Speedruns! Some cool stuff this year, as usual...and, in keeping with the theme of the last couple years, I am unemployed and have no money to donate. But at least I'll be able to watch!
-
RIGHT NOW, RIGHT HERE (https://gamesdonequick.com/)
SCHEDULE OF GAMES HERE (https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule)
Q: WTF is AGDQ2015?
A: A seven day long speedrunning marathon, and by a massive margin the largest of its type. Last year, AGDQ was able to raise over a million dollars for the Prevent Cancer Foundation (http://preventcancer.org/)
Q: Are the runners good?
A: Some of the world's best!
Q: Should I watch?
A: Absolutely! AGDQ only happens once a year, after all! (Although a smaller Summer event does occur in the middle of the year)
I'd type more but you should all know the drill by now IT'S AMAZING GO WATCH AND DISCUSS HERE.
-
:D Yaaaaaaay
-
Oh jesus these were seconds apart
-
New Super Marisa Land tomorrow night! There's a bunch of other interesting titles like Umihara Kawase, Shovel Knight, and others that should be really fun. Traditional FF speedrun towards the end, plus a 100% versus run of Super Metroid.
Charity Navigator ranks the Prevent Cancer Foundation as pretty solid. I think they picked a charity some time ago that didn't seem to have all their bearings, but they've moved in a positive direction since.
-
oh hi notch :V
-
He beat that stupid bird boss in Tropical Freeze that my sister and I were stuck on in like one minute :o
This is pretty much watching a totally different game than us mere mortals play.
Oh jesus these were seconds apart

I did indeed!
I was hoping to have a prize for Super Marisa Land but I didn't get a chance to finish it in time :(
-
I don't have much else to say that hasn't been said. The Tropical Freeze run was amazing and the game itself has some impressive design. TASBot is as magical as ever, glad to see it in proper action. :3c Looking forward to the rest of the week!
On a more somber note, if you know of anyone who's suffering from cancer, survived it, or had a childhood hero(ine) that was affected by it, please donate so others can survive. For me, my childhood hero was Christine Cavanaugh (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Creator/ChristineCavanaugh), the voice of many cartoon characters I watched back in the 90s (Dexters Lab and Rugrats to name a few). Let us never forget those affected by cancer, or forget how these people changed our lives.
That said, enjoy the speedruns! And remember: if it hasn't happened before, it probably will in this marathon! :D
-
Curse you timezones; I missed Transistor because of you.
Especially annoying since I'm actually considering speedrunning it...

I wish I could stay awake for all this week straight.
Good thing I won't miss today's Gotta Go Fast block.

7.1.2015 02:32:20 Kaizo Mario World
Need to watch this :o

That feel. I gotta dig up the run of MK64 from TASbot later.
Also that Super Monkey Ball run was buttclenching he ran out of lives near the end of Expert and you could just sense everyone in the room holding their breath.
-
i made diamonds during that expert extra segment
-
These sonic runs have been pretty terrible so far.
-
Yeah, I remember them being much more impressive during previous years.
Or maybe it's because we don't get Unleashed, 2006 or Paradaxe this time.

Might be it.
I've never seen Heroes run though and I'm almost able to forget how much I didn't actually like this game during this

I would totally be watching this but I just happened to land work for the next three weeks, so I guess I'll wait for Youtube uploads.
-
Getting PokeRed to play Twitch Plays PokeRed plays AGDQ was brilliant.
There was some Marble Madness-esque game on this morning and the speedrunner had all the physics shenanigans down pat. Even if it was just 5 minutes in the regular middle-of-nowhere games they run during downtime, it made for a fantastic watch.
Also @Reddyne AGDQ and SGDQ have different charity sponsors, AGDQ have been supporting pcf since the beginning
I think I got my wires crossed in general since I've been doing bits of charity research on occasion over the last few years but can't for the life of me nail down the one or two charities that I had found that hadn't been doing a good job of things.
-
F-Zero block has started. This is gonna be gooooood.
-
will anything beat 'but I want to go fast' I wonder
-
Watching people play f-zero is approximately 100x more exciting than watching them play mario kart.
-
will anything beat 'but I want to go fast' I wonder
I doubt it, they're doing Staff Ghost races.
Which to be fair the Staff Ghosts are crazy good but still.
(Looking forward to Death Race most whoops)
EDIT: Battleblock Theater. They have the actual Narrator for the game on skype call and one of the designers and OH MY GOD this is amazing
-
BUCKLE YOUR PANTS
-
The entire Battleblock Theater run was comedy gold. Now I kinda feel bad for not getting the game during the Winter sale. :V
-
Woo! They're doing New Super Marisa Land next!
-
NSML's sound and music running at half speed and confusing everyone :V:VV:VV
-
Marisa broke the precious stream! :ohdear:
-
EDIT: Battleblock Theater. They have the actual Narrator for the game on skype call and one of the designers and OH MY GOD this is amazing
Yep, Will Stamper (Narrator) and Dan 'Synj' Paladin (Artist) were in the skype call and the entire run was just amazingly hilarious.
Nifflas' birthday is also today, and he was in the Skype call during Midboss' run of Within a Deep Forest.
-
Oh man, I can't wait for that BBT speedrun re-upload. I missed it!
Also bought the speedrun bundle from Humble. Was a good deal, especially for Shantae!
-
I watched two guys destroy Battletoads this morning during breakfast. My friends and I spent years on and off just trying to get past stage 3 when we were kids and we never did it. They had everything down to a T.
Marisa broke the precious stream! :ohdear:
-
I hadn't caught anything since TASbot, what are some recommendations?
Today's Donky Kong Country 2 which I don't care how many times I see that game run 11 year old triangles is always dumbfounded.
-
I wanna be the boshy might be entertaining.
-
FE run happens tomorrow for me during day-time Kreygasm
-

