd be sooo annoyed.
Reminds me I need to eventually get/play P4, but ::backlog::.
Still, definitely interested in seeing where things go with this one!
EDIT: @s not for

Er
It's a PS3/PS4 release.
-
Red/White/Black is quite a striking high contrast palette, a lot more than previous palettes.
I can see they're really driving this dark theme with the protag's persona, the deadly sin reference and the whole masquerade thief thing in combination with the colors. I will withhold judgement on these choices until I see how fun it turns out to be, but it does look good though, even if it's built for PS3. Please don't fuck up the technical aspect.

God, I love how the last one transitions from 3d to 2d

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyYYYYYYYYEP I HAVE A REASON TO GET A PS4 NOW
I wanna play this shit in the highest quality possible holy shit i love every single thing about this
-
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyYYYYYYYYEP I HAVE A REASON TO GET A PS4 NOW
I swear I'm going to claw bits of hair off my head for months after its release and then begrudgingly buy a used one, love the game to death and play it through twice, then regret my purchase once the experience is over. It took more than a half dozen absolutely must-have games to be released for the 3DS for me to cave there. This will eat at me to no end until I give in.
-
Never played Persona. Wanted to but never been able to do so due to platforms and availability. Sadly it's Playstation only and not PC so I won't be able to play this one either :/
About time P5 came; after all the different P4's; it was starting to feel like Half Life.
-
shit is this game actually happening in a big city??? amazing. P3 was pretty much a school and its supporting industries around it even if it was technically in the city, and P4 was obviously out in the country, so actually having a huge city to play around with would be super cool. And they were probably planning a heist or something in the bar?? The Phantom Thief aesthetic, those menus, that music? my god I want this game
-
With the masks and stuff, anyone else thinking Philemon might be making a proper return?
-

Right, I got that, but in Persona is there a difference? Are demons one thing and shadows are a different thing? Obviously the fact that Mega Tensei monsters that had been adapted to the Persona franchise for use as personas being enemies again is weird, but I'm not sure I follow the full implications of that.

It's never been quite explained why it transitioned from demons to shadows, but they both fulfill the same role of being mankind's unconscious desires and personalities and such (feel free to call me out on this). Some people who believe that all of the Persona games take place in the same continuity think that when Nyarlahotep was defeated in the end of Persona 2 he was resealed into mankind or something: the shadows greatly resemble his true form.

In b4 the protagonist's Persona is Joker.
Actually if you look on one of the menus it lists "JOKER" when the MC is selected - so Joker may actually be his code name or something.

I guess this is Harry's Persona. No idea what it could be, though that's to be expected.

And I'm pretending the cat is doing The Running Man.

hypehypehypehype
So there's no tower or tv world, but it's set in the outside world now?
-
So this is what happens when you throw Sly Cooper, Persona, and mayyyyybe some bits from Sailor Moon and Super Sentai in a blender and hit puree...Interesting setting we got going here, a complete shift in tone from the more laid-back trailers we've seen so far. Also, that bit at the end...It might be just me, but
could we see some human/demon transitioning ala Digital Devil Saga? Because that would be awesome to see again.
High point for this trailer: We get TWO Velvet Room assistants instead of one! They look adorable. :3c
Low point: The menus look nice yet they have these bright, contrasting colors...My poor eyes are gonna have a hard time with this. (ohdear)
Consider myself on board the hype train. I hope they don't go too crazy with the action elements though, otherwise we could end up with some strange turn-based and action hybrid like FF12...I'd still play it though! :D
-
Light confession, I don't think I would be as hype about this if it weren't for the jamming song in the background. The jumpsuits look cool as heck too. I don't know, I'll twiddle my thumbs and listen to the trailer on repeat until the full soundtrack comes out.

Even after sleeping this makes me excited.
Anyways, for some reason I'm getting major bro feelings off the male supporting character, and I already like him more than Junpei and Yosuke (which, admittedly, aren't high bars to pass). Haven't decided if he's more bro than Atsuro, though.

That's perfectly acceptable. For me it's a perfect storm of elements that make me so excited.

You aren't the only one! I thought that too! When I saw MC's mask, the first thing that popped into mind was "...Philemon? Is that you? When'd you form a crew and become a Phantom Thief?"

Crank up that social link. o3o

*high pitched noises*
Literally the only thing that would make me more hype is if the mc was female (or there was a fmc option like in p3p) but since the mc seems to actually have a personality outside of dry stale oatmeal cookie, it's not too disappointing
-
Hey man Minato and Yu had personalities. Yu has no common sense and Minato's a total jerk, what's not to love.
-
And P3 Death Kid whose name escapes me (...ryoji?) is locked away in the Velvet room/spoiler]
that's P5MC. the hair is completely different(and exactly like P5MC's hair) and the theme of P5 is being held down by the chains of society and freedom. thematically, the jail cell makes a lot of sense b/c the P5MC is committing crimes and it jives with the overall theme. compare to p3/p4 rooms, an elevator moving endlessly upward(thematically matching the endless ascent of tartarus), and a car driving aimlessly through the fog(thematically matching with moving aimlessly looking for truth)

ryoji's mole is in a completely different spot, right under his left eye. the mole shown on the P5MC would be typically covered by his bigass glasses or his mask, which is why we don't really see it

Er... if you look really closely, isn't the mole you guys are talking about actually a drop of sweat?

possibly. it's hard to tell b/c it's pretty small

Currently, I'm trying to discern if the new velvet room attendants are male or female.
