So one of my laptops died, which used Nvidia. I removed the HD and put it in another laptop, which uses Intel. Now while my Touhou games will load, the windows are a garbled mess.
Here is the pertinent info (and do let me know if you need more information):
Graphics: Card: Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller bus-ID: 00:02.0
X.Org: 1.15.1 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) Resolution: 1280x800@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2 GLX Version: 1.4 Mesa 10.1.0 Direct Rendering: Yes
Is there some particular trick to getting Touhou running with such a set-up? I've played the games on this laptop before, I swear. No idea what the deal is here.
Please help, I was making so much progress with Marisa in DDC!

Last time I used Linux and integrated graphics for Touhou (about two years ago), the Touhou games did work. IIRC I was using an Intel Graphics 965 chip, and TH10 and above ran at only 45fps. Things may have changed since then.
Have you tried running Touhou using a live USB stick?
-
Using a Live USB tends to slow everything to a crawl, so no.
I'm going to try a fresh install tomorrow over my root and /home partitions to see if that helps (still some nvidia bits and pieces floating around in my HD after all) and report back.

Aaaaand after a fresh install, same issue: game window is completely black. Oddly, sound works and so do key inputs (pressing Up arrow and then Z closes the window!).
Graphics driver info is above, and if it helps, I'm using an HP nx7300. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'll play around with my Linux machine later today.

Cool, thanks! I look forward to your report.
Funny enough, the PC-98 games run fine. Probably because they aren't exactly the most ... graphics intense games in the series.

It's working on my end. Touhou 14 is running at a lovely 30FPS.
Xubuntu 13.10
Intel GM965
Mesa 9.2.1
Wine 1.6.1
What's your setup? Also what command did you use to get all your graphics info?