There's a whole lot of Mario stuff this afternoon that might be ~*~MAINSTREAM~*~ but will probably be rife with speedrun perfectionists, tricks, and shenanigans.
Elder Scrolls 3 is tomorrow morning (Jan. 7th) but EARLY (6 am) and it helps to know the game inside and out to appreciate. For anyone that does, it'll be quite the show.
The evening of the 7th has 3 great niche platformers in Mischief Makers, Umihara Kawase, and Shovel Knight that have all deservedly received plaudits and the best Kirby game is floating in between.
On the 8th in the afternoon there's the Punch-Out!! games which are great (and have some fun incentives) and SotN should be a laugher. The games in the evening are good in general and again lend themselves to being entertaining playthroughs.
The 9th has Metroid before your big block of great LoZ games.
And everything on the second half of the day on the 10th should be worth the watch, although much of the challenge will be understanding just how much players will forgo in order to save some time.
-
I was meaning more like stuff that I missed that was especially rad that I should catch on VODs :V
I will also always watch the 8/16bit Mario games, I see Kaizo on there ohoho.
-

Sonic Heroes was actually really interesting the game's broken to shit
F-Zero Climax and GX were pretty solid (although nothing near the raw hype machine that was GX last year)
Battleblock Theatre is like 3 hours long but as mentioned the entire thing is comedy gold
Also I'd come chill in the IRC to discuss things for once but apparently (and I have 0 idea why this is given I've connected to it precisely once in the past) my host is blacklisted or something so
-

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with that. Might post in the Letters to the Editor thread that just went up about it and see if that gets font's attention?
-
Oh god, the guy playing boshy is donating money for every death, as are some of his friends <_<
-
Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with that. Might post in the Letters to the Editor thread that just went up about it and see if that gets font's attention?
Apparenlty it's all sorted out.
Also 35$ for charity between three people, per death in I Wanna Be The Boshy. What is even going on oh man
-
This commentary is a god damned platinum mine, too
-
"I swear this game is actually hard!" :V
-

Christ, he's even convinced a bunch of twitch followers to donate a dollar for every death
This single run is going to raise like a hundred grand :V
-
LoZ2 in under an hour.
My childhood is dead.
-
LoZ2 in under an hour.

I'm still mad at child me for being able to beat that game
nevermind this shit
-
Forget Zelda II, Dram55 is making MINCEMEAT out of Kaizo, even with the numerous deaths. I have no words. :o
-
The Mario 2 guy was my favorite runner and the Sonic Heroes guy is my second favorite, both good shows.
-
god damn it fix your site I'm trying to give you money
-
Forget Zelda II, Dram55 is making MINCEMEAT out of Kaizo, even with the numerous deaths. I have no words. :o
On my shortlist of thing to dig up once it's on youtube.
"(Vivec) has a spell that'll do like 400 damage. It's crazy."
"Well I have a lockpick that'll do like 2000 damage."
*THWACK*
Morrowind in under 35 minutes. Entire main quest complete.
-

He has a deathless run too, lol
-
He has a deathless run too, lol
Other people look at us playing Bullethell shooter and think "how do you do this".
Same goes for that Kaizo run :V still nice run there. Would love to see the other Kaizo's in future AGDQs

