Title: Un-eraseable bullet patterns!
Post by: ILikeBulletZ on October 21, 2014, 01:41:26 AM
Why there exists some danmaku that just. Will NOT. Be erased, no matter if you bomb, or even DIE, the bullets just wont disappear!

I am specifically talking about 2 patterns out of my head:

Eirin?s "Apollo 13" bullets CANT be erased by bombing or even dying! (You can erase them if you crash into them while yo are invincible yourself though)

Likewise Orin?s "Needle Mountain of a Former Hell"  White rings thingies (?) also CANT be erased in any way!

Is there more bullet patterns/danmaku like that?

Also,  I have always wondered, why are the un-eraseable in the first place? It seems like an arbitrary decision... maybe I am missing something here? O_o

They generally can't be erased because they're a key portion of the spell that would make it significantly easier without them. Like imagine if you could erase the two nukes on Heaven and Hell. Apollo 13's case is more because each wave is a long time away from the next and one bomb would get rid of two waves. Same with Ghost Wheels.

Off the top of my head I can think of
-Utusho's suns in her 3rd and 4th spells
-Koishi's Embers of Love, survival and last spells
-Nazrin's Pendulums
-Unzan's giant Fists
-Murasa's anchors
-Nazrin/Shou's laser beams
-Nue's survival
-Seija's reverse arrows
-Sukuna's penultimate spell

For most of these patterns, I see the bullets more like obstacles, so it makes sense to not have them disappear. The only spells they seem to be there just for the sake of it are Embers of Love and Seija's arrows card.
In Embers of love, I think it's just for the concept of the card, whereas in Seija's case, it may be to make the card's difficulty on par with the reversed controls (because it works on the same principle as her midboss card), though the spell gives you the bonus item regardless of dying or bombing to compensate.

Yes, at first I though that the bullets could not be erased because it would simply heavily nerf the spell for the rest of its duration...

But then, I can think about some other spell examples where bombing at the right moment does exactly that, it makes the spell significaly easier as you said!

The best example I can think of right now is Ran's "Unilateral Contact". Breaking the border/bombing at the right time means you get to shotgun Ran's face for like 5 seconds while she just kinds if stands there doing nothing! LOL.

And yet, bullets are not invincible in that spell...

I am probably nitpicking right now. Sorry about that I am just curious as to why only certain spells/bullets cant be erased xD.

Yeah, there are obviously going to be exceptions, especially in the earlier games. In the later games, like in all of GMK's examples, it's very clearly done on purpose to the point where he probably tests each pattern specifically for bomb resistance (as the developer should be doing).

I'm almost thinking Unilateral Contact is done on purpose though, since you almost always will get a border for it, and it guides you towards the middle before shooting the next wave. It's pretty unlikely that you wouldn't just naturally use the border to cancel the bullets there, so while it's possible ZUN just overlooked it, to me it seems too conveniently set up to be an accident.