I guess I have to watch it. I only know the 14 Minute alchemie speed run :V (Steal items and alchemie set, craft +stats and speed potion and a "walk in the air" potion. run to the endboss)
I also remember Battletoads having WAY better graphics. :(
-
Mario Lost Levels was ridiculous
Mario 3 in 3:30 was ridiculous
Kaizo without save states was ridiculous and I so need to see freaking DEATHLESS :o
I think the next thing I'm really jazzed to see is Tetris because whoa dang if it got accepted it's got to be wild.
-
I missed Mario block because of sleep, I gotta watch that later.
Sonic 2D block is really good, and the commentators are entertaining as hell.
I think the next thing I'm really jazzed to see is Tetris because whoa dang if it got accepted it's got to be wild.
Ohohohoho, you have NO idea.
-
I think the next thing I'm really jazzed to see is Tetris because whoa dang if it got accepted it's got to be wild.
I'm going to take it you've never heard of Tetris: The Grandmaster before
because really I think the only reason it took this long to get here is that this is the first year they've had arcade titles being played.
-
I have not but you're right I never noticed the arcade thing.
TETRIS HYPE
-
I have not but you're right I never noticed the arcade thing.
TETRIS HYPE
you are in for such a treat
-
It is depressing to see a lack of Metal Wolf Chaos.
Also, in other news; a runner PROPOSED TO HIS GF IN FRONT OF 110,00+ PEOPLE OF TWITCH CHAT after his run.
-

Yes and yes. Also, what I saw of Mischief Makers was pretty interesting. #shakeshake
Also, PLAAAAAAAAAASMAAAAAAAAAA!
-
oh god this tetris
my hands are sweating
-
"So, prior to playing Tetris, you were just normal people..."
-
tetris is
the most intense run of the marathon
I LOVE IT
-
Aaaaaaaand RIP shovel knight
-
We're all gonna die now.

I came home just in time for the secret GM rank.

EST: MADNESS
EST: HOW
-
Return of NSMarisaL's half music/sound issue for Shovel Knight... except this time they fixed it in five seconds.
-
A big Rigs speedrun. Oh god.
Edit:
They go through the final track backwards, then load up the other 4 tracks in right order; in which you instantly are WINNER, and then on the final track it crashes and that's time. Not even 3 mins 30.
-
Do you feel the power? ᕙ(? Д?)/

The last 30 minutes could be indeed summed up with this: ∠(? Д?)/
-
I missed something amazing apparently, but now The Town With No Name is on and it's also amazing.
-
[09:18] <Edible> This game is uh
[09:18] <Edible> it exists
-
These things happen, I suppose.
-
Sneak King.
WHY
-
I love how it's cheaper to buy this game than an actual meal at Burger King.
-
Awful Games Done Quick were as good as the games were crap.
-
Damn that Ninja Gaiden race was close!
-
Awesome three-game relay. I'd love to see more races like that.
-
Awesome three-game relay. I'd love to see more races like that.
A Mega Man NES race I'd love to see. Perhaps make it more interesting by playing it in reverse order?
-
That Yoshi's Island race was beautiful. Crispy kept catching up then screwing up, but overall it was quite close.
-
Ray Charles%.
That was a thing.
-
Accordeon%, no need for anything else.

You were saying? ;P Those physics tricks were amazing.
-
man how many ways are there to break pokemon
-
man how many ways are there to break pokemon
More than the number of existing Pok?mon.
Pok?mon Red and Blue's error handling is so good that it treats anything as standard data until something crashes, so hackers have much fun.
-
Ahaha I see some of Triangles' stuff in the Minish Cap run.
Also hi E-Mouse your comment was read in the stream.
-
MotK represent!

At the rate we keep discovering new glitches in older games...What's the possibility we'll just be able to skip to the end of every game ever? :V

-
I welcome our new TASbot overlord.
-
Are blind runs a usual thing? Dang
-
someone did blind punch out once
-
This is both incredibly tense yet incredibly rewarding to follow. This guy has dedicated an incredible amount of time and effort to something really ridiculous that could theoretically pay for the salary and benefits for an educated and experienced lab tech to work on a project for two full years. :V
-
Final count: $1.12 million at Finale, but a buggy donation tracker means that they maybe raised as much as $1.5 million. :o
This event never ceases to surprise me; I just wish school and work didn't cause me to miss so much of it.
-
TASBot could play.
Now he can see, he can talk, and he can control the Internet.
We're screwed.
-
Is that fucking Pokemon Stadium's minigames on Bonus Stream
omg
EDIT: Anyway, if you missed anything, VODs for everyone! (http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/2ra5rw/agdq_vods_thread_2015/)

$1.5 million is now official. (https://twitter.com/gamesdonequick/status/554610299140317184)
